I also liked the childcare options. 1. when we signed up at the Ballinger Village location with Brody, he made a big show of telling us (my husband and I) how they're a small business and they're not out to get money, he said most of them are just personal trainers or nutritionists, NOT BUSINESSMEN (i remember this line because he repeated it several times). So he encouraged me to sign up for the champions class. I asked specifically if I could cancel if it didn't fit my needs/baby schedule. He said "of course. But I'd recommend you try it for at least 60 days so you can really see if it works for you. And if you still need to cancel, just reach out. We're really chill here." This was near verbatim. 2. After more than a couple months, I found the champions class great for others but not for me/my toddler's schedule so I emailed to cancel which was the ONLY option I was given. And the email response was short, rude, and included a "$299 + tax downgrade fee" for the cancellation. Mind you, I wasn't trying to cancel our membership. Just MY champions access. I told them what Brody had told us just months prior and they absolutely didn't budge. That's fine. It's policy - I get it. But this is totally the kind of stuff big businesses pull and they should be up front. 3. We ended up completely cancelling our memberships (both of us) because we thought this way of business was shady and when you think about the cost and what they offer v. what big gyms offer (LA/24) then you'll realize it's absolutely not worth it. all that talk in the beginning is EXACTLY what it sounds like. a sales pitch. don't be sucked in. **I will say the teachers at the childcare are above and beyond. The coaches are incredibly knowledgeable, patient, and passionate about helping every student grow--no matter their skill level. This gym has become a huge part of my life. Both of my kids now train here too, and watching them gain confidence, discipline, and new skills has been amazing. While the gym is small, it's clean and has all the equipment needed for training (kick shields, tomb stones, training knives and guns). The gym also has a kickboxing program led by a group of amazing instructors so you can get a good sweat session. Most importantly, the KMW training is consistent with what I've seen in other KMW gyms, with knowledgeable instructors, clear training plans (with standard belt testing), and a safe community of students, instructors and owners. The Bellevue training center is open for in-person classes and I attended a free trial class there last night. You can schedule the trial class via text message once you have requested the class online. That was convenient. Coach Christian also took the time to call me and talk me through what to expect, what to wear, what to bring, etc. The training center was sparkling clean and everyone was very welcoming. It was a great workout and in every class you learn or repeat two or three highly applicable self-defense techniques first by yourself and then with a partner. Coach Jesse who leads the Wednesday Level 1 class was very responsive, provided guidance and helped correct wrong techniques. I will be back next week and I hope you come give it a try as well! If you like variety and to stay on your toes, this could be a great fit for you. And again, most instructors were truly great. The bathroom amenities, nice weight racks, and lighting are all reminiscent of a luxury gym.
