After reading all the positive reviews, I was confident I was making a good decision moving here. Sadly, All that changed within the two week. Yes, it's centrally located but that does come with congestion & all day traffic noise from the Blvd. My unit backs to the alley so there's also dump trucks, barking dogs, bums picking thru trash, cars driving thru, random people talking in the alley & shopping carts rattling over the potholes. Tonights treat...2 straight hours of live mariachi from a party at the house across the alley. In addition to all this, the complex is currently under renovation, so from 7:30am to about 3pm Mon-Fri there is drilling, hammering & scraping. If you aren't home during the day, great! If you work from home, it's a challenge & VERY distracting. I know it's temporary, but I wish I had been told beforehand. I've been here 2-3 weeks & cops have been called twice. Once for a late night domestic disturbance & again for a neighbor that was found dead. Watching a body being loading into a van isn't a welcoming site for any new tenant:( I'm sure it was all a random coincidence/fluke this all happen RIGHT when I moved in , but still sucked & was very off putting. That being said, there is an after hour patrol to call for any issue that arise (safety or noise) Apt is advertised with off street parking, but you'll be added to a lengthy wait list. Don't expect to get off that list anytime soon. I asked a neighbor & they'd been on the list for several MONTHS. You will be parking on the busy Blvd & if you get home late at night, you will be doing some walking back to the complex. Rose, the property manager seems VERY nice & responsive to emails. I've never met her in person due to their Covid restrictions/limited office hours. I also was not able to physically walk thru the unit until AFTER I signed the lease. Something I probably won't do again. The maintenance guys are also quick to respond. I had an issue with the contractors blasting music during the day, even after I asked them to turn it down. Put in a maintenance request & the issue was taken care of quickly. Overall, I would not recommend living here if you desire peace & quiet & the convenience of immediate off street parking. The units living room/kitchen has a bit of an off lay out. It's cozy & not much counter space.. You'll need to be creative with storage. However, if central location is your ONLY priority this might be the right place for you. There's a grocery store, laundry mat & a pretty good taco shop right next door. Restaurants, shops & stores are a short drive away. You are close to the 52, 5, 805 & 163 freeways, which is a BIG plus. read more

I lived in a studio at Pacific Palms from ~October 2013 to October 2019 and enjoyed calling it home. For a studio it was a good size with a lot of storage space. Bathroom was big compared to the unit. The kitchen was a bit cramped but they've been aggressively modernizing older units like I was in and from what I've seen they look much nicer now. I never had any issues with neighbors except one dude who started screaming at his door at 3 in the morning, but he was gone within a week. Rose the property manager is pretty awesome and easy to work with. She's great at stamping down community issues before they become a problem. If you're an on-the-go kind of person this a great place to live with easy access to the 5, 805, 163, 52, and to Genesee. read more

My boyfriend and I lived at Pacific Palms for 2.5 yrs. We lived in a studio for the first 6 months and then in a 1 bedroom for the rest of the time. Both were recently renovated units. Overall, we enjoyed living here. All of the things the management company can control we would give 5 stars, but there are some things about the immediate area we didn't love for a place to live long term. PROS: 1. Rose, the apartment manager, is awesome! Super friendly, helpful, responsive, and genuinely seems invested in improving the resident experience. 2. Lauro, the maintenance worker, is friendly and quick to repair/address concerns. 3. Location- right near the 805 freeway entrance, which connects you to all parts of San Diego easily. We were within 15min of everywhere we wanted to be- PB, downtown, North/South Park, Hillcrest, La Jolla. Near Convoy St. (lots of good food) and shopping centers with Target, Petco, Home Depot, etc. No in unit laundry but there was a shared laundry that was in the complex (and a Laundromat nearby if needed). 4. Parking- you have to be on a parking spot waitlist initially. However, there was always ample street and suburb parking. Once we got off the waitlist, (took about a 1.5 yrs) it was nice to have a spot. 5. Good price for location and what you get. One of the cheaper options we found. Units were a decent size. Two people and a cat in a studio felt a bit cramped, but the one bedroom was better. 6. Cats allowed and no pet rent!! Huge plus for us, only initial pet deposit of $200. 7. AC Unit inside the apartments. Huge plus in the summer, especially since a lot of apartments in San Diego don't have AC. CONS: A lot of these are things Pacific Palms can't control, but are good to keep in mind when you're considering living here. 1. There's a bar near the 5139 side. Loud music and spillover of loud drunk people after closing on Fridays and Saturdays especially. 2. Street is major and busy, so it's loud. We lived in units on the alley side (would definitely recommend) but we could still hear the cars. 3. They're currently working on improving a lot of things about Pacific Palms (paint, walls, lighting, etc.) so there was a ton of construction that meant relocating cars, loud noises, interior work required locking pets up. Of course, this was specific to the time we lived there. This likely will not be the case shortly. 4. Not a lot of amenities, just keep in mind if they're must haves for you. (No in unit washer/dryer, dishwasher, outside porch, pool isn't heated) All in all, we felt like 2.5 years was about the perfect amount of time to be there. We were happy with our experience overall, but the bar and lack of certain amenities were part of the reason we decided to leave. Definitely would recommend for short term living, but maybe not long term. read more

I'm updating my review from 12/04/2013. I've now moved out of the Pacific Palms Apartments after having lived there for a little over 5.5 years. I loved living there in 2013, and I still loved living there in 2019 (I moved out 02/01/2019). I did have a few issues w/ neighbors about noise (sometimes I was the noise maker!) but they were nothing that couldn't be talked about and resolved. I'm also going to miss my neighbors, and it was cool that I got a chance to say goodbye to most of them. I wish them all continued happiness and success. The best part about the apartments is the manager, Rose. She was as positive and helpful on my last days at Pacific Palms as she was on my very first days there. She's amazing, and she helped make moving in, living there and moving out as great and as stress-free as possible. She's informative and efficient, and everyone living at the apartments is super lucky to have her. She gets 6 Stars, in my opinion. I'm going to miss being a part of that community! -------------------------- Here is my old review - This apartment complex is great. It's affordable, it's really clean, the neighbors are quiet, and Rose, the manager, is easy to get a hold of (through email or phone or an office visit). Why I'm writing this review - I sometimes come home and on my door is a memo from Rose, usually about a repair that is going to happen, which is great to hear, but this time it was about an awesome holiday raffle that each unit is automatically enrolled in. The prizes are way cool; I was really surprised by this because I've lived in nice places before but never have had an apartment-held holiday gift raffle. It's an okay place - my first rental in San Diego and I needed a cheap apartment and this really cut it. The area - the apartments are right on the Clairemont Mesa Blvd, and there's some places to go walking distance- plaza right next door with a convenience store, grocery store, bar and more. But options are still limited in walking distance. With a bike you can get to Walmart and 24 hour fitness close by, and some restaurants. Safety - Apartments are gated so it feels pretty safe. No issues with neighbors, everyone minds their business. Quiet but hopefully the slightest noise doesn't wake you up, since you'll hear cars going by on the boulevard. Appliances - some things here have broken on me. The kitchen absolutely sucks, there's very little shelf space at all so you're gonna have to get a table to put your microwave and dishes. Overall adequate but nothing to praise. Parking - Here's one of my biggest pet peeves - the complex "has" parking in the back, but it's always full so they say you'll get an assigned parking once there's an open spot. It was advertised as if parking will be assigned in a month. I've been here almost 6 months and no word about any open parking. Parking on the street is doable, but when I come home later at night there's no parking next to the complex so you have to park in an adjacent street somewhere and walk back. It's a pain. Service - the girl assigned to the property has minimal hours. She's only open 10 AM - 3 PM Monday to Thursday, so if you have a day job then forget about ever being able to get in touch with her. Otherwise - the good things about the apartmnet was that it was definitely worked on before I moved in as I saw them working on it and cleaning it up. The pool is cleaned twice a week, and overall you will get by here. It's a nice cheap solution of an apartment, just move here to settle and then find something better. read more

I am giving this apartment complex five stars. I am doing so simply due to Rose the property manager. Rose is so understanding and has a truly wonderful demeanor. She is always so prompt with emails, phone calls, issues, etc. she always goes above and beyond. Whenever I need assistance I fee quite comfortable going to Rose. I believe this is so important in a living environment. I love how Rose does everything so professionally. I've personally had landlords who haven't kept things organized and in writing. Thank you, Rose for making my living experience here stress free! Apartment review: My apartment has upgrades, granite countertops, faux wood floors, new paint, etc, and is so cute and homey. I live 4 miles from work which is a huge plus. There are so many yummy food places around. Very conveniently located. I am a bit bummed it's right next to a bar due to my natural homebody self... at times it can be a bit loud. I never hear my neighbors, the walls are nice and thick. The pool is kept clean during summer hours...I am typically in the pool every weekend during the summer. There is a laundry room on site which is slightly outdated, I stopped using it. This doesn't bother me much due to the brand new remodeled laundry mat next door. I believe the price is just right for everything I have access to. read more

I lived in these apartments for a year and was very happy with the overall experience. My leasing manager Rose was very helpful and made life a lot easier by being so on top of things. When it came to things like my ac unit being out, I had someone at my door in minutes to fix it. The apartments are very spacious and nice and I would have stayed there another 5 years if I wasn't moving across the country! Pros It's cheaper than other apartments in the area. Close to the 5, 52 and 805 freeways. You get Target gift card at Christmas. Any issues with the building, you can contact the manager. She usually gets back to you the next day. Cons Studio is old. The flooring is uneven and it creeks when you walk across the room. The walls are paper thin. You can literally hear your neighbors snoring. No insulation on door or around AC unit. There are two cracks in ceiling running the length of the studio. There's a vent over the stove, but it does not exhaust. This makes cooking a problem. The neighbors have screaming matches late at night or early morning. Police had to be called a couple of times. Cars and motorcycles race through the streets at all hours. You can usually hear sirens daily. You can hear and feel doors being slammed at all hours. Having your mail opened or tucked in your door. I caught a guy going through my laundry. I had other instances where the dryer door would be wide open when I went to pick up clothes out of the dryer so I had to pay for another load. The machines are pretty old so they're usually busted. Plumbing is problematic. There's usually a memo with a plumbing emergency in your door every couple of months. Two days without running water is not acceptable. I had a sink overflow because of the poor plumbing in this old building. The bathroom flooring had to be replaced. There are random homeless people that go through trash at all hours. People from the building next door like to park over here. They also like to leave carts in the alley. They will also race through the alley since they do not have assigned parking. Solicitors are usually here despite signs. Two guys came by in the evening claiming to be from ATT, DirectTV and Dish. I think they were casing the building. Conclusion If you need a place for short term, it should be fine. read more

12/29/2017 Rose left one year ago. I coincidentally was planning to move out a few days afterwards. I couldn't comment on the current management, but just so you know this place has lost Rose :( =================== I am a new tenant starting from end of September 2015, and have yet to experience anything unpleasant about this place. Neighbors are nice. Rose, the manager, is super-duper nice. When I was searching for housing, I talked to a few other housing managers over the phone and did not have any good impression at all: talking like I am owing them money or something... Rose is the nicest manager I have ever come across: always smiling, cheerful, caring and... pretty much all the good characters you can imagine. It is well worth it for its rental rates(currently a little less than $1,200); to be honest, what other things should you expect? I think $1,600-$1,700 per month is the standard rate for 1 bedroom / studio apartment in San Diego at this time (but without a nice manager), so if you are looking for a relatively inexpensive place to live, definitely should consider here. One last special mention is that I just received a Christmas card from Rose, and it is attached a TARGET GIFT CARD! I couldn't believe an apartment complex would do this! I lived in these apartments for about 2 1/2 years and I honestly loved it here. The other tenants are quiet and the apartment, while small, was really cute (I lived in the renovated studio). It is in the best location ever. My husband and I would walk to Smart and final anytime we needed groceries and it was so convenient. It's also so central to everything, there's a Costco nearby, movie theaters, Vons, a ton of food restaurants, the dmv, etc. I would have stayed longer but I had family issues that forced me to move. If you're considering moving into a studio or 1 bedroom apartment you should definitely consider Pacific Palms. The studios and 1 bedrooms are spacious, the units are maintained very clean like brand new. And the apartments are also a walking distance to stores and restaurants. We had just moved out to San Diego, and as you can imagine, things are a bit different than in the Midwest. Rose, the community manager, walked us through all of the procedures with incredible patience and understanding! She is always on top of communications and does a great job making you feel welcome and comfortable. There is definitely a community here, and as you become familiar with the area, you really get to know people. San Clemente Canyon has some great running trails if you just follow Limerick until it dead-ends into the canyon, and if you head the opposite direction, you can find Tecolote Canyon right across Genesee! And with Smart and Final so close, you always have easy access to groceries. The community is not loud, the washers and dryers are generally open, the pool is always clean, and parking isn't too bad. Very affordable with the added bonus of friendly and enthusiastic staff, this place is worth your time to check out! read more

Been living here about 6 mos. now and no problems whatsoever. Rose, the property manager is super nice and really quick to respond to any of my questions or concerns. The price here is tough to beat compared to surrounding areas. Theres a grocery store next door and a walmart about 4 min down the road. My whole experience here so far has been great!
