I explained I was going to be a caregiver for a elderly relative. To my surprise I was told this probably wasn't the best community for us and steered me to another area and community. This place has elevators and no reason it wouldn't work for us. I decided to apply anyway. After applying no response or follow up. I'm sure it is illegal to discriminate and steer people to other areas. I'm currently thinking about filing a lawsuit because I was discrimated against. I cannot warn people enough from moving to this complex and I hope whoever reads this seriously considers other options. Residents deserve better. I'm not sure if we just got the short end of the stick for being college students, but the past two years at Valentia had been completely miserable. The staff is deceptively kind, their commitment to service is disappointing. From telling us over the phone that they didn't want to spend money on a more expensive plumber to resolve an urgent leak issue we had, leaving us without water in the bathroom for nearly 5 days, ended up taking a MONTH to properly resolve, leaving a horrible mildew smell for almost a year after, a huge, dirty, hvac system being left in our apartment for weeks when I reminded the office multiple times to have it picked up. We've had the water shut off multiple times without notice among other inconvenient issues that we remained patient with. And if you read the reviews we aren't the only residents to experience issues like this. However the icing on the cake was when our next door neighbors received a $500 rent decrease at their lease renewal for their mold problem but we received a 9.9% increase despite the issues we experienced. There were constant issues with our building, construction, and mold cleanings. For how much it was, I was genuinely concerned about how much mold must have been in our building. On top of that, we inherited our apartment completely dirty, with sticker stains, grime, weird stains on the mirrors, tape residue everywhere on the showers, old food left, old items from previous owner were left, and nothing was renovated. And they genuinely have the audacity to charge this much for rent and for this kind of service while making it up to other residents. The disparity in treatment was extremely frustrating. We could've paid $2,000 for rent and it still would not have been worth it. Look anywhere else. Even villas of renaissance across the street charges the same exact price for renovated apartments and utilities. At the end of this we feel taken advantage of and genuinely disrespected as a resident by the office staff and complex. Good things about Valentia: Jacuzzi, sauna, pool (while not always clean) still nice to use. They hold food truck nights, and the complex location is of course very ideal. I lived at Valentia for 6 years and loved it! Here's why I recommend it: 1. The location is amazing - near UTC, next to a well-maintained park, close (but not too close) to the 805. 2. Walkable area with a coffee shop, CVS, restaurants, and a Pilates studio just 0.5 miles from the complex 3. Beautiful units - I had a top floor corner unit with vaulted ceilings, which is a big reason why I lived there for so long. Lots of natural light, no noise from neighbors, and a great view. 4. The maintenance team is awesome, especially Cesar and Aaron. They're so kind and respond so quickly! A+ 5. Sauna - great amenity to have 6. Parking garage under the buildings - pretty secure and nice to have your car protected from the elements 7. Tons of street parking for guests 8. Easy move-out process. After reading horror stories of people moving from other complexes, I was a little worried about how things would go when I left Valentia.  Thankfully, the move-out inspection was very fair. Danielle was super kind and helpful whenever I reached out with questions, even after I moved out. 9. No issue with pests - this is a very clean complex. Over the whole six years, I saw a few spiders and had a few fruit flies come in during the summer months.   Negatives: 1. It's pricey - rent exploded all over San Diego after COVID, and this complex is no exception. 2. Renovations/construction in the past - over the last few years, there have been renovations at Valentia and the neighboring complex Villas of Renaissance. This could be quite noisy, but I think they're over now. 3. Area can be a little noisy - if your unit faces across from Villas of Renaissance, noise echos so it can get a little loud on trash pick-up day or if people are talking in the street late at night. Lots of students live in the area, but usually late-night noise isn't an issue 4. Master bedrooms (with bathroom attached) get very humid after you run the shower, so a dehumidifier is really helpful to keep the closet mold-free. Trade-off for that amazing, spacious bathroom! 5. Smaller kitchens - big enough to do what you need, but definitely not spacious.   Overall, I would definitely recommend living here. With a large and medium pool, two jacuzzis, a racquetball court, and a 24-hour fitness center, it's like having resort-level amenities right at home. What really sets Valentia apart is the smaller, less crowded community--you won't find the pools packed or the gym busy like in other complexes around here. It's quiet, peaceful, and perfect for families, with a nearby athletic field and a great playground for those leisurely walks. We recently upgraded to a 3-bedroom after two years in a 2-bedroom, and couldn't be happier, especially with the brand-new appliances. We've got a new fridge, microwave, dishwasher, and an incredible new washer and dryer that makes laundry a breeze! The location is great too--there's a charming little shopping center with a river nearby, adding to the beauty of the area. The team at Valentia is amazing. Danielle (Community Manager), Stephanie (Assistant Community Manager), and Bryce (Leasing Office) are super helpful, and Aaron from maintenance takes care of requests almost immediately, usually within 24-48 hours. I lived here just for a year while staying as a student at UCSD and it was wonderful for the price. I split my apartment with 4 other students and a dog, and I remember the staff here being so helpful and patient with us as first time renters! After moving out of the apartments here I recently accidentally ordered a package to this address instead of my new one. Mia helped me sort out my shipping confusion and held my packages for almost a whole week for me until I was ready to pick them up. Termite infestation alert!!!! Apartment was not ready for move in. I have lived at Valentia for nearly 3 months now and when I tell you it is NOT worth the rent cost, trust me on this. I moved into the apartment with a termite infestation and am still dealing with this nightmare. I requested one month free rent in return for the extensive troubles (moving in with a corroded/leaking faucet, termite infestation, unreachable attic door open letting bugs in, damaged mirror, dry rotted/termite infested bedroom door to patio, being told via email the wrong mailbox at move in, and the list goes on and on), and I have only been compensated $500, despite moving into the unlivable conditions, and rent is more than 6x that for a 1br apartment. Termite droppings literally come out of my vent and I need to clean them up daily. At move in, I let them know that the termite infested door and frame to my bedroom needed to be replaced ASAP and it still has yet to get done. The vendor came today, but had not been informed that the entire door frame would need to be replaced due to the extensive termite damage, so they'll have to come back tomorrow. I find that lack of communication interesting. I have had to miss work over this, and people are constantly coming in and out of my apartment to fix things or treat termites. STAY AWAY DO NOT RENT HERE!! I have NO clue where all these fake 5 star reviews are from. This apartment community is overpriced, dirty, mold and insect infested. I was forced to move out of my unit after only 2 months because of a total mold infestation growing throughout my unit which eventually made me sick. As well as all types of insects scattered everywhere inside my apartment. I made management aware of all these issues the very first days that I moved in and they refused to accept responsibility and did absolutely nothing in order to rectify the situation and completely ignored my serious problems of living in an uninhabitable dwelling. Then after move out they had the nerve to try and charge me thousands of dollars for breaking my lease early, which is my legal right to do so per California law when a unit is not livable with clear obvious signs of mold growing EVERYWHERE! They also immediately put a mold&insect infested unit back on the market immediately after my move out! Not to mention the extremely unprofessional and rude staff there especially the manager Danielle and maintenance Cesar, who both laughed in my face and kicked me out of her office when informing them of the serious mold and cleanliness issues in my unit the first day I moved in. After 60+ days they neglected and ignored all maintenance requests and broken promises were never kept to address all these issues. These apartments are 3-4 thousand dollars for old dirty units built in the 1980s with spider webs, insects and mold everywhere indoors and outdoors. Completely unacceptable conditions for any place but especially in this price point. We have been residents at Valentia a year and a half and it has truly been a pleasure living here! Before relocating to San Diego we researched several apartments. In comparison of quality, service, amenities and value, Valentia stands alone. This community has a feeling of residential camaraderie. Not only are the units bright, modern and well maintained; each boasts an enormous patio equipped with a storage room, washer and dryer. This lends to a condo lifestyle and not merely apartment dwelling. The staff are extremely friendly and professional. In fact they actually remember our names and fur babies. My husband and I have been well accommodated. The main theme here is customer service and appreciation. Also noteworthy, is the diverse culture in residents. You will find all ages residing in harmony, respectfully and peacefully together. Yes! This is a quiet community, but by no means stuffy. Management seeks to engage the community by hosting socials and special events, such as arranging regular high end food trucks, offering a variety of culinary delights. After working a 12 hour shift it is nice to come home and conveniently grab a bite to eat! Currently they are involved in a Thanksgiving food drive. Future residents, MUST READ. I really do question how this place has so many 5 star reviews. Living here was definitely no 5 star experience! In short, Valentia looks really nice from the outside- it's well kept, clean, seemingly luxurious and in the heart of La Jolla. But don't be fooled like we were. After living here for 1.5 years, I can say it's far from luxurious. In fact, I might argue that it's the complete opposite. Having a leasing office/agents on the property is convenient. They're there when you have issues (and you WILL have issues living here) but you can definitely sense they don't genuinely care about their tenants.. or at least we did. They act like they care but their actions say otherwise.. or maybe it's because we're a group of college students so they think we're "easy" to handle. I'm a firm believer in that Valentia puts college students in shitty units. If the average family had the same kind/amount of problems we did, I really don't know HOW Valentia would still have residents. We've sent in way too many repair requests so I can't possibly list all the problems but here are a *memorable* few: The first week I moved in (Sept 2017), we had a flood in the master and there was no one in the office to help us. We called numerous times (mind you it was during the day) and even went to the office but no sign of a single leasing agent around. It was only when I ran around the property frantically that I found someone to help us. More recently, leaking from the upstairs unit causing a water bubble in our ceiling. Happened not only once but TWICE in the span of a month (Aug-Sept 2018). They only come in to fulfill your request if they think it's urgent and yes, this was very f*cking urgent because our ceiling was ready to shamble to the ground. After they tore up our ceiling and fixed the pipe issue, they forgot to patch it back up for WEEKS. I had to go in the office to remind them. The response? "I thought it was finished. What else needs to be done?" They do what they need to do to save the apartment and the tenants face the consequences. No follow up, NO APOLOGY, no questions on further issues, nothing. How professional, really. Again- would they treat a family the same way they treat college students? No. Way. EXTREMELY THIN WALLS- by that I mean: you can hear every single footstep your upstairs neighbor takes. I hear them walk, stomp, run, etc all the time. We've gone upstairs to tell them to please be more considerate but the problem is within the construction/infrastructure and unfortunately, that's something tenants deal with. Other minor inconveniences: - they turn your water off randomly (sometimes with or without a forewarning) - maintenance people become your best friend because they're constantly in and out of your broken unit - the gym STINKS!!!! and they don't let you open the window because it freezes up the pipes?? We were nickel and dimed even with cheap COVID era prices, it was not worth the price then or now since rents are higher. Would not live there again. You wont get your deposit back and will likely owe them money on the way out. * Noise is out of control, there was grinding stone noise 9-5 daily with no breaks from February through when we left in June as they went building by building sanding the concrete. We received 24 hours notice it was coming to our building for a week, and no notice for the other buildings which you could not ignore the sound. Not the fighter jets above, those go away and you get used to it. Their 'care' is too noisy. Not an exaggeration, daily. Outside of that there is all day maintenance and/or loud lawn care. This is the main reason we ended up leaving. * Be sure to take photos of everything top to bottom. A nick (~5mm by ~2 inches) in the floor that was there since we moved in cost us over $350 dollars as it was beyond normal wear and tear. Cleaning and holes from hanging items were things we expected to pay even though we cleaned, every landlord aims to claim this ($175 and $80 respectively). * Our final payment to cover this overcharge had a $21.31 processing fee to pay it. * Utilities are a ripoff even for socal. The math they use is in their favor as they charge you as a group (all tenants use water combined together for example) and ensure you not only eat all of the cost should prices rise but the math and process is opaque; you can't do anything about it as you sign that right away in the lease agreement. Also the vendor they use for you to pay this bill takes nearly $10+ in fees each month. * Rent will increase as high as it legally can year over year. * Once every month or so someone will come to your door to sell you candy and offer to venmo if you don't have cash. Twice the garages were broken into with cars vandalized for items in them. Normal UTC stuff. * Neighbors were fine, lots of turnover, and some abandoned cars in the garages but overall ok. * Some neighbors have a pass on the rules of what you can hang on your exterior for some reason, if you are new they will contact you within a day to tell you to take something down. * They have three jaccuzzi's usually at least one is working when you want to use it so that's fine. * Staff were nice read more

However, because of issues with their online system, they are making me drive over to them to drop off a $40 money order [application fee] -_- . I haven't moved in yet so I can't say much about the place itself, but man... this doesn't forebode well Update 1: (changing from 2* to 4*) They called me later that afternoon to waive the aforementioned application fee, so I no longer have to make the trip over there. I was incredibly lucky to find Valentia Apartments tucked into the secluded Renaissance Development in University City. I've visited friends in the other apartment communities in the areas (Crossroads and The Villas) and wouldn't trade my apartment and location for either! Because Valentia is a smaller community, you actually get to know the staff. You're not just an apartment number to them, you're are a neighbor. I was hesitant at first about my particular unit (2-0213) because it was on the first floor, but it was better priced then others in the complex. It's an elevated first floor where the balcony hangs over the gated parking garage--so no one can walk up and see or jump into the unit. Plus it's located behind the north entrance sign wall, with a large fully enclosing sloped hill covered in a bed of ivy and a rustling grove of trees. It's super secluded and secure! At the front, it's just a few steps from the garbage shoot (making trash take out easy) and the stairs to the secure parking. Also, the insulation in this location is fantastic, on the hottest of days the interior stays mild, we rarely needed to turn on the AC, saving utility costs. Each unit (well, at least the 2 bedrooms, I don't know about the others) come with one gated parking spot. You can rent another, but street parking is always available and there are NO STREET CLEANING DAYS or parking time limits so you never have to worry about tickets in your own neighborhood. The maintenance staff (especially Caesar) are superb! All repairs requests can be submitted online and are usually taken care of within 24 hours. They always ask permission to enter the premises and even wear shoe covers to keep everything tidy. The commute is fantastic as well for pretty much anyone. It's a quick drive to anywhere in the Golden Triangle. For those working downtown or inland, you'll always be against traffic. Valentia is perfectly situated walking distance between: --Nobel Field (great for walking, sports, parties...) --The Library (where you can order and borrow DVDs for free... way better then Red Box) --Renaissance Towne Centre an upscale strip mall with CVS, a Barre Studio, Sushi, Pho, Poke, Pizza, Rubios, Which Wich, French, an Italian restaurant with homemade pasta fresh and tiramisu, excellent Thai food and some of the best Lebanese food in San Diego! --A lovely landscaped walking path to the strip mall with fountains, an sculpture, bridges, babbling brooks and duck ponds filled with BABY DUCKS (when in season :D) --UTC Mall - AKA the best Mall in San Diego plus the currently under construction University City Trolley stop! read more

We had a great time in Valentia. The leasing office has been very friendly and helpful through out. It's a shame we did not enjoy any of the amenity but we were happy to see frequent cleaning in the common area. Other than having a pleasant living experience in Valentia apartment, I would like to specifically compliment their business model in terms of leasing policies. We had to end our lease early. Based on our past rental experience in Bay Area, we were mentally prepared to be asked either pay a ridiculous amount of early termination fee or be responsible until a new lease starts ---and the rent difference if the new lease has a lower rent (yep, that's what they do in Bay Area!) In the end, we are surprised by how reasonable they are. The early termination fee is reasonable and they don't ask for paying the rent difference if we choose to pay the rent till the new lease starts. The office manager even nicely reminded us how the current rental market looked like, which helped us make the best decision of which option we are going with. If I have to advice any improvements.... well, the kitchen appliances, especially the stove, can use some updates. It's manageable (we cooked a lot), just not great. So be prepared with that part. A well-rounded team like this is hard to come by and that doesn't happen often. One has to remember, these people are doing their job; and they do it quite well. Anytime I've had a question, needed an issue addressed, or even walked by them, they've always been friendly, classy, and personable. TWO FLOODS IN SIX MONTHS. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Problem 1 : In December 2016 (Christmas time), a leak from the planter outside my window flooded my room and damaged my nightstand. A couple months before this flood, I reported a moldy smell in my bedroom to the leasing office TWICE to notify them of a potential leak and both times they assured me that there was no leak. Problem 2: In July 2017, a pipe in my master bathroom burst and flooded the entire apartment. The damage was so bad that it affected the apartment next door. Management: The repair of the first leak took 7 days, and so I requested a rent deduction for that week. Danielle, the property manager, first said that this isn't possible because the apartment is still "livable," even though my bedroom was inaccessible and my living room was essentially a storage unit, leaving me with no place to sleep. She offered to speak to her supervisor and called the next day to offer me a rent deduction of a mere 4 days. I asked to speak with her supervisor and was given the contact information to Chandra, the assistant to the regional manager. When I spoke to her on the phone, Chandra was incredibly rude and refused to let me speak to the actual regional manager. She told me that they are not obligated to give me anything and that I should be thankful for what I'm getting. For the second leak, Valentia put us up in a hotel room for the first 3 days. However, I was set to move out at the end of the month so I let management know that I was going to move out 1 week early. Again they refused to reimburse me for the week that I moved out early or for my damaged furniture, including some items that were damaged during the repairs. What's even more ridiculous is that I asked Stephanie, the assistant property manager, to have them remove my damaged bed and she said that wasn't Valentia's responsibility. The maintenance team also left the toilet in the bathtub with the rest of my belongings and Stephanie said that I would have to handle this myself. She expected me to pay my own money to hire movers and get rid of furniture that Valentia damaged. It wasn't until I asked to speak to Danielle that I was told Valentia would take care of the leftover items. The management here will always say "no" first and will only be reasonable if you are willing to spend the time and energy to be treated fairly and escalate it to the next level of management. At the end of the day, they are fine when everything works properly but when there is a problem, they will not be on your side. This property does not have the best interest of their tenants at heart and does not operate in good faith when conducting its business. Maintenance: One thing to note is that the maintenance team at Valentia is phenomenal. They really care about the residents and provide great quality service. If any management staff is reading this review, you can learn a thing or two about customer service from your own employees. They do a better job of representing your brand and providing the so called "superior customer service" that Shea P. claims to provide on all the Yelp reviews. read more

As a college student who has lived here for the past year and is about to move out, I honestly have really enjoyed my time here at Valentia and will actually miss it a lot! When I first heard about it, I was skeptical because it is located far from the UCSD campus, and the apartment complex seemed to be inhabited mostly by families. However, I am SO glad that my roommates and I ended up living here, and I genuinely have no complaints, which is saying a lot because I am definitely a complainer. From the get-go, I could tell that Valentia was one of the most organized and well-functioning apartment complexes in the area. My roommates and I checked a dozen other apartment complexes, some which offered more amenities than Valentia, but Valentia still stuck out to us as our top choice for other valuable reasons. The entire leasing process was so smooth and well-explained, and the price that we got our unit for was very reasonable. Compared to the complications that arose with other apartment leasing processes, we found that Valentia was on top of their shit, which made it so easy for me and my roommates. I love everything about our apartment unit--it's cozy, furnished, and the perfect size! The structure of the entire apartment complex is smaller compared to others, but is appealing, quiet, and peaceful, which I appreciated, since my life is already hectic enough as it is. The provided amenities are all very pristine and neat, although they may not be the most advanced or the largest (which I didn't really need them to be anyways since I live a simply life). I also really liked going to the park that is right across the street. I love being outside, and having that park and community center right there was such a blessing, since it was so accessible, and I could just walk right on over. My favorite part about Valentia is that everyone at the leasing office and other staff members are incredibly nice and understanding, and I really got the sense that they cared about my well-being. Vince, who is one of the leasing agents, served as our main point of contact and was always approachable, responsive, and kept me well-informed. The leasing agents genuinely try to foster a community among the residents here through activities like food truck days and other holiday events. Maintenance is also so timely, friendly, and qualified, and whenever we had an issue, we could just conveniently submit a service request online. Usually, maintenance would make an appearance the next day, and everything was promptly fixed with no issues. Parking is also incredibly easy in comparison to other residential areas in La Jolla. I have numerous other friends who live in town homes and other apartment complexes, and parking at their places is always a hassle, which made me realize how great parking is at Valentia. My roommates and I rotated our parking garage spots, but I really didn't mind not having a garage spot, since I could usually find parking on one of the ground level outdoor spots or if not, street parking was always open. There was never a day or night I had to really look for parking because there were always spots available. Overall, I highly recommend living here, and I would say that Valentia is suitable for all types of people looking for a nice place to live in the La Jolla/San Diego area. Tip with apartment reviews: all of them have people complaining so use reviews as a comparison tool between places you're looking at. Search for keywords you care about (eg broken, mold) and count how many hits you get. Getting to the review: we enjoyed everything about Valentina except the quality of the kitchen appliances. We had a 4th floor west facing unit with vaulted ceilings and it was a really nice space. Tons of sun in the evening. Quiet (lots of young families and older couples). Grounds were always clean and well taken care of. Staff was super nice and very responsive. A little shopping center a 5 min walk away (Town Center Dr and Renaissance). Awesome freeway access and easy parking. No bug or mold issues. Move out was drama free. As I mentioned our only con was appliances and kitchen in general. Fridge leaked basically once a month despite them attempting to fix it. Oven was wildly inaccurate. Sink was annoyingly shallow with a crappy fixed faucet. Not sure how they compare to other places in UTC area but it wasn't great. Hope that helps! Good luck in your search! read more

I stayed at the Valentia from January 2010 to January 2020. The Valentia was the best placed I have ever lived, and I was very sad when I left. The place was clean, issues were fixed quickly and quietly, and the people who worked there were very pleasant. The gym met the standards I needed for exercise. This place was indeed a home for my whole time there. The Valentia was very close to the interstate, close to a mall for great shopping, close enough to nature for great walks, and close enough for a walk on the beach. If I ever have to work in San Diego again, The Valentia will be one of the first places I look. I highly recommend The Valentia as a place to call home. read more

It's been 2 years since I moved to the Valentia and I am so glad I did! I cannot recommend this community enough! If you are looking for a quiet and friendly environment, then you will definitely want to check out the Valentia! What really stands out for me is the team of staff . Everyone is so nice and eager to help!!! I have chemical sensitivities and they have been so accommodating, even switching the cleaning products in the common areas to non-toxic ones just for me! They know all of their residents really well and are so great!!! The apartments themselves have high ceilings and thick walls. I was looking for a community that was quiet since I am in med school which can be hard to find in a city. Not only is the community quiet but the apartments themselves have thick walls and high ceilings. The location is ideal being very close to the highway and UTC area. It's also located right next to Nobel Athletic Park where you can find sports fields, basketball courts, library, dog parks and rec center. It's a great place to workout and enjoy the day! I highly recommend looking at the Valentia! I am grateful to have found such a friendly and beautiful environment to live! read more

I am very picky but the staff at this place is the best. From the leasing team (Michael & Vince) to the management team (Stephanie & Danielle) , all the way to the maintainance team of Rommel , Miguel and Cesar...they are responsive and aim to please. It makes living here a dream! They have all gone way beyond and really put themselves out to make sure I am happy....and believe me, I am picky. First off, the office people were all really friendly. They were sweet, kind, and helpful. As a student, this is a plus because they didn't ignore us just because we were students. They listened to what we had to say and helped us with whatever we needed too. The apartments were beautiful and clean. Although they were near construction towards the back, it didn't bother us since our apartment was facing the main street. I like how it was only 3 floors high so the elevators didn't take too long and stairs were convenient as well. It was also close to Longs and that plaza. Plenty of guest parking when you drive inside. But it gets filled up quickly. Lots of street parking though. Our apartment was beautiful! Everyone complimented it; it was spacious and had a killer view. Our balcony rocked! We got the 3bedroom/loft for about $2900/month. Masterbedroom can fit 2 people and had a hottub. Neighbors were sweet and were not students. A plus if you want silence. This place was not a college dorm. Gym was very small but I didn't mind, I rarely used it. When I did, they had a few machines and 2 treadmills. It was at an odd location; right above the leasing office. You had to walk inside. Had racquet ball courts, steam rooms, and quiet office areas to study or hang out. The pool was big but in the middle of the apartment. Had various hottubs in the corners of the apartments. Then why did I give them 1 star? Because 2 of my roommates and my neighbor/friend got their car AND/OR motorcycle broken into AND/OR stolen RIGHT FROM THE GARAGE or STREET. First off, the garage is pretty much open to the public since the doors leading into it were broken sometimes. Also, we noticed a vew vandalisms of cars (several broken windows) all around but thought nothing of it. Supposedly some people saw a suspicious car and the office had information but would not disclose the information. The garage is NOT safe for ANYONE since a friend got their car stolen RIGHT from it. Another got their motorcycle stolen from the garage and his car broken into. The street is not safe either. My friend got his car broken into as well. Valentia would have gotten 5 stars but all the carjackings and unwillingness to help was crazy. They need to install cameras! read more

5/5 would recommend Valentia. Lived here 3 years. Moved out for reasons unrelated to Valentia. Pros: Leasing office team (Vincent, Stephanie, Danielle, and Michael) are outstanding. Friendly and responsive. Same with Maintenance crew. Walking distance both to Nobel park and UTC mall Lots of windows in apartment for lots of natural light (But means insulation is poor) Apartment complex hallways are open air, feels nice (not stuffy like an enclosed hallway) Garage parking is assigned and not overcrowded. Garage is also under the apartments so its easy going from garage to home Apartment complex is generally quiet Moved out was easy (But charged $115 for cleaning) Cons: Rent increased 26% during my 3 years here Gym is tiny and poorly ventilated Shared waterheater seems like one per building that seems not sufficient for peak resident usage. Sometimes shower temperature drops and doesn't get hot enough even at max hot. read more

This is a great smaller apartment complex. It's relatively quiet most of the time (I've only had problems with loud students a few times during my 1.5 years staying here). The leasing office is great on service. They followed up on service appointments to make sure that things were fixed to my satisfaction. They also occasionally delivered packages to my apartment if I couldn't make it home in time before the leasing office closed on weekdays -- it was so great having someone to sign for my wine club deliveries. Parking was also easy -- I had an assigned spot, but sometimes didn't even use it. There was a small gym that wasn't too busy if you avoided 6-7pm on the weekdays in the winter. I had a one-bedroom apartment and it was fairly spacious (800 sq feet), very clean and new, and included its own washer/dryer on the patio. Overall, a great place to live if you want to be in the UTC area. read more

I've been at Valentia for the last year and I can honestly say it has been a great pleasure to live here! From the staff side of things Stephanie, Danielle, Michael, and Vincent are constantly available and always trying to help. As for the maintenance crew including Cesar and Rommel, I could t be happier with their help through the year fixing all the little things with my apartment like our faucet and showers getting clogged, replacing burners on our stove, and even moving our ceiling light fixture! Finally to really top it off this apartment complex is in the most prime location with utc mall a short walk away and the cvs and Chicago fire grill shopping center even closer. Ohh and one last little cherry on top is the privacy and how quite the neighborhood is! read more

Valentia Apartments seems like a pretty cool place to live but seems to have some really unfair practices with no way around them. The hold deposit to rent a place is $500 which after talking to several properties in San Diego is considered an outrageous amount, every other place we talked to only needs a $100 to secure an apartment. Unfortunately our situation changed and we could not move into the place anymore and had to cancel. I tried to work with the management team on splitting the difference, getting some of the $500 back at no avail. I've been checking the site to see what happened to the apartment we had reserved and looks likes its been rented already! So the Valentia Apartments did not actually lose anything from us not being able to rent the place. If you are considering renting here please be careful that their hold fee is the highest in San Diego and if your situation changes, they wont help at all. Makes you wonder how they treat their residents! read more

First of all -I hate apartment shopping because it is a lot like buying a car... My husband and I are in the market for a new place and we currently live in Mission Valley but since my husband works at UCSD we thought maybe we would move closer to his office. It was a beautiful Sunday afternoon and we were excited to be out and about in sunny SD to find our next home until we happened upon VALENTIA. We walked into the Leasing Office and were NOT greeted upon entering the building. We went over to a counter where diagrams of models available were for viewing. We knew we wanted a 2 bedroom but which model was best for us we still did not know. We walked over to the desk of a Leasing Agent since he could not take the time to even acknowledge our presence. He never gave eye contact, never smiled-he was so damn rude. Unfortunately I did not get his name-but he is tall with dark hair. I told him we were interested in a 2 bdrm and he grunted and pulled out a sheet of paper with the prices-circled the rent for 2 bdrm and that was it-nothing more said. No offer to see a model, no offer to ask what day we needed to move not a god damn thing said by the village idiot. I just don't get it-leasing agents just about everywhere we go are so damn rude. They are so condescending -do they not understand if not for the renter-they don't have a fuckin job. Where is the gratitude for us -the renter? This guy pissed me off so much. As a Latina I couldn't help but feel that it was because of the color of my skin that he did not want to rent to me or my white husband. Needless to say we will not be moving to VALENTIA EVER! I will make sure the word gets out on how shitty this place is-I promise. read more

Potential renters beware! Be very careful when dealing with Valentia Apartments (Shea Properties), especially when moving out. ------ PROS:   * Plenty of parking: street and garage   * There is a great park with a library and recreation center right next to it   * There is a car self-wash area, where Valentia pays for the water (or the tenants...)   * Located near UTC shopping and close enough to freeways for easy access CONS:   * Expensive. And the rent is raised every year.   * Management team in the leasing office is super nice and friendly when trying to court potential tenants, but that friendliness diminishes. When moving out, they're the complete opposite.   * Pool is small and doesn't seem to be cleaned very often. I was a tenant for 2 years and I never saw the pool cleaned, or closed for cleaning.   * The workout room is small, but I guess it's better than nothing. Ventilation isn't so great and other tenants don't bother wiping down the equipment after they're done. Also, I don't think they clean this room either since there's always dust building up in the corners of the room.   * Gets noisy at times: parties, dogs, cars, shouting, etc. Seems to be especially worse during the school year. Management doesn't do much about it.   * Putting in a work order for maintenance to come fix something is easy. Having them show up takes a lot longer than expected.   * The move-out process is pretty tedious and the last bill may contain surprising charges. Also, don't expect to get your deposit back. read more

Since my original Google posting, I came home from a vacation to a literal shit geyser. In less than 2 years I have had three bathroom related floods in the apartment - none of them my fault. Regarding the most recent - one might think that the staff would have considered the potential back pressure ramifications to an outdated and under-maintained plumbing system when installing water restricting faucets in all units - but they did not and thus an explosive force of sulfur smelling, black gunk filled water spewed in our place and sat for who knows how long while we were gone. I draw the line there and strongly recommend others stay away from this place. ******* Mostly nice staff and a place that accepts dogs. Really shitty apartments. I should not be able to hear my neighbors upstairs when they open and close drawers or cabinets - but I do all the time. When anyone above me uses water, the sound from the walls is loud. The place is extremely inefficient and is always either too hot or too cold. The place is run down with cheap fixtures. The pools are rarely as warm as they are supposed to be and are definitely not cleaned frequently enough. If you have another option, go elsewhere. read more
