I have never reviewed a bank before, but felt that I needed to convey my experience with Bank of Manhattan. Specifically, with regard their mortgage division. In the past 5 years, I had refinanced twice in order to take advantage of the plummeting interest rates. I had used Todd Fite from Coast Capital in Hermosa Beach and always had a great experience. With rates incredibly low these days, I decided to explore a refinance. So I called Todd only to find out that they had merged with Bank of Manhattan. Honestly, I was concerned that the low rates and great customer service that I had been accustomed to receiving would have disappeared with the merger. Todd assured me that my experience would be the same if not better than before. Boy was he right! I had never had a complaint with Coast Capitol as their service, rates, and Todd were top notch. I can only describe my experience as flawless. Let me explain why: The application process was painless, fast and started on a Thursday. As always, Todd quickly prepared everything and provided a small but typical list of docs he needed. We locked in an awesome rate with absolutely NO Fees! Also, they create online access so you can see exactly what's going on with your loan and even submit docs (if necessary) 24/7! The next day, I was contacted by the appraiser and we scheduled the appraisal for the following Tuesday. By the following Friday, I was contacted by a very professional and kind Bank of Manhattan loan processor, Hilda. She advised that I received total loan approval! I asked Hilda if this was really a full loan approval or that "things were going really well." She confirmed that the loan had officially been approved! I had to contact Todd because I have NEVER had any loan move this quickly. Todd also confirmed the approval and explained that since they handle everything including in-house funding, the efficiency, communication, and promptness has only gotten better. Here is the best part of this refi. I was reviewing the good faith estimate and noticed that my interest rate dropped an eighth! I called Todd, who advised that rates had actually dropped since we locked and he was able to renegotiate the interest rate WITHOUT any additional fees!! Okay, so plain and simple. Bank of Manhattan and Todd Fite ROCK!! All the benefits of a big bank with that small town personal service that you normally don't get from large financial institutions... Not very happy right now with this bank..... When I purchase my next piece of property, I will not be coming back to the bank of manhattan for my mortgage loan. I tried to set up the direct payment since the first billing statement came in back in May 2013. It never happened. So then I resubmitted it in October and was under the impression that it was finally taken care of. It was not and they sent me to COLLECTIONS over a 10 day late payment, which I never received a statement, notice, phone call till it was too late. I had never made a late payment before so I would have thought that some warning would have been set in place. Also their "call center" is some company outside of the US, and they have really thick accents which makes it even more difficult and annoying to have to work through any issues. It is December and once again, I did not receive a statement?! I don't understand where the disconnect is, and I have called twice this month to speak with the loan department and cannot reach anyone on the phone. I pay my bills on time. My credit is stellar. I do not want to jeopardize it because a company can't figure out how to set up a program that they OFFER to their "customers". read more

We are experienced real estate investors. Had initial meeting with bank regarding a small refi loan on a commercial property we use for one our business. Initially excellent service. Suggestions from bank management that the are a "Community Lender". different from large banks. Shortly there after all communication from bank stopped The girl processing our file no longer worked for bank. No one contacted us. We had to eventually go to bank to find out she no longer worked with bank. Weeks later we were told that the loan is approved subject to appraisal and inspections. We were asked to provide both a check for 5k towards appraisal and a large some of money that will need to be transferred to MB bank. We took the advice of our MB rep and provided the 5k The appraisal (they picked appraiser) came back acceptable to meet the 70% LTV. Our rep told us they were drawing the final papers. Then we were told by LETTER that the bank disagrees with the appraisal and will not meet the terms of original loan commitment we have in writing. We are out at least 3k, when I expressed my anger frustration about loosing this money they were more concerned about my displaying my frustration to an employes then carrying about a customer. Months of wasted time, WASTED MONEY and unfulfilled (not promises) but professional suggestions that they will work with me on this simple loan and that they are a community lender. My first time reviewing a bank. After banking with Chase for the past several years, I felt it was time for a change. My business has grown year-on-year, is profitable, and grew 291% this year alone, and I wanted my bank to acknowledge the value of my patronage. I felt the big banks did not do this. As a south bay local, Bank of Manhattan seemed a logical choice to move to, and I was assured a more 'small bank personal service' was offered. Customer service staff were more than gracious, and the account opening process was simple. After depositing a substantial sum in my new Bank of Manhattan account/s, I decided to apply for a small sized business loan to substantially reduce some manufacturing overheads and increase profitability. After submitting myriad paperwork, any follow-up calls and emails went completely ignored (except for a bizarre 'mid review' recommendation that I seek the loan elsewhere with better rates). 2-weeks later the loan was denied literally because (judging from the reply) they couldn't (or didn't) read financials or pro forma statements. The credit department really just don't get it, and wouldnt even answer follow-up questions. Indifferent and arrogant to say the least. Went in and closed my new account only 3-weeks after opening. If the courting period is going to be this bad, can't imagine it's going to get any better. Definitely wouldn't recommend to anyone looking for a bank to depend on for their business needs. It's as though the bank was started by a bunch of guys who just wanted to say they owned a bank. A wise relative once said: Never support a bank who won't support you. Or at the very least can't be bothered returning your call/s. read more

They are close to finishing their brand new expansion in El Segundo and when they do this will be a bank like no other. Beautiful artwork by local artist Amy Theilig and Bo Bridges, valet parking, gourmet coffee, atm and personal tellers you sit across from. I have completed multiple mortgage transactions with Todd and Beny at Bank of Manhattan in Newport Beach. They seem to be able to take the pain out of the process and are extremely professional. It's always run smoothly and on time. They seem to spend a lot time upfront with me and need little or nothing later or last minute to close the loans, unlike other mortgage lenders I've worked with in the past. I really don't like leaving negative reviews (this is my first), but my dealings with this bank have left me confused and initially a little depressed. My wife and I are going for our first mortgage together. After being preapproved elsewhere, we were also recommended to try Bank of Manhattan. We were reco'd Marcie Tatman. At first, she sent back great news and a few great options for us in the South Bay. We were excited, as this seemed to open up different properties and we thought this would be the LOCAL bank for us. Well, after spending many hours getting further information to Marcie (years of paystubs, bank statements, rent checks), she came back with only one option at rates higher and loans lower than the previous lenders we applied with... And, it's not like we are unemployed... We make $300k collectively and have over 10% down... We know not to take anything personally, but we had some questions about this dramatic change of events - It changed our whole situation and essentially made all the properties we were pursuing a waste of time! Marcie will not get back to us. Her boss, Christian Salceda will not get back to us. It seems to me that if you don't get approved at a level high enough to buy in this CRAZY market, Bank of Manhattan hopes you just go away. read more

After 11 years with Bank of America I finally got tired of all the fees and met a guy who worked at Bank of Manhattan at the MB Chamber of Commerce meeting. When he said "NO ATM FEES" I said to myself "done deal" You can use any atm in the world and not get charged. Also they let you opt out of overdraft. This is a nice change from B of A who charged me $35.00 for a 60 cent charge that got posted to my account when it was overdrawn for 1 day. Thats not all though. You go to the bank and there is no line. The bankers are friendly. David was the guy I signed up with and it was just the opposite of what I am use to. My debit card came in 5 days. He followed up 3 times with me to see if i got my debit card, online pin and personal checks. Also, when I called he answered with my name! How about that for service. This is the best banking experience I have had since I first opened a savings account when I was 10 years old. I can't say enough good things about this place. And on the off chance you have to wait a minute or two they have designer leather chairs to wait in. I feel like i'm banking at Goldman Sachs not a regular bank. Oh and I only deposited 300 bucks to get started (i think the min was 100) . Pretty much the quintessential five star experience. read more

I took out a loan for a car several years back, paid it off in full. The bank of manhattan was very easy to deal with and said if there was ever a problem just let them know.
