Overall good service, they got my son an appointment at the last minute. Nice staff who were very patient with my teenager.

This review is purely based on their frame selection. I have been particularly looking for designer brands, but a lot of places I went don't carry too many of them. But Pacific rims has a very good selections of designer brand frames. So if you are typically looking for designer brands, this is probably the right place. The customer service is also outstanding. They are very knowledgeable and patient, and they will give you very good suggestions for frames based on your preferences, and also their opinion about which frame looks good on you when you can't decide. So highly recommended! read more

Very disappointing, in multiple aspects. At first I was pretty happy with their service because the people there seemed nice. But then it took me 2 weeks to receive my contact lenses, even though they promised it should just take a few business days. That was ok, because I still had a few pairs at home. The worse was, a few weeks after I got my contact lenses, I realized the prescription they gave me was too weak for my eyes, and things looked blurry when I tried to see beyond 15-20 feet. It was blurry when I drove and tried to read the street names. I called them to ask for a stronger prescription. They wrote me a new prescription for free, but I would need to pay out of pocket to order new contact lenses. I did that, because I didn't have any other options. They told me each box would be $30, and it should only take 2-3 business to arrive. I believed in them and put the order. But then when I needed to pay, they said it was actually $35 per box, which added up to be much more expensive than I expected because I needed multiple boxes. And, the order took so many days and still didn't come yet. I really needed my contact lenses because I was going out of town. I called many times and left messages about my questions and concerns, but they never got back to me. I'm so disappointed. Most other places I later asked about have contact lenses in stock that you can pick up right away as you pay. I would never want to go back to Pacific Rims Optometry again. So much trouble. read more

Great selection of small frames for such a small store. Unfortunately, Dr. Dong was extremely rude. The only reason I didn't leave during the eye exam is because I wasn't sure that I could prevent being charged for the incomplete exam. I wasn't able to remember the particular sub-brand of contacts I wear (I remembered the prescription and brand, but not their latest marketing effort), and he got angry. Ten minutes into the exam, I had to tell him point blank that I wasn't looking for a confrontation. At an eye exam! You shouldn't have to tell your doctor (who you've just met) that you don't want to fight. And I second Grace M.'s experience with getting a lecture about using generic saline solution. The lecture lasted for the last two thirds of the exam, and didn't contain a single coherent point. He compared using generic to getting a replacement heart valve that doesn't work. He then proceeded to tell me about his great golf game...because without eyesight, you can't play golf? I'm not sure what the point was, exactly, but it was definitely part of the lecture. I can't imagine that he has any repeat customers. read more

This review is based only on the phone interaction with the front desk - I did not get to see a doctor. Unfortunately the receptionist was so rude that I had to stop scheduling with her. When I asked how long it takes to be able to drive after an eye dilation she told me to just get a ride. When I mentioned that in the past I was able to drive home from work after getting my eyes checked at lunch she started giggling and counting the hours from an average lunch time to an average end of work day. I told her that it is not nice to giggle and avoid direct answers, but she never apologized. I have heard great things about the doctors in this office but will choose a different place to avoid a rude front desk interaction in the future. read more

they take VSP insurance the ladies will tell you if the frames you choose are UGLY, so they are honest and they make sure you look good my snazzy dresser friend bought his frames here, so it must be good I chose Dr. Dong based on where he went to optometry school and undergrad. he is good. though the office is small. read more

With one more week to go before I need new contact lenses, and having received horrible treatment at LensCrafters at Stonesview, walking into Pacific Rims felt like a long-shot. Sometimes long-shots do come through though.. The staff here are super friendly. From Vivienne working the front (I managed to practice my Vietnamese with her), to Bruce who is the optometrist at this place. After explaining my situation to Bruce (the fact that I had just relocated here and was trying to establish a relationship with a clinic), and explaining I wanted to maintain the same if not similar type of contact manufacturer and style - he provided me with a complimentary contact lens (same prescription as the one I have today) to hold me over until we sort the details. The young girl working the desk (you know who you are, you hat lover) helped me pick out new, and really fitting Hugo Boss frames, and will be returning on Tuesday to have my final contact lens checkup before placing an order. I walked into this place expecting the worst, but ended up spending 45 minutes, treated like gold in terms of service, friendliness and response time. I would certainly recommend this place for it's staff and service. in terms of frame selection, I can't comment cause the first frame she picked out for me was the frame I bought - it was a no-brainer. read more

I love about this place! 1. amazing selection of frames and employees that will help you help you choose a pair that complements your face and personality. they will not suck up to you and tell you every pair looks great just so you will buy it. 2. customer service. they remember your name and go out of their way. i go to school in LA so I wouldn't have my glasses in time so they shipped it to me. 3. you can make appts online. this works out so much better for me before it lists the dates and time available. even if you don't have an appt you can drop in to look at frames and ask for advice, they are very nice about that! read more

It was my first visit. My husband had been here before. I totally loved the lady eye specialist doctor. The instruments were top notch and the eye examination, tests and lens/glass correction went for about 30 minutes. She gave lots of ideas, helped us in insurance questions, and she was well read. The staff were very helpful and courteous. Any eye concerns again I would definitely go here again. read more

Dr. Selena Chan is very thorough with her exams, feedback and responses to questions. She has helped educate me to build healthy eyecare into my routine. She and her staff have gone out of their way on several occasions for my husband and me. She has helped us get rebates on contact orders and her assistant, Thomas, has advised us on insurance plans. I highly recommend Dr. Chan and Pacific Rims Optometry! read more

The entire team at Pacific Rims is superb! I had never had so much fun getting my eyes checked and had such a fantastic experience. The entire staff is knowledgeable and picked out several perfect frames for me. Prices were reasonable and they had a cool selection in a wide variety of styles and price points. I will never go to another optometrist ever again because Dr. Selena Chan was so amazing. She was personable, funny, and explained the process in a clear and professional manner. I love supporting neighborhood businesses and it felt like a party in their store because of the fun atmosphere. I can't wait to get my new frames and maybe get another pair soon! Go to Pacific Rims, you will be treated as one of the family, find awesome frames and not spend a fortune getting them. read more

Went here yesterday and enjoyed my experience. Dr. Dong was great and very knowledgeable and the front-area staff was super welcoming. Dr. Dong switched me to new contacts and made sure to schedule a follow-up with me to make sure they are working well in a few weeks. They had a small selection of glasses and the nice woman at the front let me pull tons of different pairs out to try. I live in the area and love finding great local businesses to support. I'll be back to this one! read more

Dr. Mehra is very thorough with both my contacts and glasses prescriptions. She is very attentive and even found a minor issue that she referred me to a specialist for. Grateful that she caught it! The glasses selection is vast and the assistants were both very helpful in giving me an honest opinion about the frames I was trying on. They were very patient about explaining everything my insurance covers and does not cover before the eye appointment. Also very thorough in providing itemized receipts about my out of pocket payments. Keeping this as my permanent eye doctor in the city! read more

I have a new favorite doctor, and his name is Dr. Dong. He is so smart yet down to earth. And the staff are super friendly, honest and helpful. I highly recommend this place. read more

How annoying! I have used pacific rims optometry for my eye care for several years, which was fine and convenient, but now they are sending me automated phone calls with reminders a year after I last got my eye checked. I won't go back cause of this annoying spam--if you want to remind me of appointment, trying having a human call me or send me an email or something. Automated phone calling is for scammers and spammers, not reasonable businesses, especially not local shops whose business is primarily serving the surrounding neighborhoods. read more

Every time I go to Pacific Rims I receive warm, friendly, expert and accommodating service and that's exactly why I keep going back to them. They are also very competitive in pricing. read more

Extremely efficient and friendly! They did a wonderful job putting prescription lenses into my designer frames.

Dr. Chan is more than a competent health care provider; she always knows a thing or two about customer service. She's always generous with her knowledge, and her free samples. She was more understanding than she had to be when there was an issue with my insurance, and when the whole thing was sorted out, I walked out of the office with a new trial pair of contacts that I absolutely loved. Her office staff was easy to work with, and scheduling an appointment was easy. I highly recommend her. read more

Avoid this guy unless you're looking for a holistic healer - It's a nice staff, however the exam felt like I was in a car dealership being solicited to buy more options. Mr. Dong tried to sell me a $108 crystal amulet that would allegedly, reduce the wrinkles in my face and strengthen my chi. When I asked him questions regarding the causes of my eye problems, he told me to "look it up on the internet" and explained that I didn't pay him enough to get that kind of information. Also, he failed to dilate my pupils to perform an opthalmoscopy. At $90 bucks a pop, there are better deals out there. read more

I'm terrified of eye exams. Luckily, Dr. Chan is fantastic. She was informative, reassuring, and even offered to help me improve my ophthalmoscope skills! :) I ended up with my first pair of glasses, and the front office staff was very helpful and kind while I fumbled around trying to find frames. I also love that you can schedule appointments online. I'm happy to have found them! read more

Dr. Wong can keep up a conversation with you. The people who work there are really nice and they have a pretty big selection of frames.

I visited Pacific Rims for the first time. It was a very pleasant experience! I've never worn glasses or contacts. They were very helpful helping me understand what I would need my glasses for and a lot of input on which frames work best for me. I'm definitely going to be a return customer. read more

i called the place in the morning and i was able to get an appointment the same day. Dr. Chan was very thorough with the exam, she explained everything to me in the language that I can understand. I like that she took the time explain all the procedures that she was doing and what they were for. this was my second time coming tho this place and both times, i had great experience. The staff was friendly and very helpful in helping and checking your insurance. If you say that you want to find glasses that would all be covered by your insurance, they would be happy to help you. I think they probably get this alot tsince the place is close to ucsf. both times i was there, they helped me pick out the glasses that would look good on me. Parking can be difficult since it is in the neighborhood with many restaurants and other businesses- but if you are looking for a great eye doctor , you should definitely try this place. i think they also have another place in west portal. read more

Not sure about this place now. I have been going here for over three years. Everything was fine however, the last two pairs of glasses have taken over two weeks for me to receive them. They messed up on my original pair let me keep them as a temporary which was nice but two weeks later and I am still waiting to receive my new pair. Not even a follow up email or telephone to give me a status. Mesa Mesa probably wont be back after this horrible experience. So after all was finished they did help the situation. it did take almost a month but they did give me a fair discount so hence the increase in star. I just cannot give five stars because of it took so long to receive them. read more
