This is my go to Asian Market in Hawaii. It is less busy and has better customer service compared to other places. They have a great variety of Asian goodies. They offer fish cleaning and frying. As you check out, they also give deli coupons after purchasing a certain amount. You can redeem your deli coupons for free food at the deli area of the supermarket. 3 stars is for supermarket 4 stars for Chinese Hot Deli in front of store Pacific Supermarket use to be my go to for all things Filipino, since for my other half along with getting in some groceries, before Seafood City since they opened I don't shop here as much. But when I do shop here it is for one particular item for a friend. She loves the bag of mango from here. During my most recent visit, I had a hard time looking for that mango product and also noticed when did Pacific Supermarket looked so messy/clutter. I had to grab what I am looking for quick, the set up of the store makes my head sore. I couldn't find any one to assist me, no workers in sight. I walked thru every aisle until I could get staff to help me. The sale products in middle of aisle is really cheap, I bought a mocha crackerks and didn't check the expiration date. I've been putting a pack of the crackers in my husband lunch bag which he mentioned did you know those crackers you gave me has expired. Yikes. Tip, check for dates before you purchase. Not much cashier working so lines can get long! I also bought a package of spaghetti sauce which I am attempting to try make jolliebee kind spaghetti. hehe. Spend $30. for $1. off coupons to redeem at the Chinese hot deli in front of store, I noticed customers in front had a few of these coupons printed out. I never spend that much to receive those coupons. Hopefully next time. Lately I've been stopping here for the hot deli. Don't judge a book by its cover as the Filipino food selection is pretty good, confirmed by my other half. I usually get the 2 item combo, for only $10.99, does not include seafood items. ( only 2 items, I wanted to get 3 items but not available) I get half pancit and half canton for the starch, either longanisa, chicken adobo, or dinuguan. For the other half's Filipino food cravings. He asked where I got the food from and mentioned its good. No compalints from hin, so I now found my go to for Filipino take out, its over here!! Didn't know this place existed! We went to a similar marketplace that was about 5 minutes away. It was so expensive and fancy and newer. But this place seems like a normal grocery store similar to like what you would find in a Las Vegas Chinatown lol. It gave that vibe. But the small food place right in front is what made it memorable. Reasonable priced plate lunches and you can buy individual items on the menu per pound. I am sad I didn't take a picture but I was hungry lol. We got noodles, fried shrimps with heads, and tiny fried fish for about $13 if I remember correctly :/ The lady that served us served us handfuls of everything! Thank you so much, it was SO ONO!! Especially the little fried fish! Not greasy tasting and VERY crunchy even if it sat for an hour or so! So good! The noodles were simple but it helped balance the fried stuff really well! In the heart of lower waipahu, next to savers, Max's and a few filipino restaurants, this is a great place to shop for Asian food. If you can stand the fishy smell in this grocery store, there are a lot of asian different snacks, canned food and vegetables. They also sell both fresh and frozen longanisa and other frozen commodities not found in regular grocery stores. They sell fresh fish and now they offer to clean and fry it for you as well. They sell truly iced tea here, which is very popular at the moment. At check out, if you buy over $30 worth of food, you get coupons to use at their hot food item counter. Nowadays if we leave the house, I like to make 3 stops to make the outing worthwhile. After going to a plant nursery we were going to order on line from Max's but since they open at 11 a.m. I told hubs, let's go to Pacific Market first. You can smell a fishyness before you grab a wagon to enter the store. There was a long line on the left for Chinese take out in the store. We walked towards the right to find an opening to enter by a cashier. If you are into canned beverages like Coconut Juice, Milk Tea and Thai tea you've hit the jackpot. Hubs is into Filipino soap operas since the pandemic so he was interested in looking at the baked goods and snacks. I had two goals in mind- drinks and Filipino Spaghetti sauce. Fellow Yelper Laurence had recently posted a photo of this so now was my chance. It's much sweeter than what you'd find at CPK or Bravo which I enjoy but after tasting it at a potluck, I was smitten. Once we overnighted in Makati but never tasted this version at Bario Fiesta. I've ordered it a couple times at Golden Coin. Now is my chance...I put in two brands of Filipino Spaghetti Sauce to make myself... just call me Spaghetti Manang...salamat po. read more

The Asian goods selection at this market is great. The prices are higher than I'd like. There's also a hot food line but I didn't really get a good look at what's available. The initial smell that punches you in the face might not be appealing to everyone... Strong fishy smell is all I could gather. The layout feels spacious but certain areas are tight. There's produce, snacks, drinks, meat/seafood, frozen and some small household. Easy to navigate and easy to find anything you're looking for. Parking is good. Lots of stalls, not too tight. Because of the location being not so close to home, it hasn't been a store we frequent. Just a place we pop into here and there. If you're close, I definitely recommend checking it out. This is a great Asian grocery store, that focuses first on Filipino food but also carries other Asian ethnic food, including several harder to find items. For example, we went to Don Quijote first, which typically has the best Asian food selection but couldn't find Panang curry paste. They only had yellow, red, and green curry paste. Pacific Supermarket had all 3 of those plus panang and massaman. That's crazy. I also like how they offer several vegetable packages to make certain dishes--- you just need to add meat. For example, today we picked up the large vegetable package to make pinakbet--- although it was kinda pricey at $15. This store should get 4 or 5 stars but it's also on the dirtier side and in need of a renovation. read more

I've been meaning to make Pad Thai from scratch for a year now but I can't find all the ingredients I need. Luckily, while I was chatting with my dental hygienist she mentioned that she found ingredients from Pacific Market in Waipahu. Sure enough, when I searched them on Yelp other reviewers have specifically found the difficult-to-obtain palm sugar pucks and tamarind blocks from here. It's been 15 years since I've last visited this grocery store. This was way back when there was no Seafood City. Not much has changed in the intervening years. It still smells the same as before. Lol. Yes, it's overpowering as soon as you walk in, but after a while you grow nose blind. You youngins are spoiled. Back in my day, when I was a little girl, all the Asian grocery stores used to smell worse than this place. I remember hating it when my parents would drag me to Asian markets. Oh, yeah, I also found the shrimp paste in soybean oil here that I couldn't find at Seafood City. At Seafood all they had was the salty version. Their prices are comparable to Seafood City, but I did receive a coupon for $4.00 off at their food court. I'm not sure how much you have to spend to get the coupons. I spent almost $50. They have an in-house butcher and fishmonger, a small deli section (although, it doesn't look too appetizing), refrigerators and freezers that are jammed packed with all sorts of "goodies" that one can use to make ethnic dishes and a large liquor section. There are aisles and aisles of Asian staples (noodles, sauces, rice and condiments), household products and snacks. It is an all-Asian grocery store, after all. I enjoy browsing the store for snacks, sweet or savory. Today, I was in the market to pick up items for making a cassava cake for an upcoming family dinner. I walked in, found the ingredients and quickly wheeled my cart through the store. Everything looked so good and I really wanted to try several items. Luckily, I had just eaten lunch so I managed to stick to my shopping list while my eyes went "crazy". Just a little cautionary word: when you enter the store, there is an odor of dried or fermented food products. It may smell a bit funky at first but as you browse, you'll probably get used to it. This is the only place I found so far that carries Indomie Mi Goreng instant noodles! If you have not tried these you better get some! Other than that it's pretty much a Filipino supermarket. After all there is a Jollibee's, Golden Coin, Red Ribbon and Max's of Manilla in the same center. They also make freshly fried smelt, lechon, shrimp, and other goodies everyday near the fish section, great for snacking. If you're looking for more Japanese product head to Don Quijote down the road. It's cold and smells like fish in here, they do have a large selection of fish on ice. Just by looking at the food l could tell it was not good, but then he asked me to try it because, "it might taste better than it looks." Let me tell you it did not. The orange chicken, which turned out to be lemon chicken was served in what looked like jelly sauce. The lo main had a horrible aftertaste and was mushy. I could go on but I won't. Died and went to Filipino heaven. This supermarket has everything on my wish list, including items I've been scouring regular grocery stores for: ube halaya (jam), ube extract, pandan extract and the holy grail: frozen grated coconut! I've found shredded coconut at some of the Asian stores here, but grated coconut is what you need for a Guam dish called kelaguen (note to familian Guahan: yes I have a kamyu but am trrribly lazy and that frozen grated coconut from the PI is really good!). Beyond my grocery list though, their produce is really fresh, they sell live fish and others on ice that you'd normally see at a good fish market (like parrot fish!), and they have a restaurant on site that seemed pretty popular so Imma have to go back just for that. But the one thing that had me gleefully dancing in the aisles is the discovery of PAROLS. They sell PAROLS!! Not the flimsy paper kind, the ones made with shells - the ones I was going to buy online and pay an arm and a leg for shipping. You'll pay a pretty penny, for sure, but I've been waiting for years to buy a parol and now I've got one for the holidays! Maligayang Pasko! read more

I only found out about this store in Waipahu from my co-worker. I work in Waipio once a week (live in town) and she took me here after lunch. There's so much Asian foods, condiments, dressings, boxed foods, noodles, produce, fresh/frozen seafood and meats--the list is endless! Before there was Seafood City, this was the go to place to get the not so common foreign ingredients. You know it's legit when you walk in and you get that strong fish smell at first whiff. THEN you see the Balikbayan boxes. YUP! This is the place to get the authentic ingredients for those home cooked Asian meals. Why I go here?? Because if I want to make kare kare, red rice or anything needing ethnic ingredients, I need the real deal. I will not substitute. What can you expect? A whole bunch of frozen goodies and grocery items you won't find at Walmart and Safeway. You looking for "tanglad" aka lemongrass? It's here. You need tapioca balls uncooked or pho ingredients?? Right here. You want to make a killer red rice and finadene dish for a UYE?? YUP! This is the place! You get it. This is the best place for ethic Asian groceries! Overall, Pacific Supermarket does not have the best organization or smell, but I wouldn't expect it to be anything less. The price is reasonable and makes me think I'm in the Philippines. Awesome large market for all your food needs! I really just needed lumpia wrappers and filling ingredients....I ended up leaving with a few more things that I needed. I enjoy the set up of the store and things were very easy to find. There was only a couple times we had to ask for help to find an item or price. The gentleman we tracked down was very helpful. The only thing I wasn't a big fan of was the smell...I don't know how to describe it but maybe it was a mix of the fresh items that you can get in the store...I mean, after a few minutes you don't notice it but there was a kinda *yucky to me* smell when we first walked in...And there wasn't any shopping carts so a nice old man gave me his as he was leaving. If you are into Asian foods, are Filipino or have a Filipino spouse, Pacific Supermarket is a fantastic place to go for all of your cravings and has stuff that other stores like Seafood City doesn't have. However, that comes with a huge caveat... To be blunt,, Pacific Supermarket has to be one of the worst smelling grocery stores on the island. Holy moly. I don't remember the smell being so strong last time I was here (a couple months ago). I practically gagged when I got out of my car today in the parking lot. It quite literally smells like rancid, spoiled meat as soon as you get to the doorway. Thankfully, your body's natural defenses kick in after you've been in the store for a few and nulls your sense of smell to save your sanity but it's quite unbearable for the first few minutes. I've been to plenty of open fish markets before so I'm familiar with the smell but there's something different about this place. It just smells unclean. The entire store is in a general sense of disrepair and decline with old, dirty floors and a bit of a haphazard look.. It's obvious that it needs a good cleaning and a facelift but I'm not sure if that will ever happen. It's worth it for tons of food items, snacks and goodies that you can't get anywhere else but it's initially a very unpleasant experience. I also wouldn't eat anything from that deli. The smell is the first thing that greets you when you enter Pacific Market. However, after a few minutes you become 'nose blind' like that Febreeze commercial. Variety is big in this store. Spices, fruits, vegetables, household items, meats, and fish. What my family and I like is the convenience. We pick our fish and for a reasonable price, they can clean, season, and fry your fish. Nothing like freshly fried fish to go with hot rice and shoyu. Yummy!! They have some weekends where cleaning and frying your fish is free. Sweet! My family and I live on the Windward side, so when we're craving for fried fish, we go there. The customer service is pretty good, too. It's definitely worth the drive and time to check this place out. Especially if you're looking to try and experience something different and decidedly pleasing. Cheers! read more

Apocalyptic---MRC(Monthly Return Chance)=0.003% I was reluctant to write this review because I know a lot of folks that do shop here for all their Asian groceries needs. But I feel it is my duty to sound off on my experience. Located in the Waipahu Shopping Plaza, this grocery store specializes in Filipino foods primarily and some other Asian ingredients and goods. Firstly, parking requires patience here especially at lunch time where there is an uptick of customers venturing to the adjacent stores which all share the large parking lot in front. I despise that railing in front of the store because then, even though Im lucky enough to be parked right in front, I still have to maneuver my way all the way to either side before getting to enter the store. While I can see how this place was once glorious in its prime, it feels dated now. Floors are cracking, products are dwindling, some of which are past the freshness and expiration date so be careful. Im not sure of the word, icky? sticky? Just walking around the place felt like there was an impending shadow of it ready to cloak you. I came here for one thing, and even had a backup in mind just in case they didnt have it. Red Horse first, San Miguel Light second. They had neither. Two of the most popular beers for the Phillipines, and didnt have it, dissappointing. From some of the other pictures on here, I was curious but not invoking enough to check the cleaniless levels of the shelves since I was already off put by the decay and overall grime of this place. Lastly, the hot deli section. So Ive had this place about three times this year with each time hoping there would be some kind of improvement or something Id like better than anywhere else. Each time it only solidified my assessment and each time it got worse. First, im not sure if this is a Chinese deli or Filipino Deli, or maybe a mix of both, anyways the pancit is labeled as Chow Mein, hmmm (no they are not the same!). Its okay but very, very, oily. I could feel my arteries screaming for help! The dinuguan tasted like old pieces of meat swimming around in grease and copious amounts of salt (I guess they gotta stretch out its longetivity somehow) In fact I wont even call it meat, it was more like globlets of fat. If I had a deathwish, I know where to "meat" it. Just despicably disgusting, worst dinuguan ever. Finally, the chicken wings...They looked promising and I was hoping theyd be the savior off all things apocalyptic so far, but sadly great danger befalled me. Had to just throw the whole thing out. WARNING: dont read unless you want your appetite ruined. Do you know that smell of that rag or towel in the kitchen thats been used to clean up spills of food waste of anything and including raw fish? Take that lingering smell and mix it with the unkept and unwashed chopping board juices and use the same gloves you had all day ( or lack of ) to handle that chicken, then dump it into the fryer with old oil thats also been used for frying and refrying putrid fish, and that is close to the taste of this chicken. Throw in a gag reflex or two and food poisoning symptoms and you can replicate my experience. Look I dont hate this place, but I am just cautioning those who decide to venture this way to be prepared. I truly hope this place can turn it around, it needs a major overhaul and shakedown top to bottom. I believe they can, Seafood City Supermarket may have been the knockout punch to this place, but it can redeem itself with a counter punch. I tried, even doing at least 2 laps of every aisle in the store hoping there would be something that would captivate me, but the same echoes everywhere of "its fresher elsewhere" or "its cheaper at the other places" resonated at every corner. Nothing could save it from the clutches of the 1 star, at least not anymore. If you still decide to want to come here, I implore you to check dates, poke, prod, and sniff if you have to, dont take chances if you dont want to be dissapointed or get sick.
