I've called and visited in-person a number of times to ask about supplies and what time of year to undertake various projects. As a new homeowner, I am realizing that home ownership entails constant upkeep projects! Most recently, I needed firebricks to line my wood burning stove. When they did not have enough in store, Gualala Building Supply promptly ordered more and called me directly when they arrived. When…read moreour reclaimed lumber fell thru for the ceiling at the last minute, we had no choice but to scramble on a Saturday morning for 14ft boards. We called several places in Marin, Sonoma and mendo county. Barnes lumber not only had one of the best prices, but they were able to mill our wood that day! They stayed open so we could drive up from Santa Rosa after work to pick up our order! Super friendly, wonderful couple that run the mill. Fast forward 2 weeks and we find that we accidentally cut a board wrong and found ourselves short a board. Once again Barnes Lumber to the rescue! They custom cut our last 14ft piece, 10 3/4 just what we need to finish the job! Super pleasant. We talked to them at 9 am and order was ready by noon.

We're pretty delicate and gentle on our home and take a great deal of pride in keeping everything in tip top shape. One of the shades opened up on itself (it failed) probably due to poor glue or not enough glue where the shade is held together. Reached out to these folks to see what they can do. It's under warranty but for two weeks I got dragged around by someone telling me they're going to see if Hunter Douglass would do us a solid and fix the blind just to find out that neither they or Hunter Douglass are willing to stand behind what I know was multiple thousands of dollars of work in our home. They have every excuse under the sun and the bottom line is: these guys will pass the buck and they won't stand behind their work. Think long and hard before you sink big money like that into a project with these guys. Eventually we will need to replace our window dressings and I def wont be calling them. Super disappointing.

In both instances, there were multiple employees working at the front desk area on their computers. While they may have been busy, no one acknowledged or greeted us when we walked in. Even a simple "Hi, we'll be with you shortly" would have gone a long way. My wife spent about 10 minutes browsing the showroom during one visit and we still were not approached. We ultimately left both times without speaking to anyone. We understand that some showrooms operate by appointment, and if that is the standard protocol, that is perfectly fine. However, a quick greeting, asking whether we had an appointment, or offering to schedule one would have created a very different experience. We did not have this issue at Golden State Lumber or Ashby Lumber, where we were promptly acknowledged and assisted. Unfortunately, based on our experience, we will be moving forward elsewhere.
