After a frustrating experience ordering a sliding door from Home Depot, I found Dolan's Lumber, Windows and Doors. From the start, their customer service was outstanding. They responded quickly to my inquiry and every follow up email I sent. Brian went above and beyond to help me, and even shared my situation with Milgard. He was also very knowledgeable and recommended upgrading the screen door for the slider since the standard one can feel a bit cheap, and suggested upgrading the glass to help with temperature regulation. He also gave me a quote for the exact door I originally ordered from Home Depot, in case I didn't want to upgrade anything. I really appreciated the time he spent helping me, especially since it was just one slider door. Excellent customer service. They definitely have my business going forward. We visited Dolan's at both the Walnut Creek and Concord locations on two separate occasions while shopping for doors and windows. In both instances, there were multiple employees working at the front desk area on their computers. While they may have been busy, no one acknowledged or greeted us when we walked in. Even a simple "Hi, we'll be with you shortly" would have gone a long way. My wife spent about 10 minutes browsing the showroom during one visit and we still were not approached. We ultimately left both times without speaking to anyone. We understand that some showrooms operate by appointment, and if that is the standard protocol, that is perfectly fine. However, a quick greeting, asking whether we had an appointment, or offering to schedule one would have created a very different experience. We did not have this issue at Golden State Lumber or Ashby Lumber, where we were promptly acknowledged and assisted. We are in the middle of a large addition at our home. We have started receiving our lumber deliveries and I have to stay it has been such a great/easy process. From the sales people at the counter in Concord to our delivery drivers I could not be happier. We have a tight easement/driveway for dropping the wood and each time they have placed it exactly where our contractor needed. Our contractor commented what a great job they did and on the great quality of the wood. Miguel the driver this morning was an absolute pro! Recently we discovered a crack in one pane of our double pane Andersson's Windows. I called Dolan's to ask if they could recommend a company to install the new window. The team at Dolan's is awesome. We have had parts in our windows that need replacement for some time and finally got around to going to the Lafayette shop on a Saturday. They had to refer me to Concord for help with the parts as they aren't expert here. Okay, finally made my way on a Friday to the shop. After a quick chat there, they referred me around the corner to the service office. Laura was super helpful and I walked out with the replacement parts. She sent us YouTube videos for the installation. I appreciate that they didn't push to use their person for the install probably because they are backlogged into December. These folks are knowledgeable and easy to work with. Try to find someone to help you readily in one of those big box stores. Support the local businesses! read more

If I could give 10 stars I would. Went in to get some lumber and inquire about a patio door project for my home. I am recently disabled and I'm in a wheelchair now. One of the employees outside saw me and open the door for me and make sure I got in easily. Then my father and I spoke to Jordan at the front desk. He was very knowledgeable and made sure I wasn't confused about anything before I left. When we went to go pick up the lumber one of the employees outside, saw me going towards the window and helped me out right away and took the lumber and carried it to my truck. I bought all my doors from here. They were excellent quality, heavy, solid wood. However, I paid a contractor on the day of install and the doors were sent before being sized down which messed up the work schedule of the contractors. read more

Dolan and PED constructions came over to check the doors and the wall cracks. They identified the weight shifting problem and granted it was not a structure issue, so my family and my house was not in danger. That was a huge relief on my side. After a few days, they sent team over to fix the interior and exterior wall cracks, and they painted over the walls after they are dry. Overall I'm satisfied with Travis and Jay's communication and professionalism. I'd have rated 5 stars if none of those have had happened. I'm docking 1 star for all the scares and the trouble that we all have to go through. read more

This review is long overdue but I have been coming to Dolan's for 5 years now since I bought my first home. The quality of their wood is top notch and far superior to anything I see at the big box stores. My first project was replacing our interior doors and I couldn't be happier with the end result. Since then we have also done our windows and front door. I was a bit intimidated at first since I am not a contractor but from my first visit I felt right at home. The staff is always friendly. They answer all my questions and they try to learn about my projects so they can make the correct recommendations. The yard crew is great and always load my truck. Even with oversized pieces they helped tie things down and found a way to make it work. I highly recommend checking them out for your next project. read more

I love mom and pop shops and it breaks my heart to leave this review, but after trying to reconcile this situation with management they have left me no choice, but to share my experience with you guys so no one else gets burned like me. I called a number of lumbar yards looking specifically for locations that could deliver me a set number of redwood planks by a specific deadline. Dolan's lumbar yard claimed that they could order it for me and that it would come in time before my set date (2 weeks down the line). So we decided to go with them and communicated all week to confirm the order and the time of delivery. They gave me a 4 hour delivery window time frame and they arrived earlier at 8:45am, but they only had half my order. No one notified me that my order was delayed and I had to find out from the driver that the remaining portion of my order was delayed. This really sucked because I already had my contractors lined up and waiting for this order. When I called them Tammy was exceptionally rude, not helpful, and incredibly dismissive. Her lack of EQ and customer service skills only made the situation worse. She offered no solutions and we had to ask if they had anything else in stock to substitute it. Then she had the audacity to charge us more and say we owed her money when the invoice showed that she owed us money because we opted with a downgraded quality and size of wood. Long story short, I wanted to warn you all not to deal with this shady business who contracts rude staff, has poor communication, and does not deliver what they promise, but is more than willing to take your money. This review is long overdue. I have purchased an entire house of Andersen from Ashby Lumber windows and doors. They look lovely and were much less expensive than Marvin. I like the look of the Andersen product but the hardware in both the 6 windows (crank) and the 3 french doors (lift handle to lock) leave much to be desired past 5 years once the warranty has expired. I have had someone come from Dolan's Lumber (the authorized fixer) to realign them at least 4x, replace the cranks each time it is a few hundred dollars for them to show up. After a few weeks of going back and fourth Tami told me we do not do the service. This was a complete waste of time. read more

The two man team that showed up to my house today was extremely professional and safe. I had two Anderson sliders with screens and two Anderson French Doors serviced today. They informed me how old they were (18 years!!!) and the condition of all doors and screens. They were in and out in 90 minutes and I'm so grateful they came, I should've called sooner! The doors and screens are in incredible operating condition and everything is aligned, smooth and most of all QUIET! They even made sure that all my seals are in the best condition to protect from water damage and will be back to replace one of the French door seals. What a professional and top grade service as the team was extremely knowledgeable about the doors I had in my home. Most of all, one of the French Doors is in my young kid's room and is now easily operable to make sure that they can safely remain in their room and not wonder outside. The icing on the cake for today's service is that I found out that there is a one year warranty on the work completed. That's how well they stand behind their repair work! I love working with Mike who always takes care of me. Mike is extremely knowledgeable, professional, and just a good dude. Dolan Lumber has a department that services their products. We have 17 year old French doors and I wanted them check. They are busy but I waited for an appointment for 3 weeks and it was worth every day I waited. They sent out two technicians that worked very well together - Jon and Keanu. A+++ for customer services and they were so efficient fine tuning my doors so they close and lock smoothly. They even had a part I needed for a handle mechanism. I highly recommend Dolan Lumber. I worked with Diego who was very responsive and gave me a quote for a large lumber order on the same day. The pricing was very competitive, and all of the staff I interacted with during my visit to the showroom were professional and helpful. The delivery driver was highly skilled and dropped the lumber exactly where I wanted it. Just want to give a shout out (for my sister Donna) to Dolans and their subcontractor PED Construction. She had two windows that leaked as a result of the recent atmospheric storm. She called, and within the hour, the call was returned by their manager, Jay De Yoe. He sent out a crew right away to temporarily caulk the areas to avoid additional damage. A few days later Ted and Danny from PED Construction returned to do the necessary repairs. We can't say enough about their level of expertise. They were thorough, professional, and worked extremely well together. She appreciated the way they kept everything clean as they were working and was really Impressed with the way they treated her and her home. Contractor used these guys for a couple of sliding doors and all of our windows. They lost our sliding door not once, but twice. The product was ordered now about 3 months ago and my contractors have attempted to install but due to Dolan continuing to LOSE the product that I paid for, they cannot. Thus, I cannot use half of my house still, because these guys are a couple of morons. Avoid Mike at all costs. Avoid this place entirely if you ever want to get the product that you pay for. read more

My husband and I are completely renovating our first home and we wanted solid wood doors for our two entry doors. Everywhere was so expensive, but Dolan's fit the bill just right! We ordered two unfinished wood doors from them, and they came out beautifully. There was even a misunderstanding with our back door where we thought it was ready for pick up but it was not. The door shop squeezed us in to get our door pre-hung within an hour so that we wouldn't have to come back after having taken an hour to drive to their Concord location. I really love the quality of their product, the only downside I've ever experienced is sometimes the wait at the counter for the Concord store can be long and depending on who you get the customer service isn't always so great. I really want to support Dolan's lumber and I may go back there in the future, but based on my experience to get a basic door done I'm not so sure. They lost the hardware to the door I asked them to make. They kept directing me to the door shop they use, and the door shop kept directing me back to Dolan's. Back and forth, back and forth took four days to get figured out. Finally it was found under someone's desk at Dolan's. The entire time it was getting figured out, they were behaving rudely, as though they were being greatly inconvenienced. Got the door home, didn't fit. Had to sand it down in order for it to fit correctly. Like the two star description says, 'Meh. I've experienced better.' read more

We live in the EBay and needed to replace a pair of 70 year-old 12 ft wide sliding glass doors. We visited all the local places (Truitt & White, Economy Lumber, etc). Dolan was easily the best in terms of price for the quality, general responsiveness, willingness to work with our schedule, etc. There were some minor clerical hiccups with their office staff keeping on top of the paperwork during the long process of ordering custom windows -- but nothing serious. Where Dolan really shined head and shoulders above the others was in the quality of installation work done by PED Construction (which is either Dolan's subsidiary or a partner-firm; the two have a joint logo & letterhead). Their bid-estimate involved a representative from both firms coming together to our house. After our custom doors arrived from Minnesota, the PED installation team led by Ted Gibson and Danny Guerrero took over and did a tremendous job. They were timely, diligent, and painstaking in their craftsmanship. They were super-considerate in their Covid compliance. Their general level of customer service was seriously above and beyond . I only wish that I could hire them for all my home renovation needs! Five stars easily -- I'd give them six stars if Yelp would let me. read more

We were having trouble with several of our Marvin exterior doors locking and opening. I called Dolan's service department as they are a local dealer for Marvin doors and windows. They gave me a repair date in two working days. Ted arrived on time and gave me a call when his was on his way. He repaired the doors quickly and cleaned up after he was done. Good job!!
