First of all I wouldn't trust the 5 star reviews, they emailed me after my sail asking for a 5 star review in exchange for a potential free boat ride. I wouldn't use this company again even if it was free. We were in San Diego for the weekend celebrating our anniversary and I wanted to take my husband on a boat ride, found this company and went to book the sail. Upon check out there was a spot for a promo code, I googled to see if any existed and found there was a groupon for half the price of what I was planning on booking which I thought was a great deal. We redeemed the cruise on 8.28 and it was an all around really bad and uncomfortable experience. When the captain Mick met us at the dock, the first thing out of his mouth was that the company sells these cruises for next to nothing and doesn't pay him and he can only do this if we tip and we should know the retail value of this cruise is $480 and he was expecting 4 people and that's unfortunate because that's the amount we have to burden. We literally had not even opened the gate to walk onto the dock that leads to the boat before he badgered us with this. He even said "I guess I can still take you guys but just wanted you to know" I honestly didn't want to get on the boat at that point - he had set such an uncomfortable tone. The sail then proceeded to be completely awkward and silent (not to mention there was no water or snacks provided as stated). You could tell he didn't want to be there, he just picked a point out in the water, sailed there and turned around. I want to be very clear that this had nothing to do with money. I was more than willing to buy the private 2 person 2.5 hour cruise for $280 that Pacifica offers but randomly found the groupon instead. This was not a $480 cruise for 4-6 people as advertised on their website. The company's confirmation email ahead of time clearly stated it was retailed at $250. I just am so disappointed that we had such a terrible time. I booked this trip as a special part of our weekend didn't enjoy a second of the ride which is the fault of the captain Mick. We ended up tipping him $60 because he made the entire situation so uncomfortable. I wish I gave him zero and never went on this trip. It honestly made our day worse instead of this expected wonderful sail. read more

I would not recommend booking through this company with Captain Mick. The overall boat ride was OK and Captain Mick seemed decently approachable and nice. Towards the end of the boat ride, Captain Mick basically pressured us into tipping him and was breathing down my friend's neck to see how much tip we would give him. His whole attitude changed after we tipped him. I would not recommend this company or booking through Captain Mick. Even with the Groupon price I would not recommend the boat ride. read more

Definitely a Friday well spent! My friend and I had Sailing on our bucket list so we decided to buy a groupon voucher before we both moved away from SD. DISCLAIMER: Pacifica Sailing Charters does not control the weather. So the fact that it happened to be windy, cool (low 60's) with choppy waves in the middle of July was completely unexpected. But our captain made the most of it. Captain Mick is very professional and personable. He upgraded us from the yacht to the catamaran for no additonal $ (because of the high wind and rough water, presumably). Again, due to the weather we had to adjust our itinerary so we sailed out to ballast point and to a few other noteworthy landmarks. And we actually got to see a Sante Fe class submarine returning to the sub pen. He got us as close to it as (a) was safe and (b) the patrol boat escorts would allow -- truly impressive to watch! Despite the very choppy water, Cap Mike "rode the waves" in such a way that we were not sea-sick at all. Registration is straightforward and they send you directions spelling out exactly when/where to meet, what to wear, what to bring, etc. (BYOB, btw). We were out for a simple pleasure cruise and that's what we got. We'll probably do it again and bring a larger group. I highly recommend Pacifica Charters for your next sailing excursion. read more

I bought the Groupon for the Sunset Sailing Cruise to take my girlfriend on. In the instructions that were emailed to us prior to the cruise, we were told we could BYOB, so we brought some wine. Upon arriving, we were immediately greeted by Mick, the captain, and you can tell right away that he loves what he does. He's a real easy going guy that is very knowledgeable about sailing and definitely puts you at ease. He even let me help with the ropes for the sail and offered for us to drive the boat if we wanted. As we had left the dock, Mick asked if anyone wanted him to play tour guide, in case we wanted him to point out some cool things along the way. He had taken us out into the bay past the Navy dolphins and seals which were a fun sight to see. We also got to see some of the Navy submarines and airplanes as we cruised past. I don't think there could have been a more perfect evening for the cruise, it was absolutely peaceful and we had the most beautiful sunset. I would definitely recommend Mick's cruises to everybody.
