We had a very nice experience here and enjoyed sitting on the patio. St. Lawrence market was extremely crowded due to the Argentinian festival. Inside St. Lawrence Market is where you find this cozy pub. I went there for lunch with my colleague and ordered a hot turkey sandwich with gravy. The turkey was a bit hard and dry, which was unfortunate. But the sandwich was hot and the gravy was decent. When we went to pay with our cards, we couldn't use the machine because another machine was in use. I don't see how I can justify more than one star for this place. There's a lot of activity at this restaurant, but very little of it seems to be in service of delivering meals to would-be diners. We were seated and gave our order within about 8 minutes (more than 5, less then 10). Then we waited. And waited. And waited. It took over an hour for our lunch to arrive. At about 40 minutes, I asked the waitress about an ETA. She said she'd check. Which she didn't. I watched. She did say the kitchen was 'super backed up'. Over an hour? That's just BS. Oh. St. Lawrence market is well known for their peameal bacon, and it didn't disappoint. This bun includes an egg, cheese, your choice of toppings ,and they have a variety of sauces you can pick from. The Dijon mustard goes really well with the meat, and I really like how everything managed to stay in the bun! They don't overstuff it but includes just the right amount so nothing is dripping or falling through your fingers. One thing to note though is that while this part of the market is open on Sundays, the rest is closed! With that being said, I did order the food at the counter to take away instead of sit in the restaurant area, but keep in mind it is the same kitchen so the service is a bit slow. I had the same experience as Tammy T. We do not know each other but we went around the same day. 10 minutes to be seated 15 minutes for the waiter to bring water 10 minutes to take our order 30+ minutes for food 15 minutes for the check that we had to ask for 3 times. No joke, we were here for over 1 hour just for 2 ham sandwiches on a kaiser roll that was $13+ each. Literally should take 10 minutes tops. By the way, the food was bad. The bread was stale, the ham was dry, and there was no sauce. We are from NYC. A bacon, egg, and cheese is $5 here and tastes WAY better. Better yet, most places make one for you in 5-10 minutes. Maybe when Bourdain recommended this place, it was a different time because there was not a single thing we could recommend. The waiter didn't clean the table at all, which had residue and wrappers from the previous diner. Worst service in a restaurant ever. If the waiter spent as much effort complaining, sighing and apologizing ( insincerely) to just getting stuff done, it would have been better. The burger took forever to arrive snd when it did, it was dry and flavourless. Paddingtons is a bit of a Toronto institution located at St Lawrence Market. The menu has lots of pub favourites. Their signature dish is a pea meal bacon sandwich, and they also offer all day breakfast. I had a delicious Reuben sandwich and fries. Lots of draft choices although the server didn't bring our drinks order although they were sitting on the bar, so we weren't impressed with the service. They removed the drinks from our bill so that was ok. In summary, good menu, good food, pub vibe, indifferent service. Worth a visit if in the area. read more

My brother got the Wednesday special "hot turkey and mash," he's one to never complain, but it was that bad that he complained, to me at at least. The veggies are frozen and reheated, confirmed by staff. The turkey was dry despite being drenched in "gravy." He thinks the mashed potatoes were real potatoes though, but they weren't pleasing either. I had the safe bet western omelette I added cheddar cheese, which tasted, if you could find any taste after consuming the oil drenched thing, like cheese whiz. I ordered a salad and she sold it as a side, saved $3, thankfully. But that wasn't appetizing either. They had to make me fresh coffee and that was decent. All in all, you've walked by numerous times, I highly recommend you keep doing so. Numerous establishments around. The egg benny - hollandaise sauce was too thick. The roasted potatoes were okay - wasn't crispy. The french toast was decent though. Overall, the food is alright, good for the price! --- Service --- We sat at one of the tables behind the bar, where the waitresses walk to go to the front entrance of the restaurant and to the kitchen. And one of the waitress kept coughing whenever she walked by us, it was quite annoying. We even asked our waitress to change seats after she coughed +4 times. But our waitress said she can't change our seat since we've been assigned to her already. Our waitress wasn't that attentive. We had to wait quite a long time to get her attention to grab the bill. At one point she touched my back and I don't normally like strangers touching me... The menu was also quite sticky... they should wipe it down with a cloth. Also they don't stock up each table with the usual ketchup, maple syrup, cream, etc. We had to awkwardly reach across to share the items with our next table neighbours. --- Overall --- We would come here for the good priced food. We came here to show my friends who visited for the weekend the St Lawrence market; not knowing it was closed on Sunday's. Our mission was for great peameal on a bun sandwich, since our place was closed we came here and ordered the Oink. A grand slam and a pea meal burger. The service was okay, a bit slow after we ordered the breakfast was yummy but the Oink and the burger were a bit disappointing. The peameal tasted old or cooked and then reheated the texture looked more like corned beef and tasted more like ham than peameal. While my guests didn't really know the difference because they didn't know what peameal tasted like; I was a bit disappointed in this experience. The food seems to be okay for breakfast but I would skip the lunch menu. Plus I saw a few tables unhappy with their service during lunch hour. Also my mimosa was poured wrong. The place has the look of a pub but the feel of a diner. You get the feeling that it has a ton of 'regulars'. And as a first timer, I was made to feel totally at home. I'll be coming back for sure. The waitress who served me was super friendly and very helpful in answering all my questions so +1 for the service too. I got the classic oink sandwich, which is peameal pork and cheese on a Kaiser bun. That came with fries and coleslaw and was more than enough food for one person. To that, I say, "If you're busiest time of day is lunch, you should be equipped to cook people's lunch while it's still their lunch hour." No one seats you (at least no one sat us), we just found a table. Service was slow as heck, I thought we were invisible. We had to flag down the waitress multiple times for basic things (i.e. filling up coffee, ketchup, our bill!). My friend got eggs and she said they were pretty standard. I had fish and chips. The peameal bacon and egg sandwich on a bun was fine but the service was awful the place was packed and felt very dirty. Like, I'm all for a greasy spoon, but this place was just gross. Too gross to dine in. So, we got take out and the guy who took our order, handled our money, and picked his nose, also prepared our sandwich. We sat outside on the restaurant patio on wet tables and chairs bc it had just rained. We were told to leave because "outside food was not allowed." Meanwhile it was the food we bought for takeout from the restaurant. The patio was empty so it wasn't like we were taking tables from dine-in guests. Just plain rude and unacceptable.
