Handmade pasta in the borough market with awesome prices sets this place apart from most others. Emphasis on casual but good quality ingredients that are hand made. I queued up at 12 and it was hour wait which wasn't a big deal since there are tons of stalls and spots to check out nearby. The hostess was awesome and very helpful in recommending a dish. Prices here are so reasonable that it's hard to comprehend how they can serve that good of a quality pasta for under 12£! Decided on the fettuccini with nduja. Pasta was cooked well and the sauce was nicely balanced with a hint of lemon that pulled it all together. I was solo so I couldn't order more but their burata looks good too! It would not be uncommon to wait an hour or so but fortunately you can use the app WalkIn to queue on your phone. At Padella, we got a smattering selection of pasta. Cacio de Pepe: some really good pasta where the texture of the pasta and the pepper really shine through Tagliarini with dry chilli, garlic & pangrattato: was a big fan of these. SO WORTH IT! My husband and I came here one evening for dinner. We arrived about 6:21pm and he put our name down, saying to come back at 7:45pm. They actually text you when it's ready. Luckily for us, our table was ready at 7:30 pm. Once we returned, we got seated downstairs near the bar. The bar seating was perfect because there was a guy making fresh pasta right in front of us! It was such a treat to see how the pasta was being made before coming to our plates. In between the two of us, we ordered three plates of pasta, burrata to start, bread and two drinks. For pasta, we selected Cavatelli with broccoli, chili, garlic, anchovy, and pecorino, Fettuccine with violet artichokes, and Pappardelle with 8 hours dexter beef shin ragu. The Cavatelli was very flavorful with just enough spice. The Fettucine was so light and perfect as a starter pasta. The Pappardelle was in a great red sauce with meat cooked to perfection. The three pastas couldn't be more different!! We were so happy with our selection, diverse but all wonderfully delicious. Not to mention that heavenly burrata!!! If you have a chance to go here, do it! I notice for lunch there is always a queue but for dinner I think they take your name and number then call you back when a table is ready. A must-do in London! Padella is a cute and popular authentic Italian restaurant near London Bridge. Make sure to get there early to put your name down on the waitlist. 2 friends and I arrived around 5:30pm on a weekday and we were told we'd be seated around 6:30-7pm. They'll text you when your table is ready, which is very convenient because there's lots to see around the area. We ended up getting a text at 6:10pm which was a great surprise. We were promptly seated at a table in the basement. They really make good use of space at Padella, but doesn't feel cramped at all. Onto the food--we ordered 4 different pasta dishes to share and they were all AWESOME. We got the gnocchi with nutmeg butter, tagliarini with dry chili, garlic and pangrattato, pici with marjoram and garlic butter, and spinach ravioli. Our favorite was the pici which was buttery and flavorful. Least favorite was the spinach ravioli which had an overpowering spinach taste with not much else. However, the other 3 pastas were all very very good. You could tell they were freshly made with love. Our server was a cute Italian woman who even explained how the pici was made. Pasta perfections! * * * EXPERIENCE * * * I already knew how popular Padella is, I couldn't make it to line up before they opened so I chose to go really late at dinner time, arriving at around 9pm, and the restaurant ~20-25 people was still jam packed with 10 people in front of me! On a cold rainy London night, fortunately there's a small covered area right in front of the restaurants with outdoor heaters, very attentive to their customers. Waited for about 30mins before getting in, got seated at a bar table again the restaurant front glass wall. The restaurant is tiny and they have used every bit of space to fit as many seats as possible, but didn't feel squeezed at all. * * * FOOD * * * Pappardelle with 8 hours Dexters beef shin ragu: A The texture of the pasta was. simply. amazing. It was so, so springy that I have never quite tasted anything like this before. Not exaggerating but it just blew my mind about pasta. They added a lot of parmesan cheese, and while the beef was supposed to be melt in the sauce already, I could still taste a lot of the fat portion of beef that enriched the overall richness of the dish. The beef taste was pretty subtle and completely blended with the pasta sauce, and I really liked the fact that it wasn't salty at all. Tagliarini with dry chili, garlic and pangrattato: A Again, the pasta was extremely springy, and over the top it was A LOT of chili and garlic, however it didn't taste overpowering at all and although it's a dry pasta dish, there was still a little bit of sauce which tasted really great from the garlic. The whole thing was just a complicated masterpiece, lots of things going on in my mouth but not a second I felt it was too much. It's just something I continued to explore bite after bite. I still can't believe such a great pasta restaurant exist in London. Next time I'm back to this amazing city I will definitely visit Padella to try other pasta dishes. read more

We were happy crying after eating here!! Coming back to Europe after a trip to Italy earlier in the year, we were looking for the next best Italian spot outside Italy. Spoiler alert - this is it! We got into a massive line... and it was a bit strange because the line was actually for putting your name down and getting a wait time. That line took an hour on a Friday evening. We then put our name down and they said it'll be another hour from then! We killed time across the street at a coffee shop and came back and it was SO SO worth it. First of all, AMAZINGLY priced for such phenomenal taste and great portions!! Burrata was 10/10! The cacio e Pepe was phenomenal - that's what I usually sample! My sister had ravioli which is what she always gets, and said it was the best she's had! For dessert, we didn't know what to expect from the almond and fig tart, but it was AMAZING. We were wishing we had ordered another to share between 3 people! We wanted to go back again the next day, but decided we should sample more places in London during the visit! Come early!! We came here around 6pm for dinner and thought we were pretty early but the line to get on the waitlist was already around the corner. We stood in line for maybe 20-30 min to put our name down and was told we will get a table around 7:30-8, and this is on a weekday ladies and gentlemen! When we finally got seated we were excited to try their fresh pastas. Price is very reasonable for London standards. My boyfriend ordered the papperdelle with 8 hours beef ragu, absolutely delicious and I think I would have preferred that because it has a lot of meat in it. I ordered the pici which was delicious too and very different in flavours than any pasta I have had before. It was refreshing because of the lemony flavour but no meat. This place always had the longest line every time I passed by it, and I wondered why it was so popular. So, (knowing myself) I just had to find out what the hype was all about. I was lucky enough to get there right when it opened, but most people wait about 2-2 1/2 hours for this place's food.. and let me tell you.. I understand why.. And it's worth it. I wanted to taste a bit of everything, so my friend and I shared three pastas & a dessert the waiters recommended! Here is what we had: Paperdelle pasta with pork sausage, white wine, fennel seeds, coriander seeds, mace (outside of nutmeg), parsley, parmesan, & butter. Truly the best ragu I've ever had!!! Pici pasta with marjoram & golden garlic. SO TASTY. This was definitely my favorite out of the three pastas we ate. Yum! I had seen Padella on Instagram and knew that I had to visit when I was in London for the summer. Listen to other reviewers -- I went on a Tuesday night at 5:30 and still had to wait in line for about a half an hour. I was not deterred by this as the pasta was delicious, but definitely get there early to be seated. They cut off the line at a certain point and trust me you don't want to miss out! The pasta is handmade and fresh. We ordered the crab special, the beef ragu, the burrata, and gnocchi. The beef ragu stood out the most to me. I would 100% order this again. The crab special and gnocchi were good, but I wouldn't be in a hurry to go back for them. I also found the burrata to be delicious. While all the food was delicious, I don't think we needed three pastas and the burrata between 2 people. While at the price point it was definitely a bargain, we just didn't need that much food. I'd suggest either two pastas and the burrata or just three pastas without the burrata. Four stars because while the meal was delicious, I am not running to go back immediately. read more

Just...unreal. I literally cannot stop thinking about this pasta. And all of the options are between £4 - £11, which is just incredible. My friend and I went on a Saturday night so we knew to expect a wait -- we got in line around 5:15, got to the front around 25 minutes later, and then were told to come back for our table at 7:30. It would have been a much later time if we'd been a party of 3 or 4, but still worth it. Make sure to get there early if you're set on coming for dinner. Also, try as many different pastas as you can because they're all too good. Between the 2 of us, we ordered the pici with marjoram & golden garlic, pappardelle with chicken livers, and fettucine with nduja, and shared all 3 of them. Everything was fantastic. The pici was my personal favorite -- creamy, a bit cheesy, spiced incredibly well, and perfectly textured. We got the lemon tart for dessert and it also surpassed expectations. Yummmmmm! This place is small and delicious and worth the wait. They have one of those small menus where you could easily order one of everything if you are with at least a couple of other people. I always love small menus when it means that they do everything spectacularly as Padella does. The pasta is homemade and fresh and they utilize high-quality ingredients. You can tell that they prep a good majority of their dishes such as the burrata as well as the steak tartare. Admittedly, I thought the food would not be as good upon seeing the ingredients which they were pulling out from underneath saran wrap and some containers. I was pleasantly surprised at the flavors and the freshness. They are BUSY and become committed for the night super quickly so get there early, use an app to get in line, or wait patiently. After seeing and hearing about Padella for so long, I finally decided to try it! The hype is true. All the pastas we tried were delicious and cheap! My favorite was the Pappardelle with 8 hours Dexter beef shin ragu. The sauce is rich and flavor but didn't feel dense at all. The pasta was thin but perfectly al dente. We also tried the Pici Cacio & Pepe. Loved the texture of the pici and the sauce was sharp and peppery. We also tried the Tagliarini with dry chilli, garlic & pangrattato (aka grated breadcrumbs). Lots of heat and crunch in this pasta! My friend and I shared the above three pastas and a burrata starter. This is so creamy and so good with just the olive oil and some bread. My only complaint is the inefficient queuing/seating system. Padella doesn't take reservations but opens a wait list at 5PM. The wait list quickly gets full and a queue forms outside the restaurant. The organization is misleading since the queue is only for the four outdoor tables (each sitting 2 people with no limit to dining time). They will only sit customers inside the restaurant once the they've gone through the entire waitlist. This means you might not have a chance to dine at the restaurant by 10pm which is when the kitchen closes. I highly recommend joining the waitlist to secure a spot and if not try again another time rather than waiting endlessly in the queue! read more

Located outside the entrance of Borough Market. Come here for fresh pasta. I highly recommend everything in the Pappardelle or Gnocchi categories. We tried The Pappardelle with with 8 hour Dexter beef shin ragu and Gnocchi w/nutmeg butter. Both were melt in your mouth delicious. If you like Al Dente then I would recommend the Pici Cacio & Pepe smothered in a creamy butter parmesan, lemon and black pepper sauce. These were our 3 favorites from the 5 options we ordered. We also ordered Tagliarini w/dry chili garlic & pangrattato. This one in our opinion was a bit dry from the breadcrumbs even though it doesn't appear to be in photos. The flavor was a spicy infused olive oil with crunchy topping. Not bad, but our least favorite of the bunch. The Fettuccine with Cobble Lane Cured nduja, mascarpone & lemon was okay. It had mostly a smokey bacon flavor if you like that sort of thing . I also noticed these 2 pasta dishes were much heavier in the stomach and served in bigger portions. I wish we would have ordered the Pappardelle with rabbit ragu and the Ravioli of squash & ricotta with Puglian olive oil & sage instead of these two dishes since those pasta styles are much lighter. The last 2 stuffed us from being able to try more selections or dessert. Also, I know we would have loved those plates more, but we wanted to take chances and try something different. Sighhh Oh well, you live and you learn. Next time! It's a two level restaurant. Upstairs is where the pasta action is. You can see the pasta being made and cooked right in front of you especially if you're lucky enough to snag a seat at the bar. Downstairs is nice as well and where they have a full liquor bar. There is a good amount of seating but they do fill up fast. Make sure you get there before they open the doors because you must stand outside in a line to get your name on the list. If you don't get in the first round you will be left out in the cold, literally. You could give them your number if you want to leave the line and they can text you. Could be about a 1+ hour wait if you don't get in the first time. You could walk around Borough Market to pass time but you may be way too enticed by all the food and drink around and ruin your appetite. They open at 12 and close midday(3:30) then reopen at 5. I got there 430 and there was a line already forming. By 445 the line was flooding back into the Borough Market so get there at least 30 min before. 4 stars because there are hits and misses, but the hits are definitely 5 stars. It is a nice modern and lively restaurant with friendly, fast and efficient service. Worth the wait and I'd definitely visit again to try more dishes. read more

While in the Borough market on Wednesday the extremely long queue for Padella caught my interest. I knew I'd have to jump in that line. And the next day I arrived 30 minutes before open and got a decent place in line. It was nice to sit at the bar and have a front row view of the kitchen. Lots of fresh artichokes being cut, fresh made pasta being prepped and plates being served up. It's action packed. Pear Spritz while I waited. Bubbly, fruity and an alcohol finish. Refreshing to sip on. Ordered Papardelle in Dexter beef shin ragu. The menu indicates the ragu has been stewing for 8 hours, making the beef almost melt into the sauce. However, I was surprised and slightly disappointed with the sauce. I would have preferred a more savory umami quality to the ragu. Small beef shreds and thinner tomato sauce seem to appeal to a lighter palate. Generous pile of Parmesan grated on-top offers some cheese tang and richness. Fresh ground peppercorns add nuance. However, the pasta itself is the star. Perfectly cooked with al-dente texture. Smooth, dense and a pleasure to eat. No question that this is made by hand with love. I arrived at 5:30PM on a Wednesday, stood in line for 15 min, got on the queue and a table was ready for 2 at 6:15PM, all in all a 45 minute wait, which is not bad. I have been here a couple times already, with my first time right around when it first opened. The handmade fresh pasta is delicious and they have a rotating menu. Price wise, it was between 7-12 GBP per plate, which is pretty good by London standards. The atmosphere is loud, and everyone is in a hurry to serve customers. Service was quick, can't say it is amazing but it certainly feels like a well oiled machine so that it is quick to turnover tables. For me, I probably won't return unless I had a visitor that insists on going. Although the wait for me this time wasn't so bad, I think it is pretty typical to wait at least 2 hours for a table. The restaurant is a bit to busy and loud. Although the pasta is delicious, there is another pasta place (close by) that I'd like to think serve the same quality of handmade pasta with a rotating menu, at a similar price point, and all without the extreme wait in a little more intimate setting. read more

Absolutely worth the wait! I heard about this place from watching a YouTube clip about foods in borough market so I had to try it myself. There was a queue on a Friday afternoon, but I got a table with a friend within 30-45 min. The place is pretty small, but if you're lucky you can sit at the counter where you can watch the pasta dishes being cooked. There were about 5-6 different types of pasta dishes ranging from gnocchi to linguini with mussels. The pasta dishes ranged from £4.50-10.50. My friend and I ordered 3 pasta dishes- gnocchi with basic cream sauce, linguini with baby mussels and this thick pasta in a beef ragout. The pasta dishes were all AMAZING! The sauce of the gnocchi wasn't overwhelming and the pasta was soft tender pillows. The linguini dish had a light sauce flavoured by the mussels and had no fishy after taste. The thick pasta with the beef ragout was absolutely amazing. The sauce was thick and rich from the meat stock. Overall this place delivered and met my expectations. This was recommended to me by my AirBnB host, and the reviews here are great. We were told to come 15 minutes before opening to beat the line, but knowing me, I came 15 minutes AFTER opening, and jeez the line was already winding around the restaurant, with a few curves here and there. Judging by how long the line was, I estimated it to be about a 2 hour wait, so we decide to come back at around 3-5pm when people would be at work or something. Come 3:15pm, and lo and behold, no line at all. At that point we were already crazy full from sampling the amazing street food of London, but I knew I had to make room for the pasta. The restaurant is actually pretty big, as they have a basement level as well. We got the burrata to start, and for the pasta we got the cacio e Pepe, and the olive oil tagliarini. The burrata was great, but I was super full already. I wish it came with some tomatoes, bread, or even some balsamic, as eating it as just cheese was a little bit gross. I do maintain that it was excellent burrata, but I wish it had a little more to balance it out. The pasta was AMAZING. I think they have some of the best pasta outside of Italy (and I live in Brooklyn where there's mad Italians so we have some pretty decent pasta back home). The noodles here were a PERFECT AL DENTE. Each noddle was springy and had a great bite to it. What makes the dish however, is the sauce. THE SAUCE. AMAZING. They don't do none of that cream or cornstarch nonsense - this is some good oil-pasta water emulsion going on. The sauce coated each individual noodle perfectly. I literally licked the plate because the sauce was that good (no shame). Even my friend, who is never impressed with my food choices, loved his pasta. Overall, you HAVE TO COME HERE. It's well worth the wait, but I highly recommend coming here around 3pm for a mid day snack, after lunch snack, pre dinner snack, or just a snack. Who cares. One person can comfortably eat 1.5 pasta plates here, so order a few more! My only regret is that I wish I had more room in my stomach to try a few more of their pastas.
