I own a small hair salon and was struggling with the financial aspects of running the business. Penni Parker was recommended highly by my CPA as a small business specialist working with CPA's whose clients file 1040 with a schedule C (sole proprietor or LLC). However, I did not want the additional monthly fee of an accounting person when I was doing it, and it wasn't costing me anything. It was when my CPA offered me a deal that if I had to pay any additional costs for hiring her in the first year, he would not charge me to do my tax returns that year, so what did I have to lose...nothing, so I hired her on a one-year contract, that was in 2016, 3 years after I opened my hair salon. That was best decision I have made in my business. I ended up paying for my tax return that year because Mrs. Penni made me more money than I had made in the first 3 years of business. First, she spent the first week of hiring her in the salon observing my financial bookkeeping methods allowing her to create many recommendations for changes. by the end of year one of hiring Penni Parker now known as The Ledger Queen she made the following changes with my approval: She created a new checking account strictly for payroll keeping my current account for all operations. Separating out the two for easier budgeting and reporting. She transferred my accounting method from Excel to QuickBooks changing from an accrual method to cash method. She linked my checking accounts to QuickBooks and set up payroll eliminating my payroll service saving me 250.00 a month She downloaded all transactions from the start of my business from my bank directly into QuickBooks and set up automated accounts that the transactions were tagged to. This allowed for reporting and auditing of the first 3 years I was in business. She set up a POS QuickBooks system to electronically accept credit cards and payments from clients that directly integrated with my QuickBooks accounting system, She added an audit trail through QuickBooks by creating separate logins with passwords for all employees to reconcile the sales to the payments daily through the POS system creating risk controls. For length purposes, these are only the things she did in the first month of hiring her. After the first year I learned I am a stylist and not an accountant or finance advisor. I did not anticipate what financial knowledge you need to have to run a business. Hiring Penni Parker didn't end up costing me anything and due to the changes, she made with the financial procedures the salon made more money than it had the prior years I was doing the accounting. I am now able to take on more clients and love going to work doing what I am passionate about allowing time for continued education in new hair cutting and coloring techniques. I also have eliminated nights and my days off because I am no longer spending so much time on the finances. I also now spending more time at home with my family with my extra time and my anxiety about the finances are gone because Penni Parker is the Ledger Queen and even corrected all my errors the first 3 years prior to hiring her. I do not ever write recommendations as it is time consuming, but after getting a bad review on the salons google listing, Penni added at the bottom our receipts asking to please leave a google review and you will receive $5 off your next salon service and people stated leaving reviews, we have gotten so many new clients based off of reviews. So, I was compelled to write a review for Penni Parker and her company, the Ledger Queen because she has done more for the financial success of my salon than anyone. In 2025 we plan to expand with our new financial plan, so she merits this long review recommending her to every small business owner with details on how hiring an accounting person you can trust will enhance your profits and give you more time to do what you are best at!

Unprofessional and poor communication. I'm only speaking of my experience working with Sandra…read moreStockwell CPA for my condo association tax filings. I would NOT recommend her as she was not reliable. I can't speak of the other CPAs at this firm. They may be great for all I know. But here's my experience with Sandra: Sandra Stockwell was my CPA at Lisi, Liberati & Stockwell for the past 4 years for condo tax filings. In the first year, I emailed her while she was on vacation. She responded that she would get back to me when she returned. Well I didn't hear from her for over 2 weeks, so I emailed again. But whatever, fine. Tax forms were filed successfully that year. In the second year, I messed up (I admit that) and forgot about the tax filings and contacted Sandra on April 11. Ms. Stockwell was away for the week (which is strange considering Tax Day is typically April 15), so her associate, Lori, was able to file and send out the tax forms before the deadline. Thank you Lori! I was also reassured that even if I had not filed by the April 15 deadline, I could have filed an extension. Great. In the third year, I contacted Sandra and sent her all the paperwork needed to file our tax forms. She never responded and I completely forgot about it until May 14. When I reached out to her to see if she had received and filed our tax forms, she responded with this exact quotea: "I have stuff". That was her entire email response. I had no idea WTF she meant by this. It was only after I received the tax forms to sign in the mail a few days later, that I knew she had finally done her job. In this fourth and final year (2023), Sandra initiated contact with me saying, "Last year you were late and if late again IRS might give you penalties" Excuse me? WHO was late in filling those taxes? But again, whatever, fine. The tax forms were completed on time and this would be my last year dealing with Sandra since I was moving out of my condo. When I went to sign the tax forms at the office, I let Sandra know that I was not satisfied with her services. I told her everything I mentioned above. She made excuses and blamed the poor communication on the fact that I contacted her through her personal email. Well guess what, that's the only contact info I have! I was given that email by the previous condo president. If Sandra thinks her personal email address isn't reliable, then she shouldn't be giving that email out to her clients. But at the point I was satisfied having aired my grievances to Sandra's face directly, so I told her I wouldn't leave a negative public review. I was satisfied... Fast forward to a half hour later, and I receive an email from Sandra stating that the reason the previous year's taxes were filed late was because I had emailed her the paperwork on March 23, but that the tax filings were actually due on March 15. Umm, first off, I had never been told in the previous 3 years of filing that the due date was March 15. In fact, 2 years prior, I was told of an extension that could be filed if I missed the April 15 filing date. I'm not blaming Lori if that was the wrong info, because honestly she was the only helpful person I interacted with at LL&S. But regardless of the due date, Sandra didn't bother to file those taxes until I contacted her in MAY! So Sandra, you're saying that because I sent my tax paperwork to you 8 days "late", you blew off doing my taxes completely? And on top of that, you repeatedly blame me instead of acknowledging your mistakes. Sandra Stockwell, I will never do any business with you again and I will tell anybody who will listen about my horrible experience working with you at Lisi, Liberati & Stockwell

The short…read moreof it is that if you want to be audited, ignored, overcharged, wait forever, have improper returns, and deal with someone who exhibits professional negligence, Barry is your guy. First, the mundane stuff, that shows a lack of professionalism: Forgot about my returns. Multiple times. Didn't return multiple phone calls and emails. Charged me an astronomical fee. We negotiated slightly lower than the original fee, and then when it came time to pay, he tried to charge me more. It took two months to complete relatively easy returns. Every time I called I was treated as a nuance. One of the final times I called I was asked to give him a couple days, after a week with no contact I gave him a call. This seemed to anger him. Then, the issues that show a lack of knowledge, and general incompetency: Missed my education deduction despite me telling him twice. Didn't deduct my home office despite knowing that I work from home. Improperly reported that I had MassHealth insurance full year, which I wouldn't even qualify for, and when I only lived in the state half the year Initially informed me that I owed thousands of dollars over a Roth disbursement of contributions because he didn't know this was tax free, which I told him it was before we even started, and then had to direct him to the IRS publications. Got me audited in record breaking time. It only took a couple days from submission.
