I haven't been to Padrino's in about 15 years and it was for a baby shower. I don't know why...but we were happy to return when our friend suggested it for dinner. We started with fried plantains. You can order it when black bean salsa or just garlic. We opted for just garlic. They were cut thicker than we are used to and we loved it! They weren't greasy. Our only complaint is we should have ordered 2. I had the grilled chicken. It was very good. Tender and tasty. My daughter & one friend had the seafood stew and LOVED it. It was the perfect portion and she said it was very good. My husband ordered chicken noodle soup and his favorite, ropa vejia. He said it was very good. The soup was delicious! Our other friend had the mahi and he enjoyed it was well. We ended with dessert. My husband had flan, my daughter had their banana pudding (AMAZING) and I had a cafe con leche and I didn't have to ask to have it extra hot. It was perfect temp. Service was okay. We weren't checked on to refill sodas and once dessert hit the table & we took care of the bill, never saw him again to be able to put my coffee in a Togo cup. I think I remember the previous location as being dark, the new space is open, clean and modern. They have both inside and outside seating. It was definitely too hot for us to eat outside so we appreciated the roomy booth for the 5 of us. We had reservations and were sat within 10 minutes of arriving, which was perfect. I ordered catering from Padrino's in Plantation for my mother's 80th birthday, and I have to be honest -- it was a bit disappointing. We ordered a large arroz con pollo platter and the yuca with moro platter. The arroz con pollo unfortunately was very hard and clumped together. The flavor itself was okay, but the texture really took away from the dish. It felt dry and overcooked, and for a special milestone celebration, that was disappointing. I honestly wouldn't order the arroz con pollo from here again. The yuca was also inconsistent -- some pieces were soft and tender, while others were hard. When you're catering for an important event, consistency matters, and this just didn't hit the mark. I've had better experiences dining in, so I expected the same quality for catering. Sadly, this time it didn't reflect the level I was hoping for -- especially for something as meaningful as my mom's 80th birthday. I was a bit unsure about eating here, but it also had been a very long since I have eaten here. Alot has changed, first and foremost they have moved. The new location is beautiful. It feels much more upscale than most cuban restaurants. The people working there were wonderful and our service was outstanding. The first thing that I noticed was my drink, NO can of soda! I hate it when I'm having dinner and they serve me a can soda. We started with a plate Mariquitas with mojo and garlic sauce. They were excellent. They were not greasy nor little bit. The only negative thing was we should have got two orders, one for our one friend who hortted up most of it and one order for the rest of us. As for dinner we all had different things, my friend had dolfin, his wife had a seafood stew, my wife had grilled chicken, my daughter had the special, some kind of seafood soup. And as for me I had to have some chicken soup, other then it of been a bit hotter, it was very good. Then for my meal I had ropa veija with boiled yucca instead of rice and beans. What a great restaurant! The atmosphere was open and bright. The patio was under a covered roof on the outside side of the restaurant with lighting on the tables. The front outside of the restaurant had very welcoming rattan couch and was playing great calming Cuban music. The staff were efficient and sweet and once our meal choice was taken we were left alone to talk. Once or meals came we were not approached u til our meals were completed. We finished all of our meals- the food was exceptional! The sauce on my shrimp was exceptional and I wanted to put all my rice in the sauce! The shrimp were cooked to perfection! I have been to this location of Padrino's so many times I cannot believe I have not reviewed the restaurant yet! On this visit, I went with my daughter and my mother. We started out with cocktails. I had the summer Mojito, even though it was winter time, and it was delicious. ($13,00). My daughter had the Mamajuana old-fashioned and she said it was excellent too, ($15.00). . My mother had a glass of white wine. Our server, Matthew was friendly, attentive, and very knowledgeable about the menu. He asked us what we would like to order and he gave us lots of suggestions and clarification. I had the Cha-Cha chicken sandwich, $17.50, which I have had several times in the past. It is a thin, seasoned piece of chicken topped with caramelized onions and cheese pressed on Cuban bread. It also comes with a side, so u ordered the yummy sweet plantains. My mom had the picadillo, $18.00,) and my daughter had the palomillo steak, ($20.00). Both really enjoyed their meals as well. To our side was a beautifully well lit organized liquor bar. The inside was comfortable but the outside patio dining area was dimly lit, and although it was not humid tonight it did seem slightly depressing. Came here tonight with two friends and the food did not disappoint the hype. The waitress Noheli was friendly and took our drink orders immediately and had a dry martini that tasted wonderful. The soft toasted Cuban bread was a nice side but the black hummus and plantains were over the top splendid. This was a very amazing little Cuban restaurant that has been near me since I lived here and I never had the chance to visit until recently. As soon as I walked in I was greeted by a super friendly hostess who took us to our booth very quickly and provided us menus. Looking over the menus the prices are little on the higher end but I Justified it once I started eating because of how amazing the food was! Our server was very friendly and attentive and got our drink orders right away and brought out super fast as well. We ordered a couple appetizers and one of them, the tostones were heavenly! The crunch of the tostone was wonderful and had a nice flavor to it and not too greasy! I got the Vaca Frita which is a Marinated shredded beef grilled and topped with grilled onions that is served with white rice & black beans and sweet plantains. For $19 dollars it was well worth it because I had leftovers after filling myself up. It was also seasoned wonderfully and the grilled onions were the perfect final addition to this dish. The place was very nicely lit and open floor so you can see everything around you. Came here for the first time with friends who live nearby. Didn't know what to expect from a chain like this but it was great! Despite being dinner time, the service was quick and the staff was kind. We started off with the mariquitas and black bean salsa to share, which was fantastic. I then ordered the arroz relleno (which was the same as arroz imperial) with maduros and it was phenomenal. It didn't have mayo (and if it did, it wasn't a lot of it), so if you like your arroz with mayo, you might not like this one. But I thought it was great. The maduros were also perfectly cooked. Came here for lunch on a Wednesday with a group. I was pleased by the aesthetics of the place and couldn't wait to sit and eat. We were seated at a large round booth and were greeted by our waiter to order drinks. I had a mocktail which was a pina fresca and it was light and refreshing. An appetizer was ordered for the group and I tried the fiesta tostones which was pretty good. I ordered the ropa vieja for my meal and it was full of flavor. I took mami to the "new" Padrino's location in Plantation this weekend. I have to say, they've upped the ante on their food, the way it's plated, and their service! We enjoyed a few bites of ham croquettes made with Béchamel cream sauce, picadillo empanadas with a guava chutney, caldo Gallego, and natural mango lemonade. Everything was to d!e for, including the tres leches we shared for dessert--so uniquely served. We were so happy with Bibi as our server, and the ambiance was very pleasant; with Latin music in the background at a volume where we didn't have to try too hard to talk over it and the other diners. This is my first visit to a Padrino's location and it was for a family birthday dinner get together. Semi casual nice dining vibes. They have inside and outside seating - however even inside feels the weather from outside because they leave the patio area wall open. At every Cuban restaurant I order the Vaca Frita and I did that for this visit as well - it was enjoyable (not the very best but pretty good). I wouldn't recommend the Cuban sandwich with steak as it wasn't S appetizing. I will say they were very kind and accommodating - Our birthday boy is diabetic so he can't have a birthday desert - they provided a smart alternative of a small cafe con leche instead to pair with his Happy Birthday singing! I came to this new location for the first time on a Friday at lunch time and it was extremely busy, but seating at the bar is first come first serve, so I was able to get a seat right away. I always enjoy Padrinos, but this branch is more suburban than Cuban. I ordered the paella, which I admit is not very Cuban. There was a lot of food. But l found that it lacked the flavors or spices that I would expect. I saw lots of families here. More than at the other branches. Therefore, Perhaps they season the food for a crowd that doesn't like things bursting with flavor. The service was a little pushy. The waitress kept trying the upsell me. Another appetizer? Our server probably came around 3 times once to take our order, once to drop off our food, and once to pick up our plates. The restaurant is loud and they would be wise to invest in some noise cancellation ceiling tiles. You had to really raise your voice to engage in conversation at the table. Parking was also a huge challenge for a Tuesday, so I imagine the weekends must be a nightmare. The Food- We started with the sampler and it was ok but cold. My friend ordered the vaca frita and she loved it. I didn't try it and she's European, so I'll have to take her word for it. LOL I ordered the Palomilla steak and it was terrible. It was flavorless and way over cooked. The rice and beans were ok, but the plantains weren't ripe enough so they were hard. For dessert we ordered their trio sampler. The arroz con leche was good, but the tres leche was horrible. It was a glass of milk with a very little piece of cake thrown in.
