We have eaten lunch at Havana's once before in Cooper City. The food and service was good. And they accommodated for the one year old granddaughter. We decided to give it a try for take out dinner. We ordered the Pork family meal, which included, black beans, rice and plantains. It serves 4-5 people. A good deal. The food was plentiful, hot and very good. The beans were delicious perfectly cooked Cuban style. We also ordered plantain chips, accompanied by a delicious garlic mojo sauce. And a salad. It really all started eight years ago when my nephew married a woman born and raised in Cuba. One of the benefits is knowing the hidden gems in South Florida. I can assume this is one. The service here was wonderful. The meals came out quickly, our new friend, Raphael, was so polite and friendly. He actually made plenty of table checks and answered all of our stupid questions. He kept pushing the Flan Casero and was right to do so. Melt in your mouth!!! Every dish that landed was gobbled up. It was so good that if you hesitated, you missed out. A friend of mine invited me to lunch here. I've not only returned, i also have ordered delivery. The best: the introductory bread, it is buttered and toasted and delicious The best: lechon asado. It comes with optional beans, rice and plantains. This dish is completely addicting. The best: Ropa vieja, they kill this dish. Also comes with black beans rice and plantains. I would have preferred to do an online order through the restaurant app but they don't offer their cuban sandwich for online orders so calling in to place the order was my only option. My husband and I came to this restaurant at about 8 PM on Sunday. There was no wait, we were seated right away. The table was nice and clean, I used their restroom and it was clean as well. Our waiter gave is cuban bread with butter right away and some water. We started off with croquettas, the order came with three well sized croquettas, they were delicious! Every time ... they do NOT disappoint. We typically order for pickup when not cooking and just want to enjoy a meal at home. Everything is fresh and delicious. We vary selections but often get the Cuban sandwich with fries as a side. We order vaca frita with plantains and black beans and rice. This is very authentic food and so delicious! We have ordered apps such as the grilled chorizo Casero a la Parrilla and their plantain chips with a garlic mojo sauce are dangerously delicious! As a Cuban living in South Florida , I don't typically go to Cuban restaurants because I can cook the food myself but I had to make an exception yesterday due to circumstance. We ordered the house croquetas and as someone with a sensitive stomach that can't digest milk or gluten, these passed with flying colors!!! I had no reaction to it and they were so delicious and filling. They were NOT greasy like so many places. Absolutely a hidden gem! Their coffee was fantastic and their customer service was on point. It is a super inviting space and very very clean. I was surprised there weren't many people there and once I hopped on Yelp, I noticed the ratings. I am hoping my review helps this business out. Awful experience. I went in to pick up an order for my kid (an entrée and dessert for $25) and I presented a $25 gift certificate, which was signed by the owner. Santiago (at the front) said he would not take the gift certificate because it was from years ago and they changed them. I politely asked why their decision to change their gift certificates affected my ability to utilize my gift certificate. I asked to speak to the manager, and he said he was the manager. Then I asked to speak to the owner, which he denied. Santiago said they were no longer honoring the gift certificates because they were old. I told him that Florida law prohibits this type of behavior, because gift certificates do not expire in Florida. I offered to show him the law (Florida Statute 501.95) on my phone, and he said he knew about it, but did not care. The food was already in the bag waiting to be picked up. There were other customers around listening. It was very embarrassing and sad for my kid and I to walk away so late at night, without food. I drove all the way over there, and waited the 30 minutes that they said it would take to prepare. And even though my daughter was hungry and looking forward to the experience, it felt wrong to be forced to give another $25, when they had already received $25 for the gift certificate. It is very clear that the food we ordered, which was packaged in the bag on the counter, could not be sold to anybody else. So it was essentially going to be eaten or taken home by Santiago, or another staff member, or maybe even thrown out. Very sad to think they could have done the right thing, and honored their gift card, especially considering the food was already made, but instead chose to waste the meal that was specifically prepared for my daughter, unless we were forced to give them another $25. Food was worth it!! The queue out front during this lockdown wasn't friendly. We had line police (patrons) barking orders. No matter when you placed your order you Must wait in line till you make the front of the queue. So basically sit back and wait for order . Food was very tasty and fresh. I tried this place out on a recommendation. My go to is Padrino's because they're simply the best around me. However I was told this place was supposed to also be good. And looking at the reviews, and also being in that part of town this evening, I gave them a shot. I ordered takeout. I deviated from Lechon Asado or Vaca Frita which are my go-to's for Cuban food. I instead got a Bistec Empanizado. I also got Moros and Tostones as my sides. And I requested some mojo on the side for my tostones. I also asked for some Cuban bread a la plancha. I arrived late for my pick up due to weather delays at the place I was at before heading to Havana's. Everything was ready. I got to my car and was famished so I immediately opened the bread. Took a bite. It was supposed to be garlic bread. It was bad. I knew since I got there late the bread would be compromised of quality because was late so I did keep that in mind. However, setting that aside, the bread had almost no taste of garlic, and no seasoning. I got home and tried my Bistec Empanizado. It was well cooked- even though it had cooled down because of my tardiness, it was still crispy and a nice deep golden brown. Sadly, that steak was just meh. The most flavorful part was the breading. I got the Moros and tostones as my sides. Tostones were typical. They were not seasoned though. I seasoned them when I got home. I got mojo to dip them in. Wow I have never seen electric orange mojo in my life u til today. And the mojo tasted like a bottled mojo. Time for the Moros. The Moros were just meh in flavor. They lacked flavor from bay leaf. It was just ok. While I am saying the food was just ok, it really was a touch sub-par. I actually get meals at Pollo Tropical that are better than this one. I will definitely stick to my Padrino's. And even though on occasion I'm on that side of town, I will make a point to drive back to Padrinos for real good Cuban food. read more

It honestly was probably because of what I had. Since I wasn't really hungry when I was asked come there, I opted for an appetizer and it was not good at all. I'd ordered the creole shrimp and tostones. I do not remember the official name. Essentially it was a little tostone bowls with the creole shrimp in it. I had a feeling I wouldn't like the sauce, so I asked for it to be on the side but it couldn't be done. I was correct. Nothing about the sauce was creole and the shrimp was little salad shrimp. Because I have a fear of sending my food back, I ended just dumping the sauce and shrimp out on another plate and just scooping the shrimp back into the little tostone bowls and eating it that. However, due to the increased prices almost every single time we ordered we decided to go to other Cuban cuisine establishments. No shame in them upping their prices but it was just becoming too pricey for our liking. Just yesterday we had plans to order from our usual place, but they were closed. We decided to give Havana's a try again since it had been over a year and we were hungry. After we got the food I was extremely disappointed in the actual meals. I used to tell everyone their food was amazing here and more specifically the tostones. I had never been able to find any this good but I guess that's changed because they were hard as a rock. The meal portions are lacking for what you're paying even if you decide to opt for the dinner portions. Even their chicken was lacking some actual flavor. Not only the food now but the service has always been lacking here. Mainly the takeout staff seem to have an annoyed attitude towards customers and looks to be a recurring issue from some reviews I've noticed. It was a main reason I personally hated ordering takeout from here. I know service jobs suck I should know but it's not even subtle at this point. I don't think that will ever change or improve especially if it's family owned but just wanted to note it. What a nice night to end it with Havana's Cuban Cuisine for din din. My boyfriend, his family, and I decided to come here. There is a private parking lot; plenty of spaces opened :) Masks is required before entering. Once we went inside, we noticed it was not that packed out at all. Plenty of seatings inside. I love a good Cuban meal, so when my friend wanted to take me to Havana's for lunch, I was happy to oblige! We were seated right away and water and bread came out shortly after. I think our server was bored because she asked us about three times in a matter of minutes if we wanted an appetizer, which we declined. I would prefer an overattentive server to an unattentive one, so it was alright. The plates that were already on the table (used for bread) were dirty, but our server noticed us looking at them and brought us two new ones right away. Like I said, attentive! I was surprised at how good Havana's was. Usually most Cuban places over the border from Miami Dade county are mediocre at best. Havana had excellent service, they brought out a basket of hot garlic bread and water for everyone right away. The waiter took the time to explain what he recommended from the menu. I had the Vaca Frita. It was a huge portion of shredded flank steak grilled with onions. The tostones were huge and still warm from the fryer. The rice and beans were smooth and delicious. I could have just had a huge bowl of that and called it a night. Others had the Palomillo steak and chicken Milanesa and they both raved about their dishes. They were good, my wife who hates cilantro even liked the dipping sauce. She also for dinner had black bean soup and rice with a side of fries. I know she enjoyed it since she took all leftover beans home. My daughter loved her steak, she downed all of it and all the rice. As for me I tried something different, chicken al champinon. Simply AWFUL. AVOID at all costs. I've never been to any Cuban restaurant where the chicken soup wasn't great. Here it's POOR with noodles that are so mushy they've been boiling for weeks maybe longer?! I also stupidly ordered Pan con Bistec. OMG, what was that? The meat was so tough I couldn't even bite into it and when I finally did I could barely chew it! And it was totally taste-less! Also, I didn't want the french fries that came with it so I asked if I could have white rice instead. "NO," was their answer. No?
