Booked and paid for a paint session for 3 at Painting with a Twist (Sheldon Rd). I called multiple times over 2 hours before the class--no answer, no live support. I did not ask for a refund, only to reschedule for a later date. They refused any resolution, blamed "lost paint," and "no proof of phone calls" despite several pictures of phone logs provided, and wouldn't even offer a partial refund. Despite the fact that their failure to answer calls made well in advance caused the situation, they refused to offer any alternative, resolution, or even a partial refund. Customers should not be penalized for a company's lack of communication or basic customer service. I've taken many paint classes like this before and have never experienced anything close to this level of poor service. This business takes payment but does not stand behind its service when an issue arises. Extremely disappointing. Avoid.

I used to live in Jacksonville and they had amazing paintings all over the city so you could always find something you liked close to you! From what I noticed, most of Tampa Bay's events are in St Pete, Clearwater, even Sarasota and only a few are actually in Tampa, and the paintings are not too appealing. Other than that, it's always a good time. I usually go with my girlfriends, but this time I went with my husband (event was held at Hamburger Mary's in Brandon - so much fun!) who purposely does not follow instructions and this is what we ended up with! But I had fun and my painting turned out just fine! Our instructor for the night, Kenzie- fantastic! She was very patient with everyone there and input jokes at just the right times. She also went at a slow enough pace that everyone could follow. Appreciated that she went around the room with her painting after certain steps so we could see up close what to do next. Only complaint was that it was kind of hard to see what she was doing as she was at one end of the room and we were in the back and had to crane our necks around everyone's heads to see. I brought the hubby for our date night, who initially had that "oh, shit. really??" look as we saw the room fill up with only women-hahaha! But then more couples started coming in and he became more relaxed. He thought this was a chicks only kind of thing. But it's not! He even said afterwards that he had a lot of fun and enjoyed painting. Already looking at next month's paintings and venues to see what we should paint next! Everything was ready for us when we showed up - the leaves, the base, and the frame were all cut out, we just had to choose our techniques and colors we wanted to use. The woman helping us was AWESOME! She showed us how to do different things to achieve interesting effects on the wood. I loved that they had plenty of examples all around the space so you could look at things and be like - I want to try that technique, or, I like that color combination. The environment was fun and relaxing. They give you an apron, and you sit on a stool at a very large worktable. They sell snacks, or you can bring your own, but we had just finished eating, so we were good. There was also an Intro to Mah Jong class going on while we worked, so it was fun listening to that. Our projects turned out awesome, and it was fun to be able to bring something home with us as soon as it was done.

I have always wanted one of these and to make it myself at my fav restaurant was a bonus. I arrived early to eat but met Lori the owner of Rare Bird Art Studio upon walking in and decided to just go in and chat with her til the class started. Such a great lady with the perfect personality to teach art classes. The whole process was so much fun. There were 20 of us and it was just like being a kid with cooler art supplies and gourmet nomz. Even though my 2 friends could not make it due to last minute rescheduling of class because of tropical storm Debi, I still enjoyed the whole event and highly recommend it. Creating art while eating truffle fries is how I roll!

The artists that work the gallery have always been very ice and friendly. There is one particular artist whose work I fell in love with, Apatx Latorre. His works speak to me and I am fortunate enough to own some. This is not a ritzy gallery and truthfully it is a nice change of pace in the area it is located in. Make sure you wander in if you are ever around.

It looks like they constantly have different art openings, which they keep updated on their website and Facebook. We managed to be in the area when they had one of their Second Saturday "art walk" nights, which was neat because it coincided with the Castle's Steampunk party so everyone was decked out in their best gear. It's always packed on those nights (probably because of the free snacks), but it's fun to stop in if you're in the area!
