We went to the MCFTA web site to look up the hours and menu and the site had the hours: 4:30 to 8 We showed up a little after 5 and asked at the ticket office where the lounge was- the 6 people standing looking at us were like deer in headlights, one person finally told us it wasn't open.... We told them we went on the website and it showed the lounge's hours and it didn't say anything about being closed.... they said nothing. And guess what? I got home from the show and went to the web site and NOW it says it's closed til May...... We haven't been happy with the Center for awhile now. It doesn't feel like it's being run very well.

My boyfriend ended up buying a game he found there, and I was intrigued by the huge selection of Monopoly themed games, such as a Schitt's Creek one. It gets 4 stars from me instead of 5 because the pricing is high - I don't mind supporting small businesses and paying a little more, but my boyfriend looked up one game online and it was like $29.99 at Target or Amazon or somewhere, and they were asking $50 for it, which is quite a lot. I think the game he bought was only like a $2 upcharge, which isn't bad. They also have some fun puzzles, there was a UM one that was a photograph from a Sept. 2011 game. Worth stopping by if you like puzzles, games, or gaming systems.

Scrapbook stores have been struggling in the recent years and I want to support my local store. Unfortunately, it has been difficult to find on trend and affordable items at this shop for a number of reasons. First, the store is organized by theme, not by brand or by kind as in most stores we're all probably familiar with. This works out great if you plan to do a camping layout, a baby layout, or a holiday themed project. This is not so great for those of us who shop by category instead of theme. I usually have to walk around the aisles and browse really hard to weed through the theme items to look for what I want. (To be fair, Thickers & alphabet stickers are against one wall of the shop, and the albums and stamps are in one general area.) Second, the store has limited brand selection. They carry a lot of different items, but for some reason, they are usually not the on trend items that are current and popular. For example, I was looking for some things from October Afternoon, Studio Calico, Elle Studio, and Amy Tangerine and I was told that they either didn't carry it, or that the products they did carry were from old(er) releases. Bummer. Lastly, the items here cost a little bit more unless you have a coupon or they are running a special promotion. During my last visit, an item that I saw elsewhere was priced at $2.50 and it was $5.99 here. That's a more extreme example, but it made me wonder about the price difference. On the upside, the staff here is friendly and welcoming. They try to be helpful. Scrapbook Peddler has also relocated to a newer and much brighter location than their previous store. I am happy that there is a local scrapbook store in town, but due to aforementioned reasons, I may not visit as often. This is probably worth checking out if you're already in the area, but not something to go out of your way for.

The farmers' market is outside and I suspect this place gets pretty busy on the weekends. The street parking is plentiful and I found the shop pretty easily. I was greeted by the owner (Kristin) as well as a few 'regulars,' knitters sitting at a table, crafting together. Kristin was unpacking a new shipment of my favorite yarn in new colors. Suffice to say, one of those skeins never even made it to the wall and came home with me. The selection is much larger than the shop size would suggest. The variety is impressive with known global brands and local products. Plenty of tools and supplies are avaible as well. The prices are competitve and I easily could have spent more time and money.

Visiting the Russell Blueberry Farm is quite the experience. I'd like to note that if we're…read morestrictly speaking blueberries and books, this is a home run. First things first... the blueberries! These are phenomenal and I have nothing poor to say about them. We opted to pick our own ($2.90/lb) and came away with some beautiful blueberries of a couple different varieties. Picking was not very labor intensive, and there was plenty to pick from. It made for a lovely day date and would be great for kids. They also sell frozen blueberries as well as different baked goods and ice cream. Next... the books! I'm a big ole book nerd, and get that tingly feeling whenever I step into an eclectic bookstore; especially one like this that is an old barn. It's organized into genres, but beyond that you're more or less on a scavenger hunt. Some people may hate that, but I find it part of the charm and I always end up finding some gems and discovering new authors. Take note that the books are a bit dated, but some newer ones can be found. Lastly... the employees, which is really what makes the "experience". I'd like to start by saying that the wife, daughter, and friend were friendly and gracious; nothing out of the ordinary. The gentleman owner however, is a very unique breed. He's chatty - which isn't too abnormal - but the things that he talks about are a bit far-fetched and sometimes bordering on inappropriate. As I was book hunting my poor husband was trapped in a 45-minute conversation with him about lord knows what. He wanted to look at books too, so it was unfortunate he didn't get the chance (as soon as we paid we high-tailed it out of there to avoid further conversation). I almost went to find the daughter to help us escape. It's a little heartbreaking that this is the case, as the gentleman does clearly have good intentions, but making customers uncomfortable is not good for business. I'm not sure how I would handle this situation if I were the family members.... I wish them luck!
