I couldn't say no to participating since I've seen too many lived ones suffer through breast cancer and treatment. Plus I love being artsy so it was a PERFECT combination of doing good and having fun! There were 12 ladies in the class with all different levels of creativity running through their veins. Our painting was of a vase with flowers in it. I completely took a different (color and style) direction than that of the original painting and was pleased with my results. That's the fun thing about art- do what moves you! The art space itself is decent, comfortable for a group of 12 and I'm sure potentially a few more. But do note that you have to walk up a flight of stairs to get into the painting area. If you're handicapped or unable to walk up stairs, this space is less than ideal. I'm glad I unlocked my art talent once again. It's bee tooooooo long! I'm going to have to hit up an art store for supplies soon so I can make more creations at home. Very inspiring!

One thing that could definitely improve was the guidance and instructions provided. I noticed some groups received detailed explanations while others, including mine, received very little direction, and it didn't seem to relate to age or gender. They allowed each person to choose 6 colors of paint. My only complaint was the color choices were limited, you could only choose the paints with the black dots, but we made it work. They supplied everything one would need. We were there for so long we seen a shift change, lol! But both workers were so nice! Overall, the place was clean, they had enough tables and chairs for everyone, and they even hold parties or events. Our pieces look a little dull currently but we will be back in approx. 1-3 weeks for our finished, bright and glossy plates! We will definitely be returning and recommending this place!

The board making class was very nice. Easy to follow and there were great saying and different boards you could pick from. The brunch food was so good and there was a lot left over! Unfortunately I think saying unlimited mimosas for the first hour wasn't as what it was listed as. The class leader pours your drinks but it felt hard/weird/awkward to ask for another glass. So each person there only got two glasses of mimosas. I over heard someone asking her for a third later on in the class and the lady said that after the first hour you have to pay. I thought that was wrong, at least for our class. There was really no direction with that.

My boyfriend and I took private salsa lessons from Sarah in the fall of 2014. It was a gift from…read moremy boyfriend to me, and I was pretty apprehensive going into the first lesson. It didn't take long before I realized that all of my anxiety was for nothing; Sarah is amazing! Every lesson with her was a fantastic learning experience and so much fun. While we were taking the lessons, we were also in the middle of a cross-country move, we had to put a beloved pet to sleep, and in general my boyfriend and I were losing our minds. These lessons were better than relationship counseling and really allowed us to reconnect and relax with each other. I'm not dramatic enough to say that without Sarah our relationship would have been in trouble, but I am positive that Sarah and her salsa lessons helped us during a difficult time. Plus we were totally able to impress the heck out of all of our friends at a recent wedding with our mad dance skills! I recommend Salsa Sarah to everyone! Her lessons are fun and empowering, and Sarah herself is compassionate and supportive. Go experience her excellent teaching and vivacious personality for yourself!

Two of my daughters attend various classes at the American Academy, so we are here 5 times a week…read more Compared to plenty of other families, that's pretty tame, which is a testament to the quality of instruction and enthusiasm for the craft here at this ballet studio. We've belonged to three ballet studios (we've moved a few times) and have been here the longest. This school impresses me with the level of quality instruction starting with the youngest kids. At a previous dance studio, the "Pre-ballet" or "Ballet I" classes were taught by young college students (and even one high school senior) who were trying to get teaching experience. Here, every teacher we have had has been a professional and has instructed the kids as such. The atmosphere is caring and loving but also fairly serious. You are following in the footsteps of many dancers who have attended the school over 52 years and have gone on to dance careers. The Nutcracker performance sells out at UB every year, and the end of the year recital (also at UB) is an enormous production. This is not the YMCA's music and movement class. They offer ballet, pointe, acro, contemporary, lyrical, hip hop, Broadway dance, jazz and tap, as well as adult ballet classes. The cost seems comparable to other dance studios in the area, and there is a discount for families. The school also offers camps in the summer, including a "Princess camp" for girls 8 and younger that seems very popular.

Making art together with your friends is a lot of fun--but having everyone sit down to make the…read moreexact same painting (as is the approach at many "wine & painting" studios) seemed a little lacking in creativity for my friends. Instead, we decided to meet at Whimsy By Kelly--and everyone had a great time! The studio is very convenient (the plaza is on Delaware Avenue, just south of Sheridan; her storefront is on the side facing Glencove Ave.) and there's plenty of parking. While it's in a newer commercial building, the 1950s vintage tables and chairs make it feel warm and inviting--and just the right amount of quirky. For the party, Kelly consulted with me on what kind of activity we wanted to do, and we settled on a Zentangle crash course. Zentangle is a meditative drawing practice that anyone can do--you don't have to be "good at art" to make successful drawings using this method! Best of all, all of our artwork looked different! With the tools and techniques she covered, we were each able to produce something unique. She also sent us each home with a little drawing kit so we could practice on our own. In addition to Zentangle, she also offers LOTS of other art classes for kids, teens, and adults. There's something for everyone, regardless of skill level or experience--you can even do finger painting! We really enjoyed our evening and look forward to returning soon for another group "art night."
