It was my first time making a candle. I came here for a birthday party and it was so much fun. You check in and are given a sheet to choose your jar, label, color, and scents. I chose Cactus Flower and Volcano Capri. The employees are kind and facilitate the process, and they do a great job with not making newcomers feel singled out and giving more freedom to advance to those who've done it before. If you're looking for a true Black Girl Magic experience, do NOT go here. There was nothing "Black Girl Magic" about this event. From the moment we walked in, the older white woman at the front didn't even greet us. No hello, no welcome--just "Name?" and "Take a seat there." The energy was cold, rude, and unwelcoming. The staff came across as sassy, nonchalant, and irritated instead of creating a fun atmosphere for paying customers. Even the music was off and didn't match the vibe that the event was supposed to represent. I expected good energy, culture, fun, and hospitality. Instead, I felt like just another dollar sign. I attended the paint event today to support a foundation for women and was able to help them raise funds for their foundation. This was my time visiting Painting With a Twist and I must say that I enjoyed myself. A dear friend of mine was hosting her birthday celebration there and we had a ball. Painting, eating and drinking and toasting her a Happy Birthday. The staff was so professional and fun. They instructed us on gathering our apron before sitting at our table. My first time at this studio was a few weeks ago. I haven't been to a PWAT location in close to 3 years. Overall a great time! Our instructor was great and fun. Good mix of music playing throughout the place. Just remember: 1. Don't wear your fancy clothes. It's a painting studio after all. 2. Bring snacks and/or alcohol drinks! But please, just note that they don't have utensils, cups, plates, etc. read more

*****PART 1***** To whomever this may finds you, After days of contemplating whether I would do this as I am one who usually does not write reviews , I must speak on the strength of my own experience. As one who holds a large following on social media, I've decided to be generous enough to not blast them on my platform as that is simply not my character and as the owner informed me that it is a family owned business, I would never intend to take food from their table and wish them nothing but the best. Nevertheless, If you are black please proceed with caution when booking. My family and friends decided to book me a surprise painting with a twist gathering in one of the private rooms in the back which included painting, music, food, and fun that could have turned into a disaster quickly had we been the typical stereotypical black people they thought we were. Starting out things were great, but as the instructor proceeded she begin to become irritable with my family and friends due to them doing exactly what they paid to do "have a good time". While no one was rude or disrespectful, they were a bit chatty, as a normal large gathering would be that involved food, music & drinks. Also, she was moving pretty fast and we could not keep up so we asked her to slow down. Her entire demeanor seemed to take a shift but we ignored it. As time went on, we asked if she could change the music and began to get up and dance throughout our break that she gave us, keeping a safe distance from the staff I danced around, mingling with the parties involved and well I can't express this enough being very respectful with it. Time passed, the young lady on stage began to grow more irritable as she instructed the class, it was very noticeable. She suddenly sent us on another break and rapidly stormed out the room in irritation due to the chatting amongst ourselves, everyone was left in confusion. Time after that, the owner (or the lady from the front desk) presented before us and called me out by name. Being as though it's my birthday, I continued to dance as I answered her with great excitement. She rudely demanded "IM GONNA NEED YOU TO STOP THE FREAKY DANCING, THE FREAKY DANCING WILL HAVE TO STOP, NOW!", in confusion I responded, "I'm sorry?" because what appeared to her as she calls it 'freaky dancing" is actually a cultural dance in the black community, quite offensive as she repeatedly insulted me and She then went on to explain how my (cultural) dancing is making her staff uncomfortable. As a healthcare professional, I would recommend that she learn deescalation and professional etiquette. The first step in appropriation is investigation, she immediately presented herself in a demand of delegation and utter entitlement because in actuality the instructor was upset because the class wasn't quiet but decided to go with a different narrative so she wouldn't look like the bad guy. It would be deemed more appropriate to ask one to step in private for a conversation or away from the party instead of intending to humiliate me in front a room of thirty individuals ;however, I can advocate and stand up for myself, respectful. Next, I would recommend that you guys educate yourself on diversity in a place of business because apparently dancing while black means that you're gyrating all over the place or as the owner referred to it as "freaky dancing". I proceeded to explain to her how it's my birthday and I did nothing inappropriate of the sort, specially being as though my parents were in the room with me and how her (instructor) or daughters seemed uncomfortable throughout the entire class from our choice of music, to it being a room full of predominantly black people. I respectfully gave her an insight on my take of the situation in which she seemed to have lack in understanding, I also asked If she could replace the "uncomfortable" staff or her daughters because we were simple here to have a good time and didn't want any bad energy, she of course refused. She was quite passive aggressive from the moment we stepped foot in the building, ultimately forcing one of our other members of the party to depart after we offered to purchase a ticket for that individual despite the miscommunication was a red flag in itself. If you're into painting in silence, humiliation, and no cultural dancing then this is the perfect place for you ! There's a plethora of other locations that allow you to have a great time without making you feel like you're being watched because of the tone of your skin. I've always enjoyed painting with a twist events and this is the first location I've ever experienced someone attempt to humiliate me. Thank you for your time! This was such a fun experience! I was visiting Collierville for the weekend and decided to do this because the weather was cold and rainy. This is great for a date night, anniversary, girls night out, birthday, etc! It was so much fun and the energy of the employees was great. They were fun and energetic. There was good music playing the whole time. You can bring your own alcohol or snacks. They give great instructions on how to paint the picture step by step. My wife and I celebrated Valentines Day here and we had a great time. They let you bring in your own wine, and sit at a table with others who are looking to learn how to be the next Picasso! The instruction was great and we will definitely go back. We sat by a couple that had a little too much to drink that night and they almost ruined the experience for everyone by being obnoxious and loud. Can't control that at all but it did distract us from the experience. If you want to try something different and have something to show for your efforts then this is the place! read more

I went to this establishment for the first time to celebrate my friend's birthday.. The staff was so friendly and welcoming... and Very funny! Our instructor was Kate.. She is awesome!!!
