Ok, trust me on this one. I know, I know... You were planning on eating at one of the super…read moreexclusive little restaurants where they ferry you by boat to the middle of the lake but you arrived too late and missed the last ferry and now you're stuck and the only place you see is this little local dive bar. Go. Eat here. Don't look for a big blue "A" outside the doors; you won't find it. What you will find is an actual local spot owned by a husband and wife (they are the only two employees) who cook up AMAZING food at pretty cheap prices. Entrees run $15, appetizers around $3, beer at $1. Bottled water only, no free tap water. Now: there will be no English going on here, so brush up on a "I want" and "my wife / friend / kid would like" before you go. The menu is 50% translated into English (lots of dishes with "chiken," -- no "c") but if you have an AT&T phone you'll be in luck and you can Google everything faster than your phone works in the states. Empanadas... Great. Arañas... So yummy (not actual spiders) Steak Mufungo... Best on the Island. Creole Chicken... Light and bursting with flavor. Tostones... Theirs beat the crap out of every other plantain served in the commonwealth. Corona... Freezing cold little 7oz bottles that go down like the nectar of life. Live guitar music and dancing on Sundays in the evening. Super-nice owner (he'll shake your hand and introduce himself as he apologetically says "no English"). Crazy-good "Mom made this" food. Go local, or go home!

Sitting outside facing the Atlantic Ocean with the cool ocean breeze was such a beautiful and peaceful experience. The views alone made the stop worthwhile, but I was pleased with the entire experience. The service was great from start to finish. For appetizers, I ordered the Chicharrones de Pollo, which were flavorful and crispy. I also tried one of the mozzarella sticks, but it didn't have that satisfying cheese pull I was hoping for. My man ordered the shrimp mofongo and really enjoyed it, while my brother-in-law was very happy with his snapper fish. For my entree, I chose the Mofongo Relleno de Pollo, a mashed plantain mofongo topped with chicken, and it was delicious. The portion was decent and packed with flavor. For dessert I tried the guava flan. While the flavor was nice, the texture was a bit too tough for my liking. Overall, the food was delicious, the service was excellent, and the oceanfront views were absolutely amazing. If you're passing by the area, Playa Brava is definitely worth stopping by for a meal and a chance to enjoy the scenery.

We felt a little underdressed in our hiking clothes, this would be a great place to dress up and have a dinner out. The service was amazing- and the food was 4/5. The empanadas were DELICIOUS- definitely the highlight of our lunch. The rest of the dishes were good- the fresh caught red snapper was deep fried- which took away the experience of it being fresh. Coconut Shrimp, Salmon, Mahi Mofungo, Seafood Paella were all good- not the best ever- but the whole experience was perfect.

Not the best seafood place in the area…read more We (a party of four) went there on a Friday afternoon for lunch. We were seated fairly quickly, in the inside part of the business as there were "no seats outside" - that wasn't the case. The server came promptly to take our order: @drinks - mojito, sangria, water and a soda. The sangria tasted like pouch sangria poured into a glass and the mojito had little to no rum. @Starters - marine sampler, which was greasy and overly cooked. @main dishes - paella marinera for 2, lobster tail, and stuffed mashed plantains with ceti (local fish). My overall impression of the main dishes wasn't great for the price we paid for the meal ($$$). The paella for two lacked flavor and the seafood wasn't properly cleaned (the shellfish had the poop vein); the lobster wasn't local and tasted weird; the stuffed plantains with ceti were very salty. For the latter we offered our feedback to the server and she just took the plate away, without offering any substitutions or following up. Enough to say that I'll not be coming here again. The price of the food goes beyond the quality and service. The only nice thing about the place its the view, which we got to see through a window.
