The gas and bathroom were good. I think the Shell less than a mile down the road might have cheaper gas. This place didn't have lottery tickets. When we asked them, they pointed us to the casino next door. The Shell down the road sells lottery. I'm not entirely sure why we stopped here because we went to the Shell last time but oh well. My friend said the bathroom didn't smell bad but I thought it smelt slightly foul. There was soap and warm water and paper towels. The selection of items and food seemed to be rather good. They had batteries and lighters which impressed me. The microwave was also impressive to see in such a random mart. We got Reese's pieces and melon rings for $5.98 which doesn't seem too bad. There were a few things out of order on the hot drinks machine but I wasn't in the mood for any hot drinks so it didn't matter to me. The cashier wasn't enthusiastic or especially nice in any way. If you're coming or going or even briefly staying in the town of Bishop, this is the only gas station that you should be visiting and filling your tank with. First off, nothing else is cheaper. Even more so if you keep your plastic and go green. As in cash. Maybe it's because I always stop here on my way back to LA and it's downhill to a certain degree...or...there is some serious tribal mojo in this blend. I can't prove it. It's just that the mileage I get is otherworldly. I get back in town and have, like, a half a tank left. BEWARE this place! They just charged $12 over on the gas I pumped. The attendant looked at the receipt and he looked at the pump and he said "Sorry there's nothing I can do about that." Very best managers and only the honest employees work here. It is the best gas price in town too. I dropped my wallet inside this gas station over xmas vacation. It ended up costing this gas station $10.50 and shipped it back to my house. Just imagine yourself in my situation losing your wallet, not being able to drive to work after the vacation, and not able to get cash from your own bank without an ID card, then needing to wait for a new issue card to be received by mail 10 days later. Besides getting tickets from police and stopping at the jerky store another place has made me stop in Bishop. Paiute is pretty cheap on prices and super clean. I hate it when you got a gas station and you see that everything has a thick layer of black. It is horribly disgusting and almost bad enough to step foot into the store. Not only is this the cheapest gas in Bishop usually, they have a guy that often washes your windows while you are pumping gas, and fairly clean restrooms! In other words, its a WIN WIN WIN stop. Right next to the casino if you are feeling lucky... none the less there is often a line to get to the pump but it is worth it IMHO as the line is shorter than a typical costco. I dont think I have ever waited more than 2 cars (memorial day weekend '10) to get to the pump. There is only so much you can get/do at a gas station. This particular location exceeds those expectations with several full service - services for a self service rate. This seems to be the least expensive place to fuel up in Bishop. Every time I've passed by, it seems to be busy. They have the usual travelers' knick-knacks for sale inside. So I usually pay cash to get better price, but last time I used a card. Two weeks later my card was used in a fraudulent transaction. Same thing happened two years ago, a week after I had used my card here. Since it's on a reservation they aren't subject to same laws and enforcement. Regular unleaded is very poor quality. There is a filler or something else is very wrong with it. There is another poster under "Reviews Not Recommended" that had the same problem, and another individual on Google Reviews also with the same problem. I suspected something was wrong a few weeks ago. I do not drive much so it takes about 2 weeks for me to go near empty. After close to a week, my light already came on. Something was noticeably wrong. I went to VONS instead and filled up, and that tank lasted me the usual 2 weeks. My truck also ran smoothly. I filled up today and immediately my engine was pinging, vibrating, inconsistent, and ran as if the engine was cold. I've never felt anything like this (except when the engine is cold). I could not get up hills without flooring it. It was fine before, so it is clearly the gasoline. I am monitoring the miles I get per tank both from VONS and Paiute. I have the data for VONS, and I know the miles will be much lower for Paiute (working on this tank of gas now). Go to VONS instead. Prices are very close, sometimes even cheaper, and your engine will be happy. Paiute Palace used to consistently be the lowest, but that is no longer the case, and you aren't getting what you pay for. read more

Cheap gas, but it can take awhile. Sometimes, the other gas stations up the road will be really close in price (a couple cents off) so you're better off going ahead if this place is packed. Inside, they have random specials for every day of the week (ie Sunday - $1 coffee, etc.) along with the average selection of gas station garbage -- twinkies, candy, ice cream... fill 'er up! The bonus of coming here is to hop into the casino after you pump and hopefully win some money! With a Mammoth pass, you get $10 to spend for free, so we were usually able to win back our carpool money! Not bad :) read more

Since they are technically owned and operated on Indian land, they offer some of the cheapest gas in the state. They also have casino's onsite if you would like to hit some slot machines. This place did have the cheapest gas.... but also the worst. I filled up here on my way out of town because it was the cheapest. After about 40 min of driving I had already used about a half tank of gas and my car was not driving well. I had to stop in Lee Vining because my check engine light came on and the problem was not going away. The next morning I took my car to the Shell gas station and garage in Lee Vining (VERY helpful!) and they told me that there was a problem with my fuel intake and that i must have somehow obtained bad Gasoline. Ended up filling up there (because i had already blown through the gas I got at Paiute Palace) and about 2 hours later my Check engine light when off. We stopped in a few weeks ago & filled up with diesel at the Paiute Palace Gas Station. The automatic shutoff didn't turn the diesel pump off & it ran all over the ground and the truck. The people inside didn't seem to be concerned about it, even though the pump was defective. When we got back, I wrote to the department of Weights and Measures. We got a phone call telling us they have no authority over gas stations on the reservation. Which I kind of figured anyway, but thought it might be worth a try to get things rectified if the station isn't willing to do it on their own. The gentleman told us that probably their filters needed changing, and you take a big chance in getting water in your gas or any kind of foreign material getting into your tank and carburator. I don't think it's worth taking a chance on getting a messed up engine to save a few cents on gas, and from now on, we'll go where things are maintained properly. read more
