I used this place since it's now the only one around the New London area. I paid them to box and ship an antique statue which arrived broken at its destination. I had to refund the customer, so I not only lost money, the statue was ruined. I requested the $100 insurance FedEx included in the shipping price, and was told it took a long time to get a refund from FedEx. It's been over a year, and Pak-It won't even return my calls. It's obvious FedEx won't pay because it was Pak-It's fault due to their lousy boxing. The staff, except for the owner and who I assume is his wife, keeps changing. If anyone opens nearby this place is going out of business. read more

I've used these guys to ship a couple large paintings (3x3 feet) for clients of mine across the country and they did an excellent job building a custom shipping box that protected the artwork. The clients were overjoyed to receive their commissioned pieces intact. The staff was professional, informative, and not only seemed to know what they were doing, they were invested in making sure my work was protected. read more

I went in here to make two copies of a single page document and send off two FedEx envelopes with my pre-paid labels on them. It was very busy and there was no workspace/counter for customers to get organized. It was dirty and disheveled. As it was, the FedEx delivery guy was already there, and even he didn't have a workspace to get everything organized and labeled. He seemed to be struggling. It made for a chaotic experience that was conducive to mistake and an overall unpleasant experience. I shall not return. read more

Absolutely the worst. They closed their private mailbox business with hardly any notice, leaving me and many others hanging. They're closed more often than they're open. There's a sign on the door right now saying they are closing at 2:00PM today. I'm posting this at 1:35PM and they're already closed. I wouldn't trust them with anything at this point. read more

This store is a total sham!!! They ripped us off by $100. They over charged to overnight my purse to me, put it in a used box (the person who it was sent to before had their shipping label on it, under mine.) I didn't get it overnight but a day past that. If it was sent direct from a FedEx store it would have been about $70 max (and that is for next day delivery) and they charged us $172 !!! If sent from the post office it would have been less. They said they are a third party - but for $100 extra dollars. DONT GO TO THIS STORE! Unless you like to spend lots of money for poor service and product! read more

The owner, Jake, of "Pak-it of Southeastern CT llc" out of the Waterford, CT office admitted to placing unposted and undisclosed surcharges on customers shipping via UPS and FedEX from his stores (he also has a Pak-it in Old Saybrook, and an associated store in East Lyme). He also admitted to facilitating employees to lie to customers when questioned about surcharges. At this time there is no sign in Pak-it that lets customers know that there are surcharges, nor does the bill state anywhere that there is a surcharge. After being charged almost 150% of what the actual UPS shipping charge should have been ($64.69 versus $45.18), and calling the owner to inquire about the discrepancy, the owner proceeded to rant and scream about how he can charge what he wants, how he can upcharge to make what profit he chooses, and that the UPS site provides an option to click on "Authorized Shipping Outlets" where it states that charges may vary by location, (and I quote) "my employees have no business knowing what my profits are" so he lies to his customers when they ask what the upcharge is and states that there is none. On 12.9.11 at 2pm, my husband shipped a package with Pak-it out of the Waterford, CT office. He was charged $64.69 for a package to ship via UPS that UPS.com quoted at $42 and change. He asked if they surcharged for UPS shipments and was told NO, that they had to charge for a 70lb package because of the dimensions. He was unable to get in touch with me while at Pak-it. Since I was the one who had done the detailed quote on UPS.com he assumed I had made a mistake in the process and that what the Pak-it employee told him was the truth. He got in touch with me at 2:30pm and told me what had happened. I called Pak-it and was told again by the female employee my husband had dealt with that they do NOT upcharge UPS shipments, only USPS shipments (which is posted) at $5 per package. I was also told that UPS.com does not include fuel surcharges and or additional handling charges. I promptly called UPS and was told that those charges are included in the online detailed quotes, but as I did not have the dimensions the Pak-it employee had entered, they could not give a precise quote at that time. When my husband gave me the invoice from Pak-it last night, I entered the dimensions and add-ons into the online UPS quote and again came up with $42 and change. I called UPS directly again and got a precise quote from the central Florida billing office of $45.18 for the package as shipped by Pak-it. The UPS representatives that I spoke with acknowledged that the Authorized Shipping Outlets can add surcharges that very by location. When asked, Pak-it stated that they do NOT add a surcharge. This afternoon, I contacted the owner, Jake, who as I described above, screamed and said that he doesn't have to tell his customers or employees about the upcharges because UPS.com and FedEX.com have a link for information on Authorized Shipping Outlets that states the offices prices may vary. This may be, but when directly asked what the upcharge is, Pak-it states there is none - to me that is the definition of fraud. They have a sign and disclose the upcharge for USPS shipments. To me that makes it even worse, and when asked why the charge is different that the shippers quotes, they further lie and state that the shipper quotes aren't accurate - I was directly told by a female employee of Pak-it that if I went to a UPS store, I would have been charged the same thing ($64.69) with all of the surcharges they added (insurance, fuel, residential delivery, and delivery confirmation). All UPS representatives that I spoke with stated this was not the case that I would have been charged the $45.18 and that the detailed quote on UPS.com does include all of the surcharges. read more
