I love Pala Nails! Now under new ownership, Andrea does a wonderful job of making sure everyone is comfortable and take care of. I've even come in for walk-ins and they always do their best to accommodate as quickly as possible. The salon itself is clean, the massage chairs are to die for, and I always leave relaxed with a super long-lasting mani pedi. They offer a great loyalty program to earn spa services and a new lower prices for teenagers. I don't post often but felt the need to for Pala because I love it here! IMHO, if you aren't happy with your cuticles before you leave just ask your technician instead of posting about it in a public space. Just a thought- revolutionary, I know! Mine were atrocious today with the Chicago winter weather and my technician whisked them all away. Do yourself a favor and try them out! read more

Honestly the worst experience I've had in my life. I don't ever write reviews or complain but this nail salon was horrible. I spent $220 on a pedicure and full set which I personally think that price is outrageous. I called ahead of time to make sure they do full sets with tip because this was going to be my engagement nails and the owner said they do. I go in, and she starts doing my nails completely different than how they usually should be done and she also cut multiple of my cuticles. After the set was done it looked like Walmart nails you glue on, I didn't want to start anything because I had already spent over 3 hours in there. I just wanted to pay and leave and go. I go to pay and I tip $25, which is honestly a good amount knowing that the service I got was horrible. THE OWNER demanded I tip 20% because I had to, I was so shocked. I ended up tipping the $55 she demanded. When I leave, exactly 1 hour later 8 of the nails just POPPED OFF. I have never been so shocked in my life. I go back to the salon and the owner wasn't there so I talk to her on the phone and requested she give me $100 back for the nails she charged because they all fell off. She started arguing with me saying she "warned" me ahead of time my nails would fall. Would I really be that stupid to pay $100 for nails for my ENGAGEMENT if I knew they would fall 1 hour later. She argued with me for so long stating she cant give me a full refund and can only give back $60 back. I thought it was crazy but I was so done with her disrespect and unprofessionalism. Mind you, she basically just gave me my tip back and still kept everything I payed for my nails.... I have never met someone so greedy before. The employees are good and I don't blame this on them, it is fully that owners fault. I have a business as well and if this were to happen to our customers, we would do a full refund and in fact offer them something in return for their bad experience. I love getting my nails done at Pala Nails. Everyone is friendly, professional and the shop is very clean. There is a very large selection of different polishes and products. I have been using the dazzle polish which lasts over a week and a half. I have never had a bad experience there. They are in a convenient location with lots of parking. All of the polishes on the wall looked like they hadn't been used in some time and had to be shaken to see the true color. I couldn't find a regular color to match my manicure so I picked a no chip and three women yelled at me for picking a no chip color for my pedicure. They tried to convince me to use a regular polish that I hated so I asked them to please use the no chip I had picked. My tech complained throughout about having to use a no chip color and it was very obvious as they they spoke about me in another language. It was a $55 pedicure and I was made to feel like I inconvenienced them. I will not be back. read more

I walked in and asked to get a no chip....although there were only 2 customers in the salon, the employee just said no. I work near Pala, so I've been here a handful of times to get manicures and pedicures. Their color selection is about average: all of the OPIs and Essies are there. I like to be a little outlandish with my nail color, though, and they are lacking in the super bright department. They're definitely not the best quality nail treatments-- I've had bits of nail polish stuck to my skin after I leave, and I just got a manicure with some bubbling in it. The past three times I've been to Pala, I've come during the Friday rush. Each time the lady at the front has told me they are "too busy" to take me and to "come back later." I'm not mad that they're busy, but I hate how she doesn't offer to put my name down, book me an appointment, or even just tell me how long the wait might be. It doesn't feel like Pala values my business enough to extend the offer, so I'll be going somewhere else from now on. read more

They tried to do a good dip powder manicure but it was awful. It took 1 1/2 hours, is super thick, and still the color is not solid. Plus it was way more expensive than other salons in the area. $55 vs $40 elsewhere in Highland Park. Would not recommend at all for dip powder. My experience at Pala was just adequate. I wanted to try a less expensive salon closer to home, and I got what I paid for--less--much less. At my station, the water was tepid, and one of the water jets did not work, though my technician assured me it did. She did not clip or shape all of my toes. When giving me a leg/foot massage, she omitted toes! Same for rinsing scrub soap and lotion. I still have grit between my toes. To be fair, she did apply the polish correctly. At the drying station, all clients were to receive a shoulder/neck massage. Mine was perfunctory at best, especially since my hair was caught in one of her rings and was constantly being pulled. I will never return. Yuck! read more

If I could give this place 0 stars I would. The service is HORRIFIC. I went in with my 2 girls and got a no chip manicure which was not the best manicure I ever received. First off the person that did my nails didn't even care to clean my nails or soak them in water. So I didn't like the way my nails turned out. I did not leave a tip and as I was walking to my car a woman came out after me demanding a $15 dollar tip. I was shocked. HOW UNPROFESSIONAL. I ended up giving her $5. The service here was horrible and the quality of the manicure was terrible. Don't waste your time coming here, you're better off doing your nails yourself. WORST PLACE EVER!!! read more

I went here to get my manicure and pedicure done for my friend's wedding. The entire bridal party got their mani and pedi done here so it was a bit crazy. Still the service was exceptional and everyone was so friendly! I loved how they have so many options for nude/pink colors- every bridesmaid got to pick her own shade of pink. I didn't believe the reviews until it happened to me. I had been here once before and the owner, Joyce, and Becky, who did my pedicure, were fine. Nothing great but OK. I went back today for a pedicure and had the totally opposite experience. I was about 10 minutes early but was rudely greeted by the owner and rushed to pick a color. I had a different pedicure person and to say she was rough, surly, and sloppy would be an understatement. She didn't have a name tag so I can't even call her out. When I was done, Joyce, the owner, asked how it was. I said, "mediocre" (and that was being kind). When I paid the $35, she kept insisting I add money on for the tip. I told her no repeatedly. She then informed me that "I have to tip because she provided a service." I told her very calmly I just paid for the service and tipping is optional. She said "everyone loves her and she's such a nice girl." I said that was not my experience and left. Never again! With all the choices in the north shore, I'm surprised they're still in business. And by the way, I never write yelp reviews so this had to leave a pretty bad taste in my mouth (or on my feet). read more

I have been going to Pala since it opened. It's a friendly salon, with plenty of parking. I never have trouble booking an appointment and my polish lasts a full week! My pedicures are also great. I have some toenails that are difficult to polish and they always look flawless. Anna always takes time to ask me how my nails were from the previous week in case I have any problems. read more

I was frequenting this salon and purchased a we deal $100 services for $75 if used by April 30th. Didn't make it in by that date but details indicated the card would revert to the $75 value for 5 years. When I stopped in last summer receptionist fussed at me that the card had no value "promotion, no good anymore!" so I paid for a manicure and pedicure. When I checked the details of my deal it specifically spelled out the 5 year value of the $75 paid. I have been going to Pala since it opened. I have always spoken very highly of the salon. When I moved down to the city, I continued to drive to HP to get my nails and eyebrows done. The only reason I am giving Pala two stars instead of one is because of my long history of five star experiences. But the service has been going downhill over the last several months, and after my most recent experience, it is unlikely I will be going back. I took my sister-in-law in this past weekend to get our nails done for her birthday. We were seated next to each other, but my SIL had to wait 10 MINUTES for anyone to come do her manicure. Then at the end, my SIL had to walk herself over to the dryers. Usually the manicurist walks you over, carries your phone and purse, turns the dryer on for you, and gives you a little back massage. NOTHING for my SIL. The girl didn't even come over to make sure she got situated OK. And then there was the girl who was doing my nails...... 1) When we came in, I informed the salon that I had three broken nails. I was told that there was not enough time to do a nail repair, but that they would glue the nails. However, not one step was taken to help my broken nails. 2) I asked her to make my nails all the same length, but that I wanted to keep the length. Not only are my nails too short to get a french manicure for my sister's wedding in a week, but they are no where near the same length. In fact, every nail on my left hand is shorter than on my right. 3) When she started putting on base coat, she had not yet done my cuticles. And when I asked her about it, she said she had. Well, because I was so concerned about the fragility of my three broken nails, I was paying very close attention to what she was doing. She didn't do anything to my cuticles other than put oil on them, and she certainly didn't soak them in water either. So basically, I got a very expensive polish change, and super short uneven nails. Moral of the story.... NEVER AGAIN. read more

I will NEVER go back to this nail salon. They are very rude and unprofessional. I also have to question their level of cleanliness. They do have machines that sanitize the instruments; however, my tech pulled out a cuticle trimmer from her drawer, worked on my hands, cut her cuticles while I was drying under the UV and stuck the trimmer back in her drawer. They also CHARGED ME 10.00 to take off the no chip manicure, when I went there to get it applied. I have been to many nail salons and they never charge for that. read more

I have been getting manicures at my hair salon for many years but I stopped into Pala when my regular manicurist was unavailable. The shop is beautiful - soothing colors, new and clean. I got the BEST manicure/pedicure EVER. My mani lasted longer than ever before and they have all the latest colors from Essie and OPI. From the receptionist to every manicurist, I felt welcome and valued. Of course, now I have the old loyalty issue so I alternate between Pala and my old place (which is more expensive!). Requested mani and pedi with reflexology. The technician cut my toe with clippers, never did the reflexology, refused to soak my hands to soften cuticles. I was told instead of soaking the hands they treat your hands with gloves; this wasnt offered me at all. My nails still had traces of the old polish around and under the nail. Myself and friend spent 97.00 and upon leaving was told that it is (mandatory) that we leave a tip..... Poor customer service. Bad experience. read more
