I was surprised to see the less positive reviews on this place. We had an awesome experience! It's the oldest bar in FL so the history aspect was cool. The inside of the bar had beautiful crown molding on the ceiling. I will say even tho the bar is big, seating was limited. They must keep it more open for dancing/standing when the music comes on. They had a decent selection of beers on draft. But they didn't have any ciders which wasn't too surprising. I've become spoiled with all the cideries in New England. I got a Big Wave and my hubby got a Guinness. Service was fast and friendly. The music was a vibe - Maroon 5. The patrons were friendly. Def check it out if you're in the area! read more

Place has a ton of history, and is run the way one would think the oldest bar in Florida would be run- no frills, "just the facts mam" order a drink, make conversation and enjoy! The negative reviews kill me. If you want your ass kissed and to be buttered up go to the bar at the Ritz. Leslie was our bartender and she was awesome! Went here because if you're in historic downtown Fernandino Beach you need to go to Florida's oldest bar! There were 2 guys at the and the bartender on a Monday night. It's interesting inside but the server was odd and not very friendly. There is a back room section which was dark and empty and another back room with 2 pool tables. Fun experience. Just to sitting at a 120 year old bar was amazing by Florida standards. When we asked about certain mixed drinks our engaging bartender Johnny explained the difference between a saloon and a bar. Basically a Saloon doesn't have all the ingredients for fancy drinks. Stopped in for just one beer as we were walking around the downtown area in Fernandina. It has loads of neat history, being Florida's oldest bar. Make sure to check out some of the history via google and chat about it with the bartender. Stepping in was really like taking a step back in time (except they have a couple big TVs and had the Jags game on ) The bartender was super attentive, even with a full bar! And the other bar patrons were pretty chatty as well. Just had a vibe of a friendly neighborhood place where you could definitely go alone and have an entire group of new friends by the end of the night. Had the Intuition Ale Works I-10 on draft. Good pour. Decent prices as well on the menu (even tho this was the only thing purchased I did peek thru other items). We just had to stop by here. We read Florida author Tim Dorsey His main character Serge Storms had been here in one of his stories and put this bar on his "tour" map. This place is known as the the oldest bar in Florida and was said to be the last tavern to close during Prohibition. I can't even imagine it as an ice cream parlor... Today, it's still in operation as a bar. We didn't have drinks or food here, but we took advantage of the photo op with the pirate statue out front. LOVED this place! We had so much fun on a Saturday night with folks from all generations. There are two bar areas - the front with a live musician that performed great covers and the back with a DJ and that is more like a nightclub (also great music). The front area has very comfortable seating, fantastic bartender that can make anything, and beautiful, historic ambience. We loved enjoying the front bar and then moving into the back for dancing. It was pretty cool to go in and actually take a look at a real saloon. Even the restrooms seemed old but had character. A cool place to hang. Touristy yet still a dive bar with ties to its long history. The bartenders wear old-fashioned outfits which give the place a cool vibe. They have a palace punch served in souvenir cups that is expensive yet tasty. We wandered in on a Sunday afternoon and found a table, but table space is limited and it seems like it can be crowded at times. There's plenty of floor space though. How can you resist drinking at Florida's oldest operating bar! The Palace Saloon has been open since 1903. Even during prohibition, they figured out a way to stay in business. The bar has some beautiful woodwork and nifty antiques. About 8 seats at the bar and a few tables. Live music every night. Nice selection of beers on tap at reasonable prices. Their specialty is Pirate's Punch - mixtures is liquors and fruit juices. It definitely packs a punch but a bit too sweet. I was totally fascinated (and scared) by the bathrooms. It's this box basically stuck in the corner of the bar with flimsy plexiglass windows barely in place.
