Not Divey in a good way. The place could use a good cleaning. Bartender was nice enough and attentive enough, and the gin and tonic I had was good. Music was terrible, not what you would expect for a supposedly fun beach bar, but I got into town late and nothing else was open. Here's the really messed up part: I got kicked out for allegedly "falling asleep," when I was obviously just hanging out on the steps on my phone and smoking cigarettes outside of a bar, not bothering anybody. WTF. At midnight when the place is open til two. Ran a tab but I guess as a middle aged female I was a threat of some kind? I have Never had this kind of experience before. I have been all over the country and have never been asked to leave a place. It was weird and insulting. I will not spend anymore money there. Ever. read more

So... yeah I guess I am going to go against the previous reviews to this place. I didn't like it at all. I came with a group of people from work, there were four of us and this bar was just across the street from my hotel. My boss wanted to try out this place and I met them here. The drink selection was limited. Place looks like it has seen better days. We all got beers, I got a New Castle and we started our night of fun early. Place was pretty dead... just a handful of locals. My boss looked at me and the group with sorry written all over his face... thinking yeah I picked the wrong bar to go to. One of my coworkers noticed in the back was an area with games. He started playing skee-ball, I noticed there was an old pinball machine from the Ghostbusters movies. Omg! I love pinball! Also I loved Ghostbusters! You know I began to play that game. All the while, the theme song played in my head... "If you need a car, truck or van... who are you going to call... maroone!" No wait! Darn car jingle song that ripped from the classic it goes like this: Ghostbusters... Here's the thing. It's a true dive bar. Complete with friendly locals, good bartenders, inexpensive drinks, pool tables and games. The music from the jukebox was great. If you don't like dive bars stay away and don't post crappy reviews. read more

Like the hammerhead shark it's named after, this beach bar will provide a fiesty atmosphere, a few drinks that bite, and perhaps leave you looking slightly sideways. As you enter, you'll see the bar to your left, multiple billiard tables throughout, and a few games to your far right. There's also an outdoor dining area that I didn't explore much. I stumbled in here with a few friends, both old and new, looking to enjoy a few brews and lose a few rounds of billiards. Mission accomplished. The tables are in good condition, with enough sticks and balls for multiple people to take turns playing (that's what she said). Towards the back you'll see a few more party games, including darts, which is more fun to play when you're plastered since your life is on the line. In between scratching and taking selfies there was buckets of seemingly endless beer to enjoy, mostly the all-american classic, Corona. Some time before we (physically) left there was shots of Jameson and Jager at the bar. Mentally, I had checked out earlier after the fourth bucket of beer. Speaking of which the servers were very attentive and friendly, making sure the well of alcohol did not runneth dry. If you're looking to recover from your hangover, this place is a great option. The Hammerhead Beach Bar is a great choice, it has been open for decades and it sits right across the street from the beach. They are open every single day at 10am--yes, 10 o'clock in the morning and they offer several drink specials. The bar includes a jukebox, pool tables, darts and a few other arcade games. Once you enter & the smoke clears a bit, you can see lots of pool tables w/ games going strong, folks lounging in huddled seating areas or standing along the high tops w drinks flowing, pets wandering & laughter abundant. Someone always seems to be standing at the updated video juke box - arcade looking machine,choosing the next round of tunes - which varies from old country to Metallica playing a cover song (what!?!) - with even the occasional rap thrown into the mix. Seems like they've got your fav tunes covered someway! The traditional bar is old, worn & wonderful! No table service here most nights, elbow your way up & use all means necessary to get the bar keeps attention. Also, drink prices may very depending upon who takes ur order & how witty you may be about it - but hey, it's fun! And cheapest beer beachside so far. Three level decking w speakers for music is attached to the side of the main entrance. Outstanding ocean views from the top deck but it sometimes closes at sundown, A few chairs are strewn about, a wooden table/footstool and standing level ledges to sit your drinks upon. The second level has a few older patio tables and chairs, umbrellas for those scorching afternoons and standing level built in wooden tables, also allows beach view but closer to the roadway - perfect for people watching! Out back, there is a small patio lounging area with weathered patio furniture, slightly cushioned wicker couches, holds 10-12 comfortably. It overlooks the back alleyway & additional parking where you are likely to witness couples - half soused squabbling over this & that, regulars milling about, along w the occasional - way too drunk to walk - patron stumbling about headed to nap it off in his vehicle. Lots of Fun to watch! All in all, it's a very friendly bunch, mostly 35ish and up, with great stories to tell, terrific attitudes & very welcoming to newcomers & visitors. Faith & Sarah are hands down the best bartenders that I have ever had. their outgoing personalities and amazing bodies really puts a good face on this establishment. Awesome Bar in the heart of Fernandina! This place is a must stop when on the island. The staff is great and the beers are a deal. Buckets $8 and hottie bartenders makes this place one of my favorites. Side note: Was there last night and my debit card fell out of my pocket. Just stopped by now to see if they had it - A patron had found it and turned it in! These are great folks that come and work here. I would trust this place any day. IT sucked, the doorman was so out of it he could not work the pool table, the barmaid said she can't make change for the tables. It took ten minutes to get a bucket of beer, same for the following one Bar guy and girl were busy doing nothing to serve people, The music was worst possible DJ other than requests. We packed this place Saturday post wedding with the wedding party and guests. Right at the beach in Fernandina, great after 11pm on a weekend night. Between the locals and hotels nearby, it's jammin. Multi roomed each with pool tables. Great drinks-make sure to get the island punch and hit the jukebox. Great local joint. Go have fun and make sure to put your toes in the sand afterward. read more

BEWARE BARTENDER RIP OFF in this place...especially if you are not a 'local' or 'known' by the bar staff...! We have read posted warnings about fleecing visitors at area bars, so were sort of ready for this. After all, I was the only one in the place wearing a shirt with a collar! There was a POSTED beer special...signs all over the bar. The bartender on duty ( hefty man) charged me a dollar over the posted price. The 'excuse' when challenged was that...'the computer won't let us change over to that price until 8PM..'...as if one could actually believe such a story! They didn't care...just grinned as in take it or leave it pal...! So, seeing as were were there, we 'took' it...and just left no tip....the overcharge having already gone into his pocket...! So, BEWARE....this bar and the Palace Saloon are notorious for this treatment of 'non locals'. read more

I do like the place even though a lady bartender said I was an asshole. LOL, I didn't even know the lady. I asked her for a limearita, and she said they were out. So I then asked her for Strawarita and she said they didn't have any of those either. I then told her that I just left Palace Bar the bartender there said Hammerheads had 2 cases of Strawarita and I then asked her to check for the cans in the back. She never looked in back but did ask a guy behind the bar and then came back and told me they did not have any. I said this was not right and then she said "Well Your Just an Asshole and walked away from me. So I left the bar because I only drink Limearitas or StrawaRitas. I quit drinking beer months ago and will only drink those drinks. From my perspective those cans do not bloat me nor do they have a beer taste which is not popular to my perspective. If a place does not have them I simply leave for a bar that does have them. LOL, Palace and Hammerheads DO charge too much for them anyway because most bars and food places charge between $2.50 - $3.00 a that 8oz refreshing can. read more
