Date of visit: September 7, 2022 Our timing for visiting London was fortuitous when we found out that most of the productions of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child were going to be condensed from two individual, play-length parts to just one streamlined show. As fans of the series, we obviously had to see the play as it was originally intended and the Palace Theatre is one place where you can still do that. The outside of the theatre is impressive and a nice juxtaposition of the history of the theatre (built in 1891) and hard to miss at this interesting intersection that features a variety of shops and restaurants (check out Old Compton Brasserie a couple blocks away). Our seats were in the Stalls--while it sounds like parking for horses, it's actually the British equivalent of the Orchestra section, so closest to the action--and were very good, considering the price. Seats were comfortable and staff were all very friendly both outside and inside the theatre. Really the only reason I can't go 5 stars is this sucker is HOT. I was practically stripping down by the end of the first play as I had beads of sweat gathering on my forehead from how hot the theatre was. If you go in a warmer month, plan accordingly with your clothing to avoid a bad case of swass before the play is over!
The Palace Theatre in London's West End is a beautiful theatre and seeing Harry Potter and the Cursed Child here was incredible! The seats aren't the most comfortable and I felt a little squished but I was also sitting for 6 hours. Friendly staff here and they have snacks and drinks available for purchase.
Came here to see Harry Potter, and the theater is conveniently located and has friendly staff. Seats are pretty comfortable and each one has binoculars for hire for 1 GBP which I thought was funny. Viewpoint was pretty good, even from the very side. I thought the sound system might be a bit botched though since I couldn't really hear the performers very clearly in the beginning - maybe just a one-time thing, or maybe just me? Not sure.
I attended an excellent, enjoyable production of "What the Ladybird Heard" here. The theatre was packed to capacity. The audience was enthusiastic. The theatre building was old and interesting. It is well-kept. The seats were comfortable despite being close. Fun ws had by all.
This may be one of my shortest reviews ever because I'm all about the #KeepTheSecrets and not spoiling this for anyone, with that being said I attended Harry Potter and The Cursed Child Part 1 & 2 and it was by far one of the best productions I have EVER witnessed and I've seen almost every production you can imagine. I was so grateful a friend of mine told me I must get tickets to this when I told him I was going to London. I searched day in and day out for months hoping something would free up for one of the days I was in town and sure enough it did. I purchased Stall T8 when it became available and although a few nights prior I'd sat Balcony in another nearby theatre I thought this view may have been a bit too close, rather than purchasing a seat higher up in the theatre. Nonetheless, I was over the moon the be here and seeing this production. One thing I discovered about West End shows that is drastically different from theatre at home is the ICE CREAM :) Yes, ICE CREAM at Intermission :) A small but very nice option that caught me by surprise, that I happily indulged in. The Palace Theatre is ornate and breathtakingly stunning, and massive! Although the kids next to me mentioned this being one of the smaller theatres but picked specifically for its Hogwarts like appearance in comparison to other theatres that were being considered for this play. If you are lucky enough to score tickets, definitely arrive an hour early - the security line is LONG but moves swiftly. Had the most magical 5 hours in one day of theatre any girl could ever experience!!!
Cannot express how much I love the Harry Potter show here! OMG everything on the stage was so classic and AMAZING! I should not spoil much but the story was a pretty good one on stage. You got laughters and chills, and you do feel the characters. This is Harry Porter, so of course you got to watch it in Britain! Got all the nice charms and the accent. Just, fantastic! Book the tickets early as they sold out fast. Or you can try you luck and look for it a few days beforehand like I did.
We also went to see Spamalot here (for which, see separate review in due course!), so this review covers the theatre. The Palace Theatre is well known for its imposing red brick facade on Charing Cross Road, at Cambridge Circus. A grade II* listed building, it was conceived by Richard D'Oyly Carte in the 1880s to be the home of English Opera, as a counterpoint to his highly successful light opera - the famous repertoire by Gilbert & Sullivan - already established at the Savoy Theatre. The foundation stone was laid in 1888 (just to the right of the main entrance) and the first production was 'Ivanhoe' by Arthur Sullivan. This was a great success and ran for 160 performances, but D'Oyly Carte had nothing planned to follow it. The building was sold a year later, becoming a popular music hall. It was renamed 'The Palace of Musical Varieties', before changing its name again to the Palace Theatre in 1911. The building incorporated many innovations, including the extensive use of concrete to provide fire-proof structures for the staircases and other key elements. Over the years, it has hosted some spectacular successes, including 'No, no Nanette' in the 1920s, and more recently 'Jesus Christ, Superstar', and 'Les Miserables', which ran here for 18 years from 1985 until 2004. The theatre is now owned, alongside 6 others in London, by the Really Useful Group. The interior is typical of the sumptuous style of Victorian theatres: the Stalls Bar is decorated in a faux Louis XIV scheme, with elaborate ceiling mouldings and large decorative mirrors, and the theatre interior is festooned with cherubs and garlands, incorporated in both woodwork and plasterwork. As a performance venue, the main drawbacks are the familiar ones for Victorian London theatres: the stage is relatively narrow (although a lot deeper than many), the seating is rather cramped, and there are stairs everywhere. The theatre seats 1,400 people, in the stalls, grand circle, dress circle, balcony and boxes. Just over 100 seats (including all the boxes) have a restricted view. One aspect which is better than many London venues is that the lavatories are larger than average, doing away with the long waits at the interval! Wheelchairs can be accommodated, however, booked in advance, with a discount for both the wheelchair user and a helper (although the location is at the back of the stalls at seat W27 - not the best view). Access is via a side door with one 3cm step. Alternatively, transfer seating to any seat in the stalls can be arranged, with wheelchairs stored at the back. There are disabled toilet facilities, and a dedicated host for disabled customers. The bar is also very spacious, and interval drinks can be ordered in advance. Bar prices are - of course - more expensive than you'll pay in a pub - £5.50 for a single Gin & tonic, with the House Gin. There's also a shop on the first floor, selling programmes and souvenirs for the relevant show. The venue also hires out its VIP suite and bar as a meeting and small conference venue. The theatre is close to Leicester Square underground station as well as bus routes 14, 19, 24, 29, 38 and 176.
Whoa very cool place to see Harry Potter considering it's an old building. Walked up and dress Circle tickets earlier in the day by chance. Box office is on the left side as you face the front of building. Staff easy to work with and help you get the best tickets. Line up at 6:30pm for 7:30pm show in the right side. There is security to check bags and Wand you in. Note you can't bring outside food in no matter how small. Unless you pocket in your jacket. Dress circle one up From main lobby is where you want to sit. Clear shot of stage. Security will take item, Tag and can be picked up after show. There's 4 floors I'd say. Basement with cloak room, and full bar, main floor , info, and show store, stall floor, dress then balcony. Coat check on all Floors the Loo for both male /female on floors Bar and some seats what else can you Need? Dress circular is the best
I literally cannot imagine a more magical place to enjoy theatre than London's historic Palace Theatre, so it's completely fitting that it's home to Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. I was enchanted from start to finish: queuing up to get inside the theater not once but twice before each part in the freezing cold was worth every moment once inside the doors. Everything is beautiful, gilded, old. I could have sat for hours in the gorgeous bar, all mirrors and shimmering gold molding and perfectly bright lights. The theater itself feels intimate and is nearly as beautiful inside as it is on the outside. As for the show, I've never had a theatre experience like the one I enjoyed during parts 1 and 2 of Cursed Child. Worth every single British pound.
This is wonderful theatre which is also surrounded by many very good restaurants. The show was amazing, everything from the stage, to props to the orchestra and the cast was perfect. The interior of the theatre was extremely clean, well maintained and the show was wonderful. I very much enjoyed this theatre.
Saw the commitments. Enjoyed the show - nice theatre, great location I enjoy the theatre and have been to my fair share of shows and this was no different. We had what would be considered great seats and were on the 3rd row. This was a little too close for my liking so I would suggest somewhere around row 5 if possible. The audience was very involved with singing along to the music, and some seemed as if they had seen the show on many occasions. If in London and the show is still there I say go for it
Secured tickets for Harry Potter & the Cursed Child 18+ months ago - I'm a planner so this gave us something to look forward to & it's always a great excuse to visit London so total win-win, right?! The day finally arrived & we'd scheduled ourselves to attend Parts 1 & 2 on the same day, for a lovely binge-day! This was SO. WORTH. THE. WAIT!!!! Ranks as 1 of my alltime fav plays - the acting, the special effects, the storyline even with its rare slow moments, I was pulled back into the experience after a few min And since I'm "Keeping The Secret", you'll get no spoilers from me......except to advise you to get your tickets & wait the wait - you'll thank me later!! The venue has the routine down pat - people started lining up 1 hour before the doors even opened & you'll want to do this too. Gives you more time to check your coats / bags at £1 each, use the restrooms, look around the venue, & most importantly, visit the souvenir stand We were Orchestra stalls & our seat neighbors were all talking about their 18+ month wait as well so we were in good company w/ people excited to be there. Views were pretty decent & especially for a West End theatre. These venues are smallish and legroom is a hot commodity but at Palace Theatre, we had nice legroom & the sight-lines were okay. We lucked out & had short people in front of us so only had a partially obstructed view which was easily maneuvered around Seats themselves were comfy & the sound was adequate. I'd brought earplugs but ended up taking them out since it wasn't too loud. Well done Palace - we were given the royal treatment & had the most lovely HP-binge day ever!!

Having a distinctive red facade, the Palace Theatre is located on the West End of London (actually city of Westminster). It opened as the Royal English Opera House since January 1891. It is now part of the Nimax Theatres Group, and has been playing 'Harry Potter and the Cursed Child' since 2016. I purchased the two tickets directly through the Nimax box office on-line, and they are well organized. They will send you reminder emails, and then flat out ask you 2 days before, if you are coming. If you affirm, they will send you two emails, each with the digital tickets. These can then be put into your Apple wallet for safe keeping. The two part performance we saw on the last day of January was pretty much full. We sat in the 2nd balcony (out of 3), and the two tickets cost £170. The first part started at 2 pm, ending at 4:44, with a 20 minute intermission. The second part started at 7:00, ending at 9:33 with a 20 minute intermission. In terms of seating, there are definitely bad seats in this theater, and a lot depends on if the seat in front of you is occupied. Nobody was doing anything wrong, but I couldn't see the front left part of the stage and my wife next to me couldn't see the front of the stage. This makes sense since we are looking down and the various ticket prices reflect that. As for the show itself, it was very good. The story itself is excellent, on par with the other books in the series. Many of the favorite characters from the books make big appearances here, and the actors definitely played them like you remember them in the movies. There was also quite a bit of illusions and disappearing acts as part of the show...and they used the concept of Polyjuice and Time travel quite well. It's a lot easier to show in the movies, but they attempted (and succeeded) in doing something similar in the theater. Really well done. Any person having any wanting of continuing the Harry Potter saga, would really enjoy this. read more

A once-in-a-lifetime play! However, do yourself a favor and attend during cooler months. This theatre can become an oven, and there is no A/C! The venue The Palace Theatre in London's West End is a beautiful venue! This review's lower rating is due to the lack of A/C and the seats. The seats are tiny and uncomfortable. I ended up leaving the play with knee pain. They should have better seating arrangements for a play that takes more than 5 hours. Also, please turn on the A/C! It is impossible to enjoy anything when you are sweating non-stop in your seat for 5+ hours. The service The service was excellent! The staff was kind and accommodating. They offer snacks, ice cream, and some beverages. The play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is truly a masterpiece. The special effects are not just mindblowing, they are out of this world! It's one of the best plays I have ever seen. read more

Beautiful building. I did not watch a show but stopped by to look at the architecture. I wish they had Harry Potter showing when I came, I would have totally watched it. The theatre is a boring brown and square but has amazing detail. I really liked the castle looking front. Worth a visit to admire the theater's architecture. read more

Singing in the Rain was simply fabulous, and the Palace Theatre was perfect stage for this musical. Our seats were J4&5 and we were able to see the performance perfectly. I also loved the fact that balcony section offers its own souvenir stand, not to mention, a bar for your drink order during intermission, plus bathroom facilities on the same floor!!! Can you imagine, as a woman, being able to do all this and actually end up having so much time left to really enjoy a drink before curtain call for second half?! Seriously, lines to the ladies' is always a problem, but not at the Palace Theatre. Super convenient. Would go back here anytime. http://www.palacetheatrelondon.org/seating/ read more

#Yelp #Yelp365 27 - A good friend resides in London and had experienced this show earlier. While passing the show, I had a clue this was on the agenda for later in the week. The show was a good adaptation of the movie, with some very entertaining scenes, especially the saggy bar patron and her g - string. The bus opening and closing, LED lights being painted, was a very cool display. When one things of the movie, one must think about shoes, and this show lets the shoe shine it all of it's glory. The theatre was convenient with many food options available pre and post show. Transit was also very close to the show. read more

Great theatre - AMAZING show - Priscilla Queen of the Desert! Recommend sitting at the front and center of the first balcony level - sorry, don't have the official name of the seating area! The theatre gets very toasty warm!! Friends have been here in the summer and the rumor is there isn't any A/C. read more

You can't detract from the quality of the productions here, but this review is for the theatre. And that quality is extremely suspect. I paid £50 for the £70 from Tkts booth for stalls seats - being dragged along to Priscilla with my wife & daughter - and I was appalled by the total lack of space for a person of reasonably average height. Vision was OK, acoustics were fine, but no way could the experience be described as good. Plus, I know I should be inured to West End Theatre drinks prices by now, but really! The show itself was as expected, a throughly professionally staged production of a nonentity of a musical. Nothing to hate, lots to enjoy, but my life would not have been measurably poorer had I not seen it - my pocket certainly would have been richer. read more

I love London theatres and the Palace is another beautifully grand stage. I went to see Harry Potter Part 1 and 2. From walking up to the theatre it is a grand building on Cambridge circus. Being the big event Harry Potter is there was a lot of security screening but this was very efficient and the wait was not long. Great at entry by a wide range of merchandice available (very tempting) and the staff mange the queues well and handed out catalogs to decided what you want while waiting. I was seated in the stalls. There were two candy bars separate from the brightly lit stalls bar. Great cocktail menu but limited seating for a waiting area. The theatre itself is magnificent! Seating is the only negative, very tight seats, I was should to shoulder with my neighbours and I'm glad I don't have long legs like the rest of my family as my knee were touching the seat in front of me. Staff were very friendly and added to the experience as repeat customer with the show being a two parter. Stage door queue was also manage well with most of the cast coming out to greet the us to take photos and autographs. read more

I saw Harry Potter here Thursday and Friday night. The whole operation was smooth from the beginning. The checking into the theatre process was very easy and the staff was kind showing us our seats and answering our many questions. The theatre was transformed to the wizarding world of Harry Potter for an amazing magic experience. Fantastic! read more

I visited the Palace theatre to see Harry Potter and the Cursed Child back in October. The architectural details of the theatre, both inside and outside, are just amazing. I'm a huge architecture fan and the building was just lovely to stare at. The inside was just as nice. Our seats were on the 3rd floor and our view was decent for the price. However, the bathrooms were very small and with as many people as the theatre holds, the lines were outrageous. They came outside and curled down the stairs! It was insane. Everyone we encountered who worked there were very nice and informative. Would love to come back here for another play in the future. read more

Beautiful theater located right in the heart of Soho! I came here to see Harry Potter and the Cursed Child and it was nothing short of amazing! The interior and exterior is gorgeous, really looks like something out of Hogwarts! To top it all off, the staff are amazing, extremely polite and accommodating. The night we went, they ran out of #keepthesecrets pins and a staff member gave me one that they had in their pocket because he heard it was my birthday! They really go above and beyond to make everyone's theater experience memorable and enjoyable! read more

What a wonderful experience! I got lucky with finding an amazing seat for both parts of Harry Potter and the cursed child! My seat was in the stalls (orchestra) and I was seated in seat J22 which was dead center and perfect view of the entire theater! I want to honor the show by keeping the secrets (that's the hashtag they ask you to post so not to ruin surprises for other viewers) #keepthesecrets so I'll just say if you're a HP fan, you must see BOTH parts!!!! Don't go if you can't see them both at some point. The theater is well managed and the staff are all very friendly and helpful. Sad that they had scaffolding in front of the beautiful building and display. Plenty of space to move around in the theater and the bathroom que moves fast thanks to the staff attendant helping usher ladies in and out. Being on the rather y'all side, my legs felt jammed into the space but the seats were comfortable non the less. The building is beautiful inside and out and the show left me speechless! read more
