I showed up for a scheduled visit to have blood drawn for lab work required by my cardiologist when I was told it was cancelled because I wasn't scheduled for a "wellness" visit. The lab work visit was cancelled 5 days prior. No phone call or letter to advise me of the situation. Is this the manner one would expect of a primary care physician who is concerned for your health? Dropping a scheduled visit because you weren't seeing him to review what he already knows about your health from the past 33 years. It appears the Derby Family Medcenter is more focused on their financial bottom line with unnecessary visits rather than the health of their patients.

You see my husband of 42 years had just passed and this was the first time in my life that I didn't have him by my side. When I woke in recovery I was hysterical. Yelling for my husband and causing everyone to get very upset. Fernando Salgado MD was there by my side talking to me and trying to convince me that my husband was not there. I know I upset him and all the nurses as I see tears in their eyes when I was finally aware of the situation and work up enough to understand. The other…read morestaff were descent and just felt a general discord from staff as if they were too busy to deal with me and wanted me out all though they weren't busy at all. I had just got out of urgent care before going there and had low oxygen saturation. They never took chest X-rays despite this. The guy in grey scrubs was the best one there. They sent me out with prescriptions yet never asked where to call them into. I felt as if they were blaming everything on my smoking and cared less because of it. I agreed to quitting smoking and they never offered any type of help or information on successfully quitting. The doctor wasn't terrible yet not thorough enough. The worst part was that blond nurse with acne as she was terribly unpleasant and when I asked if I was gonna be able to sleep through the night now she said " we don't prescribe sleep meds for this type of thing." I never asked nor wanted sleep meds. I just didn't want to wake up every hour coughing and short of breath. They sent me out and on the way to the car I was wheezing again but chose not to go back in as I felt rushed out and not taken seriously as if they thought I was drug seeking. Thank you to the guy who gave me the treatment but the rest lacked. I ended up at Wesley a few hours later with more prescriptions and feel better with breathing treatments for at home, antibiotics, follow up care instructions, bedside manner without drug seeking accusations, chest drays and being told I have emphysema. I'm quitting smoking for good now and am grateful to Wesley for thorough and kind treatment. Will not recommend or go back to rock regional. There was an overall lack of care and bed side manner.

Staff is absolutely great, clean and nice environment, and you're in and out in no time. They truly care and treat you with such respect and care. They also have an urgent care that I just recently found out about as well, which I personally find as a perk for this medical center. I also like to do a shout out to one of the best doctors there Koleen Guete. She is absolutely amazing! So professional, compassionate, and makes sure you are okay. I've never had a doctor that does so much to help you and make sure you're healthy, and make sure medical diagnosis is accurate. She truly cares. Edit: I also want to add this because I saw a person post that stated Koleen discriminates. I can tell you she does not! I'm a gay man myself and have never experienced anything to make me think that. She even offered to do prescription for my prep that I get through Mister, but declined cause I already have a prescription going with Mistr.com

They gave her attitude and said there was nothing they could do and made her go to Urgent Care later that night. At urgent care , the doctors were incredibly rude and incredibly unhelpful. They made it glaringly obvious that you are a number that they're trying to clear and move to the next one. The doctor consistently cut off my wife every time she was trying to speak about what happened to her. When she did get her chance to speak, the doctor made numerous rude and inappropriate comments. There are quite a few urgent cares around the area. Do not waste your time coming to this one. Unquestionably the most unprofessional and most rude staff I've ever experienced in my life. I ended up bawling, not from the exam itself, but because she made me feel like I was stupid because I was too nervous to complete the exam. She actually said, quote unquote "I don't know why you're making this so difficult, no one's ever complained or had problems before." She ended up referring me to another doctor because she said 'I made the whole procedure miserable for me AND her.' I left the office crying both times I went to see her, and the second time she threw a hissy fit so loud in her office that the whole staff had overheard. I was so mortified I canceled all appointments in that facility. I'm now absolutely terrified over my yearly exams that I'm afraid to go to any doctor. I felt like I was being judged instead of treated, and she was so cruel to me that I felt like there was something wrong with me just because I had so much trouble during my exam. This woman made me feel embarrassed, ashamed, humiliated, stupid and worthless. No one should have to feel like that, and I hope this helps other young women steer clear of her.

I visited the Derby ER on February 20, 2025, with persistent and worsening stomach pain. It wasn't…read moreunbearable but definitely uncomfortable. From the moment I arrived, every single person, receptionist, nurse, doctor, radiology tech, and transport, treated me with incredible kindness and respect. They made me feel comfortable, took my concerns seriously, and never once dismissed my pain. Special thanks to Gladys, Lacy, Dr. Paxon, and Haley, my care team that day. You were compassionate, thorough, and incredibly professional. You ran every test necessary and ultimately diagnosed me with acute appendicitis, quickly arranging for me to be transferred to Wesley for surgery. If I missed someone that was involved that day, I appreciate you as well! What I didn't realize at the time was just how life-saving that visit would be. During my appendectomy, a tiny cancerous tumor was found in my appendix, so small it never would've shown up on imaging. Because I'm over 40 (and appendicitis is less common at my age), that finding led my doctors to do further screenings. They found and removed a precancerous polyp, and I later had another preventative surgery for something else -- but never would've been addressed if it wasn't for my care on February 20, 2025. The proactive, attentive care I received at Derby ER set everything in motion. You very likely saved my life. I will forever be grateful for you. She was so sweet , she was funny and she did really good taking care of my husbands hand :) Now for the start of our visit , we get there with our son around midnight I believe . The security guard was back there and brought the Rn Kimberly to help check us in . She got my husband checked in , we waited about 10 minutes then she came and grabbed us . Well , I started to get up and she told me to wait in the waiting room while they got my husband cleaned up , I said okay . 40 MINUTES GO BY without a word from anyone !!! I go to the security guard and asked if he could let me back there with my husband , he opened the door for me and told me which room he was in . I thank him and here comes Kimberly saying 'What're you doing ? WE are getting ready to do the procedure you can't be back there' he apologized to her and I asked her why I wasn't allowed to be in the room with him ? She said the room was too small . (Bliss your heart Dr.Penzler !!!) She chimes in and says that I can go in there with him . I thank her and they help me find his room . I'm finally in the room with him , and the dr comes in and starts washing and cleaning his hand . Not once did Kimberly help with the procedure after she had JUST told me 'WE are getting ready to do the procedure' . 1. if I would've never asked the security guard to let me in , nobody would've came and grabbed me while me , my husband and our child were up there for 2 hours !!! 2. when Kimberly was helping us get discharged she told my husband and I that when my husband told her when checking in he cut his finger to the bone , Kimberly couldn't handle it ?! Leading into this when I finally got into the room , me and my husband were catching up on what's been going on . He told me that the Rn Kim came in , was supposed to clean his finger before the procedure and she told him to do it himself !! Girl you're the nurse you're supposed to do it ! The Dr comes in and asks him if the nurse got his finger washed up and of course he told her no , that Kim had said to do it himself . 3. I'm not for sure at what point this was in me waiting in the lobby with my child , I'd say about 20-30 minutes . Catching up with my husband , he told me that he had told someone to grab me and our son , and nobody did !! It was an extremely irritating night and poor service . Again though , Dr.Penzler was amazing !
