Just returned home from a fantastic stay at Palapas Ventana with our family. The property is lovely, rustic but beautifully maintained. Our casita was perfect for our family of 4. Loved the big porch with the rocking chairs and hammock. The housekeepers did a wonderful job of tidying up each morning. Our bed was so comfortable, too. Our room had everything we could need: filtered drinking water, shampoo and body wash, reading lights at every bed, and beach towels. We shared in some unforgettable experiences: snorkeling with puffer fish, boating alongside gray whales, and digging for shark teeth. The staff were always friendly and accommodating. The food was unbeatable. Fresh yellow tail, fluffy pancakes, and fajitas. I highly recommend Palapas Ventana for anyone who likes adventure and is looking to experience the local culture. The good: We were looking for a no wind day activity at the last minute. I called around 3pm for a next day booking for Scuba Diving. The office person said she would call me back to check to see if they could accommodate. Within the hour she called back and advised us there was room, we just needed to come by the office and take care of payment. We were stoked and happy to come down and pay. While I was there I asked her how many dives, she said she didn't know, but that was okay, I was just assuming it was the standard 2 dives. She advised us that it included lunch and I told her not to worry about me because I am dairy and gluten-free, she said she would let the kitchen know and that they could probably accommodate. I wasn't really concerned about lunch because I usually carry my own food. The next day we met with our guide and boat captain, both were super nice. The guide was knowledgeable and friendly. We headed around the lighthouse, but visibility was poor so they took us across to the island where we dived with the sea lions and then we moved to the kiters beach on the island where we dived in shallow water. For the most part, we didn't really need to scuba, snorkeling would have been just as good. There wasn't really any benefit as far as seeing sea life. After both dives they gave us lunch on the way back, much to my surprise, they actually provided me a lunch that was both dairy and gluten-free, I was pretty impressed. The not so good: The wetsuits had holes and smelled really bad. I am not sure they had been cleaned. The air in the tanks smelled and tasted horrible. I don't know if it was mold or rust, but it was really bad. The worst part of the trip is that the guide allowed two people on our trip to freely smoke cigarettes non-stop on the boat ride and they were sitting upwind of everyone, ugh!!!! Tip: If you decide to dive with this company, please tip your guide, they are not paid in wages and only live off of the tips!!! read more

I stayed here for 4 days for my cousins wedding. All the staff were super friendly and made me feel at home. They are proactive with all the activities you can do here. From swimming with whale sharks, to kite surfing, to fishing. The area is beautiful with a giant island just off shore. This place is the best of Baja, and the best of Mexico. I'm coming back for sure! Great drinks and tequila. Great layout. Great values. Great people! read more

The view here is to die for! It's so beautiful! The eggs Benedict was delicious too! First time I have ever had it with beans before! It's not too windy in the morning, but it gets windier throughout the day. If you are a kite boarder you won't be here then anyway! I loved the palapas here, they were beautifully woven. The pool and the cactus were also quite picturesque! It's also a great price! read more

Palapas is maybe the most overlooked restaurant in the area! Their food is top notch. I've been back there or four times and have not been disappointed once. Their fish dishes are wonderfully fresh with vegetables cooked perfectly to accompany the fish. They always add a well put together salad as part of the meal. The best part of all this is the check! A nice surprise to get this quality of food at a price that beats many of the other restaurants in town. The outside seating offers an unbeatable view. Bring a warm coat if you're eating late because it cools off when the sun goes down. The only downside which I actually see as an upside is a short walk from the parking lot to the restaurant. But I enjoy it. Highly recommend this place. read more

Had a great late lunch at Palapas Ventanas today. I went fishing with the club(also a great experience) and was pleased when the restaurant offered to make sushi out of my catch. The food and service was great. Defiantly coming back. read more

I wanted to give 4 1/2 (as 5 for any resort is rare) but couldn't figure it out on the app. Anyway, I dove with them through a friend who has a place locally back in May. Three divers, great prices, great trip! Garth, our dive master, was beyond amazing. Very cool South African bloke, with a Game of Thrones look and an oh so laid back demeanor (see Frank Zappa)! Most importantly, not excitable, helpful and so confident in the water. Our boat drivers name escapes me but he was also great. The diving was much better and varietal than I'd expected. Although we couldn't do one dive due to conditions, even after a long haul in a Panga made for the Sea of Cortez, they both found us a nice alternative. Have I mentioned that Garth was amazing? So experienced, with great stories from his background and a constant smile. As a side note, we are all fairly novice divers but very seasoned travelers. For those of you looking for luxury or pampering, this is not your place. You should actually avoid Ventana as a whole and head straight to Cabo. For those looking for a real taste of Mexico, as it was 30 or more years ago, get there. I will be back this winter! read more

This is a review of the scuba diving services. The people were kind and well-intentioned, but the gear included was old and out-of-date. My wetsuit had a large hole in the back, scuba booties were torn, multiple fins I tried on were broken. The selection of masks was also unacceptable, and my mask isn't fit and flooded throughout the dives. When I pointed out some of these issues, the gear was returned to the shelves rather than discarded. More importantly, two of the four regulators on our boat had serious malfunctions visibly identifiable. I've done close to 100 dives, and this is the least safe I've felt due to poor equipment. Be very careful, check ALL your gear before departure, and make sure there is enough weight on the boat if you're going to take the risk of going with this outfitter. read more

The food here is great! The staff are always friendly helpful and happy! They speak English too! If there is wind you can kite or windsurf right from their beach, if there is no wind you can choose from the many other activities: surfing, spear fishing, paddle boarding, snorkeling, SCUBA diving, kayaking, sailing, fishing, massage, cooking lessons, beering at the bar, patio or beach. Absolutely incredible view of the bay, Isla Cerralvo, and the occasional kite surfer out by the restaurant. Came here for lunch yesterday to try out more local spots and had the battered and fried shrimp tacos. Fell in love with them as they were so simple yet so delicious!!!
