This is not like all the CrossFit hype and gimmicky gyms out there, this is pure physical improvement, strength and preparation. The group training classes are energetic and can be very challenging if you push yourself, but the beauty of the workout is that you can take any of the exercises at your own pace. I loved that people of all physical levels can be in the same class and really get a great workout. Additionally, their Krav Maga self-defense offering is the best upstate NY has to offer. Marc D. is a former Army Ranger and has been training law enforcement, athletes and people of all ages for a very long time. He truly is an expert in his craft, not to mention quite a funny, personable guy. Their active shooter training program over the summer with the Saratoga County Sherrif's department was incredibly informative and I obtained many helpful tips that I can quickly apply in a life-or-death situation. If you want to transform your body, as well as, learn the best self-defense training out there (i.e. Krav Maga), definitely check out K2Strong. Russ and Marc are genuine local businessmen who provide a great service and are building a quality community. It's a breath of fresh air from the Planet Fitness and Crunch gyms that are so ubiquitous upstate NY.

Krav Maga is not a "pretty" martial art...it's practical. It's an Israeli system that focuses on street fighting skills and realistic, life-threatening situations (which you certainly hope to never be in). They also have fitness classes that focus less on the self defense and more on getting in shape. Either way, if you're a regular here, you'll get in shape. There are plenty of classes to choose from so any schedule can be accommodated.

Being a really aggressive, type A personality, I have felt the urge to maul someone at least once a…read moreday since I was 4. Since middle school until the end of college I tried lifting weights, running competitively, dancing, cycling, hiking, every kind of yoga available in the valley (and that's a lot of yoga!), and a myriad of other group exercise classes including spinning, boot camps, kickboxing, step aerobics, and interval training, (sometimes attending 2-3 different classes per day), in attempt to take my edge off and feel normal. The result was: I got in moderately good shape, had a nice toned, lean body, learned about a lot of different facilities in the area, and even learned new moves and techniques that served me well, and still do from time to time. However, I was never able to use any of these outlets to push myself to the extent that I wanted to. I often became bored, and uninterested. I would leave my workouts feeling winded and sweaty, but unfulfilled, irritated, and still bubbling over with a fiery type of energy that made me want to crawl out of my skin. I would spend the rest of the day picking fights with everyone around me, and sometimes even throwing inanimate objects around my house. It wasn't until I joined PVCF, and started attending at least 3-4 workouts a week that this behaviour subsided. Now, not only are there less broken things, and cops showing up at my house, but I am stronger, leaner, and more nimble than I have ever been. I am learning new things, and improving a little more each day. Just yesterday, I was finally able to coordinate my feet well enough to climb a rope. A few weeks before that, something else clicked, and I got a little better at double-unders. For most, attending first WODs at PVCF is a new social situation where you don't know anyone, most of the moves and techniques are completely new to you, very challenging, and you have to perform in front of a room of beautiful, healthy strangers. Fortunately, self-confidence and humility you didn't even know you had will emerge from this experience, and make you a better person. Additionally, having to say "hi" to people you don't know on a daily basis, and learning their names will expand your social skills and community network. Learning where all of the equipment is, how to use it, how to efficiently set it up, and put it back will increase your assertiveness (as you have to ask those around you for tips and info, etc.) Going through the sometimes painstaking process of learning your numbers (the amount of weight you're lifting) keeping track of all of this and writing it down, knowing your reps, is all part of an empowering self indulgent experience that will be unlike any other part of your life. This is where you gain drive, motivation, and competitiveness that you might not have found within yourself before. As you can see, it's really a holistic fitness experience that rivals any other I've experienced here in the five college area. Not to mention there's convenient parking, gorgeous bathrooms and showers, plenty of equipment, room to put your stuff, and access to nutritional support. The management is constantly tailoring the schedule to fit members needs, and rearranging things to improve the space. Also, there are crazy stereotypes running around out there that crossfitters and crossfit trainers are just a bunch of jocks who think that crossfit is the be all end all of the world. This isn't true. Crossfitters are a diverse group of people including kids, tweens, artists, veterans, first responders, colleges students, and people of all shapes and sizes, and all fitness levels. If you are looking for a gym, definitely give it a try before automatically going up the street to BigBox Globo-Fitness, and bring a friend!

Crossfit is many things. It's technical definition is "constantly varied, if not randomized, functional movements performed at high intensity." When I'm asked what crossfit is, I usually tell people it's a mixture of sprint work, gymnastics, and weightlifting. More than that though, it's a community. It's a group of people who are consciously saying no to plodding away on a treadmill at some globo-gym, never seeing the results they so desire. It's about finding within yourself the ability to do hard things and to relish in overcoming obstacles. It's a great gym, full of good, motivated, and supportive people.

I did their Launch Program which was an awesome jump start to getting into the classes. I have had trouble in the past sticking to a workout routine, as I'm sure a lot of people do. That has not been the case since I started going to CRL, its addicting. The coaches and people are amazing. Everyone is super welcoming and no matter if you are in great shape or just starting out the workouts are manageable/challenging, its really all about how much YOU want to push yourself. Along with crossfit they also offer spartan, olympic weightlifting, and mobility classes which are just as awesome. The coaches are all very knowledgable and want to help you be the best you can be. You can tell they love what they do. Melissa and Sam started something great here. I cannot say enough good things about this place!

I can NO longer go to a gym after being here…read more What can you get from the People at Tyler English Fitness: 1.) Train within a group of people of various ages, occupations and gender. 2.) Multiple trainers for each session to ensure you are working out to your personal best. 3.) Pushing individuals to their extreme. 4.) Teaching you how to train with your body, dumbells and resistance bands. 5.) Making you conduct every workout with High Intensity Interval Training. and what makes it the best and better than cross fit and any other boot camp? *drum rolls with high hat crash* 6.) They give you a nutrition seminar every month! Showing you what to eat, when to eat it and how much to eat of it! Yeah that's right, Tyler English Fitness! The owner himself got tired of the mundane and overestimated Gym culture that he decided to use not only his academic skill but his profession.........Natural body building! He's learned the science of nutrition, proper work outs and building a body. He has a degree in sports medicine and exercise science, a National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) performamce enhancement specialist, World National Body Building Federation competitor and winner on many occasions, Certified Personal Trainer and Youth Conditioning Specialist. This guy is REAL DEAL. Because of him I managed to have so much energy, with the "look good naked" body. I ate very nutritiously by sticking to his diet plan, and worked through his intense sessions. Note: about 600 to 1,000 calories get burned from your body doing this class. I went from an overweight into almost obese 225 pounds to a lean and ripped 190 pounds. I was an athlete in high school. I played Football, ran Indoor and Outdoor track. But at around 30 years of age, I had a better body with awesome athleticism (increased agility, stamina, endurance, power, etc.) now than when I was 16 years old. I have progression pix posted up pn here. You can go to their website: www. ConnecficutFitnessBootCamps . Com. Joe C. (Yelp Elite '12) is a frequent Boot Camper and he is the 8th picture in the testimonial section. That's proof The last reviewer, Joe C. Is the walking billboard for this place. He lost 75 pounds! I was impressed to see his progression over a year of hard work! Back in the day this place started with house moms and female professionals over the age of 40. Now many people have caught on to how awesome this place is. You can now see people of all ages, sexes, etc. all here for one thing........to stay healthy! I can never go back to the gym. I'm too lazy. I have no motivation unless someone who knows their stuff and that's Tyler English and his elite staff! They teach you proper form, they understand your potential and teach you how to eat clean. Many of us Americans are misinformed about proper nutrition. Tyler English Fitness enlightens all. He also owns Athletic Revolution, a training camp for children 5 years old to adolescents.

They offer group, semi-private, private classes. Custom-tailored workouts for less than a personal trainer. They are way more knowledgeable than anyone you'll get at Big Lie/Cry or anything like that, and you grow to become friends with them! My trainer and I are always doing things outside of the gym, and we constantly do charity workout events to raise money for various causes. They offer a massage therapist, nutritionist, and training seminars. Also, they have Athletic Revolution which helps kids because it's a place to go after school, and gives them custom workouts that work on improving their abilities in sports or health in general. Best program, and when people want ideas to open their own gyms, they come here, then open a lesser version! (Can you tell I'm bias?)

Updated 6/24/2014 After being there since March, I stick by my 5 star review. Brandon Peterson, Chase Smith, Justin Homsey, Danielle Jalbert, etc. (many more) make this gym the toughest -- yet most welcoming gym I've ever belonged to in my life. I've taught classes for years (World's Gym, Gold's, Latitudes, etc.) and while those are great gyms, this gym hands me my butt every time I go. They work with you every step of the way and will take time out to give you individual attention.

I had allowed myself to slowly and methodically self destruct. Goals became punch lines or fluffy wish lists. I became sad, incredibly sad, I isolated myself from friends and family. I drank and ate everything and anything I wanted without a thought, and I piled on over 130lbs of debilitating fat. At times I felt worthless and hopeless. I walked into the doors of Crossfit free anxious and desperate, but choosing to walk through those doors has led to a series of unexpected and amazing changes. Brandon Peterson, Justin Homsey and the rest of the coaching staff welcomed me into the box with open arms. On my first day, I was literally greeted by everyone in the box. I enrolled into the on-ramp program in order to ease my transition from couch potato expert to CrossFit newbie. The on ramp program was fantastic. The coaches led small group classes three times a week to other beginners to go over the basic movements, and most importantly they were able to set their expectations of CFF athletes. After my two week on-ramp, I dove into the classes and I haven't looked back. Everyday is programmed and carefully planned. If there is a movement you can't do yet there is always a scalable option that will help you develop the ability to do more. CFF is so much more than a gym. This is a family of people with common goals and a common ethos. This is a community that celebrates first place finishers and cheers on the last place finisher with rivaled enthusiasm. This is a community that understands health, fitness, and athletesism are the keys to longevety, and that they can only be attained through hard work and dedication. This is a community that struggles shoulder to shoulder with the aim of simply being better than yesterday. Six months in, I have lost a total of 95lbs. I have rediscovered my enthusiasm for life, and I am developing long and short term goals (and reaching them!!). This is not because I've chosen to do a fad diet, or 7minute ab program, it's because I took a chance, walked in the door, and followed the programming set forth by Brandon, Justin, and the coaches at Crossfit Free. I am incredibly grateful for this community and for our amazing coaches.
