Such a beautiful spot to view the Hudson River, and the NY skyline . My dad and I would visit here frequently, before he passed. It's such a beautiful spot that I continued on the tradition. You can go on a hike, relax looking at the river, or sit down and enjoy a meal or drink at the picnic tables. There is a pavilion that offers food and restrooms. I highly recommend.

Whether you're visiting New Jersey or a local, the State Line Lookout is a must see. It's the highest point on the Palisades Cliffs (about 520 feet elevation). It offers scenic views of the Hudson River, the cliffs, the Tappan Zee Bridge, and New York towns (White Plains, Tarrytown, etc.) across the river. The views are absolutely breathtaking with plenty of opportunities for photos. The cliffs are STEEP, so be careful... the warning signs are there for a reason. The walkways are fairly clean and dog friendly. There are different hiking trails both north and south of the cliffs. There are trails for both beginners and intermediate/advanced hikers. Most of the hikes will take over 2+ hours. I also saw a few people bird watching. Fun fact: The peregrine falcon is the world's fastest bird with a diving speed of more than 200 miles per hour, and if you're lucky you can catch one diving down the cliffs! The lookout is easily accessible by driving on 9W. There is ample parking in a lot with a few port-a-potties available. There's also a cafe near the parking lot which is perfect for those who need to replenish before or after a long hike. I would definitely come back this year to try one of their hiking trails.

This was my new home for the summer as I discovered and conquered new heights and new lows in this park. I climbed up and down and all around on numerous occasions. Discovered lots of hidden treasures as my eyes and legs were worked out in a new way. It is well kept, and clean for the most part as this park is enjoyed by all. Parking is not free, and there is a parking meter where you pay for your allotted time spent. Not expensive, and well worth it.

On bright sunny days this park is absolutely gorgeous, with views expanding all the way to GWB, uptown NYC. Huge hiking trail covered with trees. Huge parking lot, metered during peak season.

This is a view of the Hudson River high top the Palisades at the state line Lookout cargo ships go up and down the river delivering goods.

One of the finest lookouts in the northeast area. Vast views of the Hudson River north and south. There's migratory bird counts that go on and many other events. It is a fabulous place to hike through beautiful untouched forest. There's a little café you can get some nice snacks and food and brochures about the area, highly recommend recommended.

Stopping in New York with my van is not an option but I can absolutely stop here at the New Jersey border and look at it. And especially so since I was across the river looking back at here from the Met Cloisters (part of the Metropolitan Museum of Art) https://www.yelp.com/biz/the-met-cloisters-new-york?hrid=TY4TCSmu-9noRxep0c6urQ almost exactly one year ago. The view from this park is amazing. The steep cliffs rise almost perfectly vertically from the Hudson River. The cliffs are as much as 540 feet high and there are some pretty amazing hiking opportunities here which I was not in shape to try this afternoon. Though I might well return to try the Giant Stairs or the Rock Scramble. Even if you're not hiking, you can absolutely appreciate the view. Some parts of not step free but other parts are and you can look out over the river. If you look closely, you might spot a train heading north on the New York side through Hastings-on-Hudson. Do take the cliff warnings seriously. Please don't stand on the ledges! [Review 18320 overall - 153 in New Jersey - 1842 of 2022.]

This is a great area of the park. There's a lookout and binoculars you can use for a view of the city. There's free parking, bathrooms, picnic tables and a few trails. I followed the green marked path south past a water fall to the shoreline trail where the view of the Hudson and city is beautiful. The giant stairs were fun to climb but this is a very difficult terrain and especially dangerous in the rain. The trail passed a few old structures and the Women's Federation Monument. There is easier trails that you can bike or walk your dog as well.

I stopped here on whim the day after Christmas on the way back from downstate to The Capital District. I've passed this area on the way home many times but never stopped. The park is amazing with multiple trails, views of the Hudson River. The park has 30 miles of hiking and ski trails, a boat launching ramp, a scenic riverside drive, a cliff-top parkway and overlooks, riverfront picnic areas and playgrounds, a nature sanctuary, two boat basins, and historic sites. There is also a store and small restaurant. I was able to get a cup of coffee and take a walk and see all of the beautiful views,

Overlooking spectacular views of the Hudson and NYC even before heading into the trails. My group opted for the Long Path Trail that includes an extremely hard rock climb. Among us were several kids with the youngest being only 5 years old, they made it look so easy. In the end we finished in about 4 hours. There were many breathtaking views along the way, snap pictures at your own risk making sure not to drop it in between boulder sized rocks! Finished the trail climbing up many flights of stairs back to the parking area.

I've been to State Line Lookout multiple times to stop and rest during long motorcycle rides and I've hiked to the Women's Federation Monument a couple times. The monument itself is a castle which is kind of cool but you can only go on top, not inside; cool nonetheless. It's a fairly short hike and not very difficult. Yesterday I hiked the Giant Stairs Trail for the first time. I rode my motorcycle to State Line Lookout and this proved to be a pretty dumb idea. I was reluctant to leave my gear on my bike lest i become a victim of theft. So, off I went hiking with an extra 10 pounds in my backpack. At first I didn't notice it but around 2.5 hours in my right leg started cramping. The fact that I went on an empty stomach (no food for ~20 hrs) definitely didn't help either. I grossly underestimated this trail and paid the price. Don't be foolish, make sure you eat/drink beforehand and definitely bring some water to stay hydrated along the way. If you don't feel up for a more difficult hike the Peanut Leap Trail is maybe half the length and a lot easier. The day I went the Peanut Leap Cascades was pretty dry with just a trickle of water coming down. It probably looks much nicer the day after some heavy rain. Proper footwear is strongly recommended, especially if you choose to trek the Giant Stairs. Sneakers are passable, but there are potentially jagged rocks and they can get slippery. There are some steep descents and ascents so probably not the best place to take young kids. State Line Lookout does have a cafe right next to the parking area but I've never been inside. I'm not sure if there is a bathroom inside, but there are porta potties outside. There are no parking fees and there are several trails of varying difficulty. Definitely a worthwhile visit to take in nature.

Great view and simple hiking trail. Mostly flat walking. The view is wonderful. People also are here taking pictures of eagles (?). Service station sells hot food and drinks. Bathroom available. A place for family afternoon fun!

I had a great time hiking with my family! It's dog friendly and there's 2 trails- easy and hard one. The views are magnificent and there's a waterfall at the end!

If you want to go on a challenging hiking trail then the Shore Trail at Palisades is for you. I loved it! Even in a rainy day, the view that you worked so hard for is gorgeous. At the shoreline lookout parking area there is a cafe and multiple porta potties. Do be warned, poison ivy is everywhere and crosses trails. The shore line trail traverses from the cliffs, down to the shore, across multiple huge boulder fields and then back up to the cliffs. I would grade this trail as VERY DIFFICULT to extreme during inclement weather. Newbies should be warned that this is a high risk area for falls/injuries and the signage for prior foot-ware should be taken seriously. There were places on the rocks where I was scrambling on my hands, feet, and butt just to cross safely. Snakes, spiders, and ticks are present.

Ask the Community - Palisades Interstate Park State Line Lookout

Is there any part where you can go down to put your feet in the water, like a little beach area?

There is a trail down to the Hudson but it is a significant walk and climb, as there is a major elevation change. See https://www.njpalisades.org/ for tips and routes.

It's a 40 acre nature preserve that's easily walkable. After you first walk in there's an area with picnic benches and a house that has a cute bird garden in the back. The public areas are kept well and clean. Unfortunately, some people don't know how to pick up after themselves and ruin it. There are benches throughout the preserve. There are two former Hudson River estates located in here. They pretty much are in ruins. It looks eerie, yet inviting. They are working on these properties so they're all closed off. The best part of the preserve are the TONS of white tailed deer that roam throughout. They're not too scared of humans. They'll walk right in front of you without a care in the world. I found great joy in that. I was able to sit at one of the picnic tables and enjoy watching them graze on the grass. I don't get to do that in NYC! I also came across a groundhog while walking through the place. There are many layers here and steep slopes with stairs that lead down to other areas going towards a street, some housing and towards the river. The butterfly garden was nice, but I didn't see a butterfly during my visit. Lenoir Preserve is very quite with not too much people traffic so if you're looking for a nice place to relax, read a book or take a hike, it's perfect. They say no pets allowed, but there were quite a few people there walking their dogs.
