Upon arrival at the Village Shopping Ctr on Tues. Apr 14, approx 2pm, I stood @ the front desk waiting longer than usual for assistance (not a big deal). When the employee finally showed up, she was clearly mad that I had interrupted something she had been doing in the back of the store. She did not greet me but rudely mumbled "last" then "first" . She couldn't find me in the system so I nicely repeated the spelling of my last name. Apparently, I said it too fast for her liking so she rolled her eyes & repeated the first 3 letters back to me incorrectly in a mocking tone. I spelled my name again slower and she once again rolled her eyes. By this time I was annoyed so I rolled my eyes. She stopped abruptly & viciously confronted me "did u just roll ur eyes at me?!" I responded "yes in response to ur repeated eye rolls". She began flipping out in a very confrontational way. She wanted an argument & I just wanted to tan. Eventually I told her "u r acting bitchy & u know it!" She started escalating again, "did u just call me a bitch?" She grabbed the phone & ran to the back of the store saying "I'm calling my manager". Left me standing there for about 5 minutes so I finally left & went to the Short Pump location & reported her behavior to the manager there. I've never been treated so offensively by an employee of any establishment ever in my life. I was in a great mood when I entered-Her attitude was unbelievably confrontational, rude & offensive. I cancelled my membership over this situation as I don't want to experience anything like that again. Since I don't hv her name, I will describe her appearance: petite, possibly in her early 20's with long, dark, curly hair working alone on Tuesday. Walked in... front desk personnel was virtually useless. Only interest was getting my personal information for their system before assisting me with what services are available. Their computer scans your drivers license, but for some reason it wasn't working with mine... normally not a big deal but for her this was the end of the world. She actually had to manually enter it in (the horror). She initially tried to turn me away because of her distraction with the scanner. Anyway... their menu of beds/booths has a graduating level system with no description of the beds/booths, no data on radiation, but they sure do like to tell you the price. Not surprisingly they are more expensive than any tanning salon I've ever been to and I've been to quite a few. In the end: Poor service, attitude, and overpriced. No thanks... I went to PBT to purchase a couple of sessions only. I was nervous to go because I was worried I'd get the membership sales pitch when that's not what I was looking for at all. The gal at the front desk was very friendly and accommodating. She listened to my needs and did not pressure me to purchase a membership which was a huge relief. I liked the stand up bed the best but I do feel like I could have used more minutes than were chosen for me which is the reason for the 4 star review. read more

While I reluctantly extend gratitude to the officer for sparing me complete exposure, the fact remains that my personal dignity was trampled upon, reducing me to an object of public scrutiny and embarrassment. This brazen disregard for my privacy is an affront to the very principles of customer service and compassionate human interaction. To compound the outrage, the involved officer callously abandoned the basic tenets of the law. No attempt was made to verify my identity, no legitimate grounds were presented to search of my personal belongings. This blatant abuse of power and the officer's hasty actions based on misguided assumptions trampled upon my rights, leaving me victimized and disillusioned. In summary, this incident ranks as the most harrowing and mortifying experience I have ever endured within a public setting. Palm Beach Tan's woeful failure to rectify the situation in a manner befitting basic decency, coupled with the officer's outrageous allegations and flagrant breaches of the law, highlight the alarming absence of customer welfare and accountability within their establishment. I was told to wait outside and call UBER. Once again, I was not high or inebriated in any way. Thus, I spent about $70 on Uber rides from my home in Midlothian then back to the palm beach tan parking lot in Short Pump where I was made to leave my car. To say the least, I'm trying to be cordial but I'm livid I would appreciate it if you could heed this cautionary tale and exercise utmost vigilance before considering Palm Beach Tan. Staff is very courteous and helpful. I wanted to try spray tanning and the first one did not do well. So, I talked to the girls and they gave me good instructions and helped as much as they could. They even offered to give me a free visit because it wasn't what I expected. I didn't think that was necessary, but I appreciated they were willing to do that because I wasn't happy. Now, I went back today and told them after a week how I felt it turned out and how I thought it could be better. Wow, I'm not sure what they did differently but I love the results. I love PBT. First time at Shortpump location. I often purposely do not bring my wallet with me because the employees will harass you into buying things. My trip was no different except the employee literally seemed PISSED that I wasn't going to buy anything. Just let me tan. I'm not spending $50 on lotion - no need to get upset. read more

So disappointed in this establishment. I wanted to find a new tanning location because my old place, South Beach Tanning closed down. Last month, I bought a three tan session and paid for that along with a full-size tan lotion. I came back today, August 5th, and was told my last session expired on the 31st. When I asked her if there was anything she could do, the young woman Britney who was working at the front desk said that there was nothing she could do. I asked if she could call a manager so I could ask her if she could make a one time exception. She said no, and did not even pick up the phone to try. It's such a shame because I wanted to purchase a monthly membership. I will not be back. I just wasted about $20 for the session and $70 for tanning lotion I will never use. You absolutely have to do better with your customer service. read more

To cancel your monthly membership you have to arrive (in person) to cancel on the 25th of the month. I arrived on the 27th. The reason I was not able to physically arrive at a store location on the 25th is because I was the victim of numerous crimes and was dealing with one of the worst things in my life, let alone talking with the police, not being able to sleep, not really even being able to function. I contacted the corporate office and they did not care about my circumstances. They sad that I didn't cancel by the 25th so they could not issue a refund. Even after informing them of my situation, they told me there was nothing they could do. The District Manager Michelle Tiedemann was told about my circumstances and she refused to issue a refund. I arrived less than 48 hours after their cut off date, the reason I was late is something out of my control and something I wish did not happen. October is Domestic Violence Awareness month. I will NEVER deal with this company again and I hope customers think twice about the company they may wish to support. After everything I've been through, having to fight over a $32.99 charge is absolutely disgusting and sad. read more

This location really is excellent. They have great quality beds (newer models), and the staff really is super nice. The other night I came in about 40 minutes to close (had to because it was my last night before my contract cancelled and had to obey the 24 hour tan rule). I've noticed people pile in to this location just minutes before close like an epidemic. And the staff member who got 4 people back to back with me wedged in between was beyond nice to everyone and even talked to each person personally giving solid recommendations based on their deals with their individual plans and explained the beds getting new bulbs put in and what their new time recommendations should be. I didn't get her name but she was a white girl with tattoos, said she makes her own custom spray tan for herself, and was exceptional. I would not be that pleasant with so many people showing up in the last 40 minutes. Especially if I was closing by myself. The rest of the staff here has also always been superiorly nice compared to some of the other locations and they seem to definitely do more business. Just wanted to give them props. read more

I've been a member of Palm Beach Tan now for probably about 5 years. I originally began tanning with them in Maryland and just moved to the Richmond area and low and behold there was a Palm Beach Tan here! The salon is easy to find and there's lots of parking which is a definite plus. They carry really good lotions (I got a new one today for 25% off and upgraded my whole membership for just $1.00). I really like that you can freeze your membership or cancel-even the same day that you join. Everybody here was super friendly. They do talk about sales but aren't overly pushy, but thats there job and to be expected with any tanning salon that you go too. To be honest I've always bought lotions from my salon so it's never really bothered me and just let them know when I'm ready to purchase more. Bed 19 is really cool and gives really good color. I have spray tanned at a couple of their other locations but haven't at this one yet, but I'm sure it's just as good! The salon was also really clean and everything in the beds were in working order.
