We've used PH Auto several times in the past for our vehicles and they always seemed nice enough to continue going to other than the sometimes slow nature and having to leave car overnight or days. Today I took my car in for a perceived starter issue and left it with then. I was called quick and advised it was a bad starter and quoted $325 plus tax. I said that's fine, get it done. A few hours later I wax called saying it is ready and starter was fine, it was a bad battery. I'm like great thinking it'll be less money now I go pick up car and the BATTERY is $307! What? I could've gone to auto-zone and they'd put new battery in for $160. The bill said $117 for removal and replacement which I asked about and was told "testing" You'd think a small local business would be concerned and let you know before charging double just for a battery replacement but I guess I expect too much. I hate io leave such a negative review but after this visit and my sports car trunk being dented (which they paid to have fixed) last time, I think I'm officially done here. read more

To replace gaskets, messed up, had to buy new gaskets and charged me for both as well as the oil. Broke multiple parts and charged me for replacing them, one of them I had to point out. Took months to complete and I noticed my car was now one of the "regulars" that are parked out front to have them redo the work. As a result, the oil leaks still not fixed and I've taken to another shop. Billy is a good "nice guy" and will talk you off the cliff while his flunkies ruin your car. Run don't walk from this place. read more

I took my Mazda MPV minivan for an oil leak issue. They really took their time fixing it and after 2 weeks I got my van back, however while driving home and luckily just arriving to my parking spot, there was a trail of coolant, that I don't know for how long spilled all over. I inspected the van and called them right away so they could send someone as the van was not working properly and overheating. Of course with no coolant what engine won't overheat. So a guy came to my place and run a vacuum test to find out what happened, there was a huge leak somewhere. We continued inspecting and found out that 2 hoses were disconnected and the attachments were broken. I asked the guy to fix it and he said he couldn't do it as he was sent only to run an inspection. When I talked to this lady over the phone in their shop, she said his mechanic didn't touch anything else other than fixing the engine leak and if I wanted to get it fixed they will charge me. My van didn't have the overheating and coolant leak on 2 pipes when I left it at the service shop. They never took responsibility to fix the issue they created and I had to go and buy the connectors myself and fix it. On top of that they broke the grill cover in the front of my van and didn't apologize or attempted to fix what they have created. The engine looked like it was rushed and cables and connectors were not properly put back. Very sloppy shop and service overall. I will not recommend at all for servicing your car. read more

My wife came down a few days before I did. Our Escape, which we leave down here; battery was dead as a door nail. AAA got her started, but was told it would not restart. After a few calls of not today, she called Palm Harbor Auto and they got our vehicle right in. Hour later, new battery, happy Escape, happy wife, happy life!! Thanks guys. contacted Palm Harbor Auto Service about replacing a front CV axle on my daughter's car. I spoke to the owner's son, Matt who quoted $300-$350. I made an appointment to take it in. While checking in for my appointment, I was asked to sign a form that included questions about the cost. I checked the box stating I wanted a written estimate if costs were above $350.00. About an hour later I got a call from Matt saying the cost would be higher than $350, instead it would be $465. I understand that things can change after looking at the car so I said okay. Later in the day, Matt contacted me to say car was done but the cost was over $600. When I arrived at the shop to pick up car I told Matt I should have been notified about the increase before the work was done. After arguing with him, he finally reduced the bill to $570, still over $100 higher than what I had agreed to. I believe this practice is unethical and I would not recommend this shop read more

These guys might do okay with some cars, but rather than tell you they don't know how to properly service your car, they will "try" and it will lead to continued problems. Then, when there's something wrong they won't fix it. One problem leads to another and another. They play the "blame" game but should realize other than the dealership, they are the only ones who have performed work. Having 12 month program on parts might be their way to keep you coming back so you continue to have problems. An oil change lead to air conditioner burning smells....literally driving home from the shop. Fixed headlights and BOTH needed to be repaired in less than 6 months. Thank goodness we have found a reputable mechanic that can service our cars. Very disappointed I have invested so much with this mechanic because they came highly recommended. I have learned from others; including who referred me, that the quality of service has really slipped. read more

I had an awful experience with Billy Coleman. I let him work on a classic 1976 280Z. It was in his shop for 44 days and what I got back was deplorable. Negligence at its best ! 2431.16 dollars and cents got me missed place parts, which I can not replace. A soft form of larceny which I could not fully execute as I sent Pinellas finest to get back three out of the five of personal property articles that he lost. He left my engine bay undone and a host of billable lies as to charging me for erroneous claims of labor. Beware, he talks a good game and treats his employed like shite. read more

A headlight blew out on a visit from Atlanta to Florida and Palm Harbor Auto Service fixed our problem though we had no appointment and had called them just before lunchtime. We were greeted by one of the most professional and courteous service advisors we've ever encountered. Because we were "walk-in's" it took a little longer than usual to get our new headlight mounted but: The service team went to the trouble of checking wiring to ensure there wasn't a short and found an after-market replacement that cost far less than a dealership would have charged. 4 years going here. I know this business is tough, always willing to give the benefit of the doubt on an an older vehicle that may always need repairs, but multiple visits for the same issues, and still not fixed is unacceptable. I wasn't more than 2 miles from the shop today and the issue resurfaced after 2 visits to the shop to fix it. They are always "down a mechanic", "down 2 mechanics" (Service writer and office manager's own words) so always takes longer then expected. I referred a new neighbor and they had similar issues and told me they would not be back. We both have spent a bunch of money here willingly on older vehicles, but not any longer. One of the mechanics even told my wife we should junk my POS vehicle. She's not a fan of my vehicle but she was even offended by the comment. I really wanted to like this shop, The owner nice and responsive, but they just can't seem to get the job done correctly or reliably :-( I recommend you go somewhere else for repairs, as I now have to do to get the vehicle repaired and running right AGAIN :-( read more

Needed a new master cylinder on my father's Honda Civic. I researched the cost of the part, and asked for a fairer price than the high markup they initially quoted me. They came down in price, only then to replace the calipers without informing me, which drove the cost back up. When I protested, the owner behaved like a bully, and told me I should have known it would be a bigger and more expensive repair. I left feeling terrible. The next day, the car broke down on U.S. 19 when the rods clamped the brakes shut. At high speed, it was very dangerous. We towed the car back to the garage and they fixed it, but without any apologies or remorse that, due to their error, we could have been in a fatal accident. Then they said they couldn't get to it the next day in fact they couldn't service it until the following tuesday. WHAT A JOKE! Meanwhile we didn't have our car all day so I just picked it up and I'm going to take it somewhere else. If they couldn't work on it they shouldn't have made the appointment with me. I decided to fix my old truck rather than buy another for the money. I took my truck to Palm Harbor Auto because it had been missing on a cylinder. They determined that the fuel injectors needed to be rebuilt. After having a 3rd party rebuild the injectors, they reassembled my truck. They took it for a drive, parked it, and I paid them $950 for the work. Buy the time I walked to my truck, there was a fire under the engine and transmission, and they opened the hood and the entire engine compartment was on fire. When they installed the fuel rails, they pinched an o-ring. They patched a couple wires, and called it good. Now I can't get it in gear while at a dead stop, I have connectors and wires that are so brittle they break when I try to do anything. Now I have bigger problems than when I went there. I should have sued them right then, but I trusted they would "take care of me" like they said. Now it is too late to sue them, and I have a burned up truck. read more
