Dale from Palm Island helped plan our entire backyard landscape within our budget around our pool. We started with smaller palms and shrubs that we could afford and they planted and dripped them and immediately transformed our landscape from dessert. Then a year later we had them come back to improve pre-existing drainage, lay weed barrier and rock it. Now, 3 1/2 years later everything has grown and people comment all the time how it is a tropical paradise! We love looking at & living in our backyard. read more

My wife inquired about getting a palm tree removed from our yard. We were on the fence about getting rid of it. Palm Island Nursery came to my house today and removed it without our permission. The last email that my wife sent was asking if having a sprinkler head near the tree would be a problem. Dale responded by scheduling service that we did not agree to. He scheduled the service in less than 24 hours of his reply without our knowledge or agreement. I woke up and my tree was gone. I called and talked to the owner. He is not trying to remedy the situation at all and even hung up on me. They removed it so they could resale it. I want it back! Update: Went to this business and could see my palm tree sitting in his lot for sale. He said he will not be giving it back unless we pay him about $800. Sounds like tree ransom. Beware of doing business with Dale Motiska (business owner of Palm Island Nursery Outlet) Going to have to go to small claims for this now. read more

We have been SO thrilled with Palm Island Nursery. Dale designed a beautiful, unique shade garden/patio for us. His team took out the existing landscape, prepped the full area, installed all of our plant materials and reinforced all of our irrigation. The trees, plants and shrubs are beautiful quality. This is a serious Palm Island. You will find the same palms that you can find at some other nurseries, but at half the price. Then you will find some palms that are not so easy to find, and these are also much less expensive than anywhere else. If you love palms this is an incredible find, a treasure trove. Many people would be surprised that there are lots of palms that thrive in our Northern California environment. It has changed our house and our lives. read more

It's located just outside the main area of Vacaville, and is a short drive from downtown. I was impressed at the maturity and amount of selection he had. We went to another bamboo seller located in Davis called Davis Bamboo, and while the owner was very knowledgeable and helpful, his prices and quality of bamboo being in fairly poor condition were turn offs. It's also worth noting that as far as bamboo prices are concerned (that's all we bought), the prices were considerably lower for the maturity/height and size of the bamboo that we could find elsewhere, including nearby and online. A bamboo enthusiast had e-mailed me a response, telling me that black bamboo in a 8x2x2 water trough container would probably max out around 15 feet in this area due to root constraints. Well, the bamboo we purchased had already met this height, if not surpassed it! We met with Dale, the owner of Palm Island Nursery earlier this spring. We had mentioned we were interested in creating a bamboo privacy screen around two corners of our patio. He invited us to come take a look (by appointment) and that he'd show us around his supply of bamboo. So when we met with him, we still had a few questions and he said well why don't I just show you some examples of mature bamboo. We followed him to his house, and wow does this man have some bamboo growing on his property. At least half a dozen mature varieties all over his yard. The fact that he was willing to show us his own bamboo with a tour and actual examples of height/spread in this climate area definitely impressed me. We thanked him for his time and it wasn't until last week that we went and finally bought some bamboo from him. He gave us a bulk discount and delivered it the next day. He helped me drag them into our backyard and set them up against the fence. If you're in the area and looking for bamboo, coming here is a no brainer. Service and price can't be beat. He had a lot of palms too, some that were towering overhead. I'll try to attach a few pictures of the bamboo purchased. read more

The new location is right off 80 and leisure town. This place is amazing. Best prices around and tons of cool palms and cacti. We are doing a desert landscape around our pool and putting a big palm tree in the front yard and the owner Dale has completely helped us every step of the way. Buyers Beware! This company was given over $74,000.00 for 2 Palm Trees (that is not a typo) and they refuse to deliver based on our original terms. DO NOT give them money until they deliver material to you or they will try and get you to pay more money than what you agreed for bogus charges like "storage fees" and they are even trying to charge us interest in our own money -unbelievable! read more

My little boy and I stopped by Palm Island Nursery this weekend to pick up a 5 gallon mule palm for the front yard. Dale has one of the few nurseries in the Bay Area with the mule palm (looks like a coconut tree!), and his price was very reasonable, considering its rarity. A year ago, I also purchased two 15 gallon queen palms from him, which he delivered to my home, also at a reasonable cost. I'd say he's very reliable, honest, and knowledgeable about creating a beautiful leafy green tropical experience in our Northern Cal yard. He gave me good tips on fertilizing and maintaining my palms too. He has a pretty big inventory, is very friendly, and I'd recommend him. read more

i havent been here in a long time, so my review my be a little off. these guys sell palms primarily (duh). most of their stuff is brokered, so the prices are a little bit high, but then, this is sonoma county and palm growers are a little hard to come by. they do have a nice selection of hardy palms and some other tropicals to choose from. you can get them in 1g size up to 40' tall specimens. they have or can get the Phoenix canariensis and the Jubaea chilensis, for a pretty penny. i remember this place not looking wonderful which why i am only give them a 4. i felt that there should have been a better display garden. the greenhouses were very monochromatic in their arrangement, but then this is just nitpicking. really you go to nurseries to get good plant material, which they have dont get me wrong, but it makes it that much better if it all is pretty to look at. read more

I stopped by this nursery in the middle of nowhere. This is a great place to go if you're looking for very rare tropical plants at an affordable price. I got a couple of mule palms and bamboos. The owner was a down to earth man and very helpful. He opens by appointment only. I will definitely be back with my neighbor since I have to pick up the Australian bottle tree I just purchased too.
