This is a cute and very reasonable priced place to stay right on the lake. We originally were going to stay in a suite, not a cabin. But when we arrived there had been a mixup with housekeeping, and the room had not been cleaned. They had first said they would send housekeeping right away, then offered to upgrade us to a cabin. The cabin was quite nice, and the bed was very comfortable. The only difference was the suite included bath towels. In the cabins you had to bring your own, so there were no towels. But that was OK, because we had brought bath towels, not quite understanding the website. Great value for the money, and I would definitely come back here again. read more

I love what the new owners are doing here! We have stayed here numerous times over the past 20+ years under the two previous owners. Each had their own approach, but the new owners are really taking this place in the right direction. The cabins have all been given a facelift without sacrificing the feel of a lake side cabin. One of our favorite things are the pontoon boats that you can rent by the day or for your whole stat. On our very first visit we experienced the joys of Nibbles, a small eatery/ice cream shop on the property. The new owners have aggressive plans to revive this sweet spot which will surely be a favorite stop for all who live on the lake! You will not be disappointed in this cute little gem of a property just minutes from downtown Colon, Michigan (which is also accessible via boat!) The town is host to several great restaurants as well as some awesome magic shows! The salon in town is a welcome stop if you forgot to get your toenails painted before you arrived! Just returned from a long weekend here and couldn't wait to post my review. We had a blast and were so impressed with the resort. We stayed in Lakeside cabin #4 and it was adorable. Super clean and had everything we could need. The owners were around if we needed them but didn't impose on our little vacay. The entire reason we picked this place is because they did on-site boat rentals and it was perfect and super convenient. The pictures on the website don't do this place justice . . . it was quiet, quant and clean. We can't wait to come back as it was exactly what we've been looking for! read more

Palmer Lake Lodges is fantastic. The owners are so sweet and accommodating. If you're like me, you don't want to actually camp, but you want a cute lil cabin where you can unwind and unplug and still feel like you're camping. But with a/c and no bugs and like, beds to sleep in. Honestly this is the cutest - each cozy cabin sleeps like 6+ and has a lakeside view and tons of storage. PLUS they have boat rentals. And the cabins are pet friendly. And there's a bed and breakfast option. And an ice cream parlor. And the owner has an adorable lil frenchie. My boyfriend and I are just leaving after an awesome week at the lake. We had so much fun! We had a spacious, clean and cozy cabin. A grill, a fire pit, canoes, a pontoon, a huge yard, sand volleyball, basketball hoop, and a cafe on the grounds with delicious waffles, cinnamon rolls, ice cream and cookies! Such a relaxing, peaceful and beautiful week! And if you drive in to town, there are cool magic shops with quirky workers that love to show off their magic tricks! My parents were high school sweethearts in Colon and we still have family there. Since the time I was young (one of four kids), we would stay in the Palmer Lake Lodges when visiting our Michigan family and attending family events. I have many happy memories of staying at the lodges. I now love sharing time at Palmer Lake with my husband and son...and we always stay at Palmer Lake Lodges. The lodges aren't fancy, but they are comfortable and have everything a family needs to have a great time at the lake. They have row boats and pontoon boats available for rent and a cute little restaurant on the property. The management and staff always provide excellent customer service. We look forward to many more family visits! read more

First impressions were not good at Palmer Lake Lodges on Palmer Lake in Colon, Michigan. If you were in a pinch and like it rustic, this would be ok, if you're ok with cobwebs and a few other inconveniences. The photos on their website (by the way the website was changed after we booked in February) are nothing like the cabin we stayed in, except perhaps the kitchen and that looked the same. And the fully furnished kitchen needed to have at least 1 sharp knife and a potholder or two. I know they said to bring your own towels, but I expected at least one dish towel in the kitchen, but there was not. The website says modern cabins...I would question the modern part. Now I must say that we visited a few weeks before our arrival to make sure the cabin would sleep the 7 of us, she couldn't show us cabin #1 because it was locked (that is where she had us booked, because it was a bit larger than the rest, but just a bit) but she showed us cabin #3 instead. It was pleasant and appeared to be good for us. The website says it sleeps 8 comfortably...that is not true unless they bring in bunk beds, as they will do, but that would make for a tight squeeze. Our cabin had a double bed in one room, a double bed with a bunk above it in the other bedroom (they do go wall to wall) so if you are tall, it probably wouldn't work for you, and we had a futon in the living area. There was a loveseat that a child could sleep on. Upon arrival we met the young lady who runs the business and she is very kind and helpful. She was happy to tell us the cabin was ready for us. She took us in to show us around and I was surprised that this cabin didn't look like the cabin we visited previously. I was pretty "grossed out" when I saw the large floor rug in the living room area covered with dirt and dog hair, as it was evident that nobody had cleaned. The loveseat was also covered with dog hair. She told us that there was a light outside the back door, but probably not good to use it because it draws bugs to the area...well we didn't need to worry about it, because of the 3 outdoor lights on the outside of our cabin, none had bulbs in them. My husband went and asked for a vacuum cleaner to clean up the dog hair and she immediately came and started vacuuming. The bedrooms are tiny and dark and have old outdated dirty carpet in them. On the floor in the doorway to one bedroom were tacks sticking up out of the floor from a tack strip and my daughter stepped on them once and remembered after that to step over! Speaking of floors, ours had linoleum (not glued down) in most of the area other than the bedrooms which had a very rippled/wavy effect. It appeared to have been laid down over indoor/outdoor carpet, and I wonder what kind of condition the carpeting was in that was covered up. The one bedroom had a dresser in it and in the 8 inches between the dresser and wall it was disgusting. It appeared that nobody had bothered to clean, dust or vacuum that area in a very long time. There were lots of cobwebs, a spider egg nest, and dirt (see pictures). I checked under the bed and it was the same way. I couldn't sleep the first night in that bedroom wondering what may be crawling on me. So I moved to the fouton in the living room from then on. The cleaning crew, if they have one, does not pay attention to those areas when cleaning. There were many many cobwebs and some small spiders in the cabin. It was obvious, though, this room hadn't been cleaned well in a long time. The bathroom always had hot water (a plus) but the floor had some kind of cutout right in the middle. I'm guessing that is how they access the plumbing. It's a square cut out and then put back into place, so when you first step on it, you think the floor is rotted away, but it's not. And just from the 4 days we were there a big old brown stain appeared from where the water dripped from the shower head. It didn't look rusty as most iron stains, but dark brown. Also, speaking of bathrooms, they supply the toilet paper, but when she told us the cabin was ready for us, there was only 1/2 of a roll of 1 ply toilet paper :-) for the entire week for 7 people. The owner did bring us another roll (yay..2 ply). They also supply you with a roll of paper towels for cleaning, etc. For the cabin being ready for us when we arrived, I think the only thing that had been done were beds made up and even then, after seeing the cobwebs and the condition of the other things in the cabin, I even wondered if the bedding was clean or not. I am assuming it was, but again not sure. My husband and daughter had issues with their noses plugging up every time they entered the cabin. :-( It does have a full size fridge and stove and small microwave. Kitchen appears to have been updated. Good idea to bring bottled water as the water is high in iron. Only has wi-fi if you walk up to the B&B, as it doesn't reach the cabins. No room for 8 to sit comfortably. Seating for 5-6. read more

The lodges were absolutely AMAZING! We stayed in cabin 3 and it was super cozy and clean. We weren't sure what to expect other than from reading other reviews but the hostess at the bait shop was ready to greet us from the second we arrived...we felt welcome immediately! I seriously felt like I was at home and not a guest. And the lake, lodge, beach, trees, etc was also SO gorgeous. My bf and I just sat on the dock gazing at the sunset until we finally decided to take a boat out. Polina the hostess was so helpful in showing us how to operate it and it was so relaxing, easy and fun! Not to mention the delicious food and the quiet and the beautiful weather. Palmer Lake Lodge is a hidden jewel! First of all the owner Polina couldn't be any nicer. She was so sweet and friendly when we arrived. The grounds are nice, there's a sand volleyball court, disk golf, swimming, pontoon rentals, picnic tables, fire pits and best of all you can bring your dog! We were there while a family reunion was occupying the other 5 cabins and took over the resort so we didn't have the opportunity to use some of the things there. We rented an awesome pontoon and Polina was wonderful about our time with it. Nibbles is super cute and the ice cream was delicious! We wish we had the opportunity to have tried some of her home cooking. We highly recommend it. read more

My family and I spent this past Fourth of July holiday weekend at Palmer Lake Lodges and simply could not have asked for a better place to reunite. The Lodges are located at an excellent spot right on the lake, and the amenities were endless. From a well maintained cabin with numerous supplies to a beautiful bed & breakfast room, everything that we needed was at our disposal and provided by a friendly, hard-working staff. Aside from the clean, well-equipped rooms, I must say, the staff cooked up some delicious meals at the lakeside cafe, Nibbles! The chicken and waffles, mozzarella sticks and peanut butter fudge ice cream were on point! I should mention the pontoons, fishing, beach volley ball and ping pong as well. Overall, the entertainment was fantastic and the relaxation was just what my family needed, and I know we'll be returning to Palmer Lake Lodges soon. P.S. Colon's Fourth of July fireworks display over the lake were majestic. What a great place to vacation! read more

Stopped by the last two days for ice cream while on vacation. The ice cream was so good and had a good variety of flavors. The owners are super nice and accommodating. We would highly recommend this place! We didn't stay in the lodges but the property is very nice with it plenty of outdoor space and beach volleyball court. read more

I was basically just looking for a nice, quiet, relaxing weekend getaway in a nice place, and that's exactly what I got here. The lake was beautiful and there was not even a hint of traffic noise, people yelling and screaming, pollution or crowded sidewalks as this place is located in the wonderful small town of Colon, MI. A very nice change of pace that could not have delivered if not for Palmer Lake Lodges. I got to take a boat out onto the water at night, which was exactly what I needed. Our hostess (also the owner) was extremely friendly and hospitable. Added bonus: the food and ice cream were great too. Looking forward to my next visit! read more

Wonderful place! We definitely will come back!! My family spent 3 days last week at the Palmer Lake Lodges at Colon, Michigan. It is a beautiful lake. They also rent pontoons, water bikes, and other boats. The cottages are very comfortable and well furnished. They have a cafe very conveniently located next door to the cottages, which has a variety of great food, especially breakfast, lunch items and AMAZING ICE-CREAM! Fishing was great: we caught 3 large-mouth bass, a catfish and numerous smaller fish. Owners of the Palmer Lake Lodges are active in providing a pleasant, enjoyable experience. Our family greatly appreciates the service provided by the resort manager, Polina. She is an outstanding, friendly and personable hostess. WE DEFINITELY WILL BE BACK WITH OUR FAMILY AND FRIENDS!!! read more

If it was possible I would give this place -3 stars. First our reservation was botched . We booked a cabin ended up with our family split between a cramped bed and breakfast room and a afterthought bedroom / kitchen/ family room nightmare. If you plan to stay here let me guide your packing list . 1 bug bomb for all the spiders 2 kitchen towels , pot holders , plates , bowls, just pack like your tent camping . 3 extra lights most of the lights are so dim your lucky to see where your walking at night. I visited Palmer Lake Lodges a month ago and meant to write a review, but got busy. You can rent a cabin, also rent a pontoon and eat there in a nice, rural rustic setting near a mile wide lake. To my surprise, there were very few mosquitoes there. Overall the stay was wonderful, the owners helpful and the views spectacular. This place is often all booked so I had to make a reservation in advance. Clearly the owners want my business and generally I received very good service. The cabin was clean when I arrived. Money-wise, the prices were reasonable and they did not nickel-and-dime me like some other places. They even helped me jump start my car when it would not start. read more

This is one of those "You get what you pay for" places. It was a good deal as far as cost and I was lucky to find this place because I really waited to long to make plans of this type. Anyway, my family had a great time just because we were all together for the weekend. They provide a lot of amenities that make it comfortable, dishes, pans, coffee maker, grill (although I'm not fond of charcoal). They also provide bedding, but we checked in on Friday and was short on bedding for 3 beds until Saturday. Also, they were not prepared for us upon arrival. They knew we had 9 people, but didn't bring in the last bunk until after we checked in at which time they brought the bed, mattress and spider webs. The blender worked but it was ancient and it smoked. They ask you to sweep and vacuum before you leave, but the floors were unswept when we checked in and the vacuum they provided worked but was falling apart, so they had it strapped together. A storm rolled through on Saturday evening and the power went off for about 15 seconds. After the storm, the owner came out and asked everyone if they had power, but his accent is so heavy, I didn't understand what he was asking my daughter. She didn't even know who he was and once she realized he was talking to her, she said "I'm sorry, what?", he yelled "ELECTRICITY, am I talking to myself here!" The photos are misleading, as far as the cottage I was in, #4, which is kind of run down. I have to say though, it was decent enough to sleep and shower, a step up from tent camping. Make sure and bring drinking water. The iron content is so high you can smell and taste it. All the sinks and shower are orange from the iron. The piers are nice if you rent a pontoon or just want to enjoy the pretty sunsets. The beach is a mile away, small but clean, water is clear. This wouldn't be my first choice, but I would stay here again, if it were the only lake cottage available. read more

Just spent an amazing weekend here. We stayed in the bed and breakfast and the rooms were very clean and nice. The staff was so friendly and accomodating. There is so much to do there. Boating, fishing, sand volleyball, ping pong and just relaxing and enjoying the view. Nibbles cafe is a great place to grab a bite to eat. Good food and prices. They also have wonderful ice cream!
