This is the closest library to me and I love it here. It's small but has everything I need. They host weekly yoga classes and have meditation and sound bath classes too. The checkout kiosk makes it convenient to check out your own books with no wait. There's plenty of parking. read more

I came to this library to get a free compost pail. This location was only the only place nearby in West LA that was participating in that program. The librarian at the information station was really helpful in answering any questions and the process was quick to do a pick up - just give your LA address. She encouraged me to also to let others know because they had extra compost pails for those in the LA community. Compost bags not included. It was a bit difficult to get into the parking. I actually missed it the first time because there's no clear signage and had to go completely around, which added another 10 minutes to the drive. It's next to the freeway so it's easy to miss. The parking lot is shared with the park, and there are restrictions on certain spots so it can be tricky to get a spot. read more

The baby boomers who work here are so entitled. I was seated in the youth area doing schoolwork on my computer. An old man and a boomer lady who works here told me they are sitting in the youth area so they can talk. I left the youth area and stood for an hour by book shelves since there wasn't any other available seating. They spoke so loudly I couldn't focus. Then the old boomer worker lady comes over to me and says I need to be quiet when I can literally hear her and the old man from across the library. Insanity to harass me after you ruined the youth area I was trying to do actual work in and instead you're just talking for fun. Never would recommend this place. Palms library is great for quick trips after the park (on-site). We usually check out about 5 children's books and bring it back the next week. The facilities are clean, the book selection is big. The library itself is small but I think it's been well maintained. Free parking onsite. read more

I visited this library a few times when I used to work in this area. It is a very tiny library here on the West Los Angeles community of Palms Rancho Park. There are limited resources here, but they had added more computers and laptops the last time I was here. Parking lot is not very big either. Lots of families with their children come and play and read books with them. Older books here and some current magazines. So do not expect much here. But the people I met were nice and not rude. I love this community. Its a pleasure to visit here when I can. read more

The Palms Rancho Park Library is the greatest library in Los Angeles . I self taught myself to use computers at this library . I asked zillions of questions driving the staff nuts. The librarians deserve a Purple Heart putting up with me . The staff is knowledgeable compassionate and never once got mad at my questions . One day the librarians started asking me computer questions, which I knew the answers , that's when I knew I succeeded in a way. This is a great clean library that is laid out well to maximize its space. I've always found the magazine reading area to be cozy. The staff is friendly and there's a large table of books for sale near the checkout. There is a good amount of computers for adults. Their children's section is large. I just wish noisy children were politely told to lower their voices by the staff since the parents don't seem to mind. Though I've never been upstairs, in the before Covid times, community meetings were held there. The parking lot is big and I always find a spot even though it is shared with the neighboring playground. You can also grab free magazines or flyers by the entrance and stay informed about what's going on in the community. This is my go to library for children's books. read more

I've been in LA for 7+ years and finally got a library card. This place is pretty conveniently located to my place. It's on overland, north of the freeway entrance. The library staff has always been pleasant and easy to work with. I have had no complaints during my multiple visits to check out books. The selection of books is decent. They have a "hot off the press" section for newer books that can only be checked out for one week, otherwise books are checked out for 3 weeks. I haven't had any problems obtaining books from other libraries when I put a hold to request them. Free parking in the lot next to the library. read more

There are good things and bad things about this library. If this was anything but a library, it would get two stars. But it is a library - a building full of books - right there it is a five star establishment. Now, the details. A lot of moms come here with young children. There is much screaming and crying. But, there are books that you can take home with you for free. Also, the Internet on the oodles of computers that are there for your free use, is stone age slow. But there are books. And, some would say, even better there is free WiFi that is surprisingly speedy. The selection of books, audio books, Cd's, and DVDs to choose from is rather limited, but the hold system is very efficient, so really you can get any book you can think of. This is a fantastic neighborhood library with lots of programs and resources available for the community. They have wonderful classes and reading groups for children of all ages, as well as some adult classes. Their hours are convenient and they have their own parking lot. read more

This review is based on my desire to read and work in peace, in a quiet environment. If you need an adult environment where it's quiet to work, this place is not for you. It feels more like a day care or roudy kids' playground. The kids/ play area (yes there is such a thing INSIDE the main library) attracts a lot of local toddlers and kids brought here by moms. I love kids and I don't have a problem with them being playful, but this place inside the library is just too much for me to handle. Some moms chat really loudly, and let their kids scream, run around everywhere and bugging people who are trying to get work done here. The librarians/ staff do not intervene and let them be loud. When the place is not overrun by disruptive kids, it's actually really nice, clean, comfortable for people who use the library to do work/ read. There are power outlets under most tables, and the wifi speed is decent. Notes for the hours: morning: place noisy with toddlers screaming Afternoon: The place attract a lot of school kids after school. They tend to be pretty loud too. Night: That's when this place gets quiet and nice. But it closes really early at 8pm, so it isn't that helpful. I just can't get over the noisiness and some users' lack of respect for the others, so I won't come here unless I'm desparate and can't find something better. read more

Great local branch library. They keep late evening hours and allow you to borrow DVD's for 3-7 days. Really beats renting and Netflix. The head librarian is very helpful and fields comments/complaints/suggestions smoothly. Go online, reserve your books and movies, have them sent to your local branch. It's ingenious. Small, but serviceable. I grew up in DTLA and went to the Central Library branch as a I grew up and there is no better LAPL branch! Now that I'm over on the Westside, I go to the Palsm branch because I can walk to it. It's focus is more on children since it is attached to a park/playground/recreation center but I just come here to pick up my holds. There's a parking lot which I've never had trouble finding a spot. I started coming to this library to write for a a few hours. The library is small,which means that everything said is heard. Everytime I go there's at least one kid screaming or chatting away. The parents don't stop it, and neither does the librarian. I've never been at a library where the librarian doesn't tell people to be quiet. I understand the place is small, but why are parents trying to get their 5 or 6 year old to sit in silence for hours at a time? Especially in the summer,and with a park across the library. There's not a lot of quiet place sin LA, but the way this library is ran annoys me so much I'll rather go write at a baseball game (which is supposed to be loud) than come here. read more

My new favorite library. I do love that Rancho Park, Culver City, Santa Monica, and Beverly Hills Libraries (all within 5 miles of each other) , each require their own card and you must fill out a separate application for each one. Not only that, but they give you the smallest pencil ever created to use (come on, can't you hook me up with a pen?). This library is great (also right next to a nice playground with jungle gym and slide :) Their library is much smaller than Santa Monica and Beverly Hills, but it is really nice for the space they've got. An excellent selection of free New Releases (7-Day) and DVDs (2-Day). Minus 1-star because the librarian/lady at the front desk had a little attitude, but it was lunch time, so maybe she was just hungry. read more

My happy place. I love books and I love my local library. The LAPL website is easy to navigate and I order my books online and pick them up here. Check out their quarterly book sale that happens in the community room upstairs. Great books and great deals. They are... daytime staff librarians speaking mindless personal nonsense NON-STOP amongst one another behind the large reference desk. Sigh. I love the library. Since I was a wee child, going to the library gave me the type of elation that puppies and ice cream give me. I finally feel like I have the time to read again so we went to this branch. It isn't bad. They have a great hot of the press section that you can get new books but have to bring them back in a week, no renewals, no holds, etc. They also have a DVD section. The staff was nice. They have a nice big parking lot attached to a park. I have no complaints except that it is a little small. Variety of books seemed good though and the LA public library has a great online catalog and ability to hold books easily which is nice. read more

I come here often to study on the weekends and some weekdays when I have the day off. There is plenty of parking so no need to worry about that. The only reason I'm giving this place four stars is because they have weird hours and are not open very late or early. Also, it can get a little loud as it's not a huge library so when there are many people the noise level definitely goes up! It can also get chilly in here if you plan to stay for a while, so I suggest to definitely bring a jacket! Overall, I really like this library and it is so conveniently close to my home. I love libraries. I don't know why it took me 2 years to drive down the street and get myself a library card, but I finally did and it feels good! (You can "pre-register" online and just bring your ID w/ proof of address in person -- it expedites the process) This location is pretty small, but thanks to the Internet, you can request books from other branches and pick them up wherever is convenient to you. There's also a cool "Hot off the Press" (or something like that...) section with newer books that have shorter rental times (7 days) -- picked up "Gone Girl" and finished it in 2 days. Not a problem, ha. There's a good amount of parking though it can sometimes fill up when there are events at the Rec center across the way. My interactions with the staff are hit-or-miss... some seem a little stressed/bored while others are friendly. Can't blame them, tough to work for the city during budget cuts and craziness like that! No self-check-out which is too bad, but I haven't had any problems waiting in line for the librarians to handle it. The hours are a little wonky -- so just check the website before showing up. WARNING: please don't return books to the overnight bin - the library will 'lose' them, then fine you $10 plus 4x the cost of the book. Also you will be blocked from borrowing anything else (although to be honest I would be too nervous to borrow again incase the items mysteriously get 'lost' when I return them). Sorry for the rant but here's what happened. As a long time member of the library I recently returned 4 items to the overnight bin. One of them - a $12 Very Short Introduction book - didn't make it back into the library database, obviously due to the incompetence of the staff. When I challenged this, I was told a claim would be opened (as in I 'claim' I returned the book. I don't 'claim' I did, I absolutely did). Now, in addition to being accused of stealing said book, the library have fined me $45. For a $12 book. I'm upset because I am a huge reader (& previous advocate of the Library - I've even donated money to it), have never stolen anything in my life, and am now wondering where I'm going to get reading material. Borrow at your peril. Unless you have the time to personally return items to a clerk, and get a receipt proving you did so, you run the risk of being screwed over by the bungling staff. read more

I borrowed a book from the Mar Vista Library and asked if I could return it here. Now I have an email from MVPL saying that my book is overdue. I even asked the member at the desk if it was OKay to return my book if it was from another library. This is the second time a library lost their own book. The first time was when MV lost a video and I had to show them it was on there own shelf. From now on, I will always get a receipt if I return something. This just reminded me why our family just buys books. If there is an e-book I would do that now, so it's never over-due. read more

I recently decided to try this library as an alternative to Starbucks to get some work done, and it has been a pretty good experience so far. It is hard to complain about a place that provides so much for free :) It is a bit small, but it is rarely crowded, and I have never had a problem finding parking. Even with a playground right across the parking lot and lots of kids around the noise level is never too bad. I even checked out a book today and it was super quick and easy. This branch definitely does not have all the selection, services and space of the central library in downtown, but am willing to do without all that for something in my own neighborhood with lots of free parking. read more

This is a great library that offers activities for kids and yes the little ones enjoy it as well. I give this library a mixed review... maybe as a library I should give it 5 stars... I mean heck, how can you complain when there's books. The library system can even requisition books from other branches, which you then sign up for in this branch. My only beef is that there seem to be permanently installed net surfers at every desk in the place. Which gives the place the vibe of a homeless encampment. Maybe, admittedly, I need to try more and different times of day. This isn't an exhaustive study. Just a knee-jerk response to my last few visits. But they do have books. read more

I am library folk. I have worked in both public and university libraries for a total of ten years, so I highly value any library. Which is why I can't give this place less than three stars. That being said, I swear the staff at this library really seems to hate their lives. They've been pretty consistently cold, but I got an extra b- I mean, witchy woman on the phone the other day, when calling to renew books. Me: "Hello, I'd like to renew my books please." WW: "Did you call the number on the back of your card to renew them?" (Uh, if I did, I wouldn't have reached you, right??) Me: "No, I just looked up the library's number online. Does this mean you can't re-new them?" WW: (extremely huffy) "I can this one time, but after this, you really need to start using that number." I have done this job, and I would never treat a patron like this. Besides, libraries need funding, which means they need patrons, so let's not scare them off by being rude, shall we? I have got to be honest. I am giving this library 5 stars only because it seems cruel to give an underfunded free service a bad rating. I mean, the staff's fine, the selection's serviceable (and with the library's handy hold system, the collection of an individual branch hardly matters). When I first moved to LA and Time Warner was giving me the run-around about getting internet at home, I spent a lot of time here using their (very slow) wi-fi. If I had known at this point that all Whole Foods have free wireless, I would totally have been there. Alas, I spent a lot of time here (which is hard, considering they are open a random smattering of hours--and are closed on Sunday! What? Why are almost all LA libraries closed on Sunday???) and I spent even more time circling their parking lot. This is where I first gave someone the finger the first time for stealing my parking space. An old lady in a jag. I considered ramming her too, I had been circling that long. And I'm not some snotty ho-ha about parking. I'd gladly park far away and truck it on foot to my destination. But not here, at the Palms-Rancho Park Branch of the LA Public Library. Because their location at Overland and the I-10 means there's no street parking around. So you are stuck circling the fairly large lot which is always full, as it's shared with the park & rec center or whatever. Finally, the library is nice inside, but as I'm equidistant to the Mar Vista branch, I typically head there. Palms-Rancho Park has bitchy old ladies and too many freaking kids. read more
