We had always walked through and explored on our own, but the tour gave us great information and my 7th year old son was engaged and excited to ask questions. This last time we went we explored a new place, the children's garden which also has a train that runs occasionally. Unfortunately we missed the train but they had a little house that had a kitchen and my son enjoyed playing in it. All in all, this place is a great place to come and explore nature. I dont even know how many times the words " OMG I want that plant" came from my mouth but I would guesstimate about 1,000 There is a gift shop on campus; but I showed a lot of restraint in not purchasing anything. Lots of fun community events too. My favorite picture is in the main museum building, a group of cowboys on Hwy 101. A TALE OF TWO SISTERS ______________________________________…read more(...And The Enchanted 'Cado Seed) ONCE UPON A TIME, in a land far far away called California... there were 2 sisters named Anne and Mary Spriggins. They were spry, poor millennials living with a dairy cow and 2 iPhones in a farm cottage. The cow's milk was their only current #side-hustle. When dairy milk lost its market appeal to Almond; Soy; Cashew; Coconut; and Cat Milk, Anne asks Mary to sell the cow at the Mercado. On the way, Mary's Uber driver named Ben (along with ride-along: Jerry) offered 3 magic beans in exchange for the dairy cow, and Mary makes the trade. When she arrives home without any money, Anne becomes angry, throws the beans to the ground, and sends Mary to bed without her iPhone. During the night, the magic beans cause a gigantic beanstalk to grow outside Mary's window. The next morning... because duh... the girls climb the beanstalk to a place high in the sky. There, they find an enormous castle and sneak in to take some selfies [#pics or it didn't happen]. But Mary was #woke to a childhood tale about a scary Giant... cannibalism... and larceny gone wrong... so they overcome their #FOMO and climb back down the beanstalk as fast as they can. When they reach the ground, they cut down all but a 3-foot length of beanstalk with an axe. The next morning, giant avocados started blossoming from the remaining stalk, and the sisters called their avocado farmer friend Jason Mraz to help them harvest. Each time they picked one, a new one would grow. They could now have Avocado toast for life! YAAAAAS. Jason explained that the beans from the Uber driver were from the Hass Mother Tree of La Habra Heights -- and all Hass avocados trace their roots back to her. Upon arrival we were greeted, given a succulent and tickets. The Dickinson Family atrium is a fabulous space with hanging plants and so many examples of indoor/rainforest plants. We walked the entire grounds!! My fitness tracker said it took me two hours to walk two miles- I kept stopping to take pictures and read the plant placards. We walked around though many different gardens. From the rainforest of Africa and past the waterfall to the desert area with native plants. There was an example of a Native American village complete with hut and grinding stone. We hiked up to the look out point where you can see the Pacific Ocean. There is a children's garden, playhouse, and a sandbox with toys. There are walking trails through out and many benches. I highly recommend bringing water, a hat, sunscreen and snacks. There is a small gift shop with a small selection of snacks. They have a large selection of plants to purchase!!

The women at the front desk kept asking millions questions and expressing unreasonably doubts. Ny kids and I felt like being on lie detector.Very humiliating feeling. After finally being admitted, we left shortly. Our experience were ruined.It was no place for enjoyment. Very bitter,sad feeling... I didn't know people can be so mean at botanical gardens. This woman should work somewhere else,like border patrol or security check point. It would be better for everyone. Never come back to this place.
