If you live in California, there's a good chance you know guac is extra, you put avocado on everything, and you eye roll at anyone who doesn't understand your infatuation with this fleshy fruit. So when I heard about the world's first avocado pop up museum (via Yelp), you already know we got tickets faster than you can say "holy guacamole!" Beginning as something of a guided tour, we listened to Jason Mraz's audio cassette in a group, then proceeded to guess which avocado was ripe, based on how it felt and looked. From here, we were able to venture off on our own to explore the various art installations. We got the opportunity to play cornhole in the avocado's "center," delve into avocado history directly from the Hass family, and discover ways to save the planet and be a better human being! I love the aesthetic and the fact that's it's interactive, great for all ages! Only downfall is the execution. Our tickets were for 1015-1030, but we weren't allowed to enter until almost 11; not sure if this was to avoid getting crowded inside or if they wanted to wait for a larger group of people before they started the tour, but it's not fun waiting outside in nearly 100 degree weather. Truly a California experience, thank you!

Ask the Community - The CADO Avocado Museum Experience

Is this worth the $19 admission fee? Looking at the photos on yelp and insta, it doesn't look very big. How long does it take to get through entire exhibit?

Hi! I’m one of the co-creators, so I’m a bit biased but happy to share what we’ve seen/heard. On average, guests spend about 30 minutes at The CADO over the course of six rooms with interactive, educational and visual installations. Most people are… Read more

For $25 you can get a behind the scenes tour that introduces you to a variety of turtles, snakes, and lizards that call the EcoVivarium home. They also have birthday party visits, host events, and as I learned from my friend Trish, can help teachers get set up with a reptile in the classroom. My first conversation with Susan at the EcoVivarium was heartfelt, as I was calling to see if they might be interested in the donation of our decommissioned aquarium. The setup was only four years old and housed our previous beloved 26 year old fish named Puff that had recently passed away. Susan was kind, expressed her condolences and shared that they would appreciate our donation. Chun P and I met Rachel and Donald on a Sunday and after we brought our items in from the car were treated to meeting some terrific reptiles. Many of the inhabitants at the EcoVivarium have sad stories, some had suffered abuse, some were abandoned, and others were victims of trafficking that were confiscated and brought in by the department of fish and game. Susan has created a safe space and her staff and volunteers give their all to make sure they live a better life. I'm looking forward to visiting again soon and supporting this worthy endeavor!

They do have a handwashing station outside so I appreciate that after the messy play. I also love the art installation, it's big colorful bugs and insects. Would recommend you checking it out.

A huge shoutout to Michele, our party planner, who was incredibly communicative, organized, and thoughtful throughout the entire process. The setup and decor were beautiful, and everything was ready to go when we arrived, which made a big difference when hosting a group of excited kids! The space itself is amazing, with so many engaging, hands-on activities for a wide range of ages (definitely up to around 10). The kids were entertained the entire time. Even better, so many of the parents were raving about the experience and how much their kids loved it, which says a lot. Highly recommend hosting a party here if you're looking for something fun, interactive, and well-organized. We had the best time!

The entrance to the museum is on the side, and at first it seems like you're just going to a store. Well, turns out that's the gift shop section and once you finish circling through the museum you end up back where you started! Anyways, we were able to walk in and get tickets up front. We were shown a video on the foundation of the museum and we had a demonstration on how to utilize the tablet kiosks in front of each section. I thought it was very cool to see especially modern instruments and how they looked in the past. It feels really good to appreciate how far instruments have come and how music has really shaped the human experience. I saw many people of all ages come here and enjoy. My favorite part would definitely be the interactive sections where you get to strum or play with some instruments. I definitely wished I knew how to play some chords! I was super glad to come here as I've never experienced seeing so much musical instruments (old and new) in one place. This museum relies on watching/reading from their smooth and large tablets. David walked us through what each section was and pretty much said we're open to going anywhere around the museum. It was super cool to watch the vids of the instruments in action. I especially loved the interactive aspects!!! Got to play around with some instruments hands-on. More than just guitars and banjos, I got my hands on countless other instruments for the first time!!! I definitely wish to play the wind instruments only bc I played trumpet in highschool but I obviously understand the hygiene issues with that. You get to try out DJ systems, electric drums, harps, and there's even a kids' section!!! Super fun and you'll have a newfound appreciation for music instruments!!!

It helps to personalize all that is taught in classrooms across California. Mission San Luis Rey is one of the prettiest missions that I've visited so far. The parking lot is large, and it also has an overflow to accommodate larger crowds during special events. There is a large, white church that is in the center of the parking lot. Due to its size and proximity, it immediately grabs your attention. Many people begin exploring at the church, but there's much more to see. If you walk to the far left side of the property, you'll see the actual entrance. There is small gift shop as well as a counter where you'll pay your entry fee to explore the museum. One thing that I liked about Mission San Luis Rey is that replicas of various artifacts looked pretty authentic. Also, the backstory for each item was described in detail. The mission was incredibly clean, demonstrating how much pride people take in the presentation of the property. There is a small cemetery adjacent to the church. You can walk around and pay your respects to people who had either a physical or emotional impact on the mission and the community. The grounds are well-maintained and it remains inviting to people who want to explore around. The church is large and inviting. You can purchase candles and place them near the entrance as well as the room off to the side or another room closer to the front of the church. The displays are beautiful and well-lit to draw your attention to details. People maintain a low tone in the church to allow guests to pray, have a moment to themselves, or to make a connection with a higher power. Before you leave, make sure that you stop by the small coffee shop. It's located near the bathrooms near the south side of the property. There is a little gated patio area where you can hang out with friends, family, or even your dog! Mission San Luis Rey is a great place to visit. People are very friendly and quite helpful. When we went to the mission, the weather was perfect and we had a clear view of the area. It was a great experience and I will definitely come back for another visit. I don't know which mission we will visit next, but so far, this is my favorite.
