overall horrible experience would not recommend her to anyone the doctor was more worried if i was a us citizen and whether i came from mexico i am white but i casually went along with her questions. she was very disrespectful anytime i would talk she would mumble words under her breath hinting that she did not want me in that room or finding any help for my injury felt like an interrogation rather than a doctors visit letting me know that my injury cant be helped and before i could suggest something she would try to tell me nothings wrong when clearly i came to her for a check on an injury that obviously not in order. I decided to get myself a local doctor for family practice/general stuff since I don't really have one....my insurance doesn't require a PCP and I hate going to the doctor, but every now and then something stupid like strep throat comes around and you need one. I came in over the summer actually because I had had a persistent sore throat and wanted to make sure it wasn't strep. My appointment was with Dr. McKell, a new practitioner who has been added to the office. She is absolutely amazing, I might add. She's got a wonderful bedside manner, is incredibly friendly, and will actually listen to you and make you feel like your input is valued. Nowadays, that's rare in a doctor. I've been in once more since then and had the same great experience. Dr. McKell is patient, knowledgeable, and helpful. I can't recommend her highly enough. Their new office is located a little ways down Main St (across from Cetrella). The little parking lot off to the side usually has plenty of spaces. The staff is polite and professional, and the waiting room is clean & bright. Reminds me of the down-home doctor offices of my youth. read more

There are few times in my life when I feel a 1 star review is in order. I have had a few very annoying encounters with Dr. Carrington, which made me not want to see her again, but obviously none of them made me want to make a negative review so I'll just describe what pushed me over the edge. Dr. Carrington misdiagnosed my husband -- who is in his 30s -- with Shingles. Not only was he misdiagnosed, but she did not order the correct tests or prescribe the correct medication for the diagnosis she gave. She told him he was not to worry about being contagious at all and he would get better... Result: Two weeks later, I have what he has. My husband is unable to walk due to his outbreak. We visit a dermatologist and find that he has Impetigo, which is extremely contagious and easily fixable, especially if caught in beginning stages. We both have to take antibiotics (which I hate) and we both take time off work -- him due to his immobility and me due to the fact that i work closely with people. Seriously... If you don't know what the diagnosis is, at least have the decency to refer to someone who does. She seriously pulled out a picture book of rashes and GUESSED and then did terrible follow-up. Due to her misdiagnosis, many people were in danger of contracting Impetigo even though we took proper precautions. This could have been a very simple issue. Instead, 6 weeks later, we are still recovering. In the end, she refunded our fee (not the insurance), but no apology and she wouldn't even speak to us directly. read more

We moved here recently and found Dr. Carrington. It's great to be a person (and not a chart number). Dr Carrington takes the time to get to know you, she's pragmatic and effective. She can usually accommodate same day appts (very unlike our former doc.. who would send us to Urgent Care and didn't have any openings for a week or more). Five stars aren't enough!!! read more

I had been a patient of Dr. Carrington for years, since Dr. Penrose retired. I cannot recommend her, although she was terrific when she worked with Dr. Penrose. First of all, I had a prolapsed bladder and Dr. Carrington was laughing at me when she discovered it. Second, I have Parkinson's disease and never did Dr. Carrington tell me that I could receive treatment for my back pains. Also, she had me go through a lot of senseless testing. Finally, and the last straw, she misdiagnosed a rash on my face as Rosacea when in fact it was a condition that ultimately could have resulted in me having sepsis. Dr. Carrington is an incompetent physician with delusions of grandeur. She does not care about her patient's well being or the patients themselves. read more

Dr. Carrington (should be CAREington!) is an amazing, dedicated doctor. Even though she is practically the doctor for the entire Half Moon Bay community, she always immediately dials in to whatever your need is and gives you her full attention. She also is very community minded. She led the volunteer medical staff care at the Half Moon Bay International Marathon and was incredibly dedicated to ensuring the athletes received all the care they needed. We'd trust her with our life---and have for many years. read more

Like others, I don't usually feel compelled to leave a one star review, and I gave Dr. Carrington every chance to apologize and redeem herself but she refused, trying to shift blame to me and my "anger". The most disturbing part is how she changes her stories to the point of lying.. Dr. Carrington became my doctor when the local clinic closed down. Over the years her manner has prompted me to look for other doctors, but I never went through with it, mostly because it is convenient to have a doctor in town, and it's a hassle to change all the insurance work. This doctor has lorded my needed medications and prescriptions over me, withholding them and forcing me to make unnecessary appointments on more than one occasion. When her staff calls to say I have to come in, they have fabricated and false reasons why it was necessary. Any questioning as to why I needed an appointment was met with a rude and condescending interruptions of "ma'am?" She won't even give you cough syrup unless you make another unnecessary appointment. At one point she told me she wasn't willing to fill a prescription because she could get sued for the side effects. Then she said she couldn't give it to me because of my age. Later she told me she was never against the medication and took it herself. All very confusing. I ran out of the prescription and suffered ill side effects. I wrote her a long letter explaining my position and she didn't bother answering, just said, "Good luck" After this last fiasco, I did change to a doctor over the hill. The Dr was friendly but I will not be going back to her for 3 reasons: 1. She said that I definitely had the flu but would not give me any antibiotics or anything other than over the counter suggestions. She literally said that I would need to have 'chunky neon green mucus coming out of me' for a prescription. I was there with my 5 month old baby. I can't afford to let it get that bad before I get some help. 2. She said that one OTC suggestion wouldn't work for me b/c I'm nursing. Well, I'm not nursing. She didn't ask, just assumed and then gave me a judgmental 'oh' when I said that I wasn't. I did NOT appreciate that. 3. The examination rooms are a disaster. Papers and files stacked everywhere. Very disorganized and was not a good first impression of a doctor with their act together. My drive to San Mateo was worth it when my other GP promptly wrote me a prescription for antibiotics, which he said I needed... because I have the flu. read more

I so appreciate Dr. Carrington and the office in downtown Half Moon Bay! They will see you on short notice, they care about your issue and dig down to its root then fully address it, and they are friendly to boot. It was good to read Katie M's review and see that Dr. Carrington did not cave in to pressure from an ill-informed patient, trying to get antibiotics when they were not appropriate. Get a grip, Katie - the flu is a virus. Anti-b's do not help a virus. Chunky neon green mucous indicates a bacterial infection. Anti-b's do help that, but you did not have one. Okay, so the doc is growing on me. Went a week or so before Christmas for an ill visit and upon seeing me, she actually gave me a hug. Plus her front house staff was very courteous and made a big effort to have some chats with me. Maybe next time I'll let them know about the post card offense.. Shortly after I started seeing Dr. Carrington-Tribble, she spotted a problem and insisted I get it tested immediately. I was robustly healthy and thought she was being alarmist, and I usually have little tolerance for worry-wort docs advocating silly tests, but I went along with her. Saved. My. Ass. Literally. Now I listen to her cautions very closely. Two other things have impressed me immensely about Dr. C-T. One is the quality of her referrals. Every specialist she has sent me to has been absolutely top class. The other is her extra effort... she responds quickly and checks back on you. She called at 7:30 one evening with the result of an absolutely crucial hospital test. She said she was working late on records, but I think she was just hanging around the fax machine watching for the result so I wouldn't have to pass a sleepless night waiting. And I was a pretty new patient, not an old friend. Now I'll live to be an old friend. And while everybody's got an opinion, I'd certainly trust this doc before I'd trust an anonymous one making unsubstantiated statements and rather bizarrely posting the Hippocratic Oath. I have been a patient of Dr. Carrington's for a few years (since she set up her office in Half Moon Bay). She is (very) smart (medically and with people), is well read about new treatments, drugs and preventive medicines, and has a very caring manner. I like her so much that I moved to San Diego and still have her as my primary physician. I will make the trek up to the Peninsula just for my annual checkups. She is fantastic, and I've recommended her to many of my friends, and they have all loved her and her partner. I highly recommend her, for my life and health, she's the best around. read more

I don't understand the positive reviews on her.. Dr. Penrose was my main Doctor, but on occasion I had made the mistake of seeing Carrington. Dr. Carringon asked me if I had use a breathing machine before, and I said no. She then proceeded to take a cap lid off of a cup, poor liquid in it, and then put it back on. Later when I looked at my bill she charged $25 for that "training session" which I found insulting. She has a tendency to order blood tests, etc.. without telling you what they are for. I had a sore muscle in my leg once and I knew it was not broken and she insisted I get xrays, of course she charged me to read the report. She has also told me I need to be on a medication for 6 weeks only to write the prescription up for 2 weeks. Then when I called the office they said to have the pharmacy fax the refill request which I did. Then Carrington informs me that I have to make another appointment, which I do.. and then all she does is fill out a prescription form and I had to pay for that. Once Penrose left, Carrington's office started sending blood test forms to me, calling me up for referrals, etc.. so she is obviously looking to make more money on Penrose patients... On another occasion my wife went to her.. and we wanted her heart checked. Carrington said that it was not her heart. One week later my wife almost died in the hospital because of complications on her heart, and we were lucky we made it in time by going to the ER. Carrington new she was in the hospital but never made a phone call to see how she was doing. I think one of the reasons the health care industry is in such a mess is due to people like Carrington, who in my opinion is on the edge of the line of dishonesty. Dr. Carrington might be great for adult patients, but even though she is a family doctor, she is not patient enough to take care of small children. We've been going to her for the last two years, but after my last visit, I am pretty sure I have had enough. My two year old cries every time we go to see her. He is scared of her, because he got some shots there when he was one. Basically, he acts like a two year old. She told me that she had never seen that, but with my kid. She told me that I didn't discipline my child right. She also told me that she couldn't examine him when he was crying and that we were wasting her time. Pamela Carrington is a negligent doctor with a God complex. Avoid her if you wish to be treated humanely. Though, she does pick and choose who she will be polite to. I drove my friend there who has complex health issues and is a kind, polite person. He has documented history. She chooses to treat him as though he is a nuisance. She further has exercised her power by discussing his problems to her staff including her receptionist and has even tried to slander my friend to other doctors only to be shut down when these colleagues acknowledged and confirmed that my friend is, indeed, in need of medical attention. She's only worth your dime if you're healthy and from a background that she deems worthy. Otherwise, you'll be treated like a Bangkok whore with a bad case of trench mouth and a heroin problem. read more

If I could give ZERO stars I would. I found our first visit was strained and awkward and I questioned my choice. I had asked for a complete exam as it had been 3-4 yrs but it seems this "D.O." likes to churn patients for $$. Three visits into this and still no exam. It's false advertising to claim to be an MD. As a practicing MD with 9 MD partners and 27 yrs of experience, I have a good sense of competency. The incompetency started at the front door and was evident at each step of the long unfruitful process. Having to go across the hill for standard labs to be drawn is for the birds, get a phlebotomist already. Having a front office who does not observe HIPAA and other privacy laws to criminal, having an assistant incapable of taking accurate vitals is negligent. I took the Hippocratic Oath and pledge when I entered practice, maybe D.O's. don't ascribe to the same standards: (not to cause hurt or damage, in short "do no harm"). I read the other reviews listed here, this issue seems to be a common theme. It seems Carrington runs Hot or Cold, I guess as she determines your worth $$.... I wont be back. I am finding a physician who is both competent and caring and if I ask for an exam it gets done timely. Dr. Carrington has been my doctor for many years and my primary physican other than surgeon and cardiologist through heart surgery. I can't recommend her too highly. She's thorough, bright, approachable, skilled, and doesn't make you wait an hour to see her. In my experience, she's as good as it gets and we're lucky to have her in Half Moon Bay. read more

My family and I have been treated by Dr. Carrington for over 7 years, and she has been my daughter's pediatrician since she was born in 2005. She is the most professional, caring, capable and friendly doc I've ever had. Even my husband goes for his routine and follow-up visits without complaint, and he has spent a lifetime avoiding doctors. Dr C. is always gentle and attentive to my daughter, who now treats her like family ("Mommy, when can we go see Dr. Carrington again?"). She's smart, attentive, willing to take extra time to figure out a diagnois or new treatment plan, and has a fabulous blend of traditional MD smarts, alternative medicine knowledge, and just plain great bedside manner. And when it comes to giving kids shots -- she's a rockstar: calm, caring and quick. Wouldn't go anywhere else. read more
