Called in today and got the most delicious sandwich! Seriously me and the BF could have shared. Loved the bread! I highly recommend...

Service was atrocious and non-existent for asking for the tip up front, 25% of course. If you go here, stick to the rule of "If I order standing up I'm not tipping." We tipped well and it did not ensure good or prompt service at all. I wish I could have taken back my tip after the lousy meal and experience. When we ordered I asked for two cups of ice water to fill our bottles and she brought us one and said she couldn't bring another. She also made us come pickup our food but brought others theirs. It was as if after 5 minutes she forgot who ordered what. Mind you, we were the only couple in here when we arrived, a small group of 4 outside, no one inside. We had three groups come in after us with about 10 people total. The girl taking orders at the counter acted as if any requests were a complete inconvenience to her in an empty restaurant. We ordered two sandwiches, an Italian and a custom gluten-free sub. The Italian was the worst Italian sandwich I have ever had in my life. The pickled onions and fresh meats were good, but the giant chunks of mozzarella and missing oils, vinegar and peppers really stood out as making it incomplete. It was not toasted at all. The gluten free sub was super dry and part of it inedible. We ordered a large side of jalapeño popper potato salad....no idea why it was called that...there wasn't a single jalapeño in it and I assumed some type of cream cheese...it was just really bad potato salad, we fed most of it to the seagulls with the super dry parts of the gluten-free sub. We had to go up and ask for additional silverware and napkins...when we picked up our food we got one spoon and nothing else. Again, asking for napkins and another spoon seemed like a huge hassle for the staff. When we were done we weren't sure if this was a "clean up after yourself" place or not so we bussed our own table...what was the tip for again? Anyways, bad experience. Terrible parking lot for motorcycles as it's mostly deep gravel. We won't be back. read more

So we met this guy Nick at a local fish market last year. While standing around, we struck up a conversation about the local fish and he was very informative about what to buy and how to prepare it. He was there just shopping for himself. He let us know he owned a place called Pamlico Deli and that he did a weekly Thursday Wine and Dinner Night and that he'd love it if we came by. We were on the tail end of our trip and couldn't make it then but put it on our list for this year's stay. So glad we did. Nick does different themes as we found out, like Surf and Turf night, Italian night, Prime Rib night, etc. We came for Barbeque night. With that we got a very tasty BBQ Buffet paired with I believe 5-6 well thought out wine tastings. Everything was exceptional including the folks we sat with. Just a very welcoming place and it was great to meet some people and get their perspective on what makes this part of the OBX special to them. Prior to the dinner, Nick did an introduction to explain the wine choices for the night. With my wife and I being complete amateurs at wine tasting, he made us feel very comfortable about how it works. He also told us about some of his personal life and the charitable work that his business does especially for the HIFC, which supports local Breast Cancer awareness. There were opportunities to help contribute such as a raffle and a silent auction. Our favorite menu items were the Jalapeno Sausage, Brisket and Potato Salad and the Carrot Cake was the best we've had. Our favorite tasting was the Rose. That being said, everything else was exceptional. Nick, if you are reading this, just want you to know how comfortable you and your fantastic staff made us feel and what a great place you have. We are looking forward to making this part of our annual trips there. read more

We love the Pamlico Deli. We stopped in early in the week for deli sandwiches. All the items are fresh great portions and delicious. They have a side area where you can enjoy wine and select draft beers. The ambiance is warm and inviting. We stopped back later that week for Nick's special Thursday dinner. Reservation only but a great dinner paired with Nick's choice of wine tasting. This past week we enjoyed the Prime rib and it was excellent. This place is absolutely wonderful. From the delicious deli sandwiches to the specialty Thursday dinner pairings with wine (reservation only), this place does not disappoint. Nick is super friendly and the ladies that serve the wine are personable and really know their stuff. Food has always been top notch and we love all the beautiful artwork on the walls from a local artist. They often have live music too which adds a nice touch to the dining area. A few months ago we were staying on Ocracoke and took a short little exciting day trip up to Hatteras. After taking in the sights and seeing the lighthouse we were on our way back to the ferry and a little hungry. Pamlico Deli was the first thing we saw so we pulled in! It was definitely in that dead time between lunch and dinner so I was not worried that the parking lot was relatively sparse, but I was a little surprised that there was no one in the deli except for the two employees! They were very quick to offer to help us and read through a few of the options on the menu for us. They were out of a few of the options (our fault with our timing) but were able to offer some suggestions of substitutions. We ordered a Reuben and a basic Smoked Turkey and Provolone sandwich, then sat back and relaxed at a large table inside. I really liked the atmosphere. It is nothing fancy, but just a nice space to sit back and relax. They also offer many wine options and had some small plates you could share with wine, I think it would be a great place to sip on some wine and wind down from the day. Very soon after our food was ready and we dug in. It was probably one of the better sandwiches I have had in a long time and have certainly thought about it since wishing I could have another. Both were great, but the smoked turkey really set that sandwich apart! It had a very distinctive flavor over your typical roasted turkey breast. I should also mention they were both VERY large. We each ate half of our sandwiches and saved the rest to take to the beach the next day! Pamlico Deli is a fantastic spot to relax and grab a bite or even to grab to go if you are headed to the beach to to get on the ferry! read more

Wanted to get an easy meal to bring back to the hotel, so we stopped here. They made us a personalized charcuterie board, which was really good. The interior of this place is very nice and not at all deli-like, so it would be a great place to eat in as well. Large wine selection and local beer selection. Friendly service. Slightly pricey. If you are visiting Hatteras Island I can't recommend enough Pamlico Deli! You walk in and the smell literally consumes you. We knew at first sniff this was an outstanding decision. We met Sam (I think that was his name!), the owner who visited with us, asked where we were from and was generally incredibly friendly. He let us know they make homemade mozzarella daily (?!?!?!), smoke their own turkey, and have the best Reuben around. We were picking up sandwiches to take to the beach, otherwise we would have stayed for a beer or glass of wine, and apparently they have wine tastings on Thursday night (what's not to love?). My husband had the Italian and I tried the Hwy 12, minus banana peppers. We threw these in our cooler and headed to Frisco Beach. A couple of hours later we dug in, and I can confidently say this is one of the best sandwiches I've ever had in my life. The bread was incredible. The aioli was perfection. The jalapeño cheese added the perfect kick! My husband said his Italian sandwich was second only to Osteria All'antico Vinaio in Florence (literally the best sandwich shop in Florence/All of Italy). Oh man this place is good and the menu is extensive! One sandwich provides two meals for me so I'm not sure I'll ever make it through the menu. Especially when I'm absolutely stuck on the Italian! It's soooooo good! The pickled red onions and homemade mozzarella are just over the top!!! I've also had the Turkey bacon and Brie sandwich. Can't recall the name! The baked potato salad is probably my favorite potato salad ever! The owner is super nice as well as the rest of the crew! If I had one tiny complaint it would be the overly generous slather of Mayo. So much Mayo! But that's probably just a personal issue. I have to remember to say easy on the Mayo but the sandwiches are so good I don't even care that much. read more

We stumbled on the Pamlico Deli on our first full day in Hatteras, after driving around to discover that all the other lunch places had closed at two. We were the only customers, which was not surprising considering the time of year and the fact that they had a hurricane (Dorian) come through 10 days before. My wife and I chatted with the staff for a bit, finally ordering our sandwiches as well as a piece of cheesecake and half a pound of dill pickle pasta salad. The pasta salad was, as the server described, "strangely delicious." The sandwiches came out just after we finished the pasta salad, wrapped in the traditional butcher paper, and twice as big as expected! My wife had the Nicholas, and I picked the Soprano. They were stuffed with meat, cheese, and toppings and both were incredibly delicious. My wife and I are both big eaters, but we agreed we had to wrap the second half of the sandwiches up and save them for dinner. I would strongly recommend this deli, and we will visit again! read more

Hubba Hubba!!!! Ran into Pamlico for a sammie and fell in love. Got fantastic sandwiches and a bottle of Rose' prosecco recommended by the owner. He tucked a Christmas catering menu in our bag and we decided to order (at 2pm Dec 24th!) They ended up staying late for us (THANK YOU) to fill our order of Prime Rib, Baked Brie, Cornbread Stuffing, and bread Pudding. I'm writing this review as I sit at their little wine bar and the owner serves us a little dessert treat while we wait (never-mind WE'RE keeping HIM late). Stopped in here while looking for a grab-and-go lunch for two. My boyfriend and I split the Soprano. The family running the deli was great - super friendly during COVID, and the very nice lady working front of house was following full safety protocol. The half Soprano was very filling, tasting close to the muffuletta from New Orleans without being overpowering with the olive salad. I loved the bread - it definitely tasted super fresh! Took us about 10 minutes around lunchtime to get our sandwich, and they had some great local brews on tap. I also picked up a tub of fresh pimento cheese, something a Northeasterner like me had never had, and it was great as a dip as well as a sandwich addition to make at home. Looking forward to the wine tastings next season when socializing (a little more) can hopefully return to normal. read more

Stopped by for something to eat after arriving in town. How could I be so lucky. I had the nicholas sandwich. I swear that was the best sandwich that I've ever had. Do yourself a favor, go there.
