I happened to sit next to the owner of Gaia Salonspa on a flight, and she convinced me to see Hannah and told me the wax is intended for people with sensitive skin. I have been a regular client of Hannah's for three years for waxing, and tried a facial with her as well. She is very professional, makes me feel comfortable, and has a lot of experience and training. When I found out a few weeks ago that she decided to start her own studio, I was excited for her (and also because it is down the street from my house). Today I visited Hannah for my first appointment at Luminous Esthetic Studio, and it was a great experience. She has a private studio within the Allure Salon, which is quaint and decorated very well. After the appointment, I paid with a chip card reader connected to her phone, and set up future appointments which immediately were texted to me as confirmations. She said she "had time" and went ahead, but then I was charged for it anyway. On top of that, I asked for a dark wine red and ended up with a super dark plum/purple that looks almost black in the light, which wasn't what I wanted. What really bothered me was the lack of communication. No one sat me down and explained what the extra services or costs would be, which would have let me make an informed decision. If I had known, I would have chosen differently. Instead, I left with a color I'm not happy with and a bill three times higher than expected. I also felt uncomfortable during the appointment because the stylist made negative comments about another client and her younger sisters. Overall, it was an unprofessional and disappointing experience, and I wouldn't recommend this salon if you're looking for transparency or customer care.

When she originally handed me the mirror to look at them, I asked to get a little more taken off - and then when she gave me the mirror the second time, I'm not sure if it was because my eyebrows were red from the waxing or what, but I didn't notice a huge difference... until I got home and noticed that they were very different. So I had to end up plucking a lot myself when I got home. I know the ownership has changed hands sometime within the last year or two - and I'm not sure if that has something to do with it or not. It took them a while to respond. They finally did and I made it very clear I wanted a full set, even sent pictures of their work. I get there and not only it took a long time to do my lashe's, like over 3 hours.... maybe practice a little more because my lash tech in Houston do them a lot better and way less time, but not only was the time despicable but when she finally was done the lashes was so thin and not full at all. I truly wanted a refund. I started coming here after everywhere else I tried caused my nails to break constantly and my skin to break out. I love the pedicure area in the back as it is tranquil and not crowded usually. I have been getting regular shellac manicures here which has saved my nails! They now grow and never break! Avalon uses CND nail products, which are great quality. I own several CND lotions and scrubs plus regular CND polish, which does not require a base coat. The gel though is not harsh on my nails and it is not terrible to get off. The prices are very reasonable too, and the atmosphere is nice. I am so glad I found Avalon, and it just happens to be very close to my neighborhood.
