At one time this was one of my favorite restaurants in Lafayette. We would always look forward to trying several of their unique dishes while enjoying their lovely wine selection. But last night was different, something was off. We ordered the calamari which has always been one of our favorites, this time it was greasy and overly salty. The fois gras although cooked well was placed on top of this really sweet compote that overwhelmed the entire dish. The special was duck risotto which had a creamy texture with nice pieces of duck, however it too was a little salty. The service was good. read more

Pamplona is easily one of the best restaurants in Lafayette. They take pride in putting out a beautiful mix of flavors. From the fabulous cocktails they craft with their own tinctures and infusions, to the exquisitely prepared entrees and fresh bright salads, I have yet to be disappointed. I don't mind spending a bit more money if the meal is really delicious! I prefer to go out less often and spend a little more. Try the duck fat fries with aioli, the roasted beet and goat cheese salad. The cassiulet is good too. Have lunch there- they have some $10 Specials. If you're looking for a refreshing, sophisticated change from the plate lunch rice and gravy or etouffée give Pamplona a try. read more

I worked as a chef in some of the best restaurants in New Orleans, so I was ready to tear this restaurant apart because all of the hype that was created prior to opening. And I have never been too impressed with Partner Willian Anesly. But I was pleasantly suprised with this restaurant. There were some very inventive dishes. I really enjoyed the Suckling pig. The skin was super crisp, served with a very rich jus. Beef Carpaccio was very nice, as well as the Duck fat fries... nothing better than anything fried in duck fat... Moved to lafayette from LA for school, been here over 2 years now...trust me, this is the best place in lafayette period.

I was raised in Madrid and know very well Spanish kitchen. If you're expecting to have tapas as if you were in Spain this isn't the place, however it resembles the style with its own accent and delivers a very good food and excellent service. Working in Lafayette today, and turned to yelp for a lunch recommendation. We decided on this place. If it's your first time, like it was for us, parking can be a challenge. So pay attention and look for the lot that is designated for this place. It Is on the opposite side of the street. First to our table was their version of ceviche. Its made with a cocktail sauce base, and is very good. The horseradish was perfect. Second we had, duck fat fries. All I can say is WOW. I am going to crave that for a long time. Next up pork belly flat bread. I am not a fan of blue cheese. So I will skip this one next time. But if you like blue cheese, have at it. Then came the braised pork cheeks . This is a mediocre dish. Could have done without it. Then the Mac and smoke Gouda with bacon. Another WOW. Do not miss it, trust me. And we finished with the coffee. A great finish. To a great lunch. We've been here many times and have always enjoyed it. However, tonight's visit will be our last. We came in on Friday night with no reservations and figured we would have to wait. Went to the bar to grab a round of drinks while waiting for our table. The hostess(who was very sweet) ended up moving things around and getting a table set up quicker than expected. We had a baby seat with us and there was nowhere to fit this seat at our table. There was not room between the table and booth and the aisle was too narrow to put it on a chair closest to the aisle. The table next to us so kindly offered that we put the seat on the opposite end of their table. We accepted because this was our only option. The server of our table approached her coworker at the server station making rude remarks about this not knowing that I was standing right next to them at the bar. As she greeted our table, I could not let her take care of us all night after hearing the things she had said so we calmly explained that we would be going somewhere different this night. Before leaving I let the GM know that we were disappointed that this situation had happened to which he responded "got it" sarcastically with no eye contact. I should also inform that I have been in the service industry myself for over 10 years and would normally never complain about anything in a restaurant as I am generally very understanding of any mistake that can happen, but this was not ok. We are very disappointed as this was one of the restaurants we really liked in Lafayette but being treated like we are not needed nor wanted in a business is not a good feeling. read more

I've only been once I liked the concept and the atmosphere of the place, it was expensive my only complaint was I got a steak that is cooked in a bag of hot water, it would have been probably been the best steak I had ever eaten had it not been so salty. This is a very lovely tapas restaurant in downtown Lafayette. The ambiance is great; service is wonderful, and the food was good. The shrimp ceviche wasn't a typical ceviche, but the shrimp were good and the sauce was great. A small loaf of bread is not gratis, but at $4 was worth it. Crusty and hot and full of flavor. My only problem was the paella. Paella Valenciana is an "award winning" house specialty, and if you order it, the menu clearly states to expect a wait period of 45 minutes to 1 hour. I had no problem with the wait. My problem was with the paella. I ordered the mixed meat and seafood paella, and the seafood was cooked perfectly. The chicken tasted the best in the lot, but at the end of the day, this was not paella. It was a very good seafood and chicken yellow (saffron?) rice dish, but there was no crust, and without a crust, it is simply not paella. It was cooked in the right pan, and it's their specialty, so where was the crust? It's like ordering a crème brûlée and getting a custard without the burnt crackling topping. It might taste okay, but it's not crème brûlée. If I order an award-winning paella, I don't want yellow jambalaya--I want paella, and Pamplona puts themselves out there as an award-winning paella, so I would expect them to know the difference. Still, I enjoyed the restaurant immensely, and I would most definitely go back. The ambiance was 5/5. The bar was spectacular, and the Old Fashion cocktails were perfect. For drinks alone 5/5 stars. The food was really good, but it was missing the oomph that would put in in a 5 category. I guess I would give it a really high 3 or low 4. So... a solid 4 with everything combined. read more

Everything we had... a disaster.. hot, spicy, salty, sauces were HOT...blah.....could not discern tastes.. and this place is expensive.. non-flavorful cayenne overwhelmes... and VERY disappointing.. Very Poor quality..service good though.. careful, guys.. empinada.. rip off, veggies,, super lousy, shrimp.. not good, buyer beware! This one I rated one star because that is the least one can give.. We didn't enjoy our food or service, but our real problem was that the manager is one of the rudest individuals I've ever dealt with. We tried to let him know what went wrong, and he argued with us and refused to address our concerns. A second manager offered a refund but "changed his mind" because he didn't like our complaints about the food and service. By far the worst customer service I've experienced anywhere, and the food doesn't justify putting up with it at all. I highly recommend staying away. read more

2nd visit & greatly reduced quality of food over 1 yr ago. This time scallops were extremely salty and therefore inedible and much smaller in size than before. They were graciously replaced with an Andalusian stew which also was extremely salty. The chef needs to realize that good ingredients do not benefit from huge amounts of salt. read more

My second favorite place in Lafayette. Get the hangar steak and manchengo salad if you like to avoid fried stuff like I do - both excellent. I like the ciabatta appetizer and flan dessert too - they also have the best coffee in Lafayette !!! Everything on the tapas menu is very small, allowing you to buy 2 or 3 or 4 different options for the price of a full meal and hit every single one of your taste buds. I would not consider Pamplona a traditional tapas bar, at least not like the tapas bars I've been fortunate to experience in other cities in North America. The tapas menu is not extensive and while they offer some unique and delicious tapas plates they are missing some that a tapas-savvy client might expect. They have a talented kitchen staff that may be a bit restrained at noon and for tapas but if you want to taste the talent order from the dinner menu or especially ask about the specials. I had a Mediterranean fish (branzino I think? Don't remember.) that left me asking for more bread to sop up the juices. The fish itself was fresh and perfectly prepared, served whole and gorgeous. I have enjoyed everything I have ordered at Pamplona. My wish would be for a more expanded tapas menu though I understand that this town may not be able to support a proper tapas bar. read more

My wife and I wanted to go to dinner at some place we hadn't eaten before. I found Pamplona Tapas Bar on yelp and it sounded great. In fact, I was surprised I hadn't heard of it before although we don't venture downtown much. Anyway, we went and found both the food and the service very good. We both loved the multiple plates of small portions and the food was totally different than what we are used to eating. I really cannot recommend this restaurant enough! We wanted to throw a surprise baby shower here on Saturday night at 7:00. The service by the staff from the hostess (Amber) to the waiter (Jace) was impeccable. Handling a reservation of 16 by himself, Jace kept our water glasses full and the food and drinks flowing. The restaurant called to confirm the reservation twice, offered an extra table for gifts, and had our table ready when we arrived. Really... In one word "decadent"! My family and I had the opportunity to dine at the restaurant on a Saturday night. As you can imagine it was packed with patrons, but despite the full house, we had superior service. We ordered several small plates, (Morcilla with quail egg, mac and smoked gouda, fried goat cheese, and duck fat fries) which I might add were all delicious! For entrees we ordered the ribeye, filet and garlic shrimp. The steaks were done to perfection and melted in your mouth! One of the best steaks I've ever had! Kudos to the chef, staff and manger Andrew who politely visited everyone in the restaurant to make sure everything was to their satisfaction.
