Walked the blue line to the city - only 15-20 minutes from the port - and although it was packed, we were able to easily get a table as soon as we walked in. Bakery area was full of tasty treats. Huge menu - wife ordered shrimp and I had the Machaca with scrambled eggs, bacon, and the biggest corn tamale I've ever seen, which was covered with cheese and jalapeños. I've had my share of my meals (breakfast and lunch) in past years at Panama restaurants. Usually expect a wait for a table and if you're group of five or more, expect another wait. Food is good, not the best but good enough. My favorite is their desserts Panama restaurants are usually busy especially at cathedral location...it's grand central. The dessert "shop" (pastries and cakes) are my favorite and there's lots to choose from. Love their apple pies and jello bowls. Staff at the pastry shop can use some training in the customer service department. Perhaps start with the basics, "hellos....thank yous." Could be a language barrier but a smile and hello can go a long way. There are a variety of staff that work this area, I can't see why they all come across basic. If you've never been eaten pastries at Panama, give them a try. There has to be something you like. Also, prices are affordable. You will come out with more than one treat read more

My husband and I were on a cruise which stopped in Mazatlán. He asked a taxi driver where we could get a good breakfast. I yelped the restaurant and it had pretty good reviews. We walked from the ship to the restaurant. The restaurant and bakery looked beautiful, but we were sorely disappointed by the food. The service was ridiculously slow. We waited well over 30 minutes for our food to arrive. The refried beans were disgusting. My husband ordered a side of hash browns. They were cold! Nothing tasted good except for the salsa. The tortillas weren't even homemade. This was probably the worst breakfast we've ever had in Mexico. It was horrible!! read more

The food was OK but not fantastic and the service was pretty scattershot. The servers were friendly but we had to keep reminding them of things. Everywhere we go it's a must for me to try the chilaquiles. I tend to order the red sauce and although the red sauce at Panama was good, the green sauce was better! The refried beans were quite pale. I'm thinking because they use navy beans in Mazatlan and not pinto or black beans. I didn't really care for the beans as they were a bit bland. I do regret not buying some pan dulce. Came here on a cruise excursion. The food was excellent! With that said. It took most of our sightseeing time as service was slow. Most disappointing was the rudeness of our server, Nicole. I ordered in English (there was an English menu) and she stared at me until I fumbled around for Spanish words and pointed at pictures. She NEVER came around to our table. I was sketchy of going to this industrial type restaurant, as it is chain in Mazatlan, but it didn't disappoint! The food was AMAZING. We even came here twice for breakfast, second day we were there and the last day we were there. The first time I got El Sinaloense which had chicharrons in salsa ranchera, chilaquiles, eggs (I got them fried) and beans... loved it -- was very tasty! The second time I got Del Maizal - this was my absolute favorite! It had a tamale de elote - fried! YES! Fried! OMG! with sour cream and rajas de chile poblano and poblanos chilaquiles -- the poblano sauce on the chilaquiles was amazing, creamy af. I had never had a fried tamal and i was in love with the crispy on the outside and soft on the inside what a sweet and savory delicacy. Dish had a side a refried beans and slice of panela. Gosh I want some more! Yes come here! Oh and don't forget to get a pastry. I got a pie de guayaba, as that is what they are famous for. Very similar to I-HOP or Denny's in the US. We were hot and walking around the cathedral in old Mazatlán and in need of some food and AC when we found Panama. It was packed on a Saturday morning but very clean and with a large menu. We sat upstairs and ordered breakfast. Note that "pancakes" mean "crepes" and "hot cakes" means "pancakes" so order accordingly. We got hot cakes, scrambled eggs and bacon. I also tried their green juice which was delicious! Service was kind though the person who took our order spoke as little English as we spoke Spanish so we did a lot of pointing at other people's plates to make sure we got what we wanted. How sad to see everyone recommending this place and unfortunately our experience was pretty bad. We walked in and sat down. Apparently this places is both a restaurant and a bakery. There were 3 different people cleaning by mopping, cleaning counters and one at the register. They acknowledged us but ignored us. They not once came to ask for our order or offer us a mw unit anything . Oh and did I say there were no other customers there !!! There was a man cleaning the windows who came inside and saw us but not one person talked to us. I gave it 7 minutes and nothing . Came here on our last day in Mazatlan looking forward to the breakfast unfortunately it only took a bad server to ruin the experience. We were a group of 9 and half of us work in the food industry as servers therefore we understand that being busy and attending big groups can be a challenge. Our server took our drink order about 20 min after we sat down and had a bit of an attitude which I let slide. Drinks were served by the runners and about another 20 min she came back to take our food order. Some of us wanted breakfast which she rudely said we only have lunch then when asked to jump to the ones who wanted lunch to allow time to make another option she rolled her eyes. Every time she was asked a question she answered like if she was annoyed. After taking our order we never saw her again. Runners brought our food which was brought out in three parts . The second and third trays were brought out about 20 min after the first one was brought out so their food got cold. Our food was only lukewarm warm. I managed to stop our waitress to ask for the bill but she never came to ask if we needed anything else or to refill drinks. She did roam our table waiting on the check to be paid but since we were leaving cash I waited until everyone in our party had finished eating to leave the check paid, during which our server was already taking another tables order. Our group noticed the attention received to the other tables around us and the lack of attention to us. I was advised not to tip but I left something since the runners did a great job doing their part and were very friendly, had the server done her part they all would of benefited more since I understand how essential it is to tip and be grateful for good service. We stopped by the restaurant per the recommendation from our tour bus guide. A sampler was recommended and since it was a hot day, we ordered a limonjito and tamarinjin (cold slush drinks). The kid had chicken fingers and fries. Everything was so tasty and service was excellent. In addition, the restaurant is clean, modern, and has a/c to escape Mazatlan's heat and humidity. Great food decent restaurant in the downtown area near the Cathedral. The food was good I say a bit better than average. Everything tasted freshly made. The food was brought out in a very timely matter. The service is a little above average. The reason why I'm giving it four stars is because the restrooms are a bit jacked up. People around the area say the prices are high. Personally I think they were good. Seven of us ate here and it was about $65 for all of us. Which honestly for the food and where we were at I think it was a very reasonable price. We do highly recommend this place also try the pastries. read more
