There was a short wait before we were seated by the host. A table was offered at the back patio but too warm and felt isolated. We decided to stay indoors keeping us cooler with the AC on. Nice indoor atmosphere. I don't thinking I've ever seen the cafe ever not busy. Tables are usually full and staff are everywhere tending to their tables and work areas. Our server Fernanda was attentive and friendly. Our order arrived, along with fresh orange juice drinks. Delicious. We could not be more happier with our breakfast/lunch choices. I repeat, delicious. I wanted to explore a bit, so I walked through the mostly residential area between my Golden Zone hotel (Doubletree) and this Rico Cafe near the Marina. The walk was fine, but honestly it was a bit further than I realized, and there were a couple sections of road with busy traffic that weren't pedestrian friendly. Rico is a chain here, and seems very popular. It has both to-go pastries and specialty coffee, as well as table service for breakfast. This particular location has a nice seating area and is well decorated, but it is weirdly in a sort of strip mall surrounding a gas station -- so you are looking out over the gas pumps. But they do the best they can with it. I had a cappuccino, which was excellent. I also enjoyed the egg benedict florentine, which has bacon as well. There was a bit too much spinach for my liking, but it was easy to take some off, and the hollandaise had great flavor. I did not try them, but their pastries looked great as well. I would definitely do this over a Starbucks. Staff was friendly, and I am glad I checked it out. read more

My dad is a big coffee guy and he said his hot coffee was the best he's had in Mexico! I got a Frappuccino and it was good, but nothing extraordinary. The chilaquiles I ordered we're amazing and the plate was huge. Can't wait to visit Mazatlan again and visit this cafe! read more

This place was awesome! We had the Rico's Granita frappe, Fruiti-Rico frappe and carrot juice- they were all fabulous! Food- we tried the Rico's burrito, egg burrito with sausage, banana berry blintz, chocolate waffle and the fruit salad! All were great, but the chocolate waffle was the least favorite. Also the egg burrito wasn't anything special, tastes just like you can get anywhere or even make at home. When in Mexico, try something new and I highly recommend the Rico's burrito! My family of 5 was more than stuffed and all of it cost about $40 with tax and tip. read more

Rico's is a great place to hang out any time of day or night. They have a full menu of cafe food such as breakfast sandwiches in the morning and various lunch sandwiches but what they excel at are the coffee drinks and pastries/muffins. They roast their coffee fresh onsite and have every type of cold and hot coffee drink you would want. The staff are all very friendly and service is good. Expect to have to wait for a table during peak times and it's always packed in the evening from 8-10pm it seems. I like the Cafe Mexicano which is coffee, Mexican chocolate chips and whipped cream. The blended Frappe is also very good. They have many types to choose from such as Chocolate Banana or Oreo. Outdoor seating is the way to go but there is indoor seating if you want a booth and not a table like outside. I usually stop here every evening after dinner for a coffee. 4 stars The song for this review is "The Coffee Song", by Frank Sinatra. Just substitute Brazil for Mexico and it's perfect! read more

So we actually have been to two of the locations in Mazatlan. One for breakfast...waffles and crepes.... One for dinner...taco trio and Arreche for the hubs. We had two of their signature martinis (excellent), followed by a mojito (decent) and a berry something or other. Great meal and location for people watching. read more

We visited Rico's twice in our trip. Both times the food was really good. We enjoyed the avocado toast, omelettes and paninis. The coffee was pretty good as well. I would recommend the coco latte, any of the avocado toasts, the birria omelette (although we wished there was more meat in it) and the California panini. read more

My husband and I have enjoyed this cafe for many years. It's my go to breakfast spot when we are in Mazatlan. Neither of us drink coffee so my review is only of the food and service. A lovely cafe across the street for the hotel we staid at. The staff here all speak a good amount of English that compensates for my lack of Spanish. They roast coffee in house and sell it there. I recommend picking some up to take home. And the good is great. They are very willing to modify things for any allergies. My only complaint is that they were oddly against me wanting a 8oz American and insisted that a 12oz was the only small size. I finally got them to give me it on my last two days and it was good. A nice sharp espresso flavor with no need to add much extra. Wish I could order some in the states. read more

I visited Nov 28, 2020. As much as I wanted for this place to be good, it wasn't. I ordered the fruit, yogurt and granola plate. The yogurt was delicious the granola as well. The small portion of fruit that was not overly ripe was also good but 85% of the fruit on the plate was too ripe and not good at all. Besides that I found 2 hairs on my fruit, the 1st one I let slide and didn't mention it but then I found the second and I had to speak up. The waiter took one of the hairs and said he would be back. Best coffee hands down in Mazatlán. A cappuccino or a latte takes a little longer than your average but its worth it. Best coffee I've had since Costa Rica. Worth the wait. Ive had breakfast there. The spinach eggs benny was good, especially for Mazatlán were its hard to find real hollandaise . My friends had breakfast wrap which should come with potatos or some type of filler as they wont fill you on their own. Air conditioning and strong wifi. Great service in english. Rico's in the Golden Zone across from The Inn at Mazatlan is more than an upscale coffee cafe but a trendy & friendly place to relax, catch up on email and relax. I have been coming to Mazatlan for over 30 years! Discovering Ricc's 10'years ago when it was just a small coffee cart was a blessing. Now they have two locations (Golden Zone across from Inn de Mazatlan and now in the marina.) They roast their own code beans sourced throughout Mexico I there own roaster inside the lobby. You can order everything from traditional Mexican style coffee, Cappuchino, Latte's, Chai, Italian sodas to Ice blended Frappe's. they make homemade Painni's, Waffles, French Toast and one lets. Their menu always has surprises. Homemade desserts are available although all I have ever had is the rich brownies. drinks cost under 4-USD. There is seating inside for those that like air conditioning and free wifi! Another plus is they have clean bathrooms and no flies to distract you . Nice ambience with music. some nights they even have live music. this is a place to come whether you are a local or a tourist . This is my second visit during my stay with my wife. First off service here is subpar. The waiters don't seem to pay attention to detail in service like other places we have visited. The only reason this place gets two stars is free wifi and decent coffee. The cooks here have no concept of timing. They had a table of 10 before us and we waited 40 min for breakfast items. My wife's bagel was terrible because it was left under a heat lamp the crepe was ok but the kiwi was not ripe. The only shining star was the brioche french toast and coffee drinks. We won't be coming back here on our next visit. I know locals like this place and we heard great things about it. I hope this helps other travelers coming to Mazatlán. Thought I was going to have mediocre espresso out here, boy was I wrong. One of the best, creamiest espresso shots I've had. I usually have 4 shots at Starbucks but here 2 will do. Delicious and strong. Their Mocha Mexicana is really good as well. Really sweet though. Also had a Mexicano which is coffee with whipped cream and chocolate chips on top.
