Bland and not very good. Had the Fajita Burrito and very few vegetables mostly bland rice and bland and chewy chicken. They also charge a service fee even when paying with cash but don't tell you until you receive your bill, which is against MN state law. I forgot to take pictures of the food! Next time! The food is different than the typical Mexican restaurants that I have been but it is very good. The servings are very large I had a fajita burrito and my wife had a chili relleno. I think we had a bit of a language barrier with the waitress and I found the menu a little difficult to understand but that won't stop us from going back. My wife thought the Mexican food was better than any place she has been so far. i regret not having stopped here before!! we have been driving past this restaurant for years and have missed out on great food and service for way too long! i have been craving fajitas for days and we were running errands and my hubby stopped here. everything was delicious! the freshly made guacomole was amazing, and my craving was more than satisfied for lunch and again for supper with the food i could not finish! we had the best wait staff we have had in years. it was very quiet and were told that they were struggling like many other places with the currant issues going on in our state. i highly recommend this for the unique decor and the amazing food and service. we will be going out of our way to visit again soon!! thank you so much for the awesome lunch date! read more

I used to work at the Scooters right next this location (right on top of it actually ) before I moved to St. Paul and we LOVE the workers here!! Scooters is a new location to Monticello and unfortunately they built it righhhtttt next to the Pancho, so when we have a lot of cars in line, when you're inside of Pancho, that's all you see is the drive through. We will usually bring some coffee over to the workers to compensate that we are right in their yard! And in return they give us food back They are the best neighbors and so friendly! The reviews made me leary. But I was SO SURPRISED!! Came in at 7pm on a Friday night. There was a decent crowd but no wait. We were seated immediately. The building is older but its clean. Everyone was friendly and helpful. Our server, Rodrigo was so kind and had such great attitude. He was one of the best I've had. He genuinely made our time enjoyable. The food!! It's was way better than I expected. I'm from Chicago and there is a taqueria every two blocks. I feel I've got a good gage when it comes to Mexican cuisine. This place nailed it. I ordered the special, quesabirria. Flavorful with lean meat and cheese, fried in hand pressed corn tortillas--you dip in the consumme. I wanted to make sure they knew how good this was so they can keep making it! Also, we had steak tacos in corn tortillas. The meat was good, the cilantro fresh. We have passed by this place many times, but had never stopped. The patio was very inviting on the first nice day of the year, so we decided to give it a try! We were seated immediately, I ordered the 2-4-1 margaritas and my daughter ordered a virgin strawberry daiquiri (it was huge)! Our food order was quickly served & hot. The chicken / chorizo combo was fantastic with a good portion of rice. My daughter enjoyed her chicken & rice kids meal with French fries. Good service and food, we will be back! Food was great and the server was really nice and friendly. The food came out with in ten minute which was a pleasant surprise.

This has been our go to Mexican restaurant, however things have changed. Food is still good however let me ask how many Mexican restaurants have you been to that charge for chips and salsa? They used to provide your first basket of chips and salsa at no cost, now you are charged for it! Also check your your bill carefully as I found a "value added fee" on the bill. When I asked the waiter he couldn't explain it and then came up with the reason being that "it is the computer system." I had them remove that charged which was about equal to 10% of the total bill. Seemed a little odd to me and I would understand if it was listed as a gratuity but when no one could explain it to me it seemed like they were just adding a fee to collect more. As for physically distancing in the restaurant, I would say they are not following the current COVID guidelines as every booth and table were being used. We have been to other restaurants where it was every other booth. Staff did have masks on but a couple did not have their noses covered. Unfortunately do to these issues, we most likely will not be back. read more

Lukewarm food, music so loud I should have been at a club and lackluster service at this place make this a VERY average place. And for Mother's Day (you know, the BUSIEST restaurant day of the year)? Nothing. No dinner specials, drink specials or flower for mom. I'm done. I've tried to like this place and given it several tries. My "chimichanga" was not nicely toasted nor was is topped with cheese as stated on the menu. Appetizer was lukewarm as was my entree. The manager didn't ask us how our food was. Highway Robbery - very upset with visit to restaurant on Tuesday. Never been there - we were visiting friends in nursing home- 4 women came in - Were not told about the Taco Tuesday Special- Were not told about Margarita special. Was charged $26.00 for two tacos and a burrito. That's ridiculous!! When this was protested waiter didn't do anything, didn't get the manager. That's highway robbery for two tacos and a burrito- when we walked outside - we saw the tacos were on special two for one and I was charged full price. $11.99 for a burrito- this wasn't a dinner just a burrito to take back to nursing home for my friend!! Thought I was ordering a combo lunch- had nothing to drink but water - no appetizers - but was charged a dinner menu plate price for it!!!! I want some money back - Make sure you know what they are charging for things as I was sure surprised and mad as hell. read more

We decided to try something new and drove 15 miles to Monticello to try Pancho Villa. It was worth the drive. We arrived at 8pm so we did not have the crowds of regular dinner time. The place was very clean, even the floor was well kept. The food and drinks were wonderful. My Fiesta Salad was awesome and my husbands Chicken Chimichanga was great.we We will be back. Pancho Villa - pretty decent Mexican fare! We had the Villa enchiladas (3 different sauces; verde was the best) along with a combo plate. I ordered a chili relleno and chicken tamale. I was impressed with the tamale, and the rest was good too. Is there better more authentic Mexican, of course! However don't knock this spot as there's much, much, worse out there. Yelp informed me my review was removed because it lacked detail, so I am forced to write a new one. I had a pork burrito, it was terrible. The pork was incredibly fatty. I ended up pulling many large gobs of fat out of burrito. The wife had fajitas, which she stated the vegetables were way undercooked. Service was OK, borderline slow. Update: So Ivan C. from Pancho Villa sends me this message on Yelp "I think you have wrote a review to the wrong place. "pork incredibly fatty"?? I am sad to admit - when it comes to Mexican restaurants it takes a lot to impress me because I feel mexican food can all taste the same. Plus when it comes to heat - my boyfriend loves heat and I like mild flavors and this pleased both of us! The atmosphere is great - wait staff was so friendly and attentive - and the food was truly excellent! The Menu! - So many selections and it all looked amazing! My boyfriend and I went there and it was delicious. I had the Quesadillas, which was AMAZING! Normally they are served with Cheese but I added the pork and it was delicious! It was a light dinner option! My boyfriend had the enchiladas and he loved them! (He was part of the clean plate club as was I for one of the first time at a restaurant!) After reading other reviews here, I thought I'd be disappointed with Pancho Villa. But, this place is tip top. We've been eating here fairly regularly and have never been disappointed. Great service and a very authentic menu. Drinks are good and love the menu. I'm still working my way through the menu, but everything I've had I enjoy. The service is attentive and very friendly. As a Vegetarian I sometimes have trouble finding places with good Vegetarian food. I have been here twice now with friends and both times everything has been very good! The Vegetarian entrees are AMAZING and my friend(who eats meat), has loved everything as well. In addition to the food we also have both LOVED the Margaritas!!! So many flavors and great selection. The one thing I will say that was a bit misleading was the 2 for 1 Margaritas...They advertise this everywhere, but when we got the bill we were told that it only is for certain ones, and they cannot be blended (on the rocks only).
