Just moved here from Los Angeles and was looking for some authentic Mexican Food. This is really good! We had the enchiladas rancheras and they were delicious, spicy, and well-made. I am not going to claim to be some kind of expert on any kind of food, because I am not. The food here is incredibly satisfying at a very fair price. The restaurant has a very large menu, giving a similar vibe to an American diner menu. The staff has been nothing less than charming and attentive in my two visits (one for lunch and one for dinner.) The tacos are really tasty, and tonight we tried something that was refried beans with chorizo and melted cheese. It came with tortillas but we also used the complimentary chips and leftover tortillas from tacos with it. Amazing calorie-bomb at a great price. Overall, there seems to be a really comforting family element to this place, and the food is filling and tasty. Good place for the munchies/drunchies. So sorry,I am giving this place a new shot and I got shut down again. I normally go to better places than that but it is Monday and the places we normally go to are closed. I called tonight to get an order delivered and the young girl at the other end said Well what do you want when I asked her for delivery. I told her that with her attitude I did not want anything and hunged up. I am a manager of Customer service and know what that means. Of course in different industries but I wish all calls get recorded like mines. It is sad what we are dealing with and we depend on employees do the right thing but unfortunately the case. Sorry you have a bad choice for employees and hope the interview process is focused on customer service because that is not something you have right now. There are many places we are loyal to because of the service and treatment and that is all a customer can ask for. I have been to Mexico (which is more than I can say for the purveyors of OTHER Fairfield County "Mexican" restaurants) and THIS is quite honestly as authentic as you can get without a 4 hour flight and a pesky case of Montezumas revenge. Their tortas with Oaxaca string cheese are a favorite of mine, and the husband friend also loves the Enchiladas Mole. Drinks are plentiful (there's so much to choose from) and delicious. I can personally vouch for the sangria, tequila and beer selection, imported sodas and Horchata. The latter, a cinnamon rice milk is so good it will make you want to cry (or order another). By far the best Mexican restaurant I've EVER been to. And I've been to lots from Texas to SoCal to NOLA (OK, Mexico is on my list of places to visit). Panchos is the real deal. Salsa rojo y verde on every table are home-made, fresh, and delicious - VERY spicy, but with such subtle flavor overtones that you just love the suffering. They even make their own corn tortillas - a rarity - and you can really taste the difference from any other place in the region. Where to begin? Drinks... huge, strong and reasonably-priced. I'm a big fan of the sangria, which creeps up ever so stealthily over the course of a meal. Not too sweet, not too fruity. Apps... good, but the portions are so huge on the entres we rarely order them. Guac is coarse, fresh and perfectly seasoned. Entrees... wow. Pozole (weekends only) is a favorite for its simple, supple awesomeness. Order it with a side of fresh avocado and then chop that sucker up into the stew. Add all of the side condiments (onion, cilantro, lime, radish), and prepare for tastebud nirvana. Mole? Dank, smoky, thick, rich, a little gritty to the bite and amazing on either chicken or pork. Burritos and fajitas? Gringo food, but you'll never find better. Fish tacos? Perfectly fried, fresh, delicate, simple. Best in the region. Even the beans and rice are notable. No shortage of pork fat in the beans (that's a good thing), and the rice is usually perfectly crispy around the edges and studded with fresh corn and peas. Service? This ain't the Four Seasons, hombre. But at $10/entree average, what were you expecting? A few years ago, most servers barely spoke english. But that was just part of the charm. Now, fluency is much better. Speed... well that depends on the night. But you'll always get a smile. Best time to visit: During the World Cup or other soccer events. Cheer on Azteca or Mexico with the locals. Loud jukebox? Helz yeah! If you can't handle a little banda macho or Los Tigres del Norte, you don't deserve to eat here. Most Mexi places just offer repackaging of tomatoes, lettuce, meat, sour cream and avocado. Pancos offers an experience. BTW - I noticed a few bad reviews mentioned "high prices." I'm certain that they're reviewing the wrong place... most likely Pancho & Gringos (unaffiliated, in the same town, not even distant competition). And "sketchy neighborhood?" Please. This is Danbury. After the disappearing server incident at Panchos and Gringos, bravely did my sweetie and I set forth in search of a better experience. In the somewhat questionable neighborhood near the train station, armed with coupons, we approached Pancho's Tacos with a little trepidation. Five minutes later I was nose-deep in a massive margarita (with salt, thank you very much) and digging through the depths of my memory to adivse the server in my high-school Spanish that we needed a few more minutes. We did, the menu was huge. Combinations, steak, chicken, pork, lamb, seafood. It was difficult to make a decision. I went with chicken enchiladas suizas with a tomatillo sauce. The sauce was delightfully tangy, the chicken fresh and juicy. I had a bite of my boyfriend's lamb and was hard-pressed not to steal the rest. We started with chorizo-queso dip, which was a great experience. The guacamole was chunky and full of flavors, not the pureed slop some people pass off as a dip. The service was efficient and friendly, if a little limited in the language department. We didn't mind, we were able to make ourselves understood and nothing in our orders was wrong. Get them with everything! Cilantro and onions are a must...sour cream on the side if you want and a drizzle of Valentina sauce, yes please! So glad we found this place. Real authentic Mexican food! Im a fab of mexican food and havent come across a place like this in a long time. The restaurant looked very clean and the staff was friendly . Everything from the Salsa & Chips, to the shrimp tacos and beef burrito were excellent. The serving size was generous also. I didn't drink, but noticed many people ordering margaritas . They looked delicious and quite large. There is no doubt we will be back. This is one of the best kept secrets in Danbury. Tasty, inexpensive food worth the drive from surrounding towns. I've spent twice as much for a similar meal at the tex-mex place in Ridgefield, and honestly this place was much better. The sangria is especially good, and deadly! Moved to an apartment right around the corner about a year ago and didn't stop by until recently, but I'm glad I finally did. Just a little pricey, but the food was very good, fresh and authentic. I had the shrimp burrito and it was delicious and they used real beans, not re-fried beans from a can. My boyfriend got the pork chimichanga and enjoyed it. Not to mention the margaritas were huge! My only little complaint is we were sitting right next to the juke box, which was playing music while the TVs had Spanish soap operas on at the same time. Pretty spacious inside, and very close to the Western Connecticut State University campus, about 5-7 min walking from their garage. They had very tasty carnitas chimichangas, and were quite generous in the portions. Most of their entrees seem to be served with rice, sour cream and guacamole. Be aware, that they do put a lot of cooked onions inside the chimichangas. That's fine with me, as I liked the taste they provide, but just in case you wouldn't enjoy it as much. Also tried their horchatas, but they were a bit watery and had no cinnamon sprinkled on top. I won't order them again, as I would've preferred any other drink. Will visit again, as the chimichangas had pretty good flavor. read more

I was in Danbury with a work colleague, and we decided to give Pancho's a try. I've lived in Texas and LA, so I'm rather picky about Mexican food. Pancho's was sufficiently good, and some dishes like the tamales and Diablo mole enchiladas were memorable and perfect. The tamale was moist, stuffed with tomatillo verde sauce and pollo, and perhaps the best I've had. My colleague loved her Diablo enchilada-- warning: it is a very spicy mole. The margaritas sadly were made of Jose Cuervo mix. No restaurant with authentic Mexican food of this quality should be serving cheap margaritas made with mix. Serve the real thing with Patron, lime juice and maybe Cointreau. The chips were mediocre and not warm, and the salsa was of grocery store quality. The service was very strange. Our server took our order, delivered the food, and then left without saying goodbye. Another gentleman took care of our ticket, but he got it wrong three times. So, therefore, 3 stars. The food is better than Taco Bell, but you may not want to run to the Connecticut border for the service. read more

This is absolutely my favorite mexican restaurant, and this is coming from a native New Yorker who has lived in Brooklyn for the last four years! As someone who doesn't eat chicken or red meat, it is wonderful to have vegetarian options that are so flavorful, filling and delicious. My absolute FAVORITE food on the menu (and possibly of all time) are the cheese enchiladas (which can also be ordered with steak or chicken for carnivores). I've had a few of them at this point and the Campensinas and Rancheras are to DIE for. The Rancheras are a bit spicy for me (I have a VERY low tolerance for spicy) but I willingly fight through the burn because the flavor is so rich and the tortillas/cheeses are delicious and crispy. The Campensinas are less spicy than the Rancheras, but just as flavorful. I have never had the Mole enchiladas or the A La Diabla enchiladas, but my friends have SWORN by both! My boyfriend and I eat here bi-weekly and the servers remember us and are always so friendly and polite. I've never had bad service at Panchos, not once! The food always comes out quick, fresh and hot and the pico de gallo and chips they serve at the beginning of every meal are fantastic. The pico de gallo is very fresh and homemade. The only reason I'm not giving Panchos Tacos five stars is because of the few times I've ordered enchiladas to go. The last couple of times I've ordered out, the usual order of 3 enchiladas was reduced to 2, they were slightly cold, and had very little sauce. We had lunch here. When we walked in, the TV was on and blasting a Spanish language morning show so loud you could barely have a conversation. I am not a fan of TVs unless you're in a sports bar/restaurant. Occasionally, music would start blaring quite loudly while the TV remained on at the same time. It was awful! I had Beef Enchiladas Mole. My husband had Tacos. The enchiladas were drowning in a sauce that was too sweet with no hint of spice and the beef was gristly and looked old and gray in spots. Pancho's Tacos is the only real option for Mexican food in Danbury. They have a large menu and do just about everything right. I tend to buy tacos on an individual basis because they're cheap and delicious, but for just a bit more money you can get any standard, and equally tasty, Mexican fare. They advertise their bar under the moniker "Tequila Town", and it seems to deliver. The list of available Tequila's is huge, and the selection of other alcohol is equally massive. My only gripe, and the only reason I won't give Pancho's 5 stars, is their inconsistent service. I will continue to come back because of the great food, but I have had items forgotten way too many times. That said, the wait staff is nothing but pleasant and friendly. If you're in northern Fairfield County and looking for some Mexican food, Pancho's is really the only way to go. You won't regret coming here with some friends for a cheap, fantastic meal. read more

My husband and I absolutely love this place! The chips and salsa are delicious! We always get the Burritos and always bring home half of our meal, as it is so filling. The staff is always so nice and attentive and the owner walks around greeting everyone, shaking hands and making sure we are all happy.
