The outside looks kind of meh, but inside is where the real magic is. The eatery is filled with lots of Asian art work - a few small statues, Chinese paintings, lots of red decor, waterfall murals, and much more. The lighting is a little too dim for my liking. The restroom, counter area, sushi bar, and dining area were kept very clean and tidy. It looks like the ceiling is about to fall through directly about the counter area, but nothing to be worried about. It gives off a modern, cool, Asian vibe. Service: (2/2) Upon arrival, you are to wait to be seated, there are a selection of scattered tables and booths that you can pick per request or they will just seat you. You will be presented with two menus (a lunch menu and a regular menu) based on what time you come, a Chinese Zodiac sheet, and some crispy Chinese noodles with red, sweet and sour sauce. Service came by every 2-3 minutes before I placed my order. The waiter was very attentive. My food, Beef Ho Fun ($8.50 - out in 10 minutes) and the Spicy Scallop Roll ($6.50 - a few minutes after the Beef Ho Fun because I ordered it later) came out in a very timely manner. The server had a slight accent, but nothing difficult to understand. Food Rating (2/2): - The Beef Ho Fun: 4/5. A dish composed of thin, broad rice noodles, sliced onions, scallions, bean sprouts, a mixture of soy sauce and other spices. The dish is stir fried very well. There are no excessive juices flowing around from too much flavoring. It maybe a little bland for your liking, but a tad bit of soy sauce will help. This dish is a good dish in my opinion - try it if you like Pad See Ewe or other thin noodle based dishes. - The Spicy Scallop Roll: 4/5. A roll of maki-sushi (rice and filling wrapped in seaweed) stuffed with Spicy scallops, served with a bit of wasabi and ginger. They stuff their rolls with more spicy scallop than the average sushi eatery. Try it if you're craving a spicy scallop roll - it's pretty good. - Overall, there is an expansive and a wide variety of both Chinese and Japanese cuisine. If you are interested in either cuisine, Panda House will not disappoint. JT's suggestions - Pick the table seating over the booths. If there are people sitting behind you at the booths, you will feel when they move around in their booth... which may irritate you. Local Sushi Spot of mention for sure at Panda Garden! The sushi is fresh and well proportioned for the price- definitely recommend in food quality. Ordered their special Sparkle Roll, Spicy Scallop Sushi, White Tuna Sushi and an Egg Roll. Favorite bite was the spicy scallop. We ordered for take out, as the inside is not much of ambiance. So on food for taste, quality, pricing and portion absolutely 4 stars. Where this 3 star rating arrives from was the surprise on our bill. A tip was automatically included on receipt. I did not manually place a tip on my order, rather this was discovered at check out. Never ever have a problem in being a generous tipper, however this should be left to the customer at discretion. We tried panda garden for the first time Friday 1-24-25. And it was mediocre at best. I will say the egg roll was great! My general tso's chicken was soggy and heavy on the bread coating. The chicken itself was good but no crispy coating, nothing special about the sauce. The pork fried rice was 99% rice I did not see a single chunk of pork and almost no veggies at all. Second and likely to be my last time here. Food was very good and the prices are reasonable. Again with the service- service was extremely unfriendly and curt. I would like to be treated half way decent if I'm eating in your establishment and spending my hard earned money. Server was miserable, unfriendly and seemed annoyed that we were an inconvenience. Server never checked back, on the appetizers or entrees. Never offered refills on noodles, drinks, etc. to boot the employees screaming kids were running around the restaurant. My first try was tonight with the family. Soups came out quickly and were decent. Second course should have been a tuna tataki and at first try we received a tuna specialty sushi roll. I explained to the waitress that this was not what I ordered, she apologized and went back for try number two. Try two ended up being a peppered tuna appetizer, which was too spicy for my wife to handle - I didn't bother complaining, due to the language barrier. For Valentine's Day my mother drove an hour to get to Gilbertsville to go to lunch with me. She had never tried Panda Garden so I suggested we go there since we have had good experiences. Unfortunately, this was the worst service I have ever received anywhere. My mother and I got there at 10 minutes after 12 and were the only ones in the restaurant. It took 10 minutes for someone to come and take our order, then it took another 15 to 20 minutes before the girl brought out our eggrolls. We assumed that our lunch would be coming shortly since nobody else was in the restaurant except for the workers. 15 minutes later we are still sitting there waiting for our lunch. I got up and noticed three people eating in the sushi area. I looked behind the desk and no one was there. One of the people eating asked if they could help me. When I looked over, all 3 workers were sitting there eating their lunch while we waited. I said to the girl that I was waiting to see how long it would take before our lunch came out because my mother needed to leave and had an hour ride home. She said she was sorry and that it has been ready for a while and that she would get it for us if we wanted. I can't even tell you how furious I was that they all sat there eating their lunches while we sat there waiting for someone to bring us our lunch. I will never go back there, there is absolutely no excuse for that kind of treatment. It would've been bad enough if there had been other people or it had been crowded, but we were the only people in the entire place. We didn't get out of the restaurant until almost 1:20. We stopped here in hopes of finding the holy grail - a Tiki bar with girl drinks in fake coconuts not far from our home in Reading. Alas, despite the fancied-up, hints of pagoda exterior, it was not to be. (The place is BYOB, if you're keeping score at home.) However, we did discover a really good Chinese restaurant with an awesome seafood saute dinner deal and tangerine beef that was darn tasty. Sushi! My husband started picking up food here on his way home from work, purely out of convenience. This was a few years ago; I get Sushi, he gets Chinese. At that time the Chinese was very good, Sushi was about on par with the grocery store-- but hey, it was reasonably priced and convenient. BUT! The Sushi has gotten better and better! What a pleasant surprise! (Also love their salad dressing-- funny thing to mention, but it's a peanutty tasting concoction that is different than any other I have ever had.) Panda Garden has a fantastic menu with a variety of Japanese and Chinese cuisine. The takeout is always hot and when dining in, the plates and food are served hot and look appetizing. The dining area isn't beautiful but looks clean (that's what really matters). The General Tso's chicken is wonderful, but not overly spicy. You can ask for it spicier if you like. Be aware that they are not open on Monday. Trust me, I've tried to order a few times on a Monday Parking is limited but you will find a few more parking spots around the back of the building. Don't let the rather shabby exterior fool you, this is actually a pretty good place! We decided to try them after living here almost 2 years and had been going to the Chinese restaurant by Giant.
