The quality fluctuated over the years and we wish the chx mix veg in garlic sauce had a thicker browner sauce but it was still good. $3 extra chx., requested only carrots broccoli and pee pod things. On the search for a good Asian restaurant. We saw quite a few good reviews on this place and decided to take the drive to try them out. The food was okay, but nothing special. We tried a variety of items, wonton soup, sushi rolls, egg roll, and rice. Their wonton soup was too beefy, it was too much of the thick noodle and hearty beef. The broth was much darker than we like. We enjoy a light noodle with pork and a clearer broth. A bag of crispy noodles comes with the soup. The sushi was good, but nothing special. The egg rolls and spring rolls were okay, but nothing special. Not sure if there isn't much competition in the area and maybe that's why it's highly rated, or maybe because it is a clean newer facility. The food is decent However my major complaint is The prices. They have skyrocked and for me unaffordable. I used to order in the past maybe twice a month pre covid? In 2024 once.My other complaint are two other things the wonton soup is lacking the pork slices. In other chinese take out places many years ago, there were plenty if you order the quart of wonton soup the bags are small if they give you two if that, I can't prove this for sure, the plastic container are slightly smaller than the used to be. My next time if I go chinese food. I will go to regal buffet in Reading as you get more for your many. read more

While the menu is similar to other Chinese take-out style restaurants, the quality of the food at Joyful House is way better than the average Chinese joint. Their food is delicious, always fresh, consistent, and often presented very nicely. In addition to Chinese food, they also have a full Japanese menu and Thai menu. I highly recommend: wonton soup, sweet and sour soup, mixed veg in garlic sauce, general tsos, Thai fried coconut shrimp, Thai basil fried rice and anything on the sushi menu. Pleasant Surprise in Douglassville! GOOOOOO here for the sushi. So, I'd like to consider myself a bit of a sushi snob. (Well, or it's deprivation mode if it's not an every week and a half staple in the dinner rotation ). Would've never thought to try....but fortunately have some family that just moved out that way, who love a good local take out scene. Well, and in all honesty, random strip malls and sushi can sometimes be worrisome. But......whoa, oh my, eat here. The biggest tell with good sushi is the fish quality. The biggest tell with Great Sushi is the Rice. And Joyful's rice was so fresh. On the order was an Alaskan Roll, Shrimp and Asparagus (asparagus cooked to perfection), Seaweed Salad, Island Roll and the STAR- Sashimi Special Roll. Very picky when it comes to eating at a mom and pop Chinese place but I always found the Chinese places that have Japanese as well as Thai cuisines as well aren't that bad and found to be pretty good. Being that I was in PA for a job assignment a friend referred me to this place. Decided on Japanese and went with the Chicken Yaki Udon w/ miso soup and the gyoza. Very impressed with the taste of the entree with the chicken good but slightly on the salty side. The gyoza was also great as well as it was lightly pan fried. Hot and sour soup, ginger chicken! Excellent dinner. The hot and sour was a little mild on both the hot and the sour for my taste, but still delicious. Added a little hot sauce. The ginger chicken was loaded with stuff. I was once told that you can judge a Chinese restaurant by how uniform the food is chopped. The chef here never heard that. The pieces of chicken, which was plentiful, were huge. Most were 2-3 bites so it was very messy. Not spicy enough for me but I'll know the next time I go I'll ask for extra hot. I got the General Tso's platter, spring rolls, and spare ribs. The general tso's is some of the absolute best around. Great spice that builds. The platter was packed with chicken and rice too. Very well done! The spare ribs were a little sweet but you get a LOT even with the small size. Meaty, tender, and what you'd expect. The rice was okay. It was steamed rather than fried.
