I've been meaning to review this place for some time, because it really is a hidden gem. It's at one end of a small strip mall. It seems to be a mom and pop kind of place, and some of my favorite Chinese restaurants have been that kind. I've mainly had their beef broccoli or some sort of lo mein, but my wife has been more adventurous and shares my high regard. We don't get that way too often since we live on the lower East side, but we do make a point of including a stop here in any plans that take us down 38. Like many similar restaurants, they seem to be mainly a take out place, but they have a nice row of booths and some tables, and the service has been fine. It's a very unpretentious place but worth checking out.

Edible = yes. Good = no. As someone newer to Oak Creek, I've been trying lots of local restaurants to find my "new favorites". Yelp rarely stars me wrong so seeing the 4 star average, felt Panda Gourmet was worth a try. I foolishly ignored the reviews referring to the fried rice as "rice-a-roni". Ease of ordering online was nice. My order was ready on time and was accurate. However, the food was not very good. The chicken fried rice was awful. It should have been called "onion rice". Where were the eggs, peas, carrots, etc.?? I've never had fried rice like this before and I hope I never do again. All you could taste or smell was onions. The only other vegetable in the dish was bean sprouts. For entrees, we ordered the General Tso's chicken and Orange Peel chicken. They were just OK. The breading was not very crispy or flavorful. The sauces were both sweet, which was expected. Even though the Orange Peel has peppers and is advertised as spicy, there was no spice to be tasted. They just missed the mark. Overall I will not be back to Panda Gourmet. Too bad because I really wanted to like them.

I'm editing this review because our visit today was somewhat flavorless. The price has gone up and the flavor has gone down. Not sure what happened. Also they did not restock with food with any urgency so bins were empty during our visit. The staff in the eating area was the same gal and very pleasant, helpful and attentive . But overall we were not as impressed as with precious visits.

I had high hopes for this place because it was one of the busiest Asian places I can remember in a long time and people kept coming in all for the buffet and I was the only one to grab a lunch combo to go. The place is nice and small that looked very clean with a friendly staff to greet you as you walk in. The buffet is either cheap or the best one in the area because everyone was eating it. I ordered the General Taos chicken lunch special with pork fried rice that has a choice side and I ordered the hot and sour soup. The General Taos chicken was not hot or spicy at all with the puffy dark meat style of chicken, thick spongy breading by the time I got it home. The pork fried rice was average at best with bean spread, half cooked onions and tiny pieces of pork mostly with al dente rice, not over cooked. The broccoli had some crunch left in it that I liked. Overall it was a solid average lunch combo but not one of the really great one and I thought it would be better judging by big lunch crowd.

The restaurant is in a tucked away strip mall and is modest in size and decor. The strip mall also contains hidden treasures like a Chinese bakery/BBQ and an Asian store. We went early on a Saturday evening with friends. The service was excellent, although with some staff there were language hurdles. No matter - everyone made it work and we were left with an abundance of amazing food at a reasonable price. Wine and beers are served, as well as smoothies and other non-alcoholic drinks. BF ordered crab rangoon as a starter, which was good. He liked it more than I did, but it was nice and crispy. I just didn't think it compared to other dishes. My vegetable egg roll was very good as well, but nothing terribly unique. He went bold on the entree and ordered the pork intestine and blood cake dish. He really enjoyed it and said it was quite spicy. The portions are generous and he did bring a lot home. I ordered the homestyle tofu, which normally has pork. I got it without to make it vegetarian friendly. The textures were very good and the sauce was intensely flavorful, but mild. I also ordered a supplementary dish of braised mushrooms and Shanghai greens. Everyone at the table enjoyed this dish, particularly the greens, which are a variety of bok choy, called pac choy. The mushrooms were wonderful, with the texture of wood ears. I also had plenty of leftovers to eat the next day. Our friends ordered the Szechuan spicy pork dumplings and they got rave reviews. My cousin did say they were not overly spicy. She went on to order the sizzling black pepper beef, which she said was good, but not nearly as unique or deeply flavored as the other dishes. Her husband ordered the pork intestine with clear noodles, which he enjoyed but said was extremely spicy. He did leave a lot of sauce behind since it was so hot. He also had the ox tendon and maw in spicy sauce, which came with chopped peanuts on top. He seemed really pleased with that dish. We agreed that we would happily go back to explore the menu more. Everything was excellent and I thought the prices were generally quite reasonable, especially for the quantity of food. I do wish the menu had more descriptive text, so I could familiarize myself with the dishes. The choices are many and overwhelming and the menu is huge. I'd also love to see a symbol for vegetarian options since it's very hard to know otherwise and many of the vegetable dishes included pork or other meat. As we left the restaurant was getting increasingly busy with people waiting by the door for seats. This is a popular place for good reason.

It seems…read morethey are always busy, but the staff also does a good job getting guests seated, managing the wait list, getting food served and tables turned without rushing the guests. The Spicy Pork Dumplings have become my go-to appetizer, and the fried spring rolls are also very good. On a most recent visit, we ordered hot pot. Our server brought us the sheet to make our selections. You can choose from mild broth, spicy broth, or half tray of each. The spicy is pretty hot with lots of red chili peppers soaking in it, so I scooped out the chili peppers to keep rhe flavor but lessen the impact on my palate. For 2 guests, I recommend choosing 3 items from the list, maybe 2 protein and one veggie or 2 veggie and one protein to start. You can order more if you finish and need more. This is in addition to the two appetizers you will choose, which is included with rhe hot pot dinner. It's a great value! Sze Chuan remains on my short list of go-to's for Chinese dining, and I look forward to my next visit, whenever that may be.

We were able to order the items we wanted; however, a few errors were made with my sister's order (Shrimp and Vegetables). Thankfully, she was able to pick out the vegetables she couldn't eat. She also ordered Crab Rangoon, and it was about average. My Shrimp Egg Foo Young was delicious. The portion size was generous, and I was able to take home more than half of the order. The Veggie Spring Rolls I ordered were small, but hot and crispy. I was disappointed that I did not receive the hot mustard that I requested, but there were other dipping sauces available, so I made do. Both of our meals came with our choice of white rice or fried rice, so we both chose the fried rice. We received our food quickly, and everything was piping hot. We both felt that they did a very good job with the food, despite the minor errors. I do believe that there may have been a slight communication issue due to language, but if you don't have a special request, you should do just fine. In any case, we both liked it enough to say that we would go back again. The restaurant is not fancy, but it's casual and welcoming. The lobby and dining area were clean, and the bathroom was clean, well stocked, and it smelled fresh.

The main courses are always good and the lunch specials are $10 for what I have had the last couple times which is slightly lower than other Chinese restaurants in the area but that didn't got me back so soon. Service is always friendly from the woman at the counter and I must be the only person who calls in my food order's because she for the second time walking in she knows what my order is before I can even say it. I love egg rolls since a little boy living in Chicago with an old school Chinese restaurant that just had the best around so I have spent my whole adult life seeking out egg rolls from all over and beef fried rice even driving 40 mile round trips. Ok is this the best egg rolls I have ever had, no the peanut butter egg rolls from the old school days were which have all but disappeared 99% from then to today because of nut allergies. A lot of Chinese restaurants have switched to small or cheap food service egg rolls over the years so the best part of Chinese food has went down hill over the years. Ok enough walking down memory lane from years past and let's get to the egg rolls, is it the best around in the Milwaukee area, no but it's probably the best in the 5 mile square area. I finally asked the lady why are your egg rolls so good compared to other restaurants with small mediocre egg rolls and she explained that they make them in house where we make them fresh homemade. Overall egg rolls can make or break a Chinese restaurant which is my favorite part of Chinese food and I think there egg rolls moved them to the top spot in the area with flavorful mains.

The spice on the noodles was mild but it does build on your palette the longer that you eat. The beef was perfectly tender. The soup was wonderfully lemon-grassy and full of flavor.
