So many people in the area love this take out restaurant. I'm convinced none of them have ever had good Chinese food. I've tried San Fong three times over the last 10 years and just don't get the allure. Last week I ordered Moo Goo Gai Pan and spring rolls. The sauce for the Moo Goo Gai Pan had a slimy consistency. Gross! The chicken was fatty and, well, nasty. I gave up on that dish and took a bite of spring roll. Hmmm. Very little filling and it's only flavor was black pepper. I had a few forks full of plain white rice (which was delicious-hard to muck that up). My dinner went straight to the trash can. Service was good, gentleman behind the counter was very kind. The food was ready within 20 minutes which is pretty fast, especially for the quality. I have tried all of the Chinese restaurants in South Milwaukee/Cudahy and this is by far the best. I ordered the sweet and sour chicken. Ordered beef and mushrooms only no other vegetables. Placed large order and discovered at home Beef mushrooms tons of onion carrots. They didn't care. I came back to get it replaced. They wanted the bad order given to them. Some little boy in the store eat it. My shrimp fried rice No egg in it at all. They claim they don't use egg. All the orders prior had it. Call back and they put a lady on that speaks clear. Said that the store corrected the beef and mushrooms. And argued the egg in shrimp fried rice cost extra. No I'm sorry for your inconvenience. Had a fast pick up dinner today. We have our staple favorites here. The mushroom egg foo young(3) and chicken fried rice. Both were hot and packed with flavor. To eat there at the location is not something I would do. The inside isn't much to speak off. I believe most of their business is take out. We enjoyed our food so much we didn't snap a picture before we gobbled it up. We frequent here often for these items. We really enjoy them. The total of our bill is $16.40 foehose 2 items. I was in the mood for a combination lunch plate because I just like the well rounded egg roll, fried rice and a main dish because it's very satisfying like the equivalent of American comfort food. The place is in a strip mall and very dumpy with tables but carry out is probably your best option and that's what they were doing looking at the bags of take out lined up. The menu is huge but the special combination plate sweet and sour pork with pork fried rice and a pork egg roll sounded good so that's what I ordered. The food came out fast and hot in about 10 minutes, I love cooked to order food so thank you. The sweet and sour pork take out had the separate sauce container so no mushy pork, thank you. The pork egg roll was pretty good and better than average but not that great egg roll which I liked. The pork fried rice was dark looking which usually means tasty fried rice, the light colored fried rice is usually not that great. The pork fried rice was tasty with the red bbq pork and regular pork mixed with onions and scrambled eggs that had a seasoned wok flavor. The sweet and sour pork was tasty with a nice pork flavor and a nice crispy shell, I sparsely used the sauce so I could taste the pork and not drowned sweet sauce. This place totally satisfied my craving for a combination plate with fresh hot cooked to order food that was better than the average Chinese spot. read more

After you eat this food, you will agree that this place makes a cheap pack of top ramen noodles taste like the best steak you have ever had in your life. I have been going to San Fong for many years,but wont be going there anymore.A group of us for work always ordered there but the last time was the worst.For delivery now they don't accept cash and they charge you $1.50 for credit card processing. Delivery is now 3rd party and delivery fee alone was $10.50 . We ordered two combination dishes about $11 each and one other dish that was $10.60. total was 49.50 before tip.Food was promised to be delivered at 7 pm (as we only have a 30 minute lunch) only problem was they delivered it before 6 pm and it sat for over an hour because we didn't know they delivered it. Nice workers bad customers. For the two times that I've been here I sat and waited nicely always nice to the worker. But there is always 1 person when I come here that causes a seen and says stuff they don't need too. The food is so good for the price you pay and they give so much of it like it last me 3 days and I only spend around $40 really good! I spend half that much at McDonald's for 2 burgers. Overall it's a decent take out place. Nice people work here. I got Szechuan chicken with Chinese vegetables. My kids got Veggie Lo Mein and Beef with Broccoli. They ate it all which means it was good. We ate the lunch specials which include fried rice or a drink. Our total was $15.58. The decor was not that great. It needs updating. This is my favorite takeout Chinese here in the city. We actually drive about 15-20 minutes to order from here as we've been doing so in my family since we were kids. Although not the same owners I don't think anymore. However they still have awesome crab Rangoons and are always friendly and prompt. I usually order the chicken broccoli and my boyfriend switches from the steamed dumpling or orange chicken. He loves the dumpling sauce! The egg rolls are also good. Only thing that I hate sometimes is they'll forget to put rice in my order and I've been left without it But honestly it's not that big of a deal and I should know to check my order before leaving anywhere. Other thing to know is they are not open on Mondays anymore, so keep that in mind when craving Chinese food. read more

I am dropping my star rating for this place because the last couple times I've ordered from here things just haven't been up to the same standards they used to be. I've heard rumors of new owners, so that might explain it, but it is still sad. Last night I ordered my two favorites, Singapore Mei Fun and Hot and Sour Soup. The Soup could have been called Hot and Hot, because that's all it was. Very spicy, but no Sour, like they totally forgot the Vinegar. The Mei Fun was good, but not as good as usual. The Egg Roll that came with dinner was so greasy, there was a pool of grease at the bottom of the Wax Paper wrapper it came in. There aren't many Chinese Delivery options in my area, so I'll give them another chance or two, but my deliveries may be limited to Pizza or Chicken soon. read more

I have been going to this place for probably 15 years since I used to live in the area. As my palate has changed, I can't say that I'm in the mood for your typical take-out Chinese food much these days, but I often get it for my mom when I visit her and I enjoy snacking on the veggie egg rolls. What I like most about this place is that the service was SO friendly. (I say "was" since I don't order from here nearly as much as I used to). I see in other reviews that new management is terrible, so it's quite possible I'm better remembering the wonderful previous owners and haven't yet encountered poor service from the new owners. read more

This is the kind of American Chinese takeout place you order from when you want a quick lunch, or want to hang out with your love watching subtitled movies all day. This is not the kind of Chinese restaurant you go to with the expectation of sitting down for a few sips of alcohol in your finest evening dress. With that in mind, this review is also taking into account the similar fare in the area. I've been to a lot of Chinese takeout places. A lot. There's a reason we keep ordering from this place. A surprising variety comes from the small kitchen, they have the full gamut of standard Chinese takeout dishes, and the food is always packed into the containers (many of which are re-usable). It's a little more expensive than some of the other places in the area, but you get your money's worth. The quality of this style of Chinese is fantastic. Flavorful, always hot and fresh, just the right amount of sauce. The crab rangoon, egg rolls, and lo mein are staples on every order I make. My wife gets the egg drop soup and the egg foo young, I opt for the general tso's and the mu shu. We have ordered maybe 1/2 of what they offer on rotations, and have never been disappointed, but we also know what we're expecting. Delivery is usually faster than their quoted time, and they've never been late. The restaurant interior is always clean. I don't think this place gets enough credit or business for what they offer. read more

I have to say the I always order the same thing, Pork Fried Rice, General Tso, and Egg Foo Young. Since the New Year, it's gone from fair to good, to good and even better. Seems improvements have been made to these recipes, now I can count on even better and fresher ingredients consistently. It doesn't get better than that in Chinese take out. Awful, awful, awful place... Will never have it again. I ordered delivery online and after an hour I called the place to see what happened. Nobody could really explain why, but they never received my order. Okay, these things happen, no big deal. 35 minutes later it arrived and I almost wish I would have canceled the order when I had the chance. The food is just terrible. The chicken in the hunan chicken was bland and had the texture of candle wax and no spice at all when I requested extra spicy. The orange beef was lacking...welll...any sign of anything orange flavored. The restaurant has a new owner. This means new cook. The food is terrible now. I am pretty upset. This was my family's favorite restaurant. The food was great and so was the service. Both are bad now. And the new owner refuses to answer questions about the old owner. After my first bad experience there in 10+ years, I asked if it was under new management. I was told that it was not and the owner was out of town. We gave it one more chance. I had a hard time ordering. Then when I got to the restaurant, I again asked where Sue, the owner, was. They said she was not here. And agian denied that it was under new management. I did find out that the owner did, in fact, move away. Now the food all tastes "off". There is too much rice wine vinegar, and the crab rangoon, which was great, is really sweet now. terrible terrible. terrible read more

Very disappointing. We have never ordered from here, as there is another Chinese restaurant in town we love. Thought we would try something new. Wife had s,s chicken, and it was the greasiest I ever seen, as was the case with eggrolls. I ordered the Hunan beef, specifically ordered "SUPER EXTRA SPICY" It was in fact bland, and there were not even any dried hot peppers in it at all. I never heard of Hunan beef without the peppers. No kick at all, very mild. When got home with the carryout, there was no sweet and sour sauce for the eggrolls, nor was there hot mustard or soy sauce. Couldn't even give us some napkins, that we could have used to to sop up some of the grease. My wife said that when she picked up the order, the gal behind the counter never said a word. Handed her the bag, took the payment, and that was it. Not a Hello, not an enjoy, no thank you. NOT ONE WORD IN THE TRANSACTION! Needless to say, this was our fist and last time ordering from San Fong, we will stick with with CHINA CHEF, where the food is authentic, the service is great, and the staff is friendly. I Have never before had sweet and sour pork and sweet and sour shrimp without pineapples, tomatoes, and green peppers in the sweet sour sauce. I have now and this is the only place it has ever happened. The staff was nice the food not so much. More breading on the shrimp and pork then is necessary, couldn't find the meat. We only decide to try this place because our usual Chinese food place was closed for vacation. A waste of time and money. Not all bad but not much good. Won't be back.
