I'm new to Charlottesville and looking for a good groomer. Pantops Pet Salon is close to where I live, so I decided to give them a try. They gave my Goldendoodle the worst cut she's ever had. One ear is literally two inches longer than the other. Her coat is choppy with gouges and tufts throughout. Also, they kept my dog from 8:00 to 5:00 - way too long for her, and she was agitated the next day. I was charged $100 for this mess because she needed a flea treatment. I was told that the base rate going forward would be $85. For that price in Warrenton, where I lived before , she got a bath, blow dry, and a beautiful custom cut with personal attention from the same groomer every time, done in 3 hours. This wasn't a good experience for my dog, and she got a really poor cut for a custom price. I won't be going back there. read more

I have used Pantops Pet Salon for around 16-17 years. My first Yorkie was a Champion (retired) and maintained a "dust ruffle" initially. As she grew older, she wore a shorter cut. She was a ribbon girl. Our current Yorkie is definitely NOT a foo-foo girl, so wears a short cut with no ribbons or kerchiefs. The groomers and owner have always been friendly, treat the dogs with love and care, and do a great job. I have recommended this business many times, and will continue to do so. read more

Great groomers! I love Pantops Pet Salon! The people there are great and friendly and the dogs get all excited when they go there they do not get nervous at all! Very pleased with Pantops Pet Salon! I called and they were able to get my dog in the next day. They did an amazing job giving my golden retriever a summer cut. The staff are friendly, skilled, and professional, but best of all, my dogs LOVE coming here -- and dogs, I think we'd all have to agree, give the most honest reviews of all! My experience, and the experiences that so many friends have had with PPS, has always been positive...so much so that I was moved to research the review history of two reviewers who've given the salon very low ratings. Note this well: Both of the unhappy reviewers seem to be virtually always disappointed by any service that they receive -- not just Pantops Pet Salon, but restaurants, personal services, etc. I guess some people just can't be satisfied or happy. We are not groomers ! When you text us about a 6/8 blade or whatever what did we know . Also I understand your the one yes you !!! the owner who went mad crazy and shaved all my dogs hair off . Not the girl who said she was grooming him and told me she knew how too groom a golden doodle . It was Friday and you probably wanted to hurry since you probably pay your workers by the hour . My dog was not matted as to mandate the butchering you did . Patience and a little combing and Some actual grooming would have been great instead you took the cheap lazy way out . Why hAvnt you explained why you never in 8 hrs gave him a drop of water ?? You had him laying in a cage all that time without letting him out or giving him water . I got a good look at our poodle today after we got home and she looks awful! Her ears are dirty. Her legs and rump are huge compared to her chopped up head and ears. The groomer she had today said she was bad during her grooming when last time we were here we had no such reports and the dog looked good. My dog looks terrible and I was billed $80 for the disaster. No to mention how much it will cost to go someplace else to get it fixed. The dog had a great time her first grooming here and today was frightened and nervous. Something happened. When I first started here my dog was groomed beautifully....The man was in the salon and oversaw everything...Couldn't have asked for better grooming job....Don't know what happened but the grooming went downhill after several groomings... The last grooming was TERRIBLE and my dog was injured! There seemed to be only one or two groomer's on site, toward the end of my patronizing them...I could never get a name of the person who groomed my dog I wanted to tip them for their great job...I would get a pooh pooh whenever I asked, "Oh I don't know one of us." Well obviously since he was groomed somebody did him...Anyway, the last time I took him in he was returned to me without the mention of FOUR HOT CLIPPER BURNED PAW PADS that I had to take him to vet to have treated. Costing a nice Vet bill on top of their grooming fee (which by the way they charge a credit card fee to use it to pay for the grooming...INSTEAD of figuring that in as an expense of doing business cost...I did resent that no other grooming salon does that that I have ever gone to)...ANGRY?????? OH, YOU BETCHA! Even my Vet was upset that they did this to him....Totally uncalled for...You don't use hot clipper's on the pads of the dogs feet..You change the blades when they heat up.....When I picked him up the groomer was gone and there was only the girl who does the grunt work...I asked for the groomer and was told she had left and she was the only one there (and she was anxious to get me out of there fast...NO WONDER WHY!...EXCEPT for the man who was in and doing income tax stuff. He couldn't help me...IF I could give a zero star I would...But will consider this one star the same as giving a waitress a 10 cent tip for a very poor to no service serving job....... read more

I stopped at the Pantops location to size up the facility, groomers, discuss services, and my expectations. All was going well until we got to scheduling an appointment. Leave my dog at 7:30am and pick up 7-8 hours later...I think not! Mike/owner was very rude yelling at me about wasting his time; and emphatically stating that this type scheduling was standard practice. I do not want my dog stuck in a crate waiting for hours on end surrounded by barking, whining stressed dogs...and where's the pee going? Where's the website video showing the 5-6 hours of waiting/downtime time? This absurd scheduling is NOT typical....call around, try your mobile groomer, look for small town local groomers....I found several choices. read more

This place was very overpriced. We have an 8lb dog which we paid $60 dollars to get shaved. In addition, upon picking the dog up we were told that in the future we would have to pay more to if he was in, "that condition" again. (He's a a shitzu poodle mix, aka has nappy curls). We have had the same service done at other establishments and paid $20 less. One employee in particular was just plain rude about the dog having knots in his fur. I understand that some people groom their dogs more than others, but we are just not the type to brush the dog daily. And being insulted for not doing so is just not cool. Lastly, we noticed the dog was scooting around on his bum later in the night and discovered a cut from the clippers. I am really laid back, understand dogs squirm and how easy it must be to nick him, but not addressing this when I picked him up is not acceptable. read more

I took my dog to this business once without incident. For the second appointment I called to say I would be late. I was not told I should reschedule. When I arrived I was treated very discourteously by the receptionist and Mike, the owner.He said that the groomers were all cleaned up and done for the day at 10:40 am! There are other capable groomers in town that will not treat customers so shabbily. read more

I have been taking my Collie there for a little over a year. When we first start going to the "salon", they had a groomer that was great! We went back one day only to find that she was no longer there. From that point on, the grooming was never consistent. The last time we went my collie was "butchered". Well, I decided to give them another chance as we all have our bad days, right? When we went back, I mentioned to Mike, the groomer and owner, what I would like to have done as the last time she was groomed it looked "different" (I was really trying to be nice). He proceeded to YELL at me (LOUDLY) that I should have "inspected" the dog before leaving. He took the leash of my dog and YANKED it HARD, thinking that he was going to take her in the back and groom her. My dog was EXTREMELY upset, scared and VERY nervous (Collies do not like any type of distress or discord). So here is my poor dog in the middle of me and the owner yelling at me. I took her leash and told Mike that, while he may be upset, he WILL NOT take it out on my dog. We left and will never go back. On a side note.......we found a GREAT and GENTLE groomer...my Collie looked and felt beautiful! I suppose things happen for a reason. In the end we came out on TOP! :) read more

Awful experience. The salon reeked of cigarette smoke at 9am and also looked dirty. I wish I turned around and left because it only got worse. They completely butchered my dog and shaved his entire coat including his face and whiskers in the middle of winter! I have a U.S. champion show dog who has been groomed for 11 years. I have groomed him myself and he is perfect. His groomer in San Francisco with decades of experience said he was one of his top 5 dogs of all times and that he thought my dog enjoyed the grooming experience. This was a complete hack job and absolutely not the work of a professional groomer. Even his nails are jagged. They charged me $95. My dog walker picked him up and is beside herself and is trying to help me find a sweater since he loves to walk outside, which isn't safe now with this cut. The salon owner was unapologetic and said he couldn't figure out his credit card machine to put the 20% tip I left back on my card (which I had to request because I am not tipping this monstrosity). For the health and safety of your dog, DO NOT GO HERE. My dog still smells of cigarette smoke. read more
