The staff at Paoli hospital are excellent and Caring. If you happen to be in the ER and you get a nurse by the name of Zach, he's awesome, very personable plus his birthday is the same as mine, Zach does everything in his power to make you feel comfortable. If you happen to be lucky enough to get the nurses and doctor on the 4th floor you are extremely going to be happy Dina. She's awesome. I was very nervous about my surgery and what was going on with my stomach Dina sat there and gave me comfort and calmed me down she made me feel that everything was going to be all right. Letitia jaidah, Anne, Jasmir, tongi, Dana and Fen are the best.They help you when you need it and all will make you feel special for sure. There is 1 more nurse that I wanted to mention, His name is Adam, when I was brought to my room, I had so much pain and forgot my charger, Adam went and looked for one and lent it to me, such a wonderful staff at Paoli. Discharged from ICU yesterday with partial cervical fracture. today I am not even seen by a doctor, but a physician assistant. What gives?

I went to this ER for a serious health issues and was dismissed. The staff tried to pull a drug seeking thing on me. I lost over 30 pounds in 2 months and weighing 79 pounds and you could visibly see how sick I was and there was plenty of proof in my chart. I have never used drugs so I really don't appreciate that. If you were seen in this hospital or other Mainline Health please review what is in your records. DR's can write things in your chart that could potentially hurt you or label you in that persons opinion which is why when I went to their other hospital in Paoli they tried the same thing. I was of course upset and both hospitals threatened to call security . Really? That's what health care has come to? On my 2nd visit there I waited over 12 hours and a Dr came out and took me into a office and basically refused to exam me. There was No exam how does that work??? my mom was admitted to the ER department... She got stuck in a room... And then no nurse no Doctor No nothing with all of her insurance card drivers license and everything just laying out on a computer table for anyone to see or steal... 2 1/2 hours elapsed until the doctor actually saw my mother there... And then after I complain to the doctor I get chastised for asking why things didn't happen sooner than the cheapest in the world as we were busy... I recently went to the ER at Paoli Hospital. I have never had a better experience at a hospital. From the moment I walked in I was greeted warmly by the desk attendant and she helped me check in quickly and her demeanor was so calm and friendly. Then I was handed off to the triage nurse Joe. He was super friendly, we were laughing and chatting the whole time and he made me feel very at ease. My nurse Courtney was the same. There was another patient there that was very unwell mentally and was screaming at the nurses and doctors over and over and every one of them remained impressively calm and composed. I was treated very quickly and aside from a long wait for some results, which is to be expected, it was a seriously great experience. read more

Hit or miss at psoli depending on Dr. Some are great some are condescending. I've been there many times through the years. Great service at times and poor service other times. Went in twice for serious chest pain. Checked blood and EKG and all fine. Told me to go home and follow up with cardiologist. Two male friends went in for same problem. All checked out ok but kept them overnight to run more tests to make sure nothing wrong. Both needed stents. Funny they treat women differently . And one time my BP was 200 over 100 and I got sent home. read more

Our son turned 18 in February, and we adopted him when he was 3 yo from the foster care system, where he suffered several failed placements before he came to us. He has severe mental health issues, including pre-natal alcohol syndrome, being on the spectrum, severe ADHD (he can barely read at at 2nd grade level), severe dyslexia, RAD, and an IQ tested below 70. We have many years of diagnoses from many professionals. We have PoA for him. In August, he was on a bike accident (he might have been under the influence of some narcotics) and was taken to Paoli Hospital. Knowing that he does not react well to stressful situations where he feels threatened and might turn violent (similar incidents have happened before), my wife called and I went to the ER. I asked to take him home and take him to another place once calm, but they refused and he was placed on "302" -involuntarily committed- for suicide risk (he often mentioned "suicide" as a way to get out of a situation he perceives as dangerous, without understanding that it makes things worse). He was not allowed to refuse care (as patients are allowed to do) and leave, even though he wanted to leave with me. The hospital security staff became more and more aggressive, even while I was there, escalating his behavior. He kept saying, "Stay away from me", and that caused the staff to get closer. He also said that he would cooperate if security left, but they kept provoking him (from his perspective). My wife and I explained to them many times in person and over the phone the situation, telling them that he would turn violent, and it was better if he came away with me. But they refused. We told them he would end up assaulting someone and they will have him arrested, but they did not care. In the end, the situation escalated to the point that he was restrained, broke the restraints and assaulted some hospital staff. All of a sudden, the emergency mental health crisis (the 302) was dropped without any explanations of why, he was drugged to stupidity, and after 2 days arrested and taken to jail. The hospital never returned his property (phone, fanny pack, shoes, etc). We tried to retrieve the items; the hospital did not cooperate. We have documentation and pictures to support our claims. read more

This past week my sister gave birth at Paoli hospital, and the experience she had there was absolutely horrible, and a disgrace. Upon arrival while she was IN LABOR the receptionists at the front desk around 12 AM were giving her a hard time about not having her ID while she was standing there with her water breaking IN LABOR. The women working the front desk were not welcoming or understanding in any way. They were looking at her and back and forth between each other with confused looks on their faces like she was crazy asking her "uhh so what are you here for?" As shes standing there very obviously distressed and clutching her pregnant belly. When we asked a nurse about this they told us, "some of the receptionist are stricter than others when it comes to that." I understand the protocol to ask for ID under less strained circumstances, but considering my sister has been coming to this hospital quite frequently for a year and knows everyone there, and was standing there in a panic and in pain having contractions, a warmer more understanding welcome would have absolutely been appreciated. After my sister gave birth, and felt she could muster the strength to get up and use the bathroom the nurse on duty at the time told her all the supplies she would need would be in the bathroom waiting for her. When she finally was able to make it to the bathroom, to her dismay ZERO supplies were there to assist her with this process, so she was just standing there bleeding, sore and in pain, with little strength having to hit the call button and WAIT to ask the next nurse on duty to please get her what she needed. When my sister went to take her first shower post giving birth, (which as you can imagine would be something a new mother would be very much looking forward to) there were ZERO towels supplied to her in the room. You would think they would pay closer attention to these details to make things easier on the new mother and have things ready for her in that situation. It was over 48 hours before the trash cans were changed out and replaced. We had to ask them several times if we could finally have them changed. Which is disheartening considering the trash cans in the room of a new born are normally filled to the brim with dirty smelly diapers. A separate front desk receptionist while we had other visitors was also very very curt and rude to the visitors we had. Considering the reception desk is the first point of contact you would THINK the people working that position would be more welcoming or at the very least NICE. There were many other things that made this experience a less than desirable one. We are beyond disappointed and disgusted with the experience we had at Paoli hospital. They need to do better, period. Avoid this hospital. read more

Paoli hospital is great if you limit your care to critical care and progressive care units and this is mostly in terms of nursing. Doctors are universally unwilling regardless of department to listen to patient concerns as are those nurses on regular floor beds. I would avoid staying here except for critical illnesses and get discharged ASAP once stepped down in level of care unless you enjoy frustration, disappoinment, and poor medical care. read more

I had an unfortunate experience there today. And as I reflected on the hospital I recalled a few others for both me and my father. I shared my concerns with them and just got excuses with no accurate or legitimate response. MLH is siloed, fragmented and employees have very narrow small jobs with no idea of the context in which they work. Frankly, MLH is a mess of an organization. They are clearly overstaffed and not patient focused. I will NEVER have anything important performed at MLH. NEVER. Will try Penn or specialists well known and regarding in their fields. MLH is the B team. Just look at the reviews here and their overall rating. Do you want a mediocre hospital? This hospital is average at best! Emergency room and 4th floor nurse and support teams were excellent, informative, cheerful, responsive. Even the cafeteria was very good.

We drove from Reading,PA, which is about 1 hour away. We were advised by my Mom's doctor that she may need IV antibiotics. We had been to Tower in Reading 2 months ago and the experience was terrible. We will definitely make the drive to Paoli again. The ER looked like a clean and modern doctor's office. It even smelled good. Despite being extremely busy, they were kind and efficient. Tests were timely,as was medicine given to give my mom comfort. They even offered her a heated blanket in the waiting area. This hospital should give others lessons on patient care. read more

I have been to Paoli a few times for myself and family and always had great experiences...it's why I chose to deliver my child there. I went to the ER today and had the absolute worst experience. The triage nurse and front desk were wonderful. The doctor was absolutely horrific and the PA/CNP seemed distracted or not listening, although she did try to make up for it in the end. I never go to the hospital unless I am referred by my doctor to go and this doctor, Dr Speck, didn't even ask me a question or look at me. She walked in the room and assigned me a new prescription without even a care for why I was there. I had to push for care and even then she couldn't care less and was telling me I have a long term issue that'll only get worse (which 1- has not been diagnosed and 2- how about a little empathy in communication). Finally, I read the doctors notes and they were totally inaccurate. Not a surprise since she didn't speak to me. Although she did claim to be present for the procedures. Integrity, skill, and empathy were a major fail today. I know what paoli can be. This is not it. read more

This is a follow up review from my ER review. After 10 hours in the ER, I was admitted to the 4th floor. They are just as bad as the ER. I was totally ignorant here as well. The nurses were terrible and unfriendly. Very abrupt personalities. I again was not hooked up to an IV. I asked the nurse why not, and she said that I dont need one. I told her that I came in because I was severely dehydrated. She told me I wasn't dehydrated. I asked several times to be hooked up to an IV and all the nurses refused. I was on the 4th floor for 16 hours without an IV!!!! This is unacceptable for a patient that is dehydrated. I asked for something to drink, and i was given a small amount of water and was told that's all I'm getting. While I was on the 4th floor, my condition deteriorated quickly because of the lack of care that i received, which was nothing. By the time I was discharged, I was in very bad shape. I was also asked if I received the COVID vaccine and I said I am not vaccinated. I asked why I am being asked this, and the response was " so we know how to treat people ". I asked her if patients are treated differently, and the response was that they do different things with the vaccinated patients. The lack of care and compassion for patients is beyond a disgrace!!! All this hospital cares aboutis the almighty dollar. So sad profit comes before patient care. read more

Went to the Er on Thursday nigh for several ankle pain, unable to walk. Triage said they were ordering an xray when I saw the pa she said it was unnecessary. The Dr came in made some form of I'm pretty sure it's this ignored what I was saying. Told me I needed a boot that the hospital apparently did not have. How can a hospital not have a boot. No questions about pain didn't ask me if I took ibuprofen. Not everyone is looking for narcotics and this policy this hospital has is ridiculous that everyone must be fishing and motrin cures all. I had the same issue when I delivered my third son. I didn't sleep for 3 days because if I didn't request my medicine I didn't get it. I won't be coming back after this speedy treatment of get in and get out ever. read more

Our experience at Paoli Hospital was as best as could be under the circumstances. In the ICU, from the nurses to the physician's assistants to the attending doctors, the care was thorough and compassionate. While the results were not what we had hoped for our loved one, we are grateful for their support and service. read more

We've had a handful of experiences at Paoli Hosp. Depending on the doctor we're seeing, for specialist visits/tests, we're normally referred to Paoli, Bryn Mawr, Riddle (Rothman), or Penn Med in Radnor. For ER visits, we head to Bryn Mawr or Paoli if it's more serious than an urgent care facility. I had an EKG & other tests with Cardiology in 2015. They were very caring & kind. My husband had an ER visit a couple years ago, & they were very attentive & helpful toward him, though it turned out to be dehydration. (Grrrr) This past summer 2018, it was my turn to have a false alarm. Two days after being released from a c-section birth at CCH, I started blacking out on my way across the room. I paused, sat down, & it happened again when I stood up. They caution you not to eff around after major abdominal surgery, & I was probably too aware of my risk of blood clots. All this, plus the blacking out, made me terrified. So, to Paoli's ER we went, with newborn in tow. Reception was professional & helpful, both coming & going. They were fast, efficient, & had adequate urgency to get me on my way to help, since it is an ER, after all. Corrine was my nurse in the ER. She was super attentive, thoughtful, professional, & caring. She even offered, & then brought me a pump so I could feed my newborn, because I was held almost a full day for observation. (They have Ameda pumps at Paoli, fyi.) My Physician Assistant was SOOO much better than the ER doctor I had (more below). She treated me with great care & kindness, & was extremely understanding about my fears given my recent c-section. I definitely feel like she wanted to make sure all tests were run, not for a big bill, but for my safety. I had an IV, x-rays, bloods, & an ultrasound. The IV, x-rays & bloodwork were quick & easy, with professional nurses & techs, right there in the ER. For the u/s they had to transport me to another wing. My transporter was sweet, & had cheerful, thoughtful conversation with me all the way to & from the u/s. Once there, though, it was a long wait, in a bed in the hall, with others in beds in the hall. I was freaking out because I did not want to catch these other patients' germs when I was still in stitches across my stomach, & had a newborn to care for! I also did not want to be awkwardly lying there staring at these other sick people, nor on display in a gown & a sheet while all the medical staffers walked down the main thoroughfare. They need to have some kind of staging room or private curtained cubes for people there. Also, this part of the hospital is older, dingy, & though it probably wasn't, it felt dirty. The u/s techs were quite a bit more interested in socializing than in their work, or their patients. The tech I had for my u/s was professional & competent, but the others milling around their station were not at task, & instilled little confidence in me as I waited for stressful test results. They were all very young, & not really versed in professional decorum in general, but especially for a medical setting. One of them, the most chatty, kept going over to another patient (who looked like death warmed over) & just stared at her. She was not reporting on the woman's condition or anything (she's a tech not a nurse), just rudely staring at her, like "Oh my God." Then, she was so deep into her nonstop personal conversation with another tech, that she kept stepping in the way when my tech was trying to get equipment going, to tend to me & do her job. It was so unprofessional & ridiculous. Once back downstairs, I realized how much newer it was, & how much brighter & cleaner it felt compared to the wing where I'd just been. In comparison, I realize Bryn Mawr all feels a little older. Though I've visited varying specialists at BMH over the past couple of years, I haven't been in any new wings to see a difference, so you don't notice the oldness b/c it's all old. I had the same feeling at Chester County Hosp as with Paoli, with new v old, b/c the maternity wing at CCH is all new. So just trying to give credit to the fact that the Paoli ER feels newer & fresher, which is appreciated. To finish up my stay at the Paoli ER, the doctor who came in to give me a final assessment & test results, gave me that raised eyebrow look (the one before the eye roll), when I was actually thanking her for giving me peace of mind with my "all clear" test results. IDK what that was about? It wasn't necessary. She never did give me an explanation for my blacking out. Everyone else was so encouraging & helpful, & completely understood how everything freaks you out as a new parent, especially how weird it feels to have gone through a C-section, with your body healing while you strain yourself with no sleep & breastfeeding as a new mom. Was it exhaustion? Respect would have been nice, Doc. Bottom line, my PA in the ER was the best, as was Corrine, they were 5 stars. Others got their jobs done, but definitely could have done it with less misery. read more

This hospital is literally the worst. Maybe go to get stitches or something small like you would at an urgent care. Otherwise go to Chester county Hospital. They have twice sent my mother home saying she has nothing only to take her to Chester county to actually get an issue resolved. As a patient of the ER myself, I was pleased. When my dad was there toward the end of his life, I wasn't so pleased. He was on the stroke unit for a month. One young nurse thought it appropriate to leave my dad in only a diaper, no gown on, with no sheets on his bed with the door wide open for all to see him. My dad had suffered two massive strokes and was totally dependent on them for his care. He could move his arms and legs in uncontrolled motions, but that was it. It was very telling when she saw me and my mom walk into his room and she came scurrying over like a rat defending what we saw. Pathetic. The bs story I got from the nurse manager was that it was "for his safety". No. It was because that nurse didn't want to be bothered with him. I made sure to wreck them on the Press Ganey survey. Probably should have filed a complaint with the Joint Commission. I hope that little snot of a nurse either quits the profession or is forced out of it. My dad died two months later, at Pocopson Home where he was given so much kindness and care. But I will never ever forget the indignity he suffered at Paoli Hospital. read more

I went there for eye pain and a change in vision. Was there for over an hour for the doctor to tell me I should have been wearing my glasses because I'm straining my eyes. Got a referral for a Main Line Opthalmologist. Like I'm really going to a Main Line doctor for anything after being treated like I was a burden? Called a Wills Eye opthalmologist. Got told to go to Wills Eye ER now. Was diagnosed with optic neuritis due to MS (I had never been diagnosed before). When I wrote a grievance, all Dr. Stewart Brilliante had to say was "we don't employ opthalmologists at the hospital." Well, guess what the eye issue was caused by a neurologic issue. You guys don't employ neurologists either? Maybe this ER should catch up on some reading that doctors are required to do to stay up to date. Hopefully, I don't have a MS relapse and have to go to the nearest ER because this ER is the closest. read more

When I lived in Devon, I needed medical care for some very serious health problems. From Kidney Stones to Appendicitis, to a Staph infection I received during a Carpal Tunnel procedure at ANOTHER hospital. I was single and lived alone, and everyone here relieved any anxiety I had. The Surgeons, the Doctors, and the Nurses were WONDERFUL. The Philadelphia Inquirer did an article on this Hospital because it stood out from the rest. The article was titled: "Paoli Memorial Hospital.....The Hospital no one wants to leave". How very true. And while hospital stays are usually very unpleasant, Paoli Memorial treated me more like I was in a fine Hotel. Please believe me when I say this hospital is simply the best of the best. I'm a senior citizen that suffers on occasion from diverticulitis. I went to Paoli hospital's ER for the first time since I am new to the area when it flared up and for the first time was not prescribed any pain medication to relieve the terrible pain that I suffered from. Every other ER I have went too over the years for this condition has always prescribed me something to to make me feel more comfortable for dealing with the pain. They sent me home told me to to take Tylenol which I told them does not work good for me. It took about 5 days for the pain to subside. I will never again use this hospital. read more

Fight for your loved ones. Our Grandmother was in Paoli hospital Feb 25th for 3/4 weeks due to a broken ankle. Although most of the staff were nice and accommodating, communication on meds never was sent to the new nurse on staff. Our Grandmother was on anxiety meds her entire life and bc in the Paoli computer system her prescription stated "as needed" and they weren't giving it to her unless she asked. Problem was, bc of not getting that medicine she was hallucinating, choking on her food, very irritable, memory loss amongst other side effects. She was in no condition to "ask" for meds when shes seeing people on the walls. We Spoke with numerous nurses who swore they would update the system so she had this pill 3 times a day like shes taken for years, but the message kept getting misconstrued. I do believe that the lack of this medicine set her back terribly. We finally were told by the nurse (2 days before she would be discharged) that a doctor on site would have to change the prescription so she could have it more often and consistently. Great timing (eye roll). Lastly, she was to be discharged on a friday, my husband and i took off of work preparing to go with her and the discharge never happened. Hospital said "insurance hasnt approved it, most likely bc its the start of the weekend". Saturday, no discharge. Sunday still no discharge... again same excuse. Monday, i was fed up. I said "i need the number for the insurance company, let me find out whats going on. I called and the insurance company said "we sent that discharge approval on Friday". WHAT!?!?! I called and left a nasty vm with the hospital demanding i know what's going on and that the insurance sent the approval. i received a call back that day and she was discharged in the afternoon. Problem is, people are overworked and minimal staff. Most of them were nice, minus a couple bad seeds who id love to sync with in person now that this is now over :0). You must fight for your loved ones bc these people will not. The care and concern is gone. read more

Sally Speck was verbally abusive and dismissive of an aged family member who presented to Paoli ER with a life-threatening condition. She told him he had dementia, should be in a nursing home, and dismissed him. She was horribly hostile and was laughing at my family member while expressing that he was very old, being entirely disrespectful and condescending. I have never been witness to that sort of ageist abuse, but now I know that it is real. Following that very horrible experience, we went to a real hospital where my father had a team of doctors that were astounded that he had been grossly misdiagnosed and not admitted with a life-threatening condition. Thankfully, we avoided devastation by pursuing real medical help following that very unsettling interaction with Sally Speck. My family member does not have dementia as she was accusing him of, but rather was suffering horribly from a very clear and obvious illness that she cared very little to treat. If we had not pursued medical attention following her dismissal, we would be suffering the loss of a family member. She was confrontational, condescending, insulting, intentionally offensive, discriminatory, accusatory, argumentative, verbally abusive, dismissive, and very aggressive and hostile... completely out of line and horribly unhelpful. Please don't put yourself through the trauma she may inflict upon you. It will take time for us to heal from what she has done to us. What's especially frightening about a person like this in a medical setting where people are presenting with emergencies is that she may cause undue suffering and death due to her unethical practice. We have since cut all ties to Main Line Health. read more

Dr Chastaney is so talented, nice and caring. He preformed my hysterectomy when others suggested my pain was normal. Surprise he was right I had fibroids and adenomyosis. It was outpatient surgery but I stayed overnight. The Hospital staff from check in to check out was very attentive. They made sure I was completely taken care of. Compared to my husbands stay in Abington, I was treated like a queen :) read more

Mother of all that is Holy, do not come to this ER. I came in the other night and all the women working were like robots. When they did my intake they acted like I was bothering them and were very rude and short with me. After they admitted me I was a complete mess and crying from pain and not ONE PERSON cared. They all were like emotionless drones who acted like they would rather I not be there. One woman came in to sit down and take an "account" of what I was going thru and looked at me like I was insane. They did some bloodwork, one xray and told me leave. They did not give me any medicine not so much as any fluids or dehydration even tho my main issue was a migrane so bad I wanted to pass out. I have no idea how this place functions this way or why any of these people went into healthcare. It is beyond sad that in an ER where people are sick and panicking these are the people we have taking care of us. It makes me sad. Please, just go anywhere else. Anywhere. My mother made a trip to the ER tonight when her foot began to act up. One of the things I'd like to point out is that the ER was really easy to find. There were numerous signs leading around the building to the entrance. From the moment we stepped in the Emergency Room, we were treated both politely and quickly. Within 20 minutes, she was being seen by a nurse and an assistant soon after. The guy who diagnosed my mother's foot, Gino, was quirky but seemed to know his stuff. While explaining the diagnosis to my mother, he drew a diagram on the bedsheet. She was able to get something to relieve some of the pain and a diagnosis for her foot. read more

My sister-in-law just had a baby, so I got to spend some time in the Maternity ward of the Paoli Hospital. Pros: -Large, clean waiting area -Big birthing suite -They gave the baby knitted hats -The doors are kept locked and a nurse needs to buzz you in and out - also there's a tracking device kept on the baby's ankle (I didn't realize baby theft was that large of a problem, but OK). The only negative I have is that once the baby was born it took three hours for us to be allowed to go back and see him. We were told it would be one hour. Went to ER an had the worst experience. First they put a iv in my arm an sent me to the waiting room. I was sweating/vomiting at the time so the tape on the iv fell off and I was bleeding EVERYWHERE. After waiting dripping blood all over the place a nurse came over an half ass cleaned me up while ignoring the blood that was on the waiting room floor. I left 6HOURS AFTER THE BLOOD ON THE FLOOR WAS STILL THETE YUCK! Then after they told me they don't know what's wrong with me they told me they can't send my already est. Meds to my pharmacy. After I called BS on that the snotty nurse copped a big attitude an said she needs to talk to the PA. She came back 5 minutes later with a nicer demeanor an said the PA actually can send my meds to pharmacy. So lied right to my face. I really hate liars. They treated me like a pill head it's pretty disgraceful. I will never go back to the sh!thole. And I'm calling patient advocate tomorrow to bitch. DONT GO HERE GO TO BRYN MAWR INSTEAD. read more

I had a procedure today. My wife was not notified in a timely fashion about my completion. No one came out to explain to her how I did or what the results were. Someone did come out after I had asked if someone had told my wife I was out. When she was finally told to go get the car, there was no place to park in the pickup area because a number of, what I can only described as drug reps were parking their cars there and leaving them. My wife told me that she had to drive around the circle multiple times until someone finally left so she could park and pick me up. read more
